Heather got in a lucky hit that managed to subdue him long enough to get to safety, but Arnold got away.

He let her run, but not before he had her purse - which gave him all the information he would need to find her later.

She spotted him and screamed, but he drugged her and had already gassed the building so he met little resistance as he took her away. Agent Tiff, feeling the heat from the FBI's recent failures, was determined to not let this be another.

Nothing To Fear..

Scarecrow took the unconscious Heather to the asylum, injecting her with fear toxin when she regained consciousness. Meanwhile, Agent Tiff and the rest of the FBI determined that Scarecrow was hiding in the asylum. They chased after him, but when Agent Tiff had Scarecrow at gunpoint, he triggered his latest creation: the Scarebeast. Batman arrived just in time to see the transformation, but the cooperation between him and Agent Tiff was nearly coincidental. To make matters worse, Croc caught the scent of Scarecrow and followed it to the Scarebeast, who he decided to fight for dominance despite Batman and Agent Tiff, who found the controls to an overhead crane, attempting to stop them both. Batman managed to sedate the Scarebeast, while Croc became more upset at Agent Tiff and attacked the crane, only to run into a group of FBI agents with tranquilizer darts.

After talking to her about what happened and how she was coping with it, Joan decided that despite Heather's lingering symptoms she was well enough to do her job and was actually coping quite well, all things considered.

Anyone Else Hate the FBI?

On her first day back at work after the incident with Scarecrow, Heather found that her fear of reporting negatively about the FBI was gone. She easily found people wanting to call in about that subject, including Rachel Dawes, who complained about not being able to do her job, and Bruce Wayne, who managed to both have a point and be out of touch at the same time.

Heather was doing her radio show when the Scarecrow called in. Though she was still recovering from when he kidnapped her from her apartment, she attempted to continue the show. But he revealed that he was in the building with her and had her trapped in the studio. He shot her with a dart of brave toxin, which turned most of her terror to anger. But she was easy to overpower and, in her fearless state, she was almost cooperative when she realized that trying to fight him was useless. So he managed to kidnap her again, even though the whole thing was broadcasted.

Jonathan took Heather to his laboratory. They got into an argument about whether or not she wanted to be there. He showed her the very illegal radio setup he had ready for her, as well as her bedroom. This confused her, but she was exhausted and unable to fear so she saw no reason why she shouldn't sleep.

Jonathan woke Heather up after letting her sleep an entire day to get her to eat. However, after that she became bored, so they talked about what she wanted to do with the radio setup he gave her and she used it to make an announcement to say when she'd do a proper broadcast. Jonathan checked the wound from the brave toxin dart and explained what it was, then they headed out to go pick up some of her things from her apartment so that she'd have what she needed to stay with him in the longer term.

Edward arrived at Jonathan's laboratory to warn him about what he was up to with a riddle and also to meet the girl he'd heard Jonathan was keeping there. However, Heather at that moment was more interested in getting more brave toxin from Jonathan than she was in meeting Edward. Despite her protests, Edward convinced Jonathan to talk to him first and gave him the riddle, which upset Jonathan because he recognized it as such. When Edward left, Heather expressed her worries about his visit, prompting Jonathan to give her the brave toxin to calm her down. However, once calmed, she decided to kiss him. Jonathan protested, but that didn't seem to bother her.

Jonathan, having learned that Edward had some sort of a connection with Nina, invited her to meet with him at a cafe. Figuring it would be worse to not accept, Nina agreed. Jonathan brought Heather with him and, though his meeting with Nina was civil, she was not quite what he expected and seemed unintimidated by his vague statements, even when he indicated that he hinted that he would do something with her in the future. Nina told him that he should leave her alone, and left the moment he indicated that the conversation was over.

Jonathan took Heather out to the Stacked Deck, for a change of scenery. Meanwhile, Rachel arrived, having been told someone would meet with her to give her some information. That someone was Victor. But when Rachel went to retrieve her purse from her car, she accidentally tripped and fell onto Jonathan. That prompted unhappy words and introductions. But just as that was finished being sorted out, the Joker suddenly arrived and turned his attention mostly on Jonathan.

Jonathan took Wulfen to his containment room. Though Wulfen struggled, Jonathan injected him with fear toxin and Wulfen hallucinated about being alone. Which became worse when he felt Lupin actually leave him. Heather, who had been watching the scene via the camera but wanted a better view of what was happening, arrived and Jonathan asked her about her experience with fear toxin. Wulfen then unexpectedly transformed into a werewolf, broke through the wall, and smashed his way through Jonathan's lab before breaking out of the building entirely.

The Good, The Bad, And The Scared

Jonathan and Heather had just disposed of a body when they happened to run into Jeremiah as he was leaving a grocery store. Jonathan and Jeremiah exchanged some tense words, but then Jonathan noted the small hints that Jeremiah was a family man - which he kept hidden at work for their safety. Fearing for them, Jeremiah pulled out his gun but it jammed and Jonathan knocked it from his grasp. The exchange freaked out Heather enough for her to pass out. Jonathan retrieved the gun and used it to insist that Jeremiah put Heather in his car and get in with them. Heather came to with a headache. When Jonathan told Jeremiah to drive home, he purposely slammed on the gas to knock around Jonathan, but Heather retrieved the gun that had been knocked out of his grasp and threatened Jeremiah with it. She gave it back to Jonathan when he sorted himself out, but then Jeremiah slammed on the brakes, and Jonathan was thrown out the windshield. Heather ran to him, so Jeremiah was able to leave.

Jonathan was on the hunt for a new 'patient'. But when he went ahead alone, leaving Heather to wait, Scourge noticed and decided to try to attack her. But she immediately screamed for Jon, who came back immediately and goaded Scourge into deciding that Heather was unimportant - Scourge attacked Jonathan instead. They fought, but when Jon's sickle got knocked to the side both Scourge and Heather went for it and Heather managed to stop him from getting it. This allowed Jon to easily get the upper hand, but when Scourge proved to be terrified of needles and was also accidentally knocked unconscious Jonathan decided to leave him. This upset Heather, who thought Scourge deserved worse, but she wasn't willing to argue with Jon about it.

Jonathan began the process of teaching Heather how to defend herself, though his methods caused her to become angry and then scared. When a hold caused her to panic and he wouldn't release her, she attempted to stop him by kissing him but that only made him angry. They took a break and smoothed things over, Jonathan giving her one of the poppies he used for his fear toxin. Then they got back to it.

Oswald went to interrogate Heather, but as she was on brave toxin and also very angry at him she saw no reason to answer his questions or even speak to him nicely. When she pointed out that he had no ability to threaten her and she had no desire to negotiate, he shot her in the leg, twice, but even that didn't work. Now thinking outside of the box, Oswald decided to see if a dose of fear toxin would counteract the brave toxin but the result was... unusual. Heather's already frayed sanity was broken completely when her mind split to contain both toxins at once. When it seemed that one of the effects was some form of memory problems, Oswald asked her a few more questions to see if the result would work in his favor, but she couldn't remember anything useful to him in her new state.

Talking to Myself

VerMillion talked to Heather, helping her cope with the fear toxin. When it wore off, they realized more or less what had happened to them because they had identical memories of past events, up until Oswald injected the fear toxin. They figured out that VerMillion could control which of them was on the surface, but Heather couldn't handle it very well. Heather helped pass the time and improve VerMillion's ability to recall things by telling her stories about the things that VerMillion was having trouble remembering. Eventually, they realized that VerMillion's lack of fear was permanent and not the brave toxin. They narrowly avoided saying anything out loud about the one thing they knew about Jonathan's research that Oswald would find interesting, which was fortunate because the room was bugged.

Jonathan went to the place where Oswald said he was keeping Heather, and filled the building with fear toxin. That made it relatively easy for him to walk in and retrieve her, though he was surprised when VerMillion explained the new split of her mind. He took her to his hideout in the sewer, but as he was treating the infection in her leg he decided that what he had in the sewer was inadequate. So they broke into a small apartment above the sewer, allowing VerMillion to use and steal everything she needed to recover more fully. Back in the sewer, Jonathan drugged her to let her rest - kissing her when she was too out of it to remember. When she woke up he asked to see Heather, who was very traumatized by all that had happened, and told her that he wanted her to talk to Oswald for him.

Jeremiah was all too delighted to greet Jonathan and VerMillion when they arrived at the asylum. But his delight was diminished when Nathaniel arrived, inadvertently revealing his relationship to his father in front of Jonathan. Jeremiah tried to get everything back on track by telling them that Jonathan and Heather would be housed in different wings of the asylum, while Nathaniel speculated about VerMillion's fearlessness. Jonathan encouraged VerMillion to be quiet. So Jeremiah noted that Iris would be seeing Jonathan for his first session at the asylum, which both Nathaniel and Jonathan weren't happy about. Jonathan accused Jeremiah of being scared of him. Jeremiah accused Jonathan of being obsessed with him.

Meeting the Plant in Person

When given rec time at the asylum, VerMillion decided that was a good moment to put Heather in charge of things. Curious about the girl who'd been hanging out with Jonathan, Poison Ivy calmed her and introduced herself. Poison Ivy gently grilled Heather about her recent doings, learning about VerMillion's separation from Heather and Jonathan's altercations with Oswald. Poison Ivy noted that she could make Heather immune to fear toxin in the future, when they were both outside of the asylum. But when she upset Heather by questioning her relationship with Jonathan too hard, VerMillion got bothered enough about it to come to the surface. But even VerMillion agreed that being immune to fear toxin would be good, and Poison Ivy also decided to make sure that nobody would try to pick on the young woman at the asylum.

Search and Rescue

Nightwing and Wulfen went into the sewer to track down the Scarecrow. Jonathan told Heather to scream and pretend to be distressed to both lure and distract them, while he hid in the area where Kory was chained. Arsenal took over from Wulfen as they came close, but though he figured that Heather was a trap, he decided to go for her anyway and took her away from the scene to keep her safe. Nightwing kept his focus on Scarecrow, who used his hold on Kory to taunt him before telling her to kill him. Meanwhile, VerMillion came to the surface in Arsenal's arms and caused him enough trouble to keep him out of the fight. Not inclined to either fight or run as long as that was the case, she ended up sitting with him and explaining about her two selves and how hot she thought Jonathan was.

A Study in Impatience

Jeremiah had a session with VerMillion for an evaluation. When he asked about her relationship with Jonathan, she explained her frustrations about Jonathan keeping her at arm's length but her Heather personality being unwilling to let him go. Jeremiah said he thought Jonathan was stupid for not reciprocating her feelings. VerMillion then kissed Jeremiah and asked if he was stupid, and he accepted her affection. This prompted an argument between VerMillion and Heather, which VerMillion won by threatening to sabotage things with Jonathan, leaving Jeremiah and VerMillion no reason to not jump each other's bones. After that Jeremiah suggested that she could be moved to the cell across from Jonathan for Heather's benefit, and when she agreed he escorted her there, kissing her in front of Jonathan. This upset Jonathan, but VerMillion got angry at Jonathan for being so upset and Jeremiah simply told him that he was showing him what he was missing and left. Jonathan denied being upset.

Edward invited Jonathan to meet him at his current hotel room, hoping to ask him for a favor, though Jonathan was more interested in other things - possibly because Edward was only wearing a towel when he answered the door. However, before things got too far Edward found himself paralyzed as Nina arrived. She'd been told Edward's location by Jonathan, and she cared far more about giving Edward what she thought he deserved than whatever she'd interrupted. Edward begged for forgiveness, but it fell on deaf ears and she used her power to remove Edward's ability to have sex and speak. Jonathan's end of the deal having been completed, he asked Nina to maintain Edward's paralysis while he took him to his hideout. Their arrival woke up Heather. Jonathan tried to threaten Nina into undoing what she'd done, holding his sickle to Edward's throat and kissing him. But Nina refused and released Edward from his paralysis. Edward immediately grabbed Shawty and indicated a threat toward Nina's mother, but that wouldn't sway Nina either and she went to leave. Meanwhile, Heather was extremely upset when she saw Jonathan kissing Edward but complied with Jonathan's request to flip a lever anyway. Jonathan retreated to a safe place, hinting to Edward that he should join him, and Edward did so. Jonathan injected Edward with a drug that ensured that only Shawty would fall victim to the powerful, fear-inducing magnets and screams while Nina fled. Heather turned it off again and left, even more upset when Jonathan kissed Edward again. Shawty was reduced to a quaking mess, but Edward was not impressed. Edward found that the drug Jonathan had given him actually helped him to speak, but the side effects were too severe for it to be a solution to what Nina did so he used the time to swear revenge against both Jonathan and Nina.

Let Me In

Summer met with Heather, who had been Summer's lunch buddy before Jonathan kidnapped Heather. Summer asked Heather what happened, so Heather attempted to explain about the brave toxin and how Jonathan took care of her despite everything else that had happened. However, just as Heather was becoming more comfortable with the conversation she accidentally mentioned VerMillion, causing Summer to question why she did so. So Heather attempted to explain VerMillion, but was quick to insist that Jonathan wasn't at fault. She explained that VerMillion couldn't feel fear and that it was actually Oswald's fault. Summer asked if she could meet VerMillion, which prompted VerMillion to make an appearance. She told Summer that both she and Heather loved Jon, and then told Summer everything she could remember about Oswald's prison. Summer tried to tell VerMillion that Jonathan wasn't a good guy for her, but VerMillion agreed that another guy would probably be better but said that Heather wouldn't agree. Summer also said that she would investigate Oswald.

Poison Ivy was watching a soap opera in the rec room at the asylum when the Joker insisted on sitting next to her. The Joker asked why she hadn't escaped from the asylum yet and offered to help. She said she could do it herself and wasn't ready yet. The Joker got embarrassed when the soap opera was interrupted by live news footage of him gassing some police stations... even though he was at the asylum. He left quickly, bumping into VerMillion on the way out.

Dinah and Helena found themselves locked up at the asylum, but couldn't remember how they got there. Aside from the nurses who'd had them sedated, Victor was the first one to greet them as he was allowed to wander somewhat for good behavior. Iris arrived next, introducing herself as their therapist and offering to take them to the rec room until it was decided where they should be housed. They agreed with that, so they went to the rec room where Poison Ivy and VerMillion were present. Poison Ivy paid little attention, but VerMillion noticed their nerves and told them not to worry. Victor took an interest in VerMillion because she was new to him, accidentally hurting her and getting a sedative for it, but that didn't stop VerMillion from wanting to sit by him.

Jonathan decided that he needed to talk to Heather, who had been distraught after the incident with Edward and Nina. Jonathan tried to tell her that nothing was going on between him and Edward, but Heather said she was actually upset that regardless there was more going on between Jonathan and Edward than Jonathan and her. Jonathan explained that it wasn't about her by taking her to his old high school and explaining how he'd killed his bullies there. However, when Jonathan decided that was sufficient, Heather told him it was not. Jonathan then kissed her, which surprised her. Heather told him she wanted more of that as they left.

That included Jonathan, who had brought Heather with him. And Rooster, who had some recommendations about bringing lots of firepower. And Nina, who suggested that they try communicating first. And Talia, who remained silent. And Sivana, who expounded upon the complexities of swamp flora. And David, who suggested trying to remove the intelligent part from the rest of the swamp. And Babs, who was only there as an intern. Lex brought out an experimental module he'd been developing that could help them, and suggested that what they really needed was more information and suggested that they organize into a ground team to go look into the situation while an air support team hung back and took more of a support role. Those assembled began dividing up into teams.

Jonathan had invited Summer to have dinner with Heather and himself. Both Summer and Heather didn't fully trust the situation, but Jonathan was on his best behavior. Summer and Heather made some awkward small talk, but then Jonathan told Summer that he was planning on turning himself in and he wanted Summer to cover the story. Summer had reservations but agreed to do so, and tried to encourage Heather to stay with her. Heather didn't want that but said she would be happy to hang out with Summer later. Jonathan told Summer when he would be turning himself in, and she left.

VerMillion returned to her cell at the asylum excited because Jeremiah had agreed to set her and Jonathan free despite the possible risks. Jeremiah drugged a couple of the guards and disguised himself as one of them. He then tampered with the door controls of their cells to release them, though when he outlined the next steps of his plan Jonathan made a detour to steal Heather a new hamster from the research lab. Jeremiah led them to the asylum's morgue, where he'd stashed a change of clothes for himself.

Despite the risks involved, Oswald put out an open invitation to poker night at his mansion. Edward, Poison Ivy, and Black Mask arrived first, the latter being quite a surprise to everyone because Roman was known to be dead. VerMillion and Catwoman arrived as well, but Edward immediately objected to VerMillion's presence. Poison Ivy and Black Mask both dismissed Edward's complaint. Lola arrived just before the Joker made his grand entrance, followed closely by Two-Face who also made a mess. Bivins arrived and tried to blend in while wearing a Guy Fawkes mask. VerMillion recognized Black Mask for who he was and greeted him with kisses, confusing everyone but that didn't stop Edward from grabbing her and putting a gun to her head. Poison Ivy immediately threatened Edward, causing him to let VerMillion go again. Summer, undercover as a server, began helping with drinks. Oswald encouraged everyone to turn their attention to the poker game, though when Lola expressed an interest in Summer's pearls he told Summer to hand them over.

Victor went to Jonathan's place, where he indicated that he'd heard about the Scarebeast and wanted to learn more about how it was done. Jonathan agreed to give Victor what little he could in exchange for the blueprints for one of Victor's suits. Though they spoke in vague terms, Heather realized they were talking about some concoction of Jonathan's that she didn't know about, but her questions went unanswered.

Jeremiah finished a phone call and waited to see if the couple he'd been watching would notice him. Jonathan did notice, and he stopped his walk with Heather to talk to him, at least until Jeremiah started walking so they walked and talked. Jonathan tried to ask Jeremiah what he'd been up to, but Jeremiah remained evasive. Jeremiah found a bench to sit on and when Jonathan mentioned the last time they saw each other, Jeremiah mentioned that they'd kissed and nearly kissed Jonathan again. This stunned Heather but enraged VerMillion, who took over and told Jonathan that she was tired of him kissing everyone else, accused him of being afraid of girls, and informed him that they were going to sleep together. Jeremiah told Jonathan that he should kiss her, and he did.

Jonathan and Heather broke into a pharmacy, accidentally tripping the alarm in the process and alerting the police. When the police got close, Jonathan helped Heather into the air ducts and gave her a fear toxin canister. She dropped it when the officers entered the pharmacy and started trying to arrest Jonathan. Heather came down again and Jonathan pretended to take her hostage to get the police to back off.

Selina went to the address that was in a message left for her, only to find on her arrival that Jonathan was reacting poorly to an experiment he'd done on himself and Heather was freaking out about it. Neither Selina nor Heather knew what to do about it, but Heather noticed that Jonathan was attempting to use a syringe and had VerMillion inject him with it. This helped Jonathan to recover, so the immediate crisis was averted.

The month that Ra's al Ghul had given for Jonathan to analyze Man-Bat's transformation was up, so Ra's al Ghul tracked down Jonathan to the apartment he shared with Heather. Ra's al Ghul's men grabbed Jonathan and Ra's al Ghul demanded the finished product, but this terrified Heather so completely that VerMillion took over. VerMillion told Jonathan he shouldn't give Ra's al Ghul what he wanted, but Jonathan told her to go get it and she didn't argue further.

The Joker reclaimed the Amusement Park, but Heather didn't know that so she thought it was a good idea to look inside when she found a hole in the fence big enough for her. She ran right into the Joker, which frightened her so much that VerMillion took over almost immediately. VerMillion was calm enough to talk to the Joker, but the Joker got annoyed by how she didn't respect him because she didn't fear him, so he threw her into a pit and told two of the men who were interested in becoming his henchmen to kill her. However, an inmate named Bruno who knew Heather from the asylum was upset by this and tackled the Joker into the pit too. The Joker tried to talk Bruno out of his attempts to protect VerMillion, but that didn't work so well.
