- Charlotte, having been caught while shoplifting at a convenience store, was offered the opportunity to avoid juvie by Selina, who wanted to help her by taking her in. Charlotte accepted, and they went home to Selina's apartment. Selina helped her get cleaned up and talk to her about all the things they would need to do to get her settled in and set up, and how things would work between them. As they talked, Selina showed Charlotte how she used the bar hanging in her bedroom to practice acrobatics. Charlotte asked if she could try, and showed hints of natural skill as she pulled herself up onto it and sat on it. Selina suggested getting Charlotte into a gym. Charlotte asked Selina to help her call her brother, as that required getting past her former foster mother. The next morning they woke up early and went to a diner for breakfast, where Charlotte opened up a little about how she felt about her brother and his foster parents. They went shopping, first finding everything Charlotte needed to customize and decorate her new bedroom, and her bathroom. After that, they went to the salon for mani/pedis, haircuts, and Charlotte was given a makeup tutorial. Then they went to get frozen yogurt for lunch. After that they went shopping for clothes, Selina helping guide Charlotte through all the different categories of clothes she wanted her to have. They finished with clothing by finding Charlotte a couple of dresses, including a good one for the upcoming gala. The last stop was for a computer and cellphone, and then they finally went home. Where Charlotte got nauseous at the sight of all the stuff they'd bought, the speed of the change to her life getting to her a bit. Charlotte decided to take a nap, but accidentally slept longer than intended. That's when Batman arrived, questioning Selina's choice to take in Charlotte. Charlotte woke up as they began to talk, and Selina introduced Charlotte to Batman, who quickly left. Charlotte was surprised to learn that Selina regularly talked to Batman, and Seline explained that she was seeing him, and also Bruce Wayne. They went to get food from the kitchen as they continued to chat, Selina turning the conversation to Charlotte's likes and dislikes, getting to know her better. They talked about what sort of school Charlotte would want to go to as well. Then they worked on getting all of Charlotte's new stuff put away.

- Roxanne went to a candy shop, hoping to steal a fresh bag of it because she was out and didn't have enough money. While there she ran into Charlotte, who was also there to steal candy, and who helped Roxanne avoid the store's clerk and escape with the loot. Roxanne decided to repay Charlotte by offering her home as shelter for the night, as they were in the worst part of Gotham and nighttime was approaching. Roxanne offered to share her soup so Charlotte shared some of the candy she'd stolen. Charlotte got very upset when Roxanne took her pocketknife to look at it without permission, but they worked it out and Charlotte spent the night there.

- Charlotte got a text from Selina indicating that there was an emergency and she was leaving school early. Kory arrived first, though she didn't have a vehicle so they waited for Dick to arrive to drive them to Wayne Manor. They introduced themselves, as Charlotte only two Dick and Kory from pictures, and all confirmed that none of them knew what was really going on. They made small talk on the way, though it was difficult because Charlotte didn't know any identities and that limited conversation topics, and also Charlotte was being rather quiet. When they got to Wayne Manor, Dick quietly told Kory what he suspected about who they were worried about. Charlotte picked out a video game to play while Kory helped Alfred make hotdogs in the kitchen. They decided to finish their food before they actually played, having a gourmet spread of hotdogs and toppings for the hotdogs.

- Charlotte went to Roxanne's place after shoplifting at a nearby hardware store. Roxanne was happy to see her and traded a bird whistle for Charlotte's nails. As night came it proved to be abnormally peaceful in east Gotham and probably safe to travel, but Charlotte decided to spend the night anyway.

- Charlotte was at gymnastics practice, working on the balance beam, and Selina found a seat in the bleachers to watch. As Charlotte shifted to the vault, Harvey arrived and joined Selina, sporting injuries he hadn't told her about yet. They embarrassed Charlotte by cheering when she did the vault successfully, so she switched to the bars. Selina and Harvey talked about the difficulties of teenagers, and she gave him an envelope to look at later. Selina and another woman then gave demonstrations for the young gymnasts, then returned to sit next to Harvey. As Charlotte moved on to some floor exercises, they reminisced about when they were younger. Practice time finished, so Selina and Harvey met up with Charlotte and Harvey introduced himself to Charlotte. Harvey teased Charlotte, and Selina while he was at it, but Charlotte was simply skeptical of him. Harvey left, and Selina and Charlotte decided to go get pizza. As they did so, they talked about swimming, cops, and boys. Meanwhile, Harvey returned to work, and afterward looked at the envelope Selina had given him. It contained the paperwork required to give custody of Charlotte to him if something happened to Selina. He signed it.

- Babs met with Charlotte at the library for a tutoring session. In addition to the schoolwork, Babs asked Charlotte about herself, and Charlotte talked about her gymnastics class and how she met Selina. After the tutoring session, Selina picked up both of them and took them to pick up some pizza to share with the police officers at the station.

- Charlotte was interrupted from her homework by Selina wanting to go over the names and faces of some of the people who would be going to the gala. Selina left for a pre-gala event, and when she returned Charlotte was in the middle of getting prepped for the gala and Selina joined her. They talked about how different of an experience the gala would be for them, and their excitement but also nervousness about it. Selina gave Charlotte a few last-minute instructions and then they left.

- Selina and Lex took one last look to ensure that the preparations for the gala were complete, and Lex gifted Selina with jewelry to complete her outfit. Then they stood at the doorway to welcome their guests. Babs snuck some champagne and was called out on it by Thorne, but Renee helped her hide from her father. Edward confronted Summer about the papers she'd taken, only to be unsuccessfully interrupted by Vicki and successfully by Roy, who punched Edward in the gut and got escorted out. Charlotte lost Selina in the crowd, avoided Kory, and ran into Harvey. Rooster flirted with Gordon. Rowdy flirted with Zahira. Bivins flirted with Diana. Rooster discussed alcohol with Lex. Oswald introduced Lola to Edward. Piper met Elise. Talia arrived late and greeted Lex and Selina. And finally, the next phase of the gala began.

- When Harvey got contacted by the secret government agency he worked for again, he decided that he couldn't delay talking to Selina anymore. He went to Selina's apartment even though it was so late that it was early and talked to her even though Selina was in the bath at the time. Charlotte heard them talking and asked if Selina was okay, but when told that Harvey had just learned Selina's nighttime identity she didn't want to be excluded from the conversation. Selina talked her into leaving, so Charlotte waited outside of the door and Selina activated the anti-eavesdropping device. Harvey suggested that there'd be legal benefits to him marrying Selina, but when Selina said that it would corrupt him too much he revealed to her his work for the government. Selina didn't like that at all and they argued until Selina realized that Harvey didn't even find all the complications they were arguing over were even relevant. They kissed, but Harvey remembered that Charlotte was waiting before they got further than that. Selina went to tell Charlotte that everything was fine, but Charlotte was upset and went to her room. Harvey offered to go in after her, but Charlotte angrily drove him back out. Selina tried instead, leveraging Charlotte's curiosity to get her attention and giving her both a key to the apartment's secret gym and a paper to record Charlotte's measurements for a costume. Selina suggested that Charlotte should put her anger to good use and start combat training right then and there. That was enough to at least drain the energy out of Charlotte's anger.

- Bivins was surprised that his attempt to flirt with Diana succeeded, but then everyone was called to be seated for the dinner. At Table 1, Jeremiah and Gordon made polite conversation until they were joined by Bruce and Diana. Diana had to remind Bruce that he was at the gala with her because he was too distracted by worrying about Selina. At Table 2, Roy and Joan attempted to make pleasant conversation as the rest of the table were couples. Kory and Dick talked pleasantly with everyone, and Iris and Nathaniel fawned over each other. At Table 3, Babs was drunk and Charlotte was both appalled by this and took an instant dislike to Piper. The feeling was mutual. Piper chose to talk to Bivins instead, and both Elise and Renee were slow to arrive. At Table 4, Rooster shared her booze with Rowdy, who flirted with Lola even though she was clearly with Oswald. Rowdy spilled a drink trying to share the booze with Oswald, so Rooster took it back from him. Oswald treated Rowdy like he was nobody important. Rooster tried to encourage everyone to tell jokes, with slight success. Zahira just tried to remain unnoticed while Vicki tried to keep Rowdy corralled while casting jealous looks at Table 1. At Table 5, everyone awkwardly agreed that Selina had put them together on purpose. Harvey was tipsy but happy. Edward didn't cause any problems. Thomas and Helena made so many eyes at each other that Summer felt awkward sitting between them and offered to trade even though they insisted that they weren't together. After giving everyone a chance to get started on their meal, Lex gave a long, ego-driven presentation about how Gotham was horrible, but Metropolis had been horrible until he fixed it up so, of course, he could fix Gotham too. He explained some of his plans, and Selina offered a comparatively brief statement of support.

- Selina arrived at the station with Charlotte and Babs, announcing that they were bringing pizza to the police, who were in the thick of a case. Charlotte was not happy to be there, but she was making the most of it. Gordon announced a break, and Harvey and Bivins got the hot sauce ready. Babs inquired about the case they were working on. Selina introduced Charlotte to everyone.
