Tiffany stepped out of the van and was followed by several other FBI agents. After the assassination attempt he knew he had to push even harder. The fact that someone had decided to shoot at him meant that the costume freaks were only starting understand who they were dealing with. He had to handle them before they went into hiding or ended up killing more innocent lives. While he understood innocent lives would be lost, he did not want to purposefully increase the number by prolonging the process. He needed to start the hunt, but for the hunt to begin you had to have perfect information.
He slammed opened the door to the private own medical research lab as he held out his badge. "FBI, I need to speak with Dr. Nina Stenet immediately," he stated to the lobby area. He had no time to waste, and if she took longer then two minute then his men would destroy everything in the building until finding her. He brought up his wrist that held his watch. "You have two minutes."

Sitting at the receptionist's desk, Shawty is going through paperwork when a bunch of men burst through the door. Her hand is halfway to her concealed gun before the badge registers and she pauses, frowning at it suspiciously. Her eyes shift slowly from the badge to the man holding it as he demands to talk to Dr. Stenet, and she asks, "FBI? What's this about?" Apparently the seriousness and the urgency of the situation seems to be lost on her.
But at the time limit, Shawty's face falls and shifts to the standard 'are you serious?' expression as she quite calmly states, "I believe that Dr. Stenet is using the facilities. Does it really need to be that immediate? And if so, can I have the reason why we're in such a hurry?" The very short blonde seems singularly unimpressed by the flashing badges, number of men and the implied time limit.

He looked at the small woman who took his presence like just another client walking through the door. He turned to one of his men and stated in a stern quiet voice, "Two of you, go around the back and make sure no one is attempting escape."
He glanced down at his watch. "Whether she hurries out here or not is her choice, but I will start confiscating all of research under the PROTECT Act in," he paused for only a moment to glance at his watch, "One minute and fifteen seconds." He had raided many homes in Texas, and they all happened similarly. There was one person who attempted to stall while the true criminal escaped and another started destroying evidence. He would not give Dr. Stenet enough time to do either. He needed as many clues as he could find if he were to find the Riddler and Mr. Freeze. Her very association with these criminals made him question her loyalty in the city as well. She would end up in Blackgate for her crimes. Even though she had yet to confess, he knew she guilty.

Sighing in obvious reluctance at disturbing her boss, Shawty stands and walks into the hallway. It's not a very big building and her tap on the door as well as her half of the conversation can just be heard.
"There's a man from the FBI here to see you. He says you have about a minute to get out here or he's confiscating your research ... Yes, I told him ... What? ... But I can't tell him that! ... But ... Fine, I'll tell him."
Shawty reappears and looks a bit embarrassed as she clears her throat and says, "Dr. Stenet said that, seeing as it's that time of the month, she will require an additional minute. But she said that if you can't wait that long, I can assist you in confiscating her research." Shawty seems just as unaffected as ever aside from that embarrassment, however. She knows that, for the moment at least, she has nothing to worry about.
Nina isn't trying to escape or destroying evidence. Escaping would 'prove' her guilt, after all, and she'd have to be an idiot to keep any sign of Edward at her lab. And after analyzing the cure Mr. Freeze sent her, she literally has the stuff memorized so there was no need to hang onto the actual sample. So why the delay? She has her reasons.

Tiffany listened to the conversation patiently. He felt better knowing that she was actually still within the building, but he was a man of precaution. He was successful for a reason and the majority of that reason was knowing that most people were too easily tempted by the devil. They lied and cheated and for that they would be punished in the afterlife.
When the small woman came back with her statement, Tiffany's expression stayed neutral. He was a mature adult, and he learned long ago women were punished with the monthly visitor for being tempted by the snake lucifer. They did bit into a red apple...
"You can inform Dr. Stenet that I am strict on my rules. No exceptions," he stated taking another look at his watch. It had been two minutes. "I would prefer if you actually did not help my men," he ordered. He waved his hand to the research area. He, however, stayed and waited for the Doctor with the young woman. His men could be seen walking out of the building with boxes and notebooks. Tiffany was a patient man, so he stood staring at the bathroom door with an expressionless face waiting for anything strange to occur.

As it happens, there is only one object in the entire building that Nina cares about: her laptop. One of the advantages of the small size of the building is that someone bursting into the reception area can be heard everywhere, and Nina didn't need to know who it was to know that she should take the precaution of hiding it. Whether it was the police, one of Edward's 'friends', or practically anyone else - if you barge in you're someone she doesn't want finding her laptop.
So she'd reached over to Shawty where she knew her assistant would be in the reception area and made her left ring finger go numb to let her know where she'd end up. Not that the hiding place she'd used is in the bathroom, but it's the place she could get to after stashing her laptop (in a place only findable by knowing the spot, razing the building, or being Batman or Edward) without risking being spotted in the reception area. It wasn't until Shawty knocked on the door that she knew who had come and why. That's when she decided that she needed an extra minute. Just because.
"Okay," Shawty replies, not bothering to actually go tell Nina that. Instead she simply stands next to the wall where she'll be out of the way and waits, looking totally unconcerned.
A similar expression is worn by Nina as she steps out of the bathroom a full 45 seconds late, drying her hands with a paper towel. "Nice to see my tax dollars at work," Nina remarks as she watches someone walk by with a box full of her stuff.

As the door open he saw a professional woman walk out drying her hands. Her remark is almost useless to him. He knew she meant those words in sarcasm, but she would never understood how true they really were. The tax dollars were finally being accurately used instead of wasting away with the Washington DC bureaucracy. It made Tiffany feel once more proud to be apart of something so much larger then him. He would bring about the new era and a Doctor would not be preventing it.
"Doctor Stenet, I am Agent Tiff," he stated, side stepping the young assistant. He held out his hand and grabbed her partially wet one. His eyes glanced into the bathroom to see if anything was drastically amiss. Satisfied with what he saw he turned his eyes back to hers. He brought his hand back to his side. "I have questions for you and I would stress that you answer them honestly. As always, there are consequences to lying," he stated trying to determine the demon that had pulled this woman into such darkness. He had studied her background and for someone so successful in helping the health community it was hard to believe she could se easily fall into the pit of evil.
He didn't wait for her okay, he merely continued, "When was the last time you spoke with Edward Nashton, alias Edward Nigma or better known as the Riddler? Please attempt an exact date and time."

The smile that Nina gives him when he shakes her hand is stiff and forced but, then again, he is confiscating all of her research. When he releases her hand she continues to wipe with the paper towel as if trying to cleanse it again.
And his statements cause her to purse her lips and instead of answering his question she comments, "Consequences? I know a thing or two about those. There's consequences to lying, consequences to telling the truth, consequences to standing here silently trying to make up my mind. I'm afraid that I'm not as free to speak as I'd like to be - you're not the only one who has threatened me recently. And they didn't threaten to send me to prison." She frowns and adds, "Welcome to Gotham, Agent Tiff."
Her thoughts are following a similar course, trying to determine her best choice here. She's already determined, at the cost of her paperwork, that Agent Tiff is too by-the-book and not the least bit sympathetic. She has a few cards she can play, but she has to be very, very careful with them because she can't waste a single one.

He let a small frown appear on his face at her comment. She had danced around the question all together. It was something he had seen in many interrogation and as always it was annoying. But as mentioned before Tiffany was a patient man...
"I am not asking for your philosophies or opinions on life or Gotham," he stated as more men brought more boxes out and other men came back in for another trip. "So please hold those to yourself," he stated, "I will stress that you are under investigation for terrorism. Trust me, if you fail to answer one more of my question I will have no problem sending you to Guantanamo Bay, and since I've noticed that most citizens in Gotham do not watch the news, I'll inform you that President Obama does not intend to close that base for another two years." His tone stayed even, but his eyes showed how serious he truly was. She was in a suspicious position and if she didn't hold her standing in the medical community Tiffany would have skipped questioning all together.
The wall behind her seemed to be getting darker though. It felt like she was the flat of an oil field and once he started digging darkness would flood out. "Please answer the question, Dr. Stenet," he stated.

There's a pause as she considers his words and her options. He's giving her so few of them, and she doesn't like any of them. But it doesn't take her more than a few moments of pondering before a grim, but genuine, smile comes to her face and she calmly says, "You make it such an easy choice. I'm much better off going to Gitmo than I am answering any of your questions." Despite her smile, her tone indicates that she's every bit as serious about that as he is.
"I'm innocent of any real wrongdoing, but if that's the choice then I'd much prefer remaining alive," she explains, still very calm as she discards a few worthless cards in hopes of a better hand. While there's a slight possibility that when he sees just how firm she's standing that he'll alter his tune accordingly, she's certainly not counting on it. He seems too firm himself to give her more than the two options. So it looks like she's going to have to go with option 3.

One of his eyebrows rose on his forehead showing the slight bit of confusion by her response. He had assume that he would be taking her into custody and shipping her out before the conversation had even begun, but he had thought it would occur farther in the line of questioning. For her not to even have the ability to answer the first question proved her guilt to him. Her nonsense of saving her life was barely a thought on his mind. Telling him the last time she had seen the Riddler could not be considered dangerous. It was probably the same question the GCPD had asked her...unless the GCPD had failed their jobs...again. He mentally frowned at the thought.
He finally nodded at her statement before reaching under his coat for handcuffs. He walked behind her as he grabbed one of her wrist. "You are under arrest, Dr. Stenet," he stated causually not even mentioning her miranda rights. She had lost those when she decided to be involve with criminals. "If you attempt escape you will be seen as an enemy of the United States Government and will be killed on sight," he added with his same mono tone voice as he went to cuff the first wrist.
The other men who were moving stuff in and out of the building didn't even pause in their work until Tiffany locked eyes with one and nodded him to come forward. He did not want the Doctor escaping. He also did not want the assistant attempting anything dramatic. The other agent nodded and put down the box he was carrying on the desk and walked towards the assistant.

Having given the agent many, many chances to show the slightest hint of being understanding or kind but getting absolutely nothing, Nina's firmly of the opinion that silence really is the correct choice. Had he been willing to bargain she would have, somewhat reluctantly, handed Mr. Freeze to them for her freedom. Edward she's more uncertain about; of course she doesn't want it to ever be her fault for getting him arrested, but then again she doesn't doubt that he'd be able to figure out how to escape even from the FBI.
But, like she said, Agent Tiff was making it easy: nobody like him has a prayer of ever getting anything from her. The only thing remotely worth it to her is having the freedom to continue her work, and as long as she doubts that it's on the table she has no intention of helping him. Because any half decent person would be willing to give someone like her that option, even with the small hints that she may have done wrong. "I understand," Nina says simply, not resisting even the slightest as she's handcuffed.
But then, she's only being the model of passiveness on the surface; she's already mulling over all of her options. But none of them include acting at this moment: the only things she can think of that have any real chance of success would probably hurt a lot of people. And letting herself get sent all the way to Gitmo isn't out of the question either - Nina's not one to completely discard any of the possibilities until she's completely sure of her course.
Shawty, meanwhile, follows Nina's example and doesn't resist at all herself, aside from the annoyed look on her face. She's willing to kill or die for Dr. Stenet, but since the doctor isn't giving her any orders either verbally or with any of their pre-arranged signals from her gift, she obviously doesn't want her to fight back. Which means that Shawty gets to stand there and wait to see if they decide that she's guilty by association or if Nina will be getting all the blame and she's free to go. Neither of which she's particularly happy with, so she frowns at the agent who gets sent in her direction though she doesn't so much as shift her weight.

Once Tiffany placed the handcuffs on both wrist, he started to push her forward as if she were any other criminal. Once they were in a more secure location he would bag her head and she would be shipped out of Gotham. He, himself, wasn't exactly positive where every criminal was being sent. It was past his clearance level. He assumed Gitmo or another off shore facility, but it wasn't his place to judge. His trusted his superiors to make the correct choice. He walked her outside of the building towards the second van labeled FBI. The two men who had stopped their work went to the back doors and opened them. He pushed Nina forward to suggest she step up into the back of the van, and he followed right after her. The doors shut behind him and he heard the lock go into place. The vans were bullet proof and almost impossible to escape once locked inside. He put pressure on her shoulder as a physical sign to sit down. When she was sitting he stood above her. He kept his eyes on her waiting for any sudden movements. She might appear innocent, but she was terrorist. You could never let appearances trick you, and the shadow dancing at her feet only reminded him of that. He knocked on the wall closest to the driver. A second later the car started.
When the car moved, Tiffany placed his feet to balance himself. He would not sit down at the same level as a women drenched in sin. "Dr. Stenet, I only have this ride to speak with you and then you will become but a forgotten memory," he stated calmly.
"I truly only had one question for you, but I was giving you a chance to share your innocence with the basic interrogation. But since you have accepted your guilt I will merely explain," he said. His eyes looked down at her with his own judgement. His eyes were such a dark brown that they almost looked black. "You were witnessed at a museum robbery with the Riddler. The Riddler is seen on camera coming to your apartment and kidnapping you less then two weeks after. The Ventriloquist and the Riddler are seen entering your apartment two weeks after that. There is footage of the Ventriloquist coming out followed later by the Riddler and a bloody bed spread. You are assumed dead. A month later, you appear alive and creating your own firm. A week after your reappearance the Riddler threatens to bomb the city through biological weapons. The month you went missing you were with the Riddler. The question brought by myself was whether it was through threat or willingness, but it was simple to solve. You recently purchased a new apartment on North side. You had the money, but you did not pay for it" he stated taking a step forward as the car began to move, "I found the title, but your name was missing. Did you know that Arthur Wynne created the crossword puzzle?" he paused. His entire conversation was spoken with a level voice. He was waiting for reactions. "The Riddler might take himself for a genius, but the obsession with pride leads to all men's biggest mistakes. There are six other homes in Gotham under that name. I have raided them all. You should not be surprised that I found the apartment," he informed her.
He had not informed her that they had not found the Riddler there. He wanted to see her reactions and judge if his theory was correct. He also wanted her to realize that he did not necessarily need her. She would only make the process smoother and less difficult.

Nina is easily led out of the lab and into the van, perfectly compliant. On the surface she's perfectly calm, while on the inside the only thing really holding back her nerves is there isn't room for them among all the thinking. If you'd asked her before, she'd say that she'd never consider trying to escape from authority - she does believe and support the law. But this... if this is the law, then she doesn't believe in it.
She's very quiet as she sits in the van preferring her thoughts over the reality. Her eyes drift to the far wall and stay there, not particularly interested in any further interactions with Agent Tiff. Though she does find herself listening to his words. And yet her face remains completely passive; partly because she's determined to not let whatever this man says bother her, and partly because it really doesn't. She already knows all the 'facts', and what it looks like.
And the last part doesn't worry her; she knows Edward. While she doesn't believe all his own hype about how flawless he is, she does know that he'd have a plan in place for any of his places being raided. Perhaps not specifically by the FBI, but given what he does with himself, they're not the only ones who might do so. Naturally, he'd get away. And in the off chance that he didn't, he'd escape - that's a given. Agent Tiff could tell her he was dead and she wouldn't believe it until she saw the body.
She lets the silence hang for a moment when he's finished in the off chance he wants to say anything more, but when he doesn't, she calmly says to the wall she's looking at, "I haven't 'accepted my guilt', I've accepted that you are a self-righteous prick who won't listen to me. So there's no sense in me talking to you."

Putting her own blame upon him was what any person trapped with their own mistakes and bad decisions would do. People could never accept what they themselves had sewed. So he was not surprised by the statement. He did not respond to it because it did not deserve response. She would face her judgement with God and He would inform her of her mistakes. You cannot lie to God.
He was somewhat surprised from her lack of reaction. She seemed to be numbed to it all. Possibly denial. Well that would make things difficult. He needed the information before she was shipped away, and he would not be letting her go until getting it. While his superiors were to contain the criminals his job was to find them. He was very close to finding the Riddler, and he also needed Freeze. He hoped to find clues on Freeze location within the papers they had confiscated. She was doing something for the man, and it would be buried in her work. The Riddler, however, was finished. She had supplied the biochemical weapons and now they had no other relation. But it bothered him that her only payment was through a bought apartment. The apartment was expensive, but not enough to compensate the weapons. She obviously was not threatened so she did it willingly.
He stared at her for a few more moments. She was not going to willingly help him. Well the rules required that she did. He could not disappoint those above. He also would not disappoint them for a demon who had taken over the woman's soul. She was lost and no longer human.
In one quick moment he pulled out his gun from his holster, took aim at her kneecap, and pulled the trigger.
"I don't think we are understanding each other," he stated, "I have a limited time, and I do not fail."
