Stumbling around to get up from sitting on the couch with his laptop on his lap, Dick had been working on a few files, doing some research. Though he was getting annoyed with coming up with no answers to his recent questions on some robberies increasing. He shut the laptop as he fumbled around with it to place it on the end table to the left side of where he sat as he was going for his crutches. That's right crutches. Dick was stuck on crutches after his little run in with Jane Doe. She had stabbed his right Achilles tendon. He was lucky she hadn't gotten all that deep. It had been enough to keep him from standing on it when it had happened. It could have been worse. Dick hated to think about what it could have been like and how long it would have taken for it to heal if she had gotten it all the way threw.
Dick hadn't been willing to take any chances and come up with a solid story for the accident when he got to the ER to have surgery done right away to help line up again. If he hadn't gotten out when he had, he hated to even think what Jane Doe would have done to him.
He had failed at that mission. Two people had died because he had been unable to save them from her. He didn't even want to think about what she was going now. How many other innocent lives she could be taking over. It was something that had haunted him since that night. But there was nothing he could do. He couldn't challenge her again in his condition. He knew she was a fast learner and would turn everything she had against him and the out come would not be good. It was too risky at the time. She wasn't one for sympathy, she would have killed him in cold blood and could have easily tried to take on his life. Dick could let that happen to Babs, and not even Bruce.
After all Dick had done and how much he had screwed up between all of them. Though he was hoping he might be able to change things for the better after that. With having Babs around he was hoping maybe this would be less complicated. Lucky for her, she had helped move in some of her larger equipment and boxes into the place before the accident, but she still have a few more things to move in before it was official.
Dick got a hold of the crutches as he stood up and supported his weight on his hands as he crutched away from the couch. He had used them before. This wasn't the first time. There was never really a first time for any injury it seemed for Dick. He had been shot, stabbed, beaten, broken arms, ribs, legs, the list could go on with his injuries. But for some reason he was having trouble focusing on what he was doing now.
Getting caught on the cafe table with the leg crutch, Dick almost fell forward, but he was able to catch himself with the other crutch as he ended up near the counter to the kitchen area. Dick was getting so frustrated lately. His mind just didn't seem to be in the game some days. Regaining the left crutch in his hold, Dick angrily turned on his left leg a bit and threw the crutch a bit more than half way across the room in anger.
It landed with a loud thud near a bit pass the couch and cafe table. Dick leaned back against the counter his right crutch still propped underneath his arm. Ruffling his hair is frustration, Dick tried to get a grip. He couldn't let Babs walk in on him like this. He didn't want to upset her.
Though there was little keeping him from getting upset. He was pretty good at hiding most things, but his anger was just growing at times. He had his good days and his bad when it came to crime fighting as well. Things just seemed to be off lately ever since his run in with Bruce in the Batcave.
It was hard to believe the two of them had been so close in the years past. And after just a few changes the two acted like two lions fighting to keep the other away from what was theirs. Dick didn't like this at all. It was getting ridiculous. Everything was becoming a competition. They could work together when need be, but neither of them communicated during a fight, only causing more problems. Not just with the crime, but between them. It's not like Dick wanted to go back, but he did wish things could just cool down a bit and not be so at each others throats in a way.
Dick heard the front door to his penthouse opening. Knowing it was Babs returning. Dick moved off the counter and worked his way back to where his other crutch had landed.
Even with being on crutches, Dick was still finding away to be out on the streets as Nightwing. He had gone through a couple of different methods of some sort of supportive brace designed boot. But had yet to come up with one to keep up with him. He was lucky his leg was just in an ace wrap and not a cast.
Things just seemed to be piling up in problems. First Bruce, then the poison, and not this. And with all this weighing on him. Babs only knew half of what was bothering him.

[/b] Babs commented, bending down to gather up the shopping she'd placed on the floor. "Dick, you can't keep hobbling around on... that!" Babs said, gesturing to the wrap on his leg before picking up a bag of shopping. "You're going to end up damaging it further," she stated, crossing to the kitchen. She felt bad about Dick's injuries, and she wished he'd stay inside until it healed, but that wasn't Dick's style. He was a little too stubborn to be held back by a leg injury. She placed the bags of shopping on the counter and turned to walked back to Dick. She stood in the doorway and looked across at him, one eyebrow slightly raised. [/ul]

"Uh, Hey. Didn't expect you back so early," Dick replied, not really wanting to respond to the 'poor little bird' phrase. It was a good thing no one else was there to here that. He looked back over at her when she had addressed him, he was only a step or two form the crutch he had thrown. He figured Babs had thought that he might have just dropped it or something.
"Me hobbling around? I think I've been doing pretty will with and without these things," Dick commented in response to her concern over the injury. "Besides, I was even thinking of running in that marathon race they have this up coming weekend," he said sarcastically. Not in a really happy mood that he couldn't even walk on it. He figured while Babs was living there, that he would at least use the crutches to get around in the place and public. But as soon as night came, he was back on two feet. He had cut back on his patrolling quite a bit since the injury. He had even given up riding his motorcycle around.
And when Dick was giving up those kinds of things, especially holding back on the more difficult work outs against the criminals in Gotham, he was getting a little irritable over it. Though for Babs not to worry over him and not hold his back from going unsupervised on his patrols, he was willing to do what he could to do what he could on his own. It was bad enough he was cooped up most of they day sitting around in the penthouse. It was only mid morning and Dick was already bored out of his mind and couldn't focus on his work. He rather be out on the streets investigating what he could.
Yet, there he was on crutches dressed in nothing but a white t-shirt and a pair of blue basketball style shorts, and barefoot. What was the point of putting shoes on if he was going to be sitting around all day and would only be able to wear one shoe. The ace wrap was visible and wrapped from around his foot, up to just below his knee.
"How was the chaos at the local grocery store for you," he said. "Have to fight your way through the morning mob?" Dick bend down, balancing himself on his left foot as he picked up the crutch on the floor. When he stood again and had both crutches supporting him, he turned and looked to see Babs raising an eyebrow at him. "What? Why are you giving me that look," Dick asked her. A little puzzled by her at the moment. She had just came in and what did she expect to see, him passed out on the couch?
"By the way, the only reason this wrap is staying on is because I don't like the sight of the stitch job the doc did," he stated, only adding to the point of all this. Though the wrap was only for supporting the muscles since Dick refused to let them cast his leg. He crutched a few steps over toward her, giving her a puzzling look. "What? Did I do something wrong," added once again in a more concerned tone that he may have upset Babs with something he said.

[/b] she announced, shaking her head. "I'm just worried Dick, the more you spend hobbling around on your leg - which is barely supported as it is - the more injury you're doing," Babs told him. "The longer it will take to heal and the longer you will spend being completely insufferable," she added. Dick was definitely far more snappy now he had to use the crutches, he seemed to grow frustrated at everything, even Babs it seemed. She didn't want to have to live with that, simply because she was used to good old, cheery Dick. She was used to a Dick with a smile on his face no matter what he was suffering, just always happy-go-lucky about whatever happened to him. Angry Dick was not someone she would enjoy living with. "The morning mob were fine, shopping isn't nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be," Babs mused after a while, deciding to answer his earlier question now to try and distract from the fact she'd called Dick insufferable. She didn't quite mean it like that, because she loved Dick - although she couldn't remember if she'd ever shared this fact with him. Babs decided that was probably something to mention a different time. Not when they were discussing the morning shopping. But love was the kind of driving emotion that meant Babs continued to let Dick hobble around the city as Nightwing rather than order him to be cooped up inside the apartment whilst his leg healed. Babs' love for Dick meant she knew him better than to assume he would be happy to stay inside and not patrol. If he'd even listen to her, that was. "It's boring - it's great," Babs said. It was nice to do something where the worst damage to be inflicted was on a bank balance and not the potential death of a human being. It was so simple, so mundane, and Babs loved it a lot. It was just grocery shopping though - clothes shopping was still a nightmare of a task.[/ul]

Dick watched her as she still stood in the door way, arms crossed and a smile on her face at the start. He wondered what he was getting himself into. Keeping his eyes concentrated on her, he listened to her as she said no and shook her head and continued on. He knew she was worried about him and that she would prefer him to have down time while injured. He would have brought up the face that she had been going around still when her rib had been healing, but decided to hold his tongue on that one.
"Worried, injured, healing, insufferable," Dick picked out most of what he had heard and wasn't too pleased to have heard. He was getting a little annoy with what was being said. He stared back at Babs, not really giving her a reading on his thoughts. Dick was about to she didn't know insufferable until she had worked and lived with Bruce sometimes twenty-four seven.
He let the room fall silent as he left his repeated words hung in the air. It was best for the two of them if he held back, even if it just build up anger in him. He had no right to take it out on Babs. She didn't deserve that. He had invited her into his home and he was making it uncomfortable for her. This place was no longer just his, Babs had as much of a right to the place as he had now. She lived there. He expected her to speak up if something was bothering her. She was better at it than he was.
He dropped eye contact when he noticed Babs was more focused on his leg than his eyes. When she spoke up again back to his earlier comment, Dick was sure it was best to drop the subject of his injury for now and the fact she had said he was being insufferable. That was something that was going to stick with him for a while. But he didn't want to cause any problems between them. He didn't want to start an argument with her.
He made eye contact with her once again, showing in his eyes that he was willing to let the last comment slide for now. But if she thought he would forget, she better think again. "I've never really heard anyone say that before," Dick joked lightly on her opinion of shopping.
"It beats stilling around and watching tv or working on the computer endlessly," he said. "Out of over 400 channels, there is hardly anything entertaining to watch around 10 am." He started crutching his way over to her. He stopped about half way when he made it pass the couch and cafe table. The crutches were a breeze for him. It was all upper body strength when it came to using them.
He decided just for the fun of it and to get a reaction from Babs he would try something. He knew both of them needed a break from his doom and gloom attitude about what he had gone through lately with all his problems. "Though I did find another way of entertaining myself while you were out," Dick replied a slight mischievous smirk on his face. He knew Babs would probably want to freak out on him for showing her what he was up to, but it would be worth the laugh.
Dick had stopped short for a reason, rather than coming up close to her. Dick set his crutches in away that they were completely straight and brought his legs close together and almost straight, with more weight on the left then the right. Then he started to put all his weight into his hands and arms on the crutches. And he slowly processed to lift his feet off the ground and brought his body parallel to the air above the crutches. He continued raising himself until he was in a complete hand stand on the crutches. Dick knew what he was doing. It wasn't the first time he had done this and it wouldn't be the last as long as he was on them.
He ignored any comment or complains that Babs may have said through out him performing this as he shifted his weight to be able to crutch while he performed the hand stand to turn and face Babs. He had been watching the ground as he moved on the crutches and concentrating on balancing himself on the crutches as well as holding his own weight on them. He then looked towards Babs, who was now upside down in his view. A wicked grin on his face as he did so.
And before she would be even more furious with him, Dick processed to lower his body the exact same way he had done to perform this stunt. Once he was back with his feet on the ground. He did a 180 turn on the crutches to face Babs. The same stupid grin upon his face. "That's for calling me insufferable," he said jokingly, holding back wanting to laugh. He had merely done it because he could and knew it would end the argument that he could have started. Though he figured Babs wouldn't be happy with him doing that either, it at least helped him get his mind off of his recent problems.

[/b] Babs began, and trailed off as she watched him, her eyes flickering from the bottom of his crutches to ensure they were stable to him. She closed her eyes in exasperation as he pulled himself up to a handstand on the crutches. You decide to date an acrobat, and these kind of things would happen, Babs thought. Of course, she was used to Dick revelling in his abilities and showing off, in the sort of way that Babs knew meant he was proud of his heritage and roots. This, however, was just pure moronic entertainment. She watched as he lowered himself again, turning to face her. Babs had pursed her lips, arms still crossed over her chest, her eyebrow raised again. It was like scolding a puppy, Babs thought, you couldn't scold a puppy for something they'd already done, because they wouldn't understand exactly what you were scolding them for. In fact, Babs happened to think Dick's trick was actually quite impressive, given the circumstances, but those were the kind of comments best kept to herself rather than encourage her wayward boyfriend's childish behaviour. On one hand, Babs was pleased he was finding something to amuse himself whilst he was in such a state, and she understood the kind of frustration he was going through. However, she also thought in science and in facts, and he was stressing his body out at the same time as damaging his leg further. The two parts of Babs were arguing with themselves internally, and she remained frozen in her position for a few seconds as they battled. "You are insufferable," Babs replied, a smile across her face. She leaned forward, placing a hand each side of Dick's face and giving him a small kiss on the lips. "And I guess that makes me glutton for punishment," she pointed out, looking at Dick's face briefly before her hands dropped and she took a deep breath. "I'm glad you've found a way to amuse yourself Dick, maybe you can go shopping next time," Babs asked, deciding to forget the rising argument that had been happening between them. She was about to ask if he was planning to run the marathon like that, but decided it was probably best not to plant wild ideas in to his head. Babs paused as her phone rang briefly, signifying she had a text. She pulled it from her pocket and began to read, and as she did so something came to her mind. "So, where did you sneak out to last night, Grayson?" Babs asked, her eyes on the phone. "Because, frankly, if you think you're gonna get anything past me, then you seriously underestimate my abilities," she pointed out, but she still had a smile on her face. She certainly didn't suspect Dick was up to anything, probably just investigating or looking for something. She took her eyes up from the phone to look at Dick. "Is it another girl, Dick? Because I know this apartment is pretty big, but you can't keep moving us in like we're stray kittens," she joked. [/ul]

Dick just smiled back at her comment about him. Of course she was using that word again. He was just glad to see they were both just cooling off at least. It was something they needed. Dick felt like even with Babs living with him, they had hardly had any time to just hang out or goof around while at the penthouse. He usually buried himself in work be it computer programing or investigating. And it seemed Babs was always out working. But Dick did want to give her her space. Just because they lived together didn't mean they needed to spend every second of the day together.
As soon as her hands were on his face, he returned that kiss to her. "Well, I'm glad for that then," he responded. Hearing her next comment, Dick stopped and gave it a bit of thought. Looking like he was really trying to visualize himself doing the shopping. "You know that would be quite the sight to see. I don't really have the free hands to do it, but I'm sure I could figure away to juggle the items and all," he started in jokingly, like she was helping to build more way for him to try new tricks when it came to do the every day tasks.
Dick was about ready to sit back again for a while. Boy, trying all those stunts on the crutches sure could make your arms feel sore after a while. He stopped before was about to turn when he notice Babs directed the question at him. He figured it had something to do with the text message she had just gotten. "No where in particular," he replied coolly to her. He was wondering what she might be driving at.
"What? How could you even think a thing like that," Dick said in a mocked shock reaction to her accusation. He smiled at her after he was done playing around. "I don't really see that working out too well anyways," he replied jokingly. "I wasn't really planning on inviting anyone else."
"What's with the question any ways," he asked her. Wondering now what the text was, he really was wanting to take a peek at that text now if Babs didn't tell him why she had brought up his where abouts last night. He'd take the phone from her if she didn't tell him and he knew she knew he would try to, given the chance.
"I don't think you have to worry about me getting fair on my legs. And even if I did do something wrong, there is no use in threatening to break on of my legs," he jokingly teased. He let his arms have some slack as he put most of his weight on his left leg and let the crutches rest under his arms. From some reason, he was feeling a bit worn at the moment.

[/b] Babs asked with a grin. "A boy then?" she teased and briefly disappeared into the penthouse kitchen so she could put the kettle on and make herself a coffee. She continued to wal to Dick as she did this, calling a little louder so he could still hear her just as clear. "You better watch it, Grayson, if you annoy me, I'll snap your other tendon," she joked, reappearing in the doorway and leaning on the doorframe again, her eyebrow arched. "I'd like to see you try do your boy wonder tricks then," she smiled warmly. Babs' teasing was something Dick would have grown so used to over the years of knowing her. At first her teasing had been intentional, even hurtful, but as they got to know each other and worked together more, building up a relationship, it had become affectionate. Babs knew Dick would do exactly the same thing to her if the cast were on the other foot. She glanced at his leg again, wondering if the doctor had told Dick the estimated time for healing a ruptured achilles tendon. Babs wasn't sure whether she ought to mention it, because it wasn't quite something that healed over night. In fact, something like that could take up to a year to heal completely depending on severity. Babs was no medical expert herself but a good look at Dick's x-rays would probably give her a good idea of the time period they were looking at. She made a mental note to have a quick look over the hospital system when she got onto her computer a little while later. "I'm just interested in where you went," she added when he asked why she was questioning him. "Sleep walking, maybe? Heading out to pick up a carton of milk?" Babs smiled. She began to think that no matter what happened between Dick and herself, there was always something to be discovered. Something he was holding back for whatever reason. Perhaps Dick didn't throw himself into their relationship in quite the same way as Babs did. Usually they got by without too much difficulty. She didn't want to cause problems by enquiring about his location. "We should change your bandages," she pointed out. [/ul]

"No," Dick spat out at her question. He knew she was just teasing him. He watched her walk into the kitchen and heard her fiddling around with the kettle "Good luck with that one Babs," Dick replied. "You can't take me down so easily." He smiled to himself at the thought of Babs trying to threaten him.
When she reappeared in the door way, he smiled at her. "I bet you would," he replied. He started to crutch away from the door a bit headed toward the couch. As he moved away, he could some how sense that Babs was still keeping her eye on his injured leg.
"No, just out," he said as he continued his journey back to the couch. "It's nothing important. Just keeping an eye out on a few places that seem to becoming more active recently in crime waves." He wasn't necessarily lying about it. He did patrol as he went out to get the serum to hold off the toxins in his system.
"And would you stop trying to inspect my leg? It's not like you're some how going to develop x-ray vision and be able to see how it look," he stated, knowing her all too well. He figured she might try to get into the computer systems and find things out for herself. He hadn't brought home anything with him form the hospital besides the crutches and prescription medicine. He knew she was only concerned, but there was nothing to worry about. In a matter of weeks, he'd be almost as good as new. It might take a bit to build it up after that, but once the muscle started to mend he should be able to perform pretty well on the leg. At least he thought he should be able to be.
Once he got to the couch he set the crutches off to the side and sat down, keeping off his right leg. He sat back and smiled at Babs, knowing she probably didn't care all that much for his comment. And when she said something about the bandage, he looked at his leg. "What's wrong with this one," he commented sarcastically. "I guess your right."
He lift put his right leg with his foot resting on the edge of the coffee table. He leaned forward and bend his knee more to have his leg closer to him as he started to undo the bandage. Unwinding the first layer, not yet revealing the injury. As he pulled it away, on the underside of his leg, he had a large gash were the knife had been dug into his leg. There were many stitches in place to try and help it heal. It was still quite fresh from the injury occurring only a few days ago. It was red and there was swelling all around the area. Obviously, he had not been staying off it like he should have been and not icing it all that much on his down time.

[/b] she bit back dryly. She watched with interest as he placed his foot on the coffee table and began to undo the bandages. She uncrossed her arms and moved across the room towards him, observing as she continued to unwrap it. He pulled the last off and she was able to view the injury freely, and she noted a somewhat abysmal stitch work. Babs was by no means a doctor but she felt much like Alfred could have done a better job stitching up the injury. Her main issue was the obvious fact that Dick hadn't been taking care of it like he ought to have. It certainly seemed inflamed and almost painful, and she wondered if it was causing Dick any kind of discomfort. Babs figured it was probably awkward to have, but she hadn't considered it might actually be hurting him. "Dick, you haven't been looking after this," Babs pointed out. She looked up from his leg and glanced at his face. There was no use berating a man who wasn't going to help himself. Babs shrugged her shoulders, shaking her head. Whatever she had to say was right there in those two actions. Her disappointment in Dick was clearly evident. If he wanted to get back out and fighting as Nightwing again, he had to look after his leg. "You have to take this seriously, Dick. For once, take something seriously, please," Babs said. She showed no anger with Dick, only concern and disappointment for what had happened. She knew how annoying an injury could be when it slowed someone down, but he had to take reasonable precautions to look after it. "I'm not asking you to sit at home all day and I'm not asking you to stop finding weird and obscure ways to amuse yourself," she pointed out quietly. "I'm just asking you to take better care of yourself," Babs continued, standing up straight after observing his leg and heading to get some of their medical supplies so she could rebandage the leg for him. He heard what Babs had said, but frankly was to annoyed to respond at first. He knew she was getting on his case because she was worried about him. He knew he could have been doing more to take care of this injury, but he had other things on his mind. Things that Babs wouldn't understand.
There was a still silences from him, and not a comfortable silences. He had heard what she had said, but couldn't believe her choice of words. He knew she didn't say it in anger. But what made it worse was she said it in plain honesty over what had gone on.
Words spoken in anger were often words that one regretted. But works of disappointment and concern were different. Dick had grown up with such things and knew the difference between them. There was tension growing in the room as Babs left to get the supplies. "So, you think I don't take things seriously," Dick finally spoke, his words cold and defensive.
This was a road long less traveled between the two of them. "I know how to take care of myself, the best why I know how," Dick replied sharply, moving his foot off of the coffee table and back onto the ground. "I take what I do every seriously," he continued, his eyes narrowing a bit over the matter.
"One injury is not the end of the world...you find away to work with it not just around it," he commented. He didn't looked over in her direction. His words heated and annoyed with what had come of their conversation. In a way the words were not being directed at her. It was hard to say exactly what they were directed at.
Dick stood up and looked over towards Babs. "Out of everyone, I never thought you'd think that way of me," Dick said, his gaze falling from her. His words spoken with more hurt than anger. He grabbed the crutches and place them underneath his arms again. Once again putting all his weight into his hands and started to edge away from the couch.
This conversation had only brought up part of what might have been weighting on Dick's mind. Since he had become Nightwing, he had been trying to prove how serious he was about his work. Knowing what he had been doing all this time. Yet, Bruce had always seemed to think it was all a game to Dick. Even the criminals seemed to be getting a laugh about the upgrade Batman's partner had done. Though they weren't after he'd taken them down. But of all people, he had never expected to hear Babs say something like that to him.
If she had been pushing to break his silence on anything and understand how he felt about things lately, she had done a good job at getting a glimpse of what hidden emotions Dick refused to ever reveal. She may have put a crack in the wall, but Dick's guard was set higher. Dick started to crutch away from the couch. He was planning on heading for the door. He needed to clear his head. He wasn't going to say a word more into the matter. It was going to far into deeper thoughts that Dick would never reveal. Going beyond his comfort zone. These were the glimpses that most did not get to see.
He stopped short. He didn't want to leave. He didn't know what Babs would think. All he feel like was trying to run. But what was he running from? What was holding him back?
He stopped and leaned up against the wall leaded to the door way. His head rested against the wall as he stared toward the ceiling. He couldn't do this. He couldn't walk out on Babs like this leaving on what he had said. What was he saying? He knew she loved and supported him. He was starting to confuse himself a bit at the moment. What was he doing? Sure he had become Nightwing. But who was Dick Grayson becoming? Or more of what? His secrets and troubles just seemed to be consuming him. And he wasn't about to let that happen.

[/i], Dick,"[/b] she reminded him, in the same thoughtful and calm tone. "I know you, I know you're not going to let a single injury stop you. I've never suggested such a thing - I never would. If I even suggested you stay away from patrolling you wouldn't listen to me," she added, walking towards him. "I'm asking you to act in the best interest of healing the injury, the sooner it heals, the sooner you get out properly. You're not stupid, Dick, and I refuse to treat you as such - but if you continue to, frankly, abuse that leg, you are looking at permanent, long-term damage," Babs explained, still in her controlled level of voice. Perhaps this was beyond anger for Babs, settling rather on a calm tone. "But if you treat me like I'm stupid - like I don't know something else is going on that you're not telling me - then I guess I've made a really, really grave error," Babs spoke, dropping the bandages onto the couch. "I have been nothing but supportive, nothing but caring all through this, Dick," she pointed out slowly. "You will never get anything less from me, but if you're going to push me out, then I might as well make it all the easier for you and just go now," she suggested.[/ul]

Dick was silent all the while she spoke and moved about the room. He wasn't going to start an argument. Everything Babs had said was true and he knew it. He knew if he didn't easy up he could cause damage, but there was so much going on that he felt he couldn't just take it easy. But this wasn't about just him. It was about Babs too. He couldn't just keep shutting her out like he did.
He just felt it was something he needed to handle himself. If others got involved things might become to complicated and become too much for everyone. If someone tried to help him they could easily cause a problem for Dick. And if Dick went about the wrong way trying to solve his problem he could cause problems for himself. But this was not only causing a problem for him, he was creating problems for others.
Things were just getting to him. The threat of his life, the tension between him and Bruce, his new life, and the injury just was topping it off. He had been running the words Babs had said in his head. And then when she had spoken about this being a really grave error, he turned his view to her. "Don't," Dick finally spoke up.
He didn't want her to leave. Babs was the only one he had left. She was the one keeping him tied down to reality. Helping him get through all this. "I don't want you to leave," he spoke softly. He turned his view a way for a moment as he shifted his weight onto the crutches again and away from the wall he had been leaning on.
"You're right about everything," Dick started to say as he was now on his crutches again. His blue eyes focused on her own fiery green eyes. "You have been supportive. And I know you're too smart to have not noticed what has been going on lately." He took a few steps toward where Babs was standing. "I've put you through more than you should have to deal with. I shouldn't be putting you through what I am," he said. "You don't deserve that. You deserve better."
He looked at her. He felt like he had hit a spot beyond anger with Babs. He didn't blame her one bit. "I'm sorry I haven't told you of some things going on. I regret that. And I regret putting you in between Bruce and my fight," Dick spoke up again. "I don't want to push you away. And I'm sorry it has turned into that. Everything has just been so..."
He stopped for a moment. "No, everything hasn't been...I've been difficult," he corrected himself. "I've been such an idiot. Honestly, I don't blame you if you doesn't forgive me and want to leave." He took another step toward her. "But know this...I don't want you to go,"
Dick looked at her. He meant every word. And for once he was not fighting back. He didn't want to lose her. But he couldn't keep her from leaving if that was what she wanted to do. He had told her how he had felt more or less. He knew she was committed to this. To their relationship and what had he been doing this whole time besides not telling her things that were going on. The only thing holding him back was himself.
He looked deep into her eyes. Those eyes that had seen him got through so much. And had been there the whole time. "I love you," he said and meant every word he said. "And I don't want you to go."

[/b] she announced. "And, despite my occasional better judgement, Grayson," she said slowly, a sad smile breaking across her face, "I love you too," she responded, her voice quivering. Babs' eyes flickered back to Dick and she smiled at him, still standing somewhat away from him. Dick had been treating her badly recently, but tensions had been running high due to his injury and they were both still adjusting to the fact Babs had moved in. Dick was probably the only person in the world capable of reducing Babs to her normal, eighteen year old self. [/ul]

Dick was silent and saw how he had hurt Babs. He couldn't stand the sight of hurting the one he loved over his stupidity and behavior. He kept his distance from her as she had seemed to start to move away. He felt it was best to give her her space. He saw how upset she was. He had almost reduced her to tears over his behavior.
For a second there when she had turned away from him, he thought she was going to turn her back on him. He really couldn't blame her. He had brought this upon himself. If Babs thought is was what was best, he wasn't going to force her to stay. But he wanted her to stay.
And when those words 'I'll stay' came out, he was caught off guard that was going to give him another chance. Even though he didn't deserve any more chances. He saw that beautiful sweet, but slight smile come to her face, and knew she hadn't wanted it to come to this either. That it had taken him this long to realize what he had when he almost lost it.
Everything about this to Dick was new. He had never had to face anything like this in his life. Opening up and letting someone in wasn't easy. And no one ever said it was going to be. But he had taken the chance to at least try and show that he was cable of doing so.
Dick saw that she was keeping her distance from him. He gave that space to her for a while longer. If she wanted time to think about all this, he'd give it to her. After a bit of silence after what she had said, Dick moved a bit closer to her. He was now about a foot away from her or so. He leaned all his weight on the left crutch and freed his right hand and took Babs' left hand in his right hand gently. He leaned in and kissed her tenderly. Hoping he wasn't stepping over the line if Babs had drawn one between them.
When he pulled away he looked into her eyes and then down at her hand that he held in his. "I'm going to stay in tonight," he said. "It's probably best I at least give it a rest for one night.' He looked back at Babs again. A clear signal that he was going to try and make things work. Before hand, Dick would have been stubborn to no end and go out on his planned patrol like usual that night. But for now, maybe he should try listening for once and take someone's advice.
