The ease of this operation is enough to cause Poison Ivy to break out into a smug grin as her head pops out of the water. Of course, the lack of security the way that she got in is only natural, since whoever is in charge of the security of this factory wouldn't need to worry about this short canal - not with the amount of toxic waste being dumped into it. Why, if it weren't for her immunity to nearly everything then she'd probably die in a few hours, or if she'd been careful not to swallow any of the water then perhaps a few days. And it doesn't take a scientist to know that being in it is probably not a good idea thanks to its unnatural reddish tint and unpleasant smell. But thanks to Dr. Woodrue that's something that she doesn't have to worry about - perhaps she'll thank him later for that later, when she's done being murderously angry at him.
But it's because of those who do have to worry about it that has brought her here. This canal connects directly to the river, completely unfiltered and untreated. Goodness knows it would take far less than that to enrage Poison Ivy, but allowing this toxic brew into a water source also happens to be extremely illegal so this is a situation where she doesn't just have the company to be angry with but also the corrupt officials who accept bribes to look the other way. A few of whom she happened to notice talking all chummy to the company's president at a certain party. Needless to say, once other things prompted her to decide to make a list, this place easily found the top of it.
Not wanting to linger here any longer than is necessary, thanks to the vague possibility of getting caught in the act, Ivy swims quietly over to the edge of the canal and scatters the contents of a small waterproof pouch along it, and then repeats the process for the other side. The small seeds she is sowing are for a plant she's quite proud of: a very fast-growing and hardy reed that's nearly impossible to eradicate and is specifically adapted to grow by and in toxic water. In fact, they can't grow where the water is clean, while in a place like this she expects them to choke the entire canal within a month. And if she did her job right, the easiest way to get rid of them will be to stop polluting the river - and keep it that way for at least a year. And if she's lucky the infestation will spread to any nearby factories that are also blatantly dumping their toxins into the river, though this particular factory is her specific target.
Mentally patting herself on the back for a job well done, the first of many she has planned, she turns to swim back underneath the security fence. And though she tries to keep an eye on her surroundings, now that she's delivered her seeds to the best possible place without being stopped she feels like all the hard part is over. Now she just needs to swim back to the river and then to the place she stashed her car and she's gotten away scot free.
