While the official Theme Song thread has been a very enjoyed thread for nearly three years, I don't think that anyone would argue that it has it's problems. While it worked great when only a few people had their embedded songs, at some point it just got so big and unwieldy that I know that people actually avoid using it since it takes so long for the page to load. This is hardly ideal.
Therefore I have decided that we need to retire the Theme Song thread.
Now, before anyone panics, let me quickly say that by doing so I'm not discouraging the sharing of songs, etc. about your characters. Far from it! It's just that a thread that is unpleasant to use is probably not the best way to be doing it, especially since there are options besides making one gigantic thread with them. Specifically, we have a Plot Tracker Board already in place, which is meant to give people a place to organize and share their character's doings, and there's no reason why you can't also use the same space to showcase the songs that you feel represent your characters.
Therefore, I'm requesting for all players who have posted in the Theme Songs thread to do the following:
Step 1 - If you don't have a Plot Tracker yet, then make one for your characters. Plot Trackers make it very easy for you to keep what your character has done organized and to share it with others. I've found mine to be especially helpful for those times when I want to show someone something my character did in an old thread and I don't want to go digging through the archives to find it - my Plot Tracker makes that easy since I know exactly where to find the link. Now that the theme song thread is being retired, if you really don't want to link your threads but do want to share theme songs I'll let you get away with posting a thread with nothing but theme songs, but I will be shaking my head at you - just so you know.
Step 2 - Go to your post in the Theme Song thread and use it to get the links to the videos you've shared - that way you don't have to go find them again.
Step 3 - Add the video links to your Plot Tracker. But do keep in mind that if you add a lot of embedded videos (so that they're displayed right on the page), that can be really hard on people's computers. I'm not saying don't do it, but it's best to limit the number of them. Using links instead, so that it sends people to the video on Youtube or whatever, is kinder if you have a lot you want to share. Pro Tip: You can get away with embedding a lot of videos if you put them in spoiler tags like this:
Just make sure that you only put a few videos inside of each spoiler tag and it works well - the site doesn't force the person's browser to load the video unless/until they tell it to by opening the spoiler.
Step 4 - When you're done making the transfer, please delete your post from the theme songs thread so that I know that you're done and I don't need to worry about poking you. If you've not done this before, notice how each post has a little gear symbol in the upper right corner, next to the 'Quote' and 'Edit' buttons. Click that thing to see an option to delete your post.
Once everyone has followed these steps, the theme song thread will be deleted. You can listen to the theme song for this here.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation!
