It had begun. The tests, the trial runs, the training. The seemingly endless tools with which Batman tested Force's mettle. At first, she had agreed, albeit reluctantly. After all, that was what the FBI had forced her to do: test, teach, train. No wonder she was hesitant. But perhaps spending her days alongside Alfred had softened and warmed her up to Bruce. After all, it was through Alfred with which she saw Batman's humanity. To the estate's most prominent caretaker, Bruce would always be the brilliant boy who chattered with him endlessly about all the things he wanted to do for the world. Even after the accident, Bruce never lost that idealism. It was just tainted, pockmarked by something dark and sinister and nefarious. But it was still Bruce...
Batman stood before her, a majestic figure in black armor. As he watched her lift one object after another, he drew his cape around him, eyes pensive, thoughts brooding. She had lifted the heaviest of all the weights without so much as breaking a sweat. Impressive. Still, she was still young. Inexperienced and naive regarding the world. That was why he had taken her in, That was why he had to protect her. As though it was acting purely on the vehemence behind his thoughts, his shadow rippled as it elongated, stretching out to shroud her in its winged embrace. It was in that way that he had safeguarded Gotham for over a decade. And that was exactly how he intended to protect her.
"Agility."
Without further warning, Batman flung one batarang after another towards her. Practice had made his aim impeccable. The sharpened edge would bite into the loose folds of her clothing, so that if she failed to stop them in time, they'd latch her onto the wall. But it was the celerity that was most impressive. The batarangs were a blur in the air, streaks of inky blackness as they sped towards her, blazing through the air with the grace of an impassioned ballerina, crashing through space with the fury of a bulldozer. Would she be able to stop them all in time? Would she literally react, her impetus boasted by the speed of thought?
We shall see.

In a way, when Batman asked to test her it put Phoebe right in the middle of familiar ground. Just how many times had she'd been tested or sometimes simply be called upon to show someone something she could do? Though a part of her had quietly hoped that it would get put behind her at some point - while she understands the purpose of training under someone who already understands her abilities, the initial evaluation of someone who doesn't is a tedious process. It seems to alternate between tediously easy tasks, horribly exhausting ones, or ones that are simply irritating.
Lifting weights, for example, is tedious. Not only can she lift the heaviest weight he has, she can lift it just as easily as the lightest. And the only thing that's hard about lifting all of them at the same time is the sheer number of objects that is, not the weight.
Always prone to read the thoughts of anyone around her, especially if they're talking to her, it's not the word that he says that first warns her what the next test is, it's his mental decision to do it. And the mental barrier she puts around herself is in place well before he can throw the first batarang.
And it's well after all of that before she responds physically, though it's only to calmly turn toward him, unflinching is spite of the impacts of the weapons against a shield mere inches away from her - she trusts her powers completely to protect her. The way that the batarangs deflect would reveal the shape of the barrier protecting her - it's a cylinder, fitting quite closely around her. There's no need to attempt the difficult task of blocking each batarang individually when she can simply protect her whole body at once.
And yes, she's quick, all right. "One of my trainers figured out how to teach me to protect myself with my powers as a reflex," she comments with a slight smile.

It wasn't that late into the night. By the time the sun started to set, Dick Grayson had made it into town. But now when he got the chance, he was Nightwing as the sun went down.
After paying a visit with Wulfen, well Victor...He knew that Batman had dropped in on him. But he had yet to learn where Batman had taken the child. Though he hadn't talk with Alfred about this much. But he had a bad feeling about this.
His motorcycle had taken him through the water fall entrance. It was the fastest wait from the roads he had been traveling. He had let the engine road for a while as he had entered from the distance. But then switched it to silence mode. It would not have been noticed from the entrance since the distance was quite some to travel. At a fast speed it was nothing.
Nightwing slowed his approach as he got closer to the over sized bat-mobile. He let the bike glide with no extra power to it. As he came long side the bat-mobile, he was some what hidden behind it from where he could hear voices.
He recognized Bruce's voice right a way. The word he had heard hundreds of times before during their time training. But the little female voice that followed a bit after....that sent alarms off. Bruce's couldn't have? Was he nuts?! Had he lost it? No wonder Alfred had be a little off lately when talking with him about how things were going.
And Dick was putting it all together. Couldn't Batman have taken that Force to someone like Superman to watch over. What was going on? What was the reason for keeping her hidden?
Nightwing removed the helmet and place it on the bike as he climbed off. He stayed to the shadows now. Annoyed by this little event going on. Maybe he was wrong. Perhaps he had only brought the child to the Batcave. He wasn't sure with seeing Bruce dressed as Batman.
Even then, Nightwing stood behind Batman some distance. Arms crossed and eyes narrowed at what was going on.
"You never said you had company staying with you," he said. His tone reflecting his annoyance over finding this out the way he had.
He was unaware of the child's full powers. So he wouldn't be able to tell if she knew who he was. Sure he was Nightwing, but it didn't mean all of Bruce's adopted sons were vigilantes...Even though they were. Even if he was still just his ward.
The agitation over this was definitely noticeable from his body language and tone. He was in more of a defensive mode right then. Wondering just how much the child knew about Batman. About them all.

Batman said nothing. There was no need to. Force would know that he was impressed, as well as disturbed. Not at the fact that she possessed metahuman powers. Not at the fact that she was, in essence, different than he was. Batman had no problems with abnormality. He was bothered that, if misused, her powers would be a menace to them all. To him, his comrades, and the whole of Gotham City. She was a little girl, intelligent, but naive. It was like handing a toddler a bazooka and expecting them to use it wisely. She was dangerous, just because of what she was.
On the few occasions Alfred had spoken to him regarding Force, he had offered nothing but praise. Usually, Alfred knew better than to meddle... But perhaps it was because Force was so young. A young girl thrust into a man's world. A monster's world. Perhaps in some way it had reminded him of Bruce, the boy who ceased to be a boy, since the tender age of eight. Alfred had insisted, in as gentle tones as possible, that Force wasn't dangerous. That if not for her very unique skill sets, she was just like any other girl her age, if not a little more mature. But it had failed to ease Bruce's doubts, and Batman was notorious for his paranoia...
That he heard Nightwing's voice... Yes, it was clearly Nightwing, not Dick. Not even bothering to acknowledge his former sidekick with a nod, Batman retrieved his fallen batarangs. They fell with a metallic ping, after having been deflected from the telepathic shield. He tucked the batarangs away in his belt, taking his sweet time. Batman didn't show the shock he felt at Nightwing's unexpected appearance. The boy had managed to conceal himself, even from the Batman. He was both proud, and irritated. No one snuck up on him, not even Dick. But if anyone ever did, he'd rather it be him than anybody else.
"You never asked."
He nearly spat the words at Dick. Yes, at Dick, not Nightwing. He wasn't going to let his protégé interrogate him like some criminal he had picked up off the streets. They were going to speak on his terms, and that meant it'd be strictly Dick versus Batman. Whirling around abruptly, he turned the full intensity of his glare on his former pupil.

Indeed, there's no need for Batman to comment on her abilities at all. She knows what he thinks without him having to verbalize them. Both the good and the bad - she knows that her training at the hands of the government was very carefully done. She's good, especially for her age. And she takes a certain pride in how well she can do.
But she's also aware that she's potentially dangerous - perhaps even more so than Batman. She's honestly somewhat disturbed and bothered by her abilities herself. Even as she pats herself on the back for being so good defending herself, she's also fully aware that not just the bad guys but the good guys would have a very hard time stopping her even if they needed to. But she can't help but be what she is - she was born this way. She didn't ask to have incredible metahuman powers.
But a part of her is actually somewhat pleased that Batman can see the potential bad side of the coin - she's afraid of that possibility herself. Though that's why she can seem somewhat obsessive about knowing the difference between what's right and what's wrong; she's a good girl and strives very hard to remain one. But the problem is that age and experience keeps handing her a more and more detailed picture of just how complicated 'right' and 'wrong' can be.
When she suddenly hears another voice, her attention shifts directly to its source, and she blinks in mild surprise. "Dick? You're Nightwing?" she asks curiously, recognizing the mind of the man that she met at Starfire's party but now clothed in a vigilante's costume rather than as Robin Hood. Well, isn't that a strange coincidence! But then again, it shouldn't be too big of a shock that the guy Starfire loves is another person who wears a costume.
Of course, she doesn't really know anything about the man known as Dick Grayson. After all, before she actually met him all Bruce Wayne was to her was 'some rich guy'. They may be big figures among Gotham's rich and famous, but she's ten and doesn't care about that.

"Well I'm asking now," Dick replied coldly.
He hated when Bruce seemed to have Alfred keep him out of the loop. And that was one thing that always ticked him off about Bruce. What ever he said goes. And when it comes to others, he shuts them out.
Dick was annoyed with all this. And the girl standing before them had just made it worse. But telling by how she blocked the batarangs....And he surprise to her tone over who he was. He could tell she had only figured it out then and there. She was some type of meta. And he could guess what type.
"So I take it you know who the Batman really is too," he said to the kid. His focus and anger still on Bruce. The question just out there because the kid did know and he knew it. Other wise she wouldn't be in the Bat-cave.
"Why don't we all just take off our masks and have a sit down," he said sarcastically.
He still stood there. Arms crossed as if he was still waiting for a logical answer to all this.
Finding this all out about this from Victor was part of his source. But not about her staying with Bruce.
He'd say why and how he had found out if he wanted. And he ignored Bruce's look. He'd interrogate him if he wanted. In giving away his identity he risked those around him. But the kid didn't need to put two and two together for that with her power. But just what else could she do?

Batman was thrown, momentarily, off guard at Force's sudden outburst. How did she know? How could she know? Unless... His eyes narrowed into ice blue slits. Still, there was no use getting angry. Force would have figured out eventually. All it took was a thought, a single flash upon a particular topic, and she'd know. With his surprise and irritation concealed behind a darkening scowl, Batman folded his arms across his chest. Perhaps Force would feel the tension in the air. The hostility and animosity that buzzed like electrical currents as they passed through copper wire. Not the kind between sworn enemies, nay, but the heated bickering that occurs within a family. With Dick standing across the room, draped in shadows, he looked like a mirror image of Batman. Arms folded, chin pushed out in defiance, eyes staring daggers. Batman would have been proud, if Dick hadn't utilized it on him.
"If you did your homework, Dick, you would know the futility in hiding something like this against her."
He scowled at his protégé, his voice a dangerous growl. Gesturing for them both to follow him, he lead down to the panels that displayed every segment of the manor, from roof to board. He glanced over them briefly, then turned back to them when he was sure there were no more unexpected visitors. The chair swiveled sharply, the plush making his figure sink an imperceptible inch, while the stately design made him seem majestic, a juror on the verge of passing judgment.
"Go on."
Batman knew Nightwing probably already had a speech rehearsed. So he waited, though his glare made it obvious that he was in no mood for nonsense. One misstep, and he'd tear his former sidekick to shreds.

Sensing all the negative emotions she accidentally stirred up, Phoebe quietly mutters, "It's not my fault..." But she does notice that she's not being blamed for it, so there's that at least. It's not really Dick's or Batman's fault either, though - it's the fault of whatever bit of fate or random chance gave her the ability to know these things so easily.
She goes quiet as the two of them exchange a few words, not knowing what to say. When Batman gestures for her to follow him, she hesitates for a moment before doing so. Heated bickering may be commonplace in some families, but she doesn't remember ever being in one and does not like the anger level in the room - not at all. She was always taught to avoid letting herself get that angry. Granted, that's because of how potentially dangerous her anger could be if she let it get the best of her, but she doesn't like the emotion.
So when Batman sits, she hangs back - not wanting to be a part of any angry arguing. She'd rather go elsewhere and let them have at it, but she tries so hard not to play the 'I'm doing what I want and you can't stop me' card. Because, while she could, that's not necessarily a nice card to play. A better idea is to simply look unhappy to be here until they're finished, she's excused, or they take pity on her and cool it.

Dick just glared back at Bruce. His mask hiding the intense glare he had throw the narrowed slits of the mask. He wasn't about to take it off, even if the kid knew who he was.
At this point his attention was on Batman before him. Almost ignoring the child. He didn't want her to take any blame. But how was he suppose to take that time to research every little thing Batman had been doing since he had gotten news over this.
He wasn't trying to seem harsh and aggressive with her there, but Bruce was really starting to annoy him at points. And lately with everything going on. He needed to be apart of this Bat-family more so.
Dick followed Bruce. Of course seeing the paranoid actions of checking over that the house was clear. He rolled his eyes as Bruce was looking away.
When the tall dark figure moved to the chair and sat, Dick still remained standing before him as Nightwing. Arms still crossed and eyes narrowed.
"So, Bruce....Batman....I found this out from an acquaintance of mine that you had taken a girl into your care. First thing I thought was maybe for reasons of safety like the wolf man said, but then I thought, gees he wouldn't do that unless there was something going down. So, I figured on getting some answers as to what is going on. And I find out that she actually was in the batcave. And most people who come into the cave know who the Batman is. What I wanted to know was, what's so worth giving away your identity to a....in a situation like this," Dick said rather calmly. His tone in check. Leaving out the word kid since that could be turned against him over how Batman had said who he was too him.
He showed neither sign of going after Bruce then and there. But his words spoken in a way that he wanted answers. Dick had his own problems to worry about and he wasn't sure of the kid in the room with them.
Dick hated it when Bruce could back him into a corner with just that same calmness and look he would give to him at times of arguments. It was like fighting someone who knew you better than you yourself.

"It's not your fault."
Bruce muttered with a graveled growl as he took a seat. There was no tenderness in his voice. No soft-hearted apology. Just a matter-of-fact statement, as though it was true as the sky was blue. He hadn't said it out of a desire to console the poor girl. The poor girl caught in the middle of this fight between mentor and protégé. It was Batman's voice and Batman's need to correct any injustice, even if it involved someone attempting to shoulder an onus they didn't deserve. It was his compulsion with fixing, with balancing the scales and making life fair.
"If you would have done your research, Dick, you would have known the extent of her abilities. She knew who you were by the time you walked in the room. Did you not think she'd find out, regardless of what we did, eventually? Do we let the fire grow, allow her to be manipulated by Gotham's villains or the FBI, before we step in?"
It was said calmly. This time, there was no anger in Bruce's voice. Just an eerie chill. He regarded his pupil with an open-eyed, thoughtful look, as though he could see through him. As though whatever Dick was doing right now hadn't surprised him in the least. It was the kind of look that made even the most hardened criminals cringe and shrink away, feeling suddenly embarrassed and naked and vulnerable. It was the look of a man that saw directly into the soul.
"That wasn't our motto, Dick."

Phoebe tries to be as patient as she can as she listens to Dick's complaint and Batman's response, though a very deep yet thoughtful frown crosses her face. She really doesn't want to be a burden on anyone, or a source of worry and fear. And while she can understand why people would feel that way about her, she definitely hates that. But what could she do to fix that, really? She can't help being the way she is.
Fortunately, she understands people well enough not to internalize the feelings too much. This isn't about her value as a human being, it's about the fact that she's a potential threat. And she is; she knows this. She can't help it, but that's how it is. Though Batman has a few good points too, but since she doesn't think that he gave the important one to her as much attention as it deserves, she quietly adds, "Dick, where would be a better place for me to be? I'm more dangerous to you guys out there than I am in here. Least if I'm here you can keep an eye on me. I do my best, but I'm just a kid and I can still be... fooled."
She sighs heavily to herself at that, but that's the truth of the matter. Here she feels... safe. Probably. Safer than she did at Victor's place, definitely. And she won't shy away from calling herself 'just a kid' - she is one! She's certain that she's more well aware of that fact than anyone else in the room. After all, she can sense their thoughts and knows that the way she thinks is... well, different from theirs. Less organized, more emotional, less... clear. Much better at sorting through all the complicated things that keep happening lately. And just because she's aware of it doesn't mean that she can simply copy what they do any more than she could get any taller by observing how tall they are.
Having said her piece, she folds her arms against herself and simply watches the two men, looking rather uncomfortable.

Dick stared down Bruce at that moment. Do his research? Dick had other problems on his hands in his city with having to deal with people. And he knew better to stay up to date over what was going on in Gotham. But time was escaping him lately. He found himself more and more drawn away from those around him and sinking into his work,
"Do my research? I acted on instinct to come here and find out for myself. I already found out where Wulfen was and got the information on you from him. At least the extent beside already finding out other things besides that," Dick replied.
Not saying out loud that he knew who Wulfen really was. That wasn't the point of the matter at the moment. Still he was side tracking Bruce's questions. But that only being because any logic answer would only prove to be in Bruce's favor over the matter.
"And I never said anything about a motto! I'm just pointing it out that it seems the whole secret identity thing is getting lacks at points lately," Dick tone getting sharp at first. But the last part starting to come out more as a mumble. "Forget it! Why do I even trying to figure out what your plans are? You're always planning one step ahead of everyone, even against your 'teams'," he continued.
Then he said in a lower tone and some what sarcastically. "Because you know what's best for everyone."
That look Bruce was giving him was irritating him and getting to him. He hated when he tried to best him at everything. Whether either of them was right or wrong, Dick wasn't going to stand there and just admit defeat. Maybe it was just his stubbornness. Or the fact that everyone in the Bat-family seemed to be keeping him out of the loop on this.
He has his own problems with Scarecrow, getting word of his antics in Bludhaven with the gangs. And trying to keep and eye on Jason as well. And he seemed to end up right where he always did, coming to Batman for answers to his question over what was going on. It ticked Dick off to no end.
He was just getting more and more frustrated standing there. His own questions and annoyance being turned back at him on everything. If his words had annoyed Bruce as well, he didn't care at that moment. He just wasn't taking the defeat.
Dick was more set off than usual. Normally he would go into a full out burst like this. Something might have been up though. Ok, well maybe that was a bit of a lie...he could sometimes get set off. And when it came to arguments in the family, it seemed he picked more against Bruce than against his brothers.
His arms had dropped to his sides turning these times. His anger just making his body tense up more so. He was just getting so annoyed at Bruce turning things against him and making him feel like a fool. But Dick knew he was right, but still to have to keep up with everything the Batman was doing was no easy task. He was about ready to turn and pound his fist into the stoney walls of the cave surrounding, But he had more control over himself than that.
But it was clear, at least it would be to Bruce, that Dick's mind and focus was not fully connecting with the matter at hand. He had pretty much came in there ready to attack. Something else had set him off earlier when he had been talking with Victor as well.
At the words of Phoebe, Dick's anger subsided for a moment. Listening to her. He couldn't attack someone he didn't know. At least, not how he went after Bruce like he had. Besides she was only a kid and didn't seem to really have much other choice than to do what others tell her for her own safety and good.
"That's the thing, it seems there is only one person making the choices around here and leaving out the possibilities for others to help. More or less blocking off that information," Dick said. The first part said some what calmly. And the second having a bit more snap to it towards Bruce and not her.
Yeah, his anger was coming for some where else. Annoyance that has built for some time. And the way Bruce was staring him down and treating him like a kid as well drove his fiery at that time as well.

Something was bothering Dick. Bruce could sense it. But he didn't care. Not with Dick taking it out on him, like a punching bag. But Dick knew better than that. He knew that Bruce wasn't going to just take it. That if he managed to, somehow, push Bruce over the edge, he'd come back with a vengeance. A full on verbal onslaught, or a look so penetrating that it'd make him feel like a complete and utter fool. Not that Dick didn't look like one now. His outburst, his anger, his annoyance. Bruce could see it written in wide swaths all over his face, so obvious that it'd take a blind man to not see it. And Bruce was anything but blind.
"Of course I do."
Batman's rumbling gravel crept into his voice. He seemed almost confused, even irritated, as he looked at Dick, as though he couldn't understand how his protege had failed to see something so simple. He was Batman. What else was there to say? He was Batman, the thinker, the planner, the genius. What he lacked in metahuman abilities, he made up for in analytical skills and smarts. Even Superman, who made it a point to always voice his concerns regarding Batman's methods, knew whose plan to follow when they needed one.
"I'm Batman. I have to know."
Perhaps Bruce was insensitive. Even inconsiderate. But he wasn't blind to the fact that something else was lurking underneath the surface. There was more to what was bothering Dick than the secret identities and Force. Bruce exchanged a glance with the young metahuman. Did she sense it, as well? Did she know what it was? Perhaps they would discuss it, at a later time. Turning his attention back to Dick, Bruce felt his anger still, then slowly dissipate. He had felt attacked, earlier. As though Dick was trying to back him into a corner. But he could tell Dick had calmed, and in turn, he did as well.
"I know you have your worries, in Bludhaven. There was no need to burden you when we have it taken care of."
An opening. The chance for Dick to explain what it was that was bothering him. Bruce peered into Dick's eyes, examined his body language, and waited. Either the bomb will explode and shrapnel will fly straight at his face, or it'll defuse, and Dick will take this as a chance to unload. We shall see.

The longer the Phoebe stands here listening to these two - their words are bad enough, but their thoughts on top of it... - the less comfortable and more frustrated she gets. Posturing, egos... she can see right through it all. The hidden insecurities in the back of their minds, the fronts that they're putting up for each other... Let alone the other troubling things that they're saying and thinking.
Of course, the hard question for her, is what should she do with all of this? One key bit of her training comes to mind: the gentlest response is probably the best one. She frowns a little at Dicks words, talking to him but also definitely meaning for Batman to listen to them as well, "You're wrong - there's not only one person making the choices. There's two. I just think that he's making good choices. If I didn't like them, he can't make me listen - I'm Force."
"I don't want a lot of people to know where I am. I don't like that you know. I'm just not throwing a tantrum about it," she adds, quite matter-of-factly, "A lot of people would want to try to 'help' me by telling me what they think I should do. But they always think about what a good weapon or tool I could be for them. Even the good guys. He's wondering if I can tell what's really bothering you right now." She gives Batman a slight frown, letting him know what she thinks of that idea. Shifting her attention back to Dick, she says, "Having more people 'help' right now would probably just make me more confused."
Having said that, she turns her full attention over to Batman as she says, "Yeah, I can tell. But I can also tell when someone's got a problem that they know is too big for them but they're not admitting it. And he's not doing that. So it's private until he decides that it isn't." Having said that, she gives Batman a particularly stubborn frown - she already knows that Dick is reluctant to argue with her, but she's not as sure about how hard her words will push Batman. Then again, she's Force - pushing is just what she does sometimes.

Dick watching the child and listens. He don't argue back with her. There was no point. And what she had said about Bruce wanting to know if she could read his mind, he figured he would think like that.
Bruce always got straight to the problem rather than the details. Then again it seemed the details were not as important. But things added up and caused all the problems.
What was on his mind was more than just his town and problems. But what Victor had said to him. Their conversation was on his mind. Something had rattled him and he kept that out of mind.
"I may have a lot on my plate, but that doesn't stop me. I try to keep taps here to. Just because I left this town and all does not mean I'm going to forget it," Dick said.
This was more towards Bruce and indirectly pretty much saying that Gotham was his home. And he wouldn't forget that.
"All I can say right now is that Victor said to say hello to his friend when I caught up with Batman," Dick said as he turned his attention to Phoebe.
But words that Victor had said to him were still in his mind. And right now, he really wished they weren't. He was hating that this kid could read his mind. Though it's not like he could stop her from doing so.
He could avoid the thoughts, but she probably had other ways to her powers. And he probably wouldn't even be able to tell when she was reading his mind.
