I've been toying with the idea of posting something like this for awhile now, and I figured that since we're in the thick of the holidays this would be an even better time to actually do it since some people are busy doing holiday stuff and those of us who are not are probably waiting for them to post and have nothing to do.
- Browse the thread tracker for open threads you might like to join, especially the ones in the 'Orphan Threads' category.
- In another forum? Check their advertising board for our ad and post it there if it isn't. Consider inviting your friends on other sites if you think they might be interested. (Be sure to do so politely!) Word of mouth is the best kind of advertising.
- Find a Face Claim for your character(s) if you don't already have one. If you do, see if you can find a better pic. Or at least check to make sure that the one you linked to still works.
- Look for mistakes in the thread tracker and PM them to me. Or write a better summary of the threads you're in than the one I wrote up.
- If it's been awhile, update your character's profile. Small updates like adding things that have happened to your character on the site, editing relationships, or switching out your RP sample for a post you've made here that you think is even better don't require any approval. If you make larger changes, like completely rewriting something, please PM me and ask me to look it over.
- If you've never done so, consider making a plot tracker for your character(s). (Check out mine for an example.) Kills a lot of time if you've been here awhile.
- Check the Roleplay Discussion board and the Player Notices boards for any threads made by you that you feel are outdated. Delete them if so.
- Make a new thread in the Roleplay Discussion board if you're still looking for more plots but your old thread has gotten stale. Be sure to delete the old one.
- Suggest an improvement to the site in this thread.
- Consider getting AIM if you don't have it - a lot of members on this site have it (I practically live there!) and chatting is a very good way to get rid of boredom. It also often results in getting more threads since it's so easy to communicate quickly that way. If you already have AIM or another messenger, link them into your profile if you're comfortable with that. And indicate what you have in this thread whether you're willing to make your screen name public or just to say that you have it and can be PMed for your screen name.
- Start a new open thread. The key to getting someone to join it is to make sure that as many people as possible wouldn't have a hard time coming up with a reason to be there. The best open threads start in public places at a normally busy time of day and have your character doing something that will attract some attention. Avoid starting open threads in abandoned places at odd times of the day doing something that won't attract any attention unless you've got someone already lined up to join you. Also avoid threads that would only attract a particular kind of character - better to start something that a hero, villain, or civilian could join in on rather than something only a hero would care about.
- If you have this problem frequently and are happy with the number of threads your current character(s) are in, consider getting another character.
- Find a theme song for your character(s) and add it to the theme song list.
- Show off your RL skills here.
- Make a new sig and avatar for your character(s).
- Read old posts in the Archives - there's some really good stuff in there. And some hilariously bad stuff too.
- Browse youtube for Batman related or other awesome vids and link them in this thread.
