It was a nice enough day, there was still a chill in the air from the rain last night, and the sun was just dimly peeking through some smog. Nora paused her striding towards the entrance of Robinson park. Sitting, slouched and tilted sadly to the left, was a dolly. It was plunked on one of the stone posts that surrounded this area of the park. From the dirty look of the poor thing, it had been out here in last night's rain storm. It was bedraggled, stained, filthy and looked about the saddest thing Nora had seen. She nudged it upward with her finger, and its eyes seemed to beg her not to leave it sitting on that post for another miserable night.
Glancing around, Nora scanned the streets, this dolly looked as if it had been set here on accident perhaps. Maybe some little girl had set it down and neglected to grab it as she left. It looked well loved, if not cleanly.
Picking it up, gingerly, she squeezed some water from the clothing, and the poor thing wheezed sickly as the water dribbled from it. Nora had the feeling with some soap and a hair bow, this doll might be cleaned up. She knew that Kieshea at the Women's Home was always looking for something to entertain her daughter Tabby... this thing looked pretty sturdy, it should be able to stand up to Tabby's "love".
Holding it rather awkwardly, Nora continued into the park, glancing over her shoulder, just to be sure there was no child weeping or something. She didn't notice anything out of the ordinary and continued her walk.
