She sighed when Selina doubted her optimism. Lisa doubted her optimism on more than one occasion. It was the nature of her work that was dark that made the optimism less and less. Though she had plenty of it, just not showing it in this case. Her optimism was low on this discussion, she had fears and didn't want to be in a relationship that was... "fake".
"You don't think I'm good enough for him do you." She said in her prosecutor voice. Selina's key atributes were easily identified especially after they're long friendship. Why did Selina show these things or false hopes to Lisa. She didn't care who this pam person was, so much as she doesn't toy with her. Lisa is a fighter, born and graduated from Law school as one.
She looked down somewhat in anger at Selina for even thinking of something like that. After ten years, there fight still resumed. When they did fight, you didn't want to be in the room. Voices yelling and pointing out things about each other. The last time they had a large fight was Lisa's apartment. It pushed them away from each other. Selina stopped talking to Lisa.

"Lisa, I'm not saying that. But if all you are looking for is money, go for it. But where there is money in Gotham, there are the games, the facades, the emptiness. If anything, you need a man who appreciates a woman who works hard, and doesn't take anything for granted." Selina cleared her throat, keeping her voice steady.
"I've known you for years. And if I had any say, I'd say you are not even in the same category. You've got the pretty face, but you also have the brains. And from what I have dealt with Bruce Wayne...he isn't into the brains part of a woman." Sighing, she dropped her head into one hand for a few seconds. Lisa deserved the truth.
"A lot of women like to angle for him. He's the shining jewel in Gotham's tarnished crown. Just... be careful with him. He's broken too many hearts, and as bad as that is, the follow-up in the gossip rags is even worse."

Selina was right, but Lisa needed someone, she wasn't in it for money or for fame she was in it for love. Now whether that was the dealbreaker or not, Lisa was going to try. " Selina, I have to try at least. If Wayne is the person the papers showcase him as, then I won't go after him. But If I give up without even making that judgement, then it won't be worth it and I'll find someone else." Her life wasn't filled with men, it was filled with constant annoyance and FBI agents who were pricks. An escape from that life was badly wanted not only for Lisa but by the people who have been indebted with the same pain from past relationships.
Lisa was ready to leave the coffee shop, but she wanted to talk to Selina still before her meeting. The constant yelling by the couples in the cafe was driving her crazy. She glanced at the watch. It was getting later and more time was being sent in a hot coffee shop. "Why don't we go to my apartment, we can talk and then you can get a cab or I can drop you off wherever you need to go." Lisa stood up and thew away the plastic cup with the moist temperature leaving a fingerprint invisible to the naked eye on it. "I'll be outside" Lisa walked out the glass door, and waited outside. She noticed that her car was parked right by the Coffee place. Why not just wait inside the car. She walked over trying to find the keys in her pocketbook was like trying to find a watch in a garbage dump. The jiingling of the keys got her somewhat pissed. Damn these pocketbooks. You organize them and then they unorganize themselves.
Some people walked by, others laughed at her, as she shook her pocketbok. Finally the keys appeared in a pocket. She was glad but the heat was on, "Someone left the door to hell open." As soon as she unlocked the car and opened the door, the humidity within flushed in her face. Opening the doors for thirty seconds would cool down the car. Now getting into the car she shut the door, turning on the engine and the air conditioning. She waited for Selina. It was the Blue Hyundai Elantra, easily noticeable; sending the text right away.

Selina nodded, standing as her friend offered up a new venue. "Now that is the spunk I remember. You always had an idea, a way to make something work that wasn't always shiny. Give it a chance. It can't hurt to get your face to your name, considering it's been in all the papers with the FBI coverage."
As Lisa gave her an abrupt direction of where her car was, Selina took her time. It was always good to give a bit of space when someone got their feathers ruffled. Well, on second thought, sometimes it was better to close the gap, and quickly. Especially on the rooftops. In leather. With those eyes. Sighing, Selina shook the thought from her head as she made her way outside to look for Lisa, offering a wave and slipping into the seat beside the blond.
"I stopped looking my senior year in Paris. Met someone. It didn't work out in the end...but from my experience, when the time is right, it happens. Utterly cliche, but it happens, Lisa. You never know if he's just putting on a front, or not to be honest. If my business was splashed in the papers everyday, hell, I'd probably give them a bit to run with, too, just to be able to do what I wanted."

Lisa put on her seatbelt and put the key into ignition, a rumbling from the engine meant that it was ready to drive. Lisa carefully got out of the parking spot and drove down. They went at a good speed, Lisa was a good driver so she was able to drive carefully while driving fast. "Men are usually afraid of me because I'm tough on them, I have to work on that Selina. I want to meet this Pam, she sounds like a gal I would want in my notebook to call or something."
Lisa knew that talking was a distraction but she couldn't help it, she was talkative around Selina. The cars were driving fast, and if she was a cop she would have given everyone tickets but she wasn't. Stepping on the gas when the light turned green, the car made it's way down the apartment complex, which was old yet affordable.
She parked the car and got out of the car, taking her bag with the keys, this time putting them in her pocket not her pocketbook. She didn't say much, but she walked infront of Selina. Her room was the third floor, seventeenth door. She walked all the way down, noticing the painters hadn't repainted and the smell of coroded metal inflamed her nostrils. Occasional fighting, and drunken rage where all too common here.
The other day she had to help a woman who was getting beaten by her drunken boyfriend. Stopping at her door was a happy sigh, She badly wanted to get a coke and lay on that coach that she bought. Her cat would probably be sleeping on that or her bed. Cats loved Lisa, she had some sparkle that attracted them to her, and it wasn't the hair as you would think. She found the keys and stuck them though her door, turning them but the door wouldn't open.
She pushed harder and harder then the door opened. "Welcome to Novak Island" She closed the door after Selina and went to the refrigerator grabbing two cokes which were cold. She handed one to Selina. Then taking off her jacket with her soft hands, and making herself some pasta and bread. She turned on the heat, but it took a minute until it actually turned on. "Don't you like the place" said a sarcastic blonde.
She saw that her cat Alice was on the couch, sleeping of course. She walked over and touched her, the cat waking up with a soft meow. Then purring as Lisa pet Alice. "Selina, as you can tell I haven't unpacked all my stuff" eyeing the boxes filled with pictures, "Because I'm going to be moving out of here, and into a suite at Gotham Towers. Once of course that I get a raise from the DA." She smiled and the cat continued purring, leaving her spot to say welcome to the cat whisperer, Selina. It purred and nundged her head on Selina's hip. "She likes you, then again all cats like you"

It was a quick trip to one of the...rather mediocre apartment complexes, it seemed. Selina tried not to say anything until Lisa did. "Are you planning on permanently relocating to Gotham, or just temporarily with the embargo here?" She asked gently, taking the cold coke and going to sit, the cat purring, a faint meow to welcome her owner, and her guest home.
Laughing lightly she nodded. "My Jasper is home, sleeping for now. I knew cats were nocturnal, but this one..man. He barely moves during the day." As she usually didn't, either. Thankfully she had a plethora of excuses to use for why she was so dead during the day if she needed to pull on them.
Taking a sip of her coke, she leaned back, crossing one knee over the other. "Pam is something else. A woman raised with money, who has fantastic taste in-well, everything. She's particular, but great company. Gorgeous, too. I think I mentioned she was a botanist, as well as a perfumer. Vegan." Selina took another sip of coke as she tried to think of anything else.
"You just really have to meet her. She's something else in person. Oh! Have you thought of what to wear to the benefit?"

Lisa leaned in as Alice jumped off the couch and went to her bowl where she ate her food. Always jumping with grace and love for sure. She sipped the coke, and continued listening to the fascisnation with this Pam. "That well recommended, huh? Invite her to the ball then, Wayne has an open door invitation, I'm open to her coming, so long as we can get to know each other."
Another sip of the soft drink, reminded Lisa that she had to tell Selina what she was wearing, then she asked, putting the can down, she spoke with emotion and pose " Glad you asked! I'm wearing a beautiful blue dress, I brought it over from New York, had some people fix it up and add some glitter to it. It's a deep blue, with sparks of glitter and very soft. What are you wearing?" Lisa wanted to surprise Selina with the dress, she also had good taste, even for a lawyer. Forget professional skirt, she wanted to wear whatever was appropriate.
"Of course, I'll have to straighten my hair a bit maybe take a shower before hand. Put in a little make up, not anything special but something that will make people notice me if they haven't now."

Selina took another drag off her coke. The glass bottles were a nice touch, something she hadn't indulged in for a while. "Pam is already invited. She's pretty active on the social scene already. Just...don't wear green. That is one of her 'signature colors.' And yes, there is an open door policy, but there are circles that do get invites." She added, listening to Lisa's gameplan for the night, and giving her an approving nod.
"I know of this great little place where we can get our nails done, if you can find time to squeeze in with that. I may not arrive at the same time, but now I know your dress color, and your hair color if you don't decide to change it, I'll be able to find you." She half teased, a wink going to her friend.
"I have a purple frock I might throw on. Maybe put my hair up, you know."

Lisa listened in and out. Though she was more relaxed than in the coffee shop. She sipped more of the coke. She wasn't a huge caffeine drinker but if the bottle's were in her refrigerator, she was drinking them. "Sounds good, Yeah I can make plans, as long as it doesn't fall in line with my trial." She shook her head, then got up from the couch and checked her calender. "I have a meeting with some detectives and the medical examiner, but after 12:00 I'm free for the day." She looked at her nails, realizing that she did indeed needed to get them polished so that they would look good.

"Well, we could do it later that afternoon, before the benefit. I have a few clients and walk-throughs to get out of the way as well." More like she was going to need to catch a few hours of sleep, even if she wasn't going to go out at night. She had phone calls to make. At the mention of a trial, Selina perked up.
"You're going to trial already? Damn, you are good, Lisa!" She exclaimed, focusing on her friend. Results were big in cases like this, even she knew that. "Are you going after more of the criminals after you get the few you've locked up....um...finished with?" Faltering at the vernacular, Selina offered her friend a wane smile.

Lisa put something away in the cabinets, and listened to Selina assure her that they would be able to get their nails done. Then looked back when she was surprised that Lisa was already at trials and putting away people. "Someon's got to go to trial. The DA office uses me because I prosecute the living hell out of those people. I feel so bad for the victims, I do the job for justice and for the victims. Though they will never heal even with some closure."
She sat back down, "I'm always going after people, the bulk of my cases are sexual crimes, the other half homicides. I'm taking some time off, I need to rest my mind. I can't be looking at files, reading law books, filing reports, and meeting with Gordon and the DA every week. A girl has to have free time, you of all people know that."

Selina nodded, very aware of what it meant. "At least someone is getting justice for those sorts of crimes." She added quietly, almost too quietly. Even though she was usually bubbly, chatty, and all that, Selina had not come from the best of childhoods. Sex-crimes, violence, Selina knew them all firsthand. The East-end had been her playground at one point. She had been a victim, until she had realized what she could do[/do], and things had changed for the better there on out.
Now she was a respectable businesswoman. Dedicated to her clients, and preventing their valuables from going missing. By night, she was opposite, taking what caught her fancy, and flirting with a man who walked the other side of the fence, yet never fully denied her.
Another swig of Coke, and Selina looked at the bottle with interest. "This in a glass really is amazing, you know that?"

"Yes, though I usually drink more coffee" She smiled then continued watching Selina. Hopefully her phone wouldn't ring she didn't want to go to work right now or tonight for that matter. Selina seemed so collected, but she was sure that wild side was still in her, like a dragon dormant from sleep. The cases were getting darker, and Lisa was getting tougher on her policies.
"So your company is doing well huh? I'm sure you've gotten tons of business from all of Gotham because of the crime here. People want their homes to be protected." Lisa was unsure of if she should install a security system in her apartment.
