Finally! After hours and days upon days of training for who knew for how long, it was time to hit the streets and actually do something for once! Jason couldn’t wait, after Bruce had taken him in and the Batman had been working with him, Jason was excited to finally be able to be on the streets and fighting. His training had been hard, sometimes pushing him to his limits, but Jason never gave in. He wanted to prove to Bruce that he wouldn’t regret this decision.
This Robin was going to be the new and improved! He was going to turn this town upside down and take on anything he could. And in Jason’s mind, there were no limits. A crook was a crook, they were all slum and didn’t deserve the chance to take people’s lives. After what happened in his life, Jason felt he was not given the chance to teach others a lesson. There was a difference between survive and just plain stilling. Just like there was a difference between getting away with murder and getting caught. And Jason felt it was his job to give them pay back for their crimes.
And now was finally his chance! There on the rooftops, he was no longer Jason Todd, he was Robin. Jason had been training down in the Batcave while Bruce sat at the computers with his Bat suit on, with the cowl off. It was during this time that Bruce had told him to get suited up. And at that moment, Jason had stopped what he was doing, running off and putting on the new Robin suit special designed for him, Jason wasn’t sure what exactly Bruce had in mind for what they were going to be facing and he was too excited to even stop and think about it logically in terms of it being his first time out as Robin along side of the Batman.
Jason mind raced, maybe it was the Riddler guy or even maybe some dangerous secret mission. Jason didn’t care at the moment, it was time for action and to kick some butt.
He had kept up with Batman all night, and so far they had been sitting around and observing the streets around them. Jason tried to be patient, but he wanted to see some action. Knock someone out or take someone down that had a gun, or something. He just wondered what Batman seemed to be waiting around for.
”So, what do we face tonight? Killer Croc? Bane? The Scarecrow,” Jason asked as he sat perked on the ledge of the roof. He looked over at Batman, his face hidden with an eye mask and the red of the costume standing out against the night around them. His cape falling over his left shoulder, he was alert to what was going on around them. Though his mind was more excited by the fact that he was finally being allowed to face some crooks in Gotham.
Meanwhile, a few buildings over, there was a group of about six or so men that had pulled up with a delivery truck outside the local Museum of Natural History. The mean dressed like guards as they worked through the code on the back door of the building. They were after something big that night. A rare jewel worth millions that was one display for this week only. It had been shipped in from Africa and the plan was going along nicely as they had been able to hack the system and get the code without setting off any alarms. Two men stood outside the truck, while one stayed in the driver seat. The other three men went into the building, heading for the show room where the jewel was displayed.

The training had gone well and the boy was ready to don the mask and take up the role of Robin... the second Robin. Batman had told the boy his identity and told him everything he needed to know. After some more training it was time for the test. Now they were both on the rooftops of Gotham City, overlooking what seemed to be an ordinary empty car park which belonged to the Gotham Museum of National History. In truth, the car park was going to be a meeting point for something and, more importantly, Robin's chance to prove himself.
”So, what do we face tonight?" Robin asked, "Killer Croc? Bane? The Scarecrow,”
Batman grinned at the boy's enthusiasm. It was natural that he wanted to tackle some of the big villains, but Batman had something else in mind.
"Neither," he answered, "you won't be ready to face any big timers for a long time. For now, you're going to focus on the small time thugs."
Batman turned to Robin and looked at him, now deadly serious as if what he was going to say was the difference between life and death. In a way, it actually was.
"Listen to me closely, if you're going to work with me then you have to obey my rules. Rule 1: Do as I say without question. Rule 2: Do not go out of my site. Rule 3: If I tell you to abandon the fight, you do it."
As he was speaking, Batman noticed a truck pulling into the car park. Six goons got out of the truck and entered into the museum. They had managed to hack the security with little to no problems and were going after the big prize, a rare jewel that was worth millions on the black market.
"These are small time thugs," Batman said to Robin, "They are armed with automatics but shouldn't cause any problems if we take them out with stealth. We enter from the roof as quiet as we can. They've managed to disable the alarms but what they don't know is that I have control of the lighting systems so they'll be blind."
After explaining everything, Batman got out his line gun and pressed the trigger. Two lines of cable fired in opposite directions, creating a zipline for both he and Robin to slide on so they could get to the opposite roof.
"Ready?" he asked his protege.

Jason's hopes on taking down something bigger were faded as Batman answered his question. What did he mean by a long time? Jason was a bit annoyed with the face that he had said that. He felt he was ready to just go out there and fight. "The grunt work," Jason replied, his shoulders falling a bit at the disappointment of not facing something with more challenge to it in his mind.
Though at least he was allowed out to do something for the time being. He'd just have to prove to Batman he could handle it. When Batman turned to him he looked him in the eyes as he spoke. His tone more deadly serious as he spoke and said the rules that he expected Jason to follow. And of course, right now, Jason was going to follow them the best he could that night. He want to prove to Bruce that Jason could do this.
He had learned all about the last Robin. And even though Bruce had filled him in up to the point that Dick hard retired the mantle of Robin, Jason was able to pick up that Bruce seemed a bit touchy on that subject being brought up. He wasn't exactly sure what had happened, but it was enough to make Jason want to prove to Bruce that the new Robin was surely an improvement over the last.
"Got it," he replied equally as serious as Batman. He listened to the Batman once again as he explained about the thugs before them. Jason looked down toward where the truck was parked. He nodded in response that he understood.
He stood up from the ledge as Batman pulled out the line gun. He watched as it was fired off and saw the zip line it created. A confident smirk came to his face at Batman's next question. "Ready," he said as he pulled out an attachment for the zip line and hooked it on.
As soon as it was hooked, Jason pulled off the ledge and held onto the attachment it slide down the line. It was only a matter of seconds before he reached the other side. That was the fun part about this vigilante stuff it was the equipment they got to use. Jason pressed a button to detach the attachment to the zip line and let him self fly off the line tot he roof top and break his landing with a tumble that brought him right to his feet again. He stayed low and waited for Batman's next move of action.

The two of them dropped silently onto the rooftop of the museum. Robin stayed low and looked at Batman as if waiting for his next orders. A smart move. Batman went over to the fuse box with something in his hands. It was a pair of lock picks that he had pulled from his gloves. The picks seemed to barely touch the inside of the lock before Batman had the door open and the fuse controls laid bare to him. Throwing the master switch, Batman smiled as he heard on of the goons say: "Hey, who turned out the lights?" The whole museum had been bathed in darkness, not a single light in the entire building shone. Without a moment wasted, Batman went over to the glass rooftop that overlooked the main floor of the museum, and opened one of the windows very carefully. He motioned his protégé to come closer and indicated that this was how they were going to go in. Batman took a rope from his utility belt and hooked it to one of the rafters upon the roof. Then he silently dropped in and slid down the rope and onto the floor. Turning on his night vision, Batman saw that the three of them were armed but were also fumbling in the darkness. This would be easy.

Jason kept back as he watch Batman work. There was no need for him to get in his way. Batman would let him know when Robin was needed. As soon as Batman flipped the switch, he could hear a voice of one of the thugs about the lights being out. Go figure, these guys sounded like idiots. Even Jason knew to keep his mouth shut when he used to steal from a place. That was the number one key to being unseen was being unheard. Boy, and if these guys had a guard in the building, they wouldn't have much time to do much of anything now.
Robin saw Batman make a move for the main windows over looking the museum. He stayed back as he watched Batman open it up. And as soon as he saw the signal, Robin run over to him, moving quickly and quietly. Standing near the now opened window, he waited as Batman got a rope out and rigged a line up for them to enter the building.
As soon as Batman entered the building and slid down the rope. Robin followed suit. He turned on his night vision as well as he slid down the rope so he could see where to land. Before getting to the end of the line, he jumped off and landed a few feet away from Batman. He had learned, the number one rule to not land in front of or behind the person you were working with. That would leave you as a target if someone started to fire. You would end up setting up a target for them if someone didn't move out of the way quick enough. Jason hadn't gone through all that training for nothing.
He landed, not making a single sound as he stood up and looked around. He could see three men with guns. So it was three to two. Easy, Robin had a smirk on his face. These guys wouldn't know what hit them. The darkness gave them a huge advantage as the men had no idea what was going on.
The men had no idea they were there. Robin glanced at Batman. This was his chance to take them down. And he was going to take them down with a surprise attack. He pulled out two batarangs from his utility belt. He wasn't going to waste any time.
Robin knew what to do first, take down the guns and go for the thugs. Standing to Batman's right, Robin had a batarang in each hand and readied himself. Robin threw both batarangs at the same time with precision at two of them men as he dodged off to the left and charge at the next man, who was blind sided to Robin coming. He had calculated to go at the man with the gun not facing toward them. He was more than half way at his target when he heard the clank of the batarangs meeting the metal of the guns. The men yelling out in surprise as the guns were knocked out of their hands.
The man he had been charging at turned to see what was going on and before he got the chance to reaction, Robin jumped up and delivered a spinning kick to the guys face, knocking the man tot he floor and the gun out of his hands. Robin grabbed the gun, hearing someone coming toward him. One of the other thugs, he swung the gun at the man that was only trying to see what had happened to the other man. The gun made contact with the man's shoulder, knocking the man off balance as Robin delivered a swift upward punch to the man's jaw.
Jason wasn't wasting any time trying to take these guys down. As Robin, he didn't hold back as he attacked them. Though they couldn't see him, they knew something was going on. But he was going to take the advantage he had come in with. The third man seemed to stay back, afraid to come close as he heard the noise of his team mates being taken down by something in the darkness.
The other man Robin had taken out first started to get up. Robin dropped the gun and grabbed the guy he had just given a punch, by the shirt and spun him off to the side. He didn't let got until the man went tumbling into the other thug. Both the men falling over. Jason was so wrapped up in taking down these two first, he wasn't even sure if Batman had gone after the other man. The other man was still in the room though.
