Carter placed the last of the paperwork in the out box, ready for mailroom pick up. Simple administration work while Mayor Hill had his weekly chat with some of Gotham’s questionable. Of course, Carter looked the other way assuming whatever Hill was discussing it was important for the city, and even if it wasn’t Carter only had this job to hopefully set himself for a higher position in politics. Jane, however, kept a keen ear towards the door. Carter had become dull to her. His life felt more like a stepping stone then the treasure at the end. It lacked anything of true worth, except for the slight ambition, but Jane had felt much more intense ambition in her many lives. She had lived as powerful people who have done more then the average person and still for some reason wanted more. The craving of wanting more was always something Jane could relate to, but unlike those fools, Jane sought it out.
Her sights now set on the Mayor. He possessed power to manipulate both the GCPD and the mafia while still getting a large paycheck. Jane wanted it. She wanted to be Hill. She wanted to live largely and eat fully. She also wanted to get her record erased from the GCPD, and while she’s in the Police Department she can order a hunt. A bird hunt…rodent hunt…Robin Hood hunt… She could ban all heroes from the city and make the punishment death. Though she would prefer her knife cutting into their skin instead of some lethal injection, she would accept it. She imagined her knife cutting through the neck then gently sliding it upwards. It would shave off as easily as skin of a banana. The image made Jane smirk and focus back on the screen in front of her.
Carter moved the mouse on his screen to open up the employee files. He typed in the secret password, and Jane eyes took in all it revealed: Birthdays, Family Member, Emails. It lead to facebook that offered even more information. Facebook was a useful tool. She could easily glimpse and browse through people lives. Each click on a new profile, she felt herself becoming another person. Carter would be replaced by Amanda who would be replaced by Jordon who would be replaced by Nicky until eventually coming back on Carter. Carter, the young mayor assistant.
Carter heard the door open and talking stop. He looked at the door and watched as the two mobsters said their farewell.
“I’m heading home,” Mayor Hill stated, “I’ll see you tomorrow, Carter. Good job as always.” The Mayor said as he locked the door to his office. Jane knew he wasn’t heading home. He was heading to the Cheetah Strip Club down in the East Side of Gotham as he did every night. Jane was Hill. Jane understood what Hill would do because she was him, or he was him.
“Goodnight,” Carter answered with a small smile and watched the man go. When he was out of sight, Carter turned off his computer. He began whistling a fun tune as he did most evenings as he reached down and grabbed his own briefcase. He laid the briefcase on top of the desk and opened it with a click. Still whistling, he took in the many knives of all shapes and sizes. He snapped the briefcase close, knowing the security camera saw nothing and started on his way. Jane would be Hill tonight, she would, and once she rid this city of heroes, particularly Batman. She would be Bane.
She followed two blocks behind Mayor Hill. Carter followed two blocks behind Mayor Hill until the Mayor walked into the mafia strip club. Jane decided the front door would not be the best option and headed to the back, but she paused for a moment. For the past week it felt as if someone was following her, following Carter. She didn’t glance or look. She only stood still, listening to the area around her trying to pin point it. It wasn’t a hero. Except for Batman, the majority of heroes were loud, and even if were Batman, Batman would have made his appearance know by now. No, this person was after Mayor Hill. She smirked. She always enjoyed meeting someone new.
She continued moving seeing the one guard in the back. She partially opened up her briefcase, grabbing grip of one of the knives.
“Hey, entrance in the front,” the guard yelled. His last words as Jane causally ran the knife across the man’s throat before he could even reach his gun. The guard gurgled and fell to the ground. It was Jane’s warning to whoever was watching. Mayor Hill would be hers and if anyone got in the way they would have the same fate.
Carter opened the door. Stepping over the body, he walked into the dark music filled strip club and headed to the booth he knew Mayor Hill would be at.
