Perry and Lois were arguing again. It was always a scary sight, and most of the other reporters at the Daily Planet usually cowered from the clashing fury.
Clark knew he should try to calm them down, but he'd learned by now that getting in the middle of such a heated argument between the two. It was a wonder Perry hadn't fired Lois for just being obnoxious, but Clark knew that Perry liked her. They were both old softies hiding behind their rough exterior, and Clark was one of the few people who knew it.
He sighed, pushing his glasses further up on his nose as Jimmy walked up next to him.
"They at it again, CK?" he asked, offering the reporter a mug of coffee.
"They should cool down in a bit," Clark replied, reaching up to take the mug. Just as he lifted it up, his superhearing kicked in. Someone was calling for help. "I just remembered I have to--uh--get some donuts. Lois threatened to kill me if I didn't get her donuts," he said, hoping his hollering fiancé would pick up on the story if Jimmy mentioned it. Jimmy looked a little surprised as Clark leaped up and dashed toward the elevator, loosening his tie. Once out of sight, he ducked into the hall and ripped open his shirt, speedily changing from Clark to Superman, and shooting off into the sky through a window.
The ground fell out below him and he flew across the sky, eyes scanning below for the source of trouble.
