It’s something she had done many times before. Summer waited for the most opportune moment to break from the crowd of press that lingered outside the Police Department, hungry for a statement from anyone to evacuate the doors. Apparently there had been a murder in one of the nicer hotels, witnessed by who else but heiress Piper Hill with the forever label of ‘Mayor’s daughter’ practically branded across her flawless backside. Little had been mentioned at all in regards to the event, but Summer was prepared to get to the bottom of things in the way she knew best. As she slipped cautiously through a rusty hole the high-wire fenced gate, her petite frame allowed her to barely slip through it.
With a bit of difficulty forcing her hips through the small opening, Summer finally managed to shimmy through it without damaging her designer clothes. With that, she took a few moments to smooth her skirts and fix her hair, a mischievous smirk playing on her lips. She half-expected to see Harvey in the back smoking, but he was nowhere to be spotted, bringing a frown to her lips. Summer was hoping he might be able to fill her in on some of the missing details with the promise that she might leave him alone. Instead, she allowed herself in through the back door and found herself walking into a mountain of chaos inside.
Pressing her back to the wall, she tried to stay out of the view of those who hurried past her though most seemed far too busy to even notice she was out of place. The building was arranged so differently from the last time she had entered, though after being partially destroyed by the Joker they were forced to remodel. Where Harvey’s office had been formerly now contained a broom closet and most of the other doors in the dimly-lit hallway were locked, bringing a look of frustration to her pretty face.
It wasn’t until she had a bit of luck that the gleam returned to her wide eyes and she pushed it open, starting instantly toward the desk. The familiar sight of vanilla envelopes littered its surface, bringing a mischievous smirk to her lips. “Jackpot.” She said to herself as she leaned over the desk, skimming through each of them.

John had finished questioning Piper Hill just a mere hour before, and so it was time for a snack break. It was bad enough that Bivins had been on him like a cat on a ball of yarn, but he also had to deal with Ms. Hill and her...difficulty with intellectual conversation, for lack of a more respectful phrase.
But as the detective from Mars popped a gummy bear into his mouth outside of the police station, that old intuition - or perhaps it was just plain paranoia - kicked in. A glance outside of his peripheral allowed John to catch just the briefest glimpse of a bare leg moving through the fencing that was supposed to be protecting the station. Another gummy bear, this one his favorite kind (green, of course), was placed between his lips before he headed off to investigate the intruder.
But first, he made sure to weld that damn hole in the fence shut with his Martian Vision.
---
As the flame-haired reporter rummaged through the manilla envelopes, she'd be completely oblivious to the fact that she was not alone. John made sure to employ a bit of his own flight ability to hover mere centimeters above the ground, masking the sound of any footsteps, up until he was quite literally right behind the unexpected visitor.
Okay, so he had to admit that a part of him enjoyed being able to sneak up on people. It was virtually impossible to do on Mars, what with everybody being telepathic, but humans...he got a cheap thrill out of being even better than Bruce at the "ninja thing," as Wally would say.
"Can I help you with something?" The sudden voice right in her ear, not to mention the imposing figure of 6'2" behind her, would be enough to freak out the poor reporter. "And may I ask why you're rummaging through my desk?" As if to emphasize, John brought a finger up to flick the Marvin the Martian bobblehead that resided next to the envelopes. Surely Harvey wouldn't have had one of those...

Summer continued to check over her shoulder with any suspicious noise, fully aware that the last thing she needed was to be caught. Still, her arsenal of lies sat prepared on the tip of her tongue as she shifted through the files. So far none of them seemed to be exactly what she was looking for, though kept her aware of what had been preoccupying the department nonetheless. While she considered herself pretty stealthy, it appeared as though the other occupant in the room had her beat in that category. When his voice rang out, the redhead gasped, whirling around to come face to face with him. Well, not exactly face to face.
His height was impressive, causing the young reporter to crane her neck in order to meet his gaze. She tried not to look so stunned by how silent he had entered the room nor how he literally towered over her, but he was a bit intimidating to say the least. Her palms grasping either side of the desk, she instantly knew she was going to resort to lying. With a pearly smile she managed a small, embarrassed laugh. “Oh, I am so sorry. I am still getting used to the remodel. I didn’t realize this was your office! I thought it was my boyfriends. His used to be around this area before the Joker well- you know” She started, her confidence only blossoming as she added to her lie.
“I was looking for some sort of schedule or something to see when he might be back; I had a bit of good news for him that couldn’t wait until he got home. You know, he has a bobble head just like that! Small world, huh?” Tossing her long red locks over her shoulder casually, she moved so that she was no longer uncomfortably pinned between him and his desk. “I’m so sorry for the misunderstanding. I will get out of your way. It was nice to meet you!” She ended with another flash of her pretty smile, making a beeline for the exit.
