Alyce jumped from the edge of a five-story rooftop, catching a window ledge on an apartment building across the way. From there, she proceeded to easily use her momentum to run along the wall to the left before grabbing another window ledge. Next, she jumped from this ledge to a corner sign bar and used it to swing around the building. After swinging around the corner, Alyce was able to use another sign that was jutting out as a sort of balance beam. Quickly, she jumped from the sign, and then down to a drainpipe that was on the building. She slid down it a few feet before jumping backwards to grab ahold of a telephone line. Next, Alyce pulled herself up, balanced her feet on the wire, crouched low, and began to swiftly move along the wire. Doing this allowed her to cross the street below without having to go back down to ground level. She was on a mission, after all, and didn't really want to be seen if she could help it. In fact, that's why she was currently wearing somewhat of a costume.
It was Jacob's idea. He had approached her the other day about having found someone who's related to the murder of her mother and some of their friends. In order to help keep them both out of possible trouble with the law, he suggested following all of the costumed vigilantes and rogues' leads by concealing their identies with costumes. Alyce admitted that it was a good idea, so she decided to find something that suits her. Ever since running into Jervis Tetch a few days ago in the park, she'd been on a slight Wonderland kick. Besides, her name is, essentially, "Alice", and she likes the character and the books. It just made sense to create her own version of an Alice costume. Luckily, she'd been able to find items that, when put together, look something like that of a cross between a Victorian and a Renaissance style dress, with just a touch of her Native American heritage thrown in to make it even more unique.
Around her neck, she wore a three-row, black horn choker. A pair of free-running shoe soles replaced the soft soles of her knee-high black moccasins, which were laced up via light blue ribbons. The dress itself was that of a light blue, short-sleeved peasant blouse, a matching blue, knee-length peasant skirt, and a white floral brocade patterned corset with flexible boning. A white half apron draped in front of the skirt and tied into a large bow at the small of her back. On her strong, but smallish hands, she wore a pair of short black cuffed gloves. Since it was still cold out, she wore a pair of white tights and a tight white thermal shirt underneath the outfit.
She was supposed to meet Jacob at The Stacked Deck, where he said their enemy liked to hang out at. He'd been following the man for weeks, apparently, and finally, he'd managed to eavesdrop on a conversation the killer was having with who appeared to be someone of a higher status. Alyce was almost to the seedy bar and pool hall, located in the east side of the city. It was the most dangerous part of Gotham, but she wasn't afraid. Having a special ability and skills that Jacob and her now dead friends and mother had taught her made her extremely confident that she could take care of herself. If anything, it would be those who tried to hurt her that would have to protect themselves.
After free-running her way across several more rooftops, streets, and alleyways, Alyce finally made it to The Stacked Deck. When she entered, she was immediately greeted with several stares. This was most likely due to her outfit, as well as her short stature that often made her look like a twelve-year-old, rather than the twenty-three-year-old woman that she actually is.
"Hey, little girl, you even old enough to be in here?" a random patron asked. He looked like a petty street thug.
Alyce glared at him, but didn't say anything as she looked around. Where the hell was Jacob? He should be here by now.
'Probably hiding in someone's shadow,' she thought with a slight roll of her eyes.
Like herself, Jacob was also a meta-human. He can hide and travel within shadows, and often liked to make an entrance. Not seeing her good friend and big brother figure amongst the faces in the bar, Alyce decided to find a quiet table and make herself comfortable while waiting for him to show up. She didn't have to wait long. Minutes after finding a small table in a dark corner, Jacob's almost intimidating figure seemed to melt out of of the shadow next to her. Alyce couldn't help but jump a little, startled at his sudden appearance. She could never get used to that.
{"The man we're looking for is playing pool right over there,"} was the first thing out of his mouth. He pointed towards the pool table situated near the center of the room.
Alyce looked at her friend and surrogate brother. He was wearing a large mountain lion pelt as a headdress, and he'd put war-paint on his face. The rest of his outfit consisted of a traditional Cherokee shirt and breeches made from deer hide, a red cotton loin cloth, and a pair of ankle-height moccasins. His tomahawk and hunting knife were secured on either side of the belt that held his breeches and loin cloth up. He looked like a true Native warrior, which made Alyce feel a bit bad for not following suit. Jacob didn't seem to mind, though, as he looked at her in return with approval.
{"You look good, Windrunner. Or should I say, 'Alice'?"} he quipped in Cherokee tongue with an almost Cheshire Cat-like grin spread across his handsome face. {"That outfit suits you quite well."}
{"So does yours, Shadow-walker. Heh, hey! Since I'm 'Alice', you could be the 'Cheshire Cat'!"}
Jacob laughed, responding in English. "I missed your imagination, sister. This Jervis Tetch that you ran into a few days ago seems to have brought it back out."
Alyce blushed. "Well, you helped a little, too. Dressing in costume was your idea, after all."
He just grinned broadly at her before gesturing towards the pool table their enemy was at. "Shall we?"
Nodding, Alyce stood from her seat and traipsied in that direction. Jacob followed close behind, recieving even more odd looks than what Alyce had when she entered. Like she had done, he just gave them looks that would kill if they could. With the way he was dressed, many people shrunk back in slight fear as he gazed darkly in their direction. When they reached the pool table, Jacob approached the man, who gave him a look that was somewhere between offended and frightened. Alyce positioned herself at the end of the table, where she could keep an eye on all of the people surrounding it.
"Two and half years ago, you helped murder some of my friends in Cherokee, North Carolina," Jacob said to the man calmly, his arms crossed in front of his chest as he and the bright eyes in the cougar headdress stared him down. "My sister and I would like to know why, as well as where the rest of your colleagues are..."
