Seven years. Seven years he has been gone. Larry Lance that is. Larry Lance the husband of Dinah Drake Lance and father of Dinah Laurel Lance had died in action while on a murder homicide case. He and another officer had trailed the suspect to a abandoned warehouse in the older part of Gotham. They had spent weeks on gather information, looking for clues and getting a few confessions that had lead them to their man. His name was Daniel McCray, a sadistic killer with a habit of killing his victims and decapitating them. He was know to only kill three people, but that was enough to make him pay, put on death row. Larry and his partner entered the building slowly watching all corners and staircases in that old warehouse. It used to be a holding facility for making washing machines, dryers, fridges, stoves, all those household appliances. But it has since been forgotten due the economy and the company being outsourced. Larry and his partner decided to split up for a brief moment, just to try to throw the criminal off. But that didn't pan out, Larry got gunned down by McCray and his partner was decapitated. McCray was never found. That horrible day, that painful day, Dinah and her mother had held with them for all those years. Dinah was a sixteen year old girl, lost without a father, her mother was delusional losing the only man that she ever loved. The GCPD helped Dinah and her family as much as they can, even putting them in witness protection for a brief period until they finally caught McCray, the coward committed suicide in Blackgate Prison.
A year later, DiDi as the older Dinah was known, moved to Metropolis to get away from Gotham for a bit. She still kept in touch with the personnel at GCPD, friends, more like family to them. One man in particular was Commissioner James Gordon. DiDi and Dinah would attend GCPD balls and fundraiser still proudly support the GCPD, I mean after all it was in DiDi's blood. Her mother was a police dispatcher and her father a cop in his own right, she had tried to be a cop but wanted a more "hands on" approach. That's when she met Ted Grant, a boxer turned superhero known as the Wildcat, under his watchful eye she became the Black Canary. At the age of 18, the younger Dinah would spark an interest in crime fighting herself and became the second Black Canary, with her mother's blessings and she also had a secret weapon, a super sonic scream which she had developed at the age of sixteen through speculated radiation perhaps. The Lances had relocated back to Gotham and DiDi reopened her flower shop, Gotham was their home, they had to return. Only one year under the mask Dinah was noticed by a group called the Justice League of America.
But two years earlier, at the age of seventeen Dinah met a young girl new to Gotham, this young girl at the preteen age of thirteen was a young Barbara Gordon. She was taken in and eventual adopted by her uncle, the commissioner James Gordon. Her parents had died and she was orphaned, so of course James took her in and made her part of his family, now she calls him "Dad'. The two girls had met at a GCPD luncheon fundraiser, held at Robinson Park in mid-July of that year. The took girls even with the four year age gap had hit it off rather nicely. They only got to see each other on about four to five occasions but they always made it worth while when they were together at various events. But in two years Dinah would start her career in the Justice League and she then lost touch with Barbara but always kept their memories.
But today Dinah, no longer part of the League now operates once again in Gotham City, fighting street level crime, back to her roots. She also runs a flower shop with her mother called Gotham Florist and also part-time helps Ted Grant train martial arts at his gym. Seven years since her father's death, now her father is going to be inducted into a memorial, a hall of fame of sorts. The Gotham City Fallen Officers Memorial. His name will forever be immortalized in a memorial wall that will be located in Robinson Park. DiDi had been contacted by GCPD to come in and sign some paperwork to put things into motion, but likely DiDi had came down with the flu and was sick as a dog. So, Dinah was going to fill her mother's place okayed by GCPD. Dinah was at the steps of the police establishment. Wow it's been forever since I been here, Dinah thought. If only they knew that most of the wack jobs and thugs that I beat up over the years were left for them by little old me, but it comes with the territory of being a superhero, all work no glory. Well sometimes. "Well here goes nothing..." She then entered the double doors and made her way to the reception desk. "Hello, can I help you?" Dinah then smiled and gave the woman her hand. "Dinah Lance, nice to meet you... I'm here on behalf of my mother, also named Dinah Lance..." Dinah then chuckled, the lady chuckling also. "Yes, we know of DiDi, poor thing... she called this morning and let us know you were coming in... hope she feels better... have a seat and we will be right with you." She said with a smile. "Thanks..." Dinah then sat down on a nearby chair and began to browse on her phone...

Quickening her pace a bit, Barbara tightly clutched the warm lunchbox close to her athletic frame, hoping she would be able to drop it off before her father engaged in lunch that afternoon. On her spring break, the restless redhead found herself with more free time that she could manage. Other than filling out applications for internships and going to various different interviews pertaining to those she had already applied for, the teen was practically dying for something to do. Which was primarily why she had decide to jog to the police headquarters in order to replace her father’s typical ham and cheese sandwich with a hot, delicious sector of casserole, homemade cupcake and side of steamed vegetables that she had recently prepared.
Prepared to head straight to the gym for an hour or so before she had to go home and get ready for work, she found herself approaching the department in record time. Somewhat impressed at her time as she checked inside the lunchbox to make sure that the contents of the insulated lunch box hadn’t been shifted during her light jog. Pushing open the doors, she smiled brightly at the cluster that sat at the reception. “Hey! Sorry to be a bother, but would you mind giving this to my dad?” She asked, handing the blue lunch container over the desk and toward the woman who greeted her with a warm smile. “Barbara! You are growing up so fast!” The woman insisted, standing up from her desk to give the redhead an awkward hug from over the surface. “Oh, uh yeah! I suppose so.” She smiled as the woman turned to drop the lunch box off in her father’s newly restored office after the recent bat signal incident with the Joker. Even now her jaw tightened at the thought of it, but she quickly attempted to suppress her annoyance with the notorious man. As she turned to leave, she spotted a blonde seated and paused. She looked so familiar; in fact, it only took a matter of seconds for the redhead to recognize her. “Wait, Dinah?” She asked, hoping that she wasn’t mistaken.

Now we wait... Seem like there was always waiting, in life. We wait in lines at the grocery store, wait for appointments at the doctor's office, wait for our evening meal to be finished in the oven, life was a big wait. But, it's like one big roller coaster. Just have to hang on and enjoy the ride. Dinah sitting in the nice sitting area adorned with a coffee and bunch of magazines then began to browse her phone through a different of apps, Pinterest, Twitter, the ever popular Facebook. "Ughh facebook gives me a headache!" Then a red headed young woman made her way into the lobby of the precinct. She then made her way to the receptionist and handed her a lunchbox, it was lunch... lunch for the commissioner. "Barbara! You are growing up so fast!" The receptionist exclaimed with a rather loud voice. The red head then awkwardly agreed like everyone does when they get the compliment/statement that they are "growing up", knowing you since you were yee high! Dinah then began to observe the conversation but also trying not to stare. I mean that was being un polite to stare. Don't ease drop Dinah... The redhead then stated she had to go and desperately trying to get away from the chatterbox of a woman behind the desk, I mean those conversations are always boring, there is only so much you can talk about with those kind of people.
The girl then stopped and looked in Dinah's direction, look who is staring now. She had a puzzled look on her face that then turned into a smile, does she know me? "Wait, Dinah?" Dinah at first was kind of confused and couldn't place her, she definitely knew her but couldn't think of her name. Then Dinah had an epiphany of thoughts, she knew exactly who this was putting two and two together from her bringing lunch to Commissioner Gordon, the red hair and the that round face. "Barbara Gordon!" Dinah said with a delightful tone in her voice. Dinah now chuckling and began to stand up. "Chatty Cathy is right, you are growing up so fast!" Dinah then laughed. "It's been ages, oh my God! How have you been? You look great!" Wow what a small world, Barbara was now a beautiful young woman, very different looking since she knew her when they were just mere preteens. Dinah was smiling ear to ear, it was nice...
notes: No problem hun! ;-)

Barbara was a very outgoing, extroverted young woman with a very promising future ahead of her. While she didn’t mind talking to the woman, she was fully aware of the crush she had on her father for the longest time. Being very protective of the only man in her life that she loved dearly, Babs wasn’t exactly willing to share her father with anyone else – besides, he could do much better than a secretary. Spotting the familiar blonde across the room waiting in the lobby was just one of the most relieving sights she had seen in a while. At least, she hoped that she wasn’t mistaken.
The redhead cracked a smile when the blonde recognized her, and Barbara started toward her instantly with a bounce in her step. “Hey, yeah, I guess you can say that. Then again I was only what – twelve the last time you saw me? Thirteen? I know it’s been a while! Whereas she just saw me a month ago.” She said the last part quietly, rolling her eyes subtly to make sure that the receptionist didn’t hear her. Beaming at the woman’s compliment she put her hands on her hips, “Thanks! So do you! What are you doing here? At the station I mean - not in trouble are you?”
She winked to show the girl that she was only teasing before sitting down next to her in the rigid lobby chairs provided. Babs was very aware of the recent misfortunate situation with her mother, but she hoped it had nothing to do with why she was here. Having lost both of her original parents as well, Barbara was a perfect example that things did get better. She was more than willing to be there for Dinah if she needed her.

Dinah now chuckling and giddy as a child. It was so nice seeing Barbara, it was also sad because they had lost touch since then. "Yeah, you were like thirteen and I was like seventeen I think... but , yea we were the best of friends." Dinah now pushing her hair behind her ear. "I still consider you a good friend even though we haven't seen each other in a while..." Dinah now gentle biting her tongue in a playful gesture. "In trouble? Me? Never!" Dinah giving Barbara a smirk and a laugh. "No! I'm here to sign some paperwork because my father is being inducted and immortalized in the Gotham City Fallen Officers Memorial thing!" Now sighing. "It's been seven years... I... I miss him!" It's really be a long time overdue but no big deal.
Dinah began looking down and not wanting to get too emotional. The times she spent with Barbara were times always revolved around the death of her father, technically. They would hangout and play together at fundraisers, luncheons, parties, etc. Mostly DiDi getting invited cause of guilt and sympathy I'm guessing. DiDi and Dinah were still considered part of the police family. Eventually, the invites started to fade out, but non the less the Lances were still on good terms with GCPD. I wonder if they would still consider them family if they knew who they really are? Well in DiDi's case "was".
Dinah then tried to change the subject. "So, Babs! I would love to get together sometime and have lunch or a coffee... would love to have what we had before... if that's what you want to do!" Dinah then paused, not wanting to seem pushy. "I could use a friend..." Dinah now smiling. "Are you free maybe in a couple minutes after I get these papers signed?"

The white, straight smile seemed to be ever-present on her face as she reunited with her long-time friend. It was odd to see how she matured, though she still had the bright eyes and naturally blonde hair that Babs always remembered her to display. “Right? Gosh, sorry I haven’t kept in touch much. I’ve just been so busy really, and I wasn’t quite sure where you uprooted too.” She felt a little guilty for allowing their friendship to fall between the cracks, but she was young at the time with little means of communication. Now that they were reunited, they could resume the sisterly relationship that they had prior to her leaving.
Her smile grew at her comment, “Oh really? I should have known that! Wow! That’s awesome, Dinah! Your father was a remarkable man; he deserves to be remembered for his service.” Barbara said genuinely, rubbing the blonde’s back reassuringly as she mentioned how much she missed her father. Barbara didn’t know what she would do if she lost her father…again. Being orphaned once was enough already, but she could never lose the man who had brought her to Gotham and kept her out of a foster home.
She was relieved when the subject changed, while she was more than willing to be there for her dear friend, she didn’t want to see her so upset. The loss of her parents was sure to be a devastating blow, but Babs was going to step into the picture and let her know that she wasn’t alone. “I would love that.” She said a playful smirk on her face. “Goodness Dinah, you sound like you are asking me out on a date.” She teased, elbowing her playfully.
“Yeah! That sounds great. I just got done with my run; I could go for some lunch.” She took a seat next to the blonde, prepared to wait with her. “What sounds good to you?”

Dinah smiled. She loved that Barbara was just as open and enthusiastic as she remembered. It was easy tot talk to her, after all this time it felt like it was just yesterday. Dinah then smiled again and began rubbing her hands together. "You know what, I would love some froyo right now!" Dinah gestured as she made yum sounds. "Been having the weirdest cravings..." Dinah then made a wide eyed face. "Oh I'm not pregnant! Hehe, you have to have a guy to have that... I just broke up with my boyfriend a year ago... ughh..." Wow things got awkward again, why am I telling her this? Way to sound pathetic Dinah, she thought as she looked down.
"You do like frozen yogurt right? With some fresh fruit? and granola?" She questioned, every one loves yogurt. But then the two were interrupted by the receptionist exclaiming that the paper work was ready to sign. "Oooo great! Right on time Chatty Cathy!" Wait, did she hear that? Dinah then read of it and signed on the dotted line. "Is that it? Wow, it's such an honor for daddy to get inducted..." She then smiled and gave the forms back to the lady.
"Well that was quick, so anyway... what ya say Babs? Down for it?" Dinah then put her hands together and winked. Mmm, I want strawberry or peach, hmmm, why not get both!

An extra bounce in her already-peppy step, the redhead found herself equally excited about a bit of frozen yogurt. Checking to make sure she had enough cash on her quickly, she smiled before looking back to the blonde. “That sounds great actually, I can’t remember the last time I had some frozen yogurt.” She reached to her exposed, toned stomach that seemed to be joining the conversation with a couple of low growls of its own. However, it was Dinah’s comment that caused her bright blue eyes to widen and jaw drop at the news of her ‘cravings’. Was the woman pregnant? Babs couldn’t help but laugh when the girl eased her fears. “Oh! You worried me a bit. Who were you dating and are you alright? God, I couldn’t tell you the last time I dated someone."
Hoping that he comment might help the fallen blonde feel a bit better, Babs was eager to help the smile return to the perky woman’s face. “I do, this new place opened up down the road if you want to give it a try?” Peering over Dinah’s shoulders as the woman informed her she was ready for her to sign; Babs stepped out of the way and allowed her to do so. “Alright, let’s get out of here.” She joked, holding the door open for Dinah and allowing her to leave first. “You would be surprised how much this place has changed since you have been gone, and not exactly for the better I am afraid."
