“O, wonder! How many goodly creatures are there here! How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world, That has such people in't!” -The Tempest by William Shakespeare Act 5 Scene I
The Joker's havoc had wreaked greatly upon Gotham City's West End. The buildings that had been damaged and/or destroyed took their toll on the area. Police tape still surrounded the area, cleaning crews were already at work cleaning up the rubble and getting everything squared away that the police didn't need to keep intact for investigation
"Bivins, I need you to get down there and see what you can scrape up. Also... side note, try and figure out who that girl in the hood was. Y'know, the one with the hoodie on that hugged that bomb and somehow walked away. I want to know who the hell she is. That shit ain't normal and I got enough vigilantes and super-freaks runnin' around my turf. I have a feeling she might be that girl in that virile video of that girl that awoke from the rubble a couple weeks back..."
The Detective was particularly irate this week. Between two precincts getting gassed and nearly getting blown up twice the days before Bullock was not really in a chipper mood lately. He bit angrily into a salad and looked back at Bivins.
"Whaddya doin' standin' there!? GO!"
Meanwhile...
The girl in question stood a few rooftops away from the one she had been blown up on a few days before. She wore a black leather jacket with a black hoodie nestled inside of it, the hood pulled up over her head to conceal her face as best she could. Her pants were black as well as her shirt. Her eyes faintly glowed a bluish purple off in the distance.
She leaped roof top to roof top until she got to the very rooftop she'd hugged that bomb. She saw that the police had not really had much time to do hardly anything. She crouched down and began to observing the scorch mark. In her head she was trying to work out the physics of everything that happened. She may have been pent up in a laboratory for the last ten years, but she did know a thing or two about force and power. She had been given an extensive education on the subject of physics. She pulled a small test tube from her pocket and with gloved hands she began scraping up some of the char from the scorch marks. She would be able to use this later to try and determine what the explosives had been made of. She really didn't know why she felt the need to figure it out, hell she didn't even understand why she took it upon herself to help at all with the situation the other day.
She turned her head as she picked up a song off in the distance. One thing that was greatly annoying about heightened senses was that sometimes you picked up on things that weren't really all that important at the moment. She sighed and continued doing what she was. A moment later she could hear several jack hammers being started up all around the same time and then a wave of noise came from a club not far. She grit her teeth and put her hands to her ears.
Another annoying thing about heightened senses was the fact that the world could sometimes overwhelm a girl.

Bivins looked at the boss and said "Jeez boss, okay! Don't need to get all up in my face about it I'm going, I'm going!" He hands a coffee to the L.T., with the added enabler medicine, and then goes down to go to the crime scene. He's prepared for the moods of the boss, and he understands that morale is important for this sort of work, especially the boss' morale.
Okay, so crime scene, go down to the site of the blast and scrape up some samples. Maybe question some people, although the uniforms would be going and asking the basic bits, getting the witnesses together for the DIs and the Lt. . . perimeter was set up already, so the scene was secure. Then down the checklist, check the security footage, get the samples to forensics, document and cross compare witness testimony. Down the checklist, check check check. . . Bivins was learning from the boss the business of investigation was not a matter of deductive reasoning or leaps of brilliant logic, but rather perseverance and constant pressure, go down the checklist, investigate everything methodically and keep pushing until something broke. Despite all the jokes that Bivins played, and all the insults. . . the Boss actually kinda knew what he was doing, and Bivins kinda wanted to learn from him, so he actually started thinking it down by the book.
Okay, the girl was interesting. Eyewitness testimony said that she'd picked up one of the explosions and just hugged it to her. . .some said absorbing the blast, some said she just blocked the blast, either way, was it the girl from the viral video? He'd seen it when it came out, he always kept an eye on that sort of thing, hell, he'd sent it to most of the office along with that video about the rapping train. Yeah, rapping train. DJ Motherfuckin' Choo Choo! That was an old school track. WHAT? YEAH! Self five. No one saw, right, okay. So the girl, could be the same girl, maybe? He'd have to track her down though. See what the eye witnesses saw, cross check it to security footage. . . maybe it'd give a direction. Go that way and cross check it again. Maybe there'd be footage from the CCTV at the various garages nearby, ATMs. . . harder to get a warrant, but possible if they needed to track. Maybe he could ask around. He'd have to think of something, it's not like the girl will just come back. This was real life, and no matter what detective fiction said, the person of interest didn't just return to the scene of the crime!
Bivins approached the scene of the crime and saw the girl scraping up samples, the black jacket, t hoodie, the distracted expression. "Seriously? Really? Hot women don't just come up to me and bring me money! That doesn't happen in real life! What? No world? God damn it." He started to walk towards the lady "Heyyyyy. . .hoodie girl. . . ya doin okay there?" Casual, smooth. Maybe he could figure out why she was tampering with a crime scene! That's just not cool. Only cops are allowed to do that. And a few random people in bat costumes. Why bat costume? Seriously, don't get distracted, Bivins. Another topic for another time!

Stormy was grunting, trying to block out the multiple sounds when she noticed the young man walking toward her. Her reflexes kicked in and she made quick work of backing away from him, capping the tube and stuffing it in her pocket. As soon as she let her hands off the sides of her head she grit her teeth at all the noise. She put her hands over her ears again and her eyes reflected the falling sun from under the shadow of the hood.
"What do you want?!"
Stormy recognized him as the police officer that was helping the bigger meaner one the other day after he got hit by a car and nearly blown up in the first explosion. She stood at the ready. She wasn't going to go anywhere with him any time soon. The noise of the city was so irritating to the point it was about to become overwhelming. Now she changed gears and stepped toward him cautiously. Maybe he had something on him like ear buds, head phones, or even hearing protection.
"I'm fine!" she said defiantly. From under the hood her eyes, faintly a purple glow, watched him with more interest than she intended. When you were locked up in a lab for a decade, before you even had a chance to meet boys as a teenager, when you got to finally see them again, you noticed how much they changed as they grew as well. He seemed faintly familiar.

He blinked at her, looking at how the light hit her face. . . and sort of shone from her face. The purple light played played just so on her jaw and visible features, that standoffish leather badass posture, and the fact she could take explosions without seeming to blink. Bivins thought of some sort of sonnet. Shall he compare thee to a summer's day? You're hot! He noticed she as in pain.
"You certainly are fine. . . I mean. . . um . . hey, how ya doin? Lookin good, although you're kinda in an active crime scene, although I just wanted ta know was that . . . " he blinks as he says "You don't look too good. You look kinda . . . " he watches her cover her ears. Easy to solve. He blinks as he pulls out the earbuds for his phone, handing them to her saying "Uh, here, put these in." he turns on the Sleep sounds App, for just some ambient white noise to run through them. Hypersensitivity. Makes sense, maybe she's got some super sense too, to go along with that super hot. . . her.

She grit her teeth, looking down for a moment and then back to him, noticing him offering the ear buds. She just stared him down for a moment and then stepped toward him cautiously. She finally got close enough and took the ear buds and looked at them, gritting her teeth again when she took her hands off her ears. She looked down at them and hastily put them in her ears. Her eyes seemed to instantly light up more, but somehow they looked more mellowed out.
She closed them for a moment and when she opened them again her eye lids seemed droopier than they had been before.
"Thanks, that helps, a lot."
She felt her cheeks flush a bit. Her face was a bit more clear now, even as the sun was escaping the day while the moon was bursting forth into night, accepting its reflection.
"I'm sorry for tampering, but I did sort of get blown up, I think I have a little bit of a right to try and figure out who did it and what they used. I know how to figure that sort of thing out."
She closed her eyes and opened them slowly again, relishing the soothing sounds.
"You are a police officer?"
She bit her lip a little.

He shrugs and says "Eh, only part time, but what I really wanna do is direct, ya know?" He smiles at that, yeah, smooth, totally smooth, he's like smoothcakes on a smoothplatter of smooth with smoothfrosting on, metaphor dead Bivins move on.
"But yeah, I'm Bivins, and I suppose you got a right to find out whats goin on, but ya see." He smiles at her "And I know that it's um. . . hard to tell in this town what with all the bats flying around. . . the police like to keep their crime scenes sorta untampered until we look at it. I mean, not that you ain't got a right ta know, but still, you see, we gotta keep things nice and on lockdown" He explains it slowly and slightly sarcastically.
"So yeah, ya know. We take that personal. . . I know you were here earlier too, and you're that girl from the video. I'm Bivins, what should I call ya? And maybe, ya know, you could tell me what happened. I'm a good listener. Mama Bivins usedta tell me that all the time!" He looks at her, offering her his cup of coffee. "Here, I ain't touched it. You look like you could use some. Super hearing? Or what?" He smiled, sorta derpy, sorta chill. He's not yelling yet, he's actually pretty laid back.

She took the coffee and smelled it making a sour face.
"No thanks, I don't think I'll like that."
She never took his phone from him so she just had these ear buds going from her ears to his hand.
"I understand. I'm sorry, but if you want to discuss all this could we go somewhere a little less loud. I can hear you and all, but I can hear everything else. I just... I can't really-"
Her eyes darted to something off in the distance. It was a bird landing on a power line about a block away. It had caught just the right amount of light in her peripheral that it demanded her attention. Heightened senses and reflexes.
"There's too much stimulation out here, it is hard to shut it all out to focus on one thing at a time."

He nods and says "Yeah. . . yeah, we can do that. I don't know if you wanna go into the station, it's a little loud. Maybe. . . uh. . . just inside here for a bit. Ya know?" He looks around and finds a part of the building that's a little more split off. "I mean, unless ya want to get into my car. It's got like, the sound proofing to it. Might help. Ya know." He shrugs and then smirks a bit.
"You sure you don't want something? Maybe like a soda or something? Water? You did just get blown up to the face, ya know." Blowed up to the face? Blown up to the face? Blown up, and hit in the face? How does one conjugate Blow anyway? Eh, forget it. "You sure the uh, music's okay? I mean, you can pick if you like other background noise. I got like uh. . . " he looks at it closer. "I got birds, I got um, th sound of a river. Distant train, never got that. Trains ain't very soothin." He shrugs and shows her the selection, then shrugs as he says 'Yeah, let's try the car. Maybe it'll help."

"You seem like you're... nervous."
She could feel his heart beat just by being within ten feet of him. She could see it in the subtle movement of his chest. Only a few people could see and feel everything in their surroundings as she did.
She followed him down and they eventually got into his car. She sat in it. It was warmer in there than it was outside, she relished in that, tugging her jacket around her just a bit more to speed the process of heating up just a little. She looked around in it. It wasn't in terrible shape, but not wonderful shape either. You could tell he was someone into his work because the backseat seemed to be filled with materials relevant to his job as well as paper cups that once held coffee in them.
She turned to him after they shut their doors. She looked down at his phone again.
"What is this?"
Yeah, she'd missed the whole smart phone thing. She began tapping through it looking a bit impressed.
"Wow, its like a computer, but you can touch the screen instead of using a mouse."

"Yeah, it's kinda cool. He turns on the heater in the car to warm it up. I was thinking of getting one of the new KordLess models, but I think the LexMark's got some better stuff to it." He shrugs and looks at her "Yeah, they came out a few years back. Pretty nifty, I like em. Like, it's got more power than my last desktop, I love it. They're all over now, you should think about gettin one. Feel free to mess around with it."
He settles into the car and carefully puts the cup in the cupholder, looking at her and then saying "And yeah, I'm nervous. You're ho-t! Whatcha want from me?" He clears his throat and looks ahead, his voice cracked a bit at that.
"So what should I call you? Because sexy mystery girl's gonna be quite a mouthful in the long run. And what's your story?" He smiles at her. He isn't TOO much older than her after all, and she was just so damned cool! I mean, GOD look at her, she's got that tough girl thing going on, and the mystery stuff, and the lights, dang, she was just his type! Outta his league!

Stormy laughed quietly at him. He was sweet and kind of a dork, too. And he seemed pretty honest even if he didn't know how to shut up and stop talking a little bit, which was a bit of a welcome thing for her. She had been so used to being isolated for so long. Once they got down to the question of 'her story' she sighed a bit heavily. She plucked the ear buds from her ears. She could still hear the outside world, but it was muffled enough that it was tolerable.
"Alright, look. I'll tell you what my deal is, but I really don't know if I want this to be public knowledge, at least any time soon..."
Another sigh and thought dedicated to how to word it.
"My dad was a researcher. He worked for Wayne before I was born and then after my mom died giving me birth he decided to move us to Metropolis. He started working for a company called Metro Genetics. He had been developing a way to allow any normal human being to be given super or meta human abilities. They had us move back to Gotham eventually and when I was about fifteen he'd finished his research, having figured out how do it. He'd refused to actually do it for moral reasons and so... well... They kidnapped me and told him he had to do it to me and if he didn't they would kill me. They told me if I resisted they'd kill us both."
Stormy closed her eyes for a moment, when she opened them again, they were normal, no more light coming from them, just regular green eyes. She pulled her hood back, finally revealing her face and black hair.
"Up until that building's rubble I was found in crumbled to pieces, I had been living in an underground lab for ten years. My name is Stormy Evening, my father was Dr. Ira Evening."
She sighed again. She hadn't told anyone the full story yet, she had only recently managed to put the pieces together.
"I was the one who brought the building down. They were doing final tests before they planned on wiping my memory and somehow bending me to their will, I broke the support beams of the building. When they had shined a light on me, something about it, gave me all this strength. I just hopped up, broke my shackles and began destroying everything."

He's taken aback by the story, listening as she finishes and very actively not staring at her breasts. He tries to keep eye contact, but after a while he just looks out the window, listening "Whoa, that's quite a story." He shakes his head and sort of stares at her again, and then the hood came off and . . . dang! He stops and kind of just looks over her.
"I mean. Well.. You know." He looks at her "Look, I know people. People who can help with that." He smiles as he says "I mean, you got a case. Kidnapping? Manipulation of your body? Assault? I can help you take these bastards down." He shrugs as he says "Look, it's the least we can do. Justice has ta mean something, right?"
He smiles a bit awkwardly "You, uh. . . you got a place to stay? I mean, you got friends or anything? I mean, you been alone for a while, I don't know if you got any of them, whatchacall, support networks." He shrugs as he says "I mean, I don't know. . . Stormy, that's a hell of a name." He smiles stupidly and then says "So you're telling me that building was a secret lab, and they were doing secret stuff to you, and you just broke on out. Okay, that I can buy. I've seen weirder stuff in Gotham, and who knows what those Metropolis people do. They gotta guy that can fly out there, so this is believable. . . but why not talk to anyone about it? Why not . . . I mean, you're out, why not try to find someone to help?"

"I want to lay low until I figure more out. I mean, yeah, you can probably go ahead and close my missing person case, but I really don't want it to go beyond the walls of where you work. I already am apparently on youtube, whatever that is. For all I know the people who owned that company could be out looking for me."
She bit her lip a little when he asked about her having a place to stay.
"Not really, I just been shacking up in some abandoned warehouses and what not on the outskirts of town. I don't really have much of anything. You may not like this, but I sort of had to steal all these clothes, but I left enough money to cover for it. You're the second person I've actually spoken to, period. I know you have a job where you have to catch people who commit crimes, but I've only done what I've done out of necessity. And no offense, but if you tried to cuff me I would just break them. I don't want to ruin your stuff."
She smirked a bit.
"Yeah, my parents had a quirky sense of humor I guess. My dad said I was born during a storm at night and he and my mother, while she was in labor, decided to name me Stormy. I guess they had an interesting since of humor."
She wrinkled her nose a bit.
"I still really don't know who I could possibly go to and try and find some help or answers from. This is all kind of new to me."

He shakes his head as he says "Hey, no, that's cool, I think. I mean, we got bigger fish to fry than petty theft. I mean, heck, if I had a dollar for every time I'd stolen a buck. . . um. . . not a good example, but I think it's fine, and we should getcha off the street, somewhere comfortable. I'd invite you to my place, but uh. . . " he looks at the back of his car for a moment
"Let's see what we can do. You're livin in a warehouse on the outskirts of town, this is like . . . a halfstep up. Maybe the boss has some ideas, or maybe the boss's girlfriend! Yeah, she takes in folks like you sometimes. I think I still got her number. Maybe we should talk ta her. . . ya know, before the boss. He's a little grumpy lately about uh. . . explosions." He shrugs as he says "Tell you what, how bout we go back somewhere. Maybe my place." He considers for a moment, then says "Then uh, maybe somethin ta eat? You hungry? I got um. . . we can stop on the way back, or we can get takeout. My place is quiet except for the roaches. . ." He clears his throat "It's not much, but eh, it's home!"
He clears his throat and says "So uh, yeah! It's a start until we figure out where ta go next."

Stormy nodded to his words.
"That's fine, I appreciate your help. I wish I didn't have to take it but I don't have a lot of friends."
That last sentence was a bit hard to accept as fact, but then again, she was used to it. It looks as though she may have made a new friend.
"I'll eat anything, really, I have no preferences. I don't really even know what's what around here like I used to."
This town had changed a lot in ten years, that was for sure.
"Wait. Take me to 35th and Park. That was where I used to live. I want to at least see it. Never know, maybe we'll find something there."
