James Flemmons' eyes widened as he finished reading Vicki Vale’s article in The Gotham Gazette. “How does she do it?” he asked his friend Rowdy Yates who was seated at the bar filling out paperwork for a substantial bank deposit. “How does Vicki always manage to beat all the other news agencies to the punch?”
Rowdy smirked at Jimbo’s comment concerning Vicki’s resourcefulness. “She’s good at what she does, isn’t she? Puts her competition to shame. Vicki’s the best news reporter in the business, hands down. Even that hot news anchor Summer Gleeson is pale in comparison to Vicki -- and not just because she’s a fair-skinned redhead, either!”
“She has red hair?” Jimbo asked mockingly. “I never noticed. I’m too busy watching the rest of her!” He made gestures with his hands about Miss Gleeson’s breasts and curves.
Rowdy laughed.
Suddenly, the head chef stormed out of the kitchen and walked up to Rowdy. “I can’t take it anymore! I quit!” he screamed, throwing his apron on the counter. “Why did you hire me such an incompetent cooking staff? They don’t even know the difference between cayenne pepper, chili powder, and paprika!”
Rowdy swallowed hard. He didn't either! “C’mon, Manny. You can’t quit on me now. You can’t leave me hanging like this. We open in an hour. How about giving me one week?”
Manny eyed Rowdy sheepishly.
“C’mon. You owe me, man. One week. Then you can split. Okay?”
Manny nodded and picked up his apron. “I don’t know who you’re going to get to manage those inexperienced amateurs,” he fumed. Manny definitely had a flair for the dramatic. “Good luck replacing me! You’re going to need it! No one is going to want to work with those barbaric savages!”
As Manny turned and stormed back into the kitchen, Jimbo blew air. “This is just great!” he groaned. “What are we going to do, Rowdy?”
“We’re going to find somebody else in a week, that’s what,” Rowdy replied matter-of-factly. “I’ll place a want ad on the net and in the newspaper today. How do you like that answer?"
“Smart ass,” Jimbo grumbled under his breath.
