There had been so much to do..unpacking from her trip, cleaning up the house, checking her mail (and messages) to see if anyone had sent anything while she had been away..and more cleaning. Then catching up on sleep and the news in Gotham...
Which was why Rachel was currently sitting outside a small coffee shop, newspaper on the table, Styrofoam cup of coffee in one hand as she scrutinized the articles and listings, trying to at least appear as if she were relaxing and still taking it easy, with all the time in the world for nothing to happen while casually taking in the view of those passing by; cars, cyclists, pedestrians, all moving in the same endless flow to a rhythm Rachel had grown up seeing and was quite often a part of it as she went through work.
Settled as she may have seemed, however, Rachel was actually almost impatiently awaiting an acquaintance she had come to know. Hopefully he would be there soon, and they could catch up on everything that had occurred while she was absent. Sipping the coffee, Rachel wished for the third time that she had chosen the tea instead..much better than this bitter stuff.

Victor glanced at his watch as he pulled up into a parking spot in his old BMW and winced slightly when he realized he was running late. He had to stop by his office at the University to pick somethings up that he would prefer to keep in his apartment instead of in his office. Mainly things such as a photo of him and his uncle, a jar that he would keep candy in. And the only pen he had that seemed to work reliably.
He killed the engine and took the key out of the ignition, and after taking a quick look around to see if he had gotten everything put away he snatched up his fedora and put it on his head as he got out. He squinted against the light as he looked around. When he saw Rachel he closed the door and made his way over to her fixing his glasses in mid-step.
"Sorry I'm late." he said as he sat down across from her with his usual smile on his face. "Welcome back to Gotham by the way. You look good." He said in kind greeting.

Rachel sipped from her cup, glancing at the cars passing by. Maybe he had something that kept him from coming? She hoped not..it had been a while since she had seen her friend, and it would have been good to see him again.
The sound of a car door closing caught her attention, and Rachel turned to look toward the source, smiling. He was here. Late, but he was here. She could understand being tardy getting places, though..work had made her late for rendezvous as well. She watched as he put his fedora on his head and walked over, adjusting his glasses.
Victor..it had indeed been a bit since they had talked. "Mr. Grant, it is wonderful to see you again. And what is late? Seems we all run into that problem every now and then." Offering him the menu for the coffee shop, Rachel studied her friend and smiled at his comment. "It is good to be back..and thank you. You look like you've been doing all right..busy?" She sipped from her coffee cup, and continued speaking. "I can't let anyone at work hear me say this, but it was nice to get away for a little bit, even if it did force me out of the loop and work."
Leaning forward across the table, chin resting on hands with elbows propped up on the table's edge, she tilted her head at Victor. "So, care to catch me up on recent events?"

Victor chuckled slightly at Rachel's comment about being late. "Yeah the University has picked up a new textbook for my class so I'm having to go over it." He said in response. It more just spilled out then he actually mean to say that. After all she probably had bigger things going on.
He took the offered menu and studied it abit. He never really had been a big fan of coffee, though his uncle sure was. In fact one of Victor's strongest memories of home was the overwhelming stench of coffee being brewed. He eventually got used to it but it always hit him like a sack of bricks when he first entered the room.
Victor grinned slightly and looked over the top of the menu. "Well be honest, Gotham is nice to get away from at times." He replied good jovially.
"As for what's happened." He said before letting his gaze drift upwards as he thought. "They paved the street in front of my apartment.." He began with jokingly before getting on with what he felt Rachel was more interested in knowing. "Well, for a little while Oliver Queen was in town, the police force has grown abit, same with the staff at the Asylum. Oh and I'm not sure if this is what you had in mind but there's rumors of a werewolf in the city." He couldn't help but laugh at that last part. "Same with a Ghost." He knew it sounded ridiculous but he'd been hired enough times to go try and find a picture of them. Needless to say he hadn't gotten one. The werewolf he hadn't because he himself was the werewolf, but he still didn't believe they existed because he wasn't supernatural. And well..... Need he explain why he didn't find a ghost?
He turned in his seat to get the attention of a waiter that was passing by. "Hi, um... Do you have chocolate milk here?" He asked. The waiter told him that they could make some and after saying thanks Victor turned back to Rachel. "So I'm guessing you'd like more info than that, eh?"

Rachel smiled, listening to Victor speak. It was nice to sit here and talk with a friend..why had she never done this before? Work..that was why. Always work. But not today; today was hers, the last few until she went back to her job. So she would make the most of this time with her friend.
"They paved your street? That must have been exctiting. And you've been chasing creatures of the night too? I certainly missed a lot of the interesting stuff here then, didn't I?"
Rachel smiled, joking right along with Victor. His humor was nice..made things easier sometimes. As he spoke of the Asylum and police force, Rachel paid closer attention. If the Asylum was expanding staff, then there were reasons for that. Big reasons..and she intended to find out what the reasons were as soon as she got back to work.
Oliver Queen...She would have to dig up files and see if they had information on this visitor. Hopefully there were notes at least, if not a full file. While Victor asked the waiter for chocolate milk, Rachel mused with a smile at his request. She should have thought of that..instead of the coffee. Even the tea probably wasn't to her taste, but the coffee gave her the caffeine.
"So, a new textbook, huh? How are classes going at the University anyways?" Rachel queried, taking another sip of her coffee and smiling at Victor.

Victor found himself returning the smile and looking at Rachel's face. She had a certain charm about her, he couldn't quite tell what it was but it was there. He always enjoyed hanging out with friends but there was always something extra nice about being around Rachel. "Yeah it was kinda exciting. It took alittle while to get used to it but it wasn't too bad." He said with a smile.
He looked up when the man brought the chocolate milk and nodded in thanks offering to pay before hand. When he saw that it wouldn't be a good idea then he decided to go ahead and pay later. He looked back at Rachel and found himself looking into her eyes. Partly out of habit and partly because he was trying to find out what was going on behind those eyes.
He gave a nod. "The classes are going well. I'm keeping the students on their toes." He grinned and gave a slight chuckle. "Some days are more interesting then others." He looked around abit for no real reason, more just because he felt he should. "But seriously it is nice to see you again." He said after a few seconds pause.
