...Hours earlier...
She hadn't been able to think. And she'd pushed herself stupidly. Blindly, even. She wasn't in her best shape, even though she'd torqued her ankle months prior on the motorcycle. Shaking her head, she gripped the wine glass angrily as she sat at her desk, still staring at nothing. Green eyes were glazed over, the throbbing in her ankle permeating the pain of thought in her brain. Glancing vacantly between her nearly empty wine bottle to the computer screen before her; she shook her head.
It couldn't be. She thought. Things..were adding up. But then they were just as quickly crumbling. Tipping back the last dregs of wine in her glass, she filled it with the minuscule amount left. Wine hadn't even been able to temper the fire in her chest, or dull her pain. And she didn't want to drown out either sensation with her painkillers.
Jamming a finger on her keyboard, a few sheets of paper printed while she glanced to her phone. It had been buzzing on and off for a while, but she had no desire to see who it was. But as her printer hummed and churned out the pages, she finally flicked the phone on, to see a few missed calls, a few texts from Liv, and one from Nina.
"Guess who stopped by asking for you. ..."
Bullshit. It was Bruce Wayne. Blinking back the tears, Selina answered the text with a simple, "Oh." and nothing more.

She couldn't ask for Nina's help. Even if she may be able to repair her ankle. She was a mess. In just her robe, pale from the vomiting episode, and then gaunt from crying, and the tension. She could ask Nina later. No point in burdening the woman, her friend with more of this bullshit than necessary. Fisting the pieces of paper between her fingertips to the point she tore it, she shakily compared it to the odd footage she'd dug up on her computer, as well as the news stories that had ran on the news while she was out. "Anniversary..." kept repeating through her mind. "Benefit for..." adding to it.
All the pieces fit. Her free hand went to the trio of batrangs she had from years ago. Running a fingertip over each of them, she shook her head faintly as she noticed how..old they seemed in comparison to what he used now. Heavier, but more durable, and lightweight all in the same breath.
..and this one was engraved. Her fingernail traced the words, and she couldn't comprehend. Was this the sole incident, the main catalyst that had robbed a young boy of his childhood, and set him hell bent on a life of revenge?
It didn't make sense to her. The man she saw nightly. The tall, grim, brooding wall of muscle she fought, teased, and tangoed with. Pushing the inscribed, newer batarang into her collection, she couldn't believe he'd be that stupid to leave it.
Who would actually fucking believe Bruce Wayne had enough braincells to contact Batman?
Who would have enough braincells to not let that small detail go overlooked...

There was one man. One man she knew of who she even cherished his time, his wit. And he had gone and scrawled across Gotham in his signature color....Who. Is. Batman.
And she knew the answer. But she sure as shit wasn't going to Eddie. Edward. The Riddler, of all people with the answer. She'd be laughed out of the room. Even the Joker wouldn't comprehend that. Nor would she give either of those men the reason.
But Crane...he would, or could possibly put two and two together. But...why a Bat? Why..and how the hell could Bruce Wayne possess enough braincells to ...pull this off? Too many questions were causing her head to pound, and finally, finally she would call out to Liv, the other woman's muffled steps and hesitant entrance to the room echo'ing against her skull.
A few exchanged glances, a few words, and Liv returned in several minutes with a pair of crutches first, then a platter with tea, soup, a sandwhich, and a small vial of pills. The last item wasn't asked for, but it would be needed, but never requested.
Liv finally was able to get her coaxed into a bath, her food beside her as she shed the last of her soaking wet night off and finally started to stave the chill from her spine.
Batman. Bruce Wayne. Bruce..she knew Bruce. Impeccably dressed..moron. Of course they had at times made small talk at the benefits, and other socialite events...but he was always being fought over by the other women. Talked about by the harpies. Competed for by...everyone.
Dressed to the nines. Buying things like they were going out of style. Bimbos on his arms, forgetting things, drinking like a fish.
Was it all really an act? Could those same steel cold blue eyes belong to a man she'd discreetly mocked the other socialites with behind their glasses of champagne?

After aches were dulled, food was eaten, some restless sleep had by minutes, Selina finally tried to piece things together. It was starting to make sense, but..it wasn't. Bruce Wayne, an orphaned child, limitless money at his expense. But why, oh why would he slip up...as his nightly alter ego? Sighing heavily, she let her forehead fall into her palm again as she knocked the papers from her bed.
Reaching for her phone, Selina dialed a familiar but unused number, hoping someone would answer on the end. He was one of the few that understood...her dilemma.
And still it rang. And Rang. And rang....

Starfire found herself rather comfortable upon one of the familiar stone carved faces, of Bludhaven. Had a eery feel like Gotham. Finding the irony of wings either side. Having found herself here after arriving from New York. It had been a titan day, let's say they happen often. Now she was here to help. Nightwing, well. For now she was watching. Something she often like doing as not always did he need her help. It was dark, but she could make out most of it. As she laid comfortably. A orange hand to her cheek and the other played at his phone. She was at least protecting something, apparently it was important. It was the oddest thing. Something so small was like the world to so many. It kept people in touch which Kory of course liked, but there was nothing like the face to face contact of a friend. A phone didn't hug back. On some planets things were maybe close. Although it had some other nice features.
As Kory scrolled through. Not trying to do too much damage. Finding the music. Help keep her company until Nightwing returned. Playing a new favourite. It wasn't noticeable from where she was, but she sang along. It made her feel some very familiar emotions. Many from back when up until now. Not finding the irony she holding a phone, but she could be forgiven as it made her think of something more important. Placing the phone in safe spot. As she enjoyed the mild night. Her hand then coiled gently through her fiery hair. She was peaceful. Then she was tamaranean. As she sang and hummed along. Then suddenly a sound came that Kory half jumped to. Someone was calling? Kory questioned as she looked at it. Seeing the familiar thing on the screen. Recalling last time. Kory's fingers was toying whether to press to speak. Though that wasn't her fault? Right? Gently speaking to it, to please stop. It did just that. Ok. Close call. Kory thought as the song then continued. Before soon it flashed up again. Ok. Ok. Kory fiddled. Oh no. Wrong button. Eventually she succeeded. Speaking directly seemed so much easier to her. As sweetly Kory brought the device to her ear.
"Greetings…!"
Kory spoke simply into the phone. After all she didn't know whom had rung or if someone was even there. Though she kept with her sweet sounding self. It could be important. Something she needed to pass on to Nightwing. Her green eyes gently scaled below. Catching the swift moves. AMAZING! Starfire kindly thought. Causing a smile to match her sweet and humble nature. Wherever this was going, Kory was going with it. She had to. She needed to. It would hurt to much if she didn't... As there Kory laid, hidden in shadows of Bludhaven and awaited the voice from the other side.

What. The. Hell.
A woman's voice is not what she was expecting. She had been hoping for the gruff, maybe even joking voice of Robin-cum-Nightwing, or even as Dick. Someone, anyone other than....oh. It seemed it was his girlfriend, the tall, statuesque redhead. A few seconds of thinking conjured up the woman's name. Kory.
"Oh. Greetings to you as well, Kory. Is Dick around?" Not wanting to give up too much, Selina kept it as mundane as possible. Not that it would be odd for Selina Kyle to be calling Bruce Wayne's ward on a rather..private number. In the middle of the night. Not. At. All. So Selina drummed her fingertips on her cheek waiting to see if she could speak with Dick. If not, the possibility of either calling up a certain blue eyed man herself, or ripping her hair out were simple options.

There was a brief moment of silence to the phone at Kory's ear. As she still laid comfortably upon the statue, it wasn't overly cool the night was a rather warm one. Dangling her feet somewhere behind her in the air, in subtle movements. Stopped shortly as soon a voice entered her ear. Kory sweetly smiled. It didn't sound overly familiar. She hadn't expected anyone particularly, it was female. That was what Kory could tell and apparently knew who Kory was? It was possible Kory forgot. Whoever this was did sound polite as Kory listened to what was being said. Asked. So she knew Dick. Whether she knew Nightwing was hard to say. Though at her enquiry Kory amusingly smiled. Her eyes looked below. Well…
"Forgive me your voice doesn't seem familiar to me, have we met?"
Politely Kory asked the mystery woman on Dick's phone. The voice was defiantly a warm and rather beautiful tone to it. Then perhaps this woman was in bed, it was late. Who was out up this late that wasn't a hero, vigilante or villain? Well, maybe if there was a party, Teens maybe. Who was Kory to just assume anything… As she was talking her eyes looked down below in the alley. In the shadows. As she watched the battle unfold. It was quite the popcorn kind of scene. Action and Nightwing was bringing most of it. X'hal he looked good. Smiling. He knew she was watching. She could only ponder if that made any difference. A small cheer and soft giggle, before returning to the voice.
"As for Dick… He is in a manner of speaking… He's just a bit busy right now and might be for some time to come. You see we have bedroom plans. Well, he assumes bedroom, but it'll be a falls count anywhere match. If you like I can pass on a message for you? You are welcome to stay online with me, if you like, until he's not busy."
As honestly Kory could tell this woman without giving any of the finer details as to what Dick was exactly busy with. It was left open as to what he was busy with. Kory may have left it suggestive as to where the night was heading at least for them. Though of course Kory was meaning sleep when she was mentioning the bedroom. It was questionable when this night of battles would end, there was most likely one after this one before they could even think home time. Then Dick suggesting training night, really the chances of finding the bed for sleep was up in the air at that point. It was also her polite way of saying she wasn't sure when he wouldn't be busy. Giving the time. This woman might not want to wait however long it could take. Though Kory would defiantly very kindly pass on a message to Dick and ask him to call her back if she liked. Or wait on the phone, Kory didn't mind in the least. Though was still curious as to who she was talking to, whom apparently knew her name and voice.

Selina sighed. Kory was more than polite, even if her method of speaking was rather roundabout in some ways. Dick was out fighting. And later he would be sleeping with his girlfriend.
...isn't that what most paramours did? Did ...He do that?
Even the thought of it had her stomach twisting, the small amount of tea she had been able to choke down threatening to revisit her lips.
Was it jealousy? Disguist? She couldn't know. She didn't know. And she didn't exactly know how to voice it to Bruce Wayne's ward/adopted sidekick's girlfriend at the moment. Not to be rude. So she thought of a different way to put it.
"Ah. Well, I don't want to disrupt either of those plans. And as rude as it may be, I'd rather not say my name right now. Dick should know who it is. Just tell him...ah..it's about his father. He'll get back to me. I hope sooner, rather than later. And you two have fun after he's done with work. I did hear there was going to be some activity down at the docks as well. Might be good for the both of you."
Selina smiled wanely on her end of the phone. Hopefully, Dick would be smart enough to check the phone, and call her back. Even as her message was even more cryptic, she knew Nightwing had more than a fistful of wits in that skull of his.

There was little ways Kory wasn't just being herself. Her tamaranean self. How one took it, was up to them. She was Koriand'r. Whether the voice on the phone knew that or not. Kory couldn't know, but the voice seemed harmless enough. As she listened patiently through the near silence. What reasons did Kory have to fear? If she did, she would face it head on. Right now besides the mild action below, Kory felt rather peaceful. A little tired herself it had been a good titan day, but she felt nothing could touch her. Not now. In waiting for the voice. Kory did catch a sound from that end. A faint choking, maybe? Kory looked a little concerned. Was something wrong?
"Are you ok?"
Kory kindly asked, not out of prying into this mystery woman's life if she didn't want Kory there. Was a simple extension. It was just who Kory was and she did care. Maybe a little to much for some. She could feel there was something on the other end. She listened as the silence soon broke and the voice came back. Ok. It was a little discomforting not knowing who she was, but apparently she knew Kory. Right now, she was sure this would be Donna saying be careful, but Kory could feel the honesty in her voice. Kory couldn't jump to judgement. It wasn't right nor called for, but she would keep from saying to much. Maybe she was someone like them. As she watched Nightwing below. Whatever it was, Kory could respect the woman's wishes. It wasn't rude. It was probably a security thing. Kory wasn't going to question it and anyway Kory was loving the honesty. This was a call for Dick not Kory. She smiled softly, she shouldn't be surprised at a possible call for his advise or support.
"Oh… I understand, if you ever feel the need in time, then feel free. I'm not as scary as I sound."
The last little bit of her words was mostly a joke. As Kory's eyes watched Nightwing below, assuming he had told this woman about her. Just how much. So it was also a light way if he had mentioned to his woman that Kory was from another planet. That the woman didn't need to fear that, Kory knew the perceptions well from humans and it didn't overly bother her. They just didn't understand. Whenever this woman did feel comfortable, then Kory was here. If she was a friend of Dick's, then it said enough whether Kory could trust her or not. Kory's eyes brightened at the mention of his father. Wow. That didn't happen as much as Kory would expect and which she would indeed tell him.
"Oh, you knew Mr Grayson? I'll certainly make a point to tell Dick. Are you from Haly's circus? Do you have any stories, I feel I've heard them all, but I'm sure there are plenty more…"
It was defiantly a rare thing to hear of someone from Dick's past, the circus days so to speak and that knew his family. That was what Kory assumed when the woman said his father. Kory was more than aware of how much of it was still apart of Dick. So this, if hopefully was good news, Dick would want to hear about this. As she watched him below, the circus was never far gone from hi spirits. Now a lot of his natural ability to move. It was like dancing. He flowed. so beautifully. As Kory continued happily talking, in hopes to catch a story that may have slipped Dick's mind as she admired him from where she laid comfortably upon the statue. The images of him as kid half flooded her mind. Yes, a little giggles. He was even cuter then as he was now. Kory was a little excited, she was not one to live in the past, but she could defiantly admire what it was. Respect what it had done at least for Dick. Though as she listened. Letting her mind settle…
"Unless you mean Mr wayne? I'll make sure to tell Dick… Thank-you. Fun? Dick's not overly animated when he sleeps, but sure it can be enjoyable… Oh really? The docks? I'll let him know. It's been awhile since we've gone fishing."
Kory asked as it was possible the woman had meant Bruce. Dick's adoptive father. Just at that. With a glance in the sky, given her enhanced eye sight, could she just make out his signal in the sky? Or was it just the shape of the clouds? It was public that Bruce was Dick's adoptive father, but there was no telling whether this woman knew Batman or Nightwing. Kory wasn't in the place to just gush, she respected their need for protection. She added sweetly thanked her for her wishes, watching Dick sleep could be quite fun. Sometimes his dreams became a little to the surface. Whether more would happen tonight before sleep, Kory had no plans, Dick had been mentioning the lack of sleep. If not much fun tonight there be more time tomorrow. No pressure. As Kory smiled she was happy just with spending the time with him. She had things to tell involving the titans. There friends. Things to share. Kory felt it very sweet for the woman to suggest a place that could be fun? It was either a way around to suggest there will be a fight there or a party. There be some kind of dancing involved. Not knowing what it was, Kory just played on the fishing. She knew she was probably off point when she said fishing, though it seemed oddly fitting.. Not knowing what it is, they might be walking into or facing.

The girl was smart, and considerate. It was too bad she was headed down the incorrect path, and full steam ahead at that. Selina answered cordially, but without giving away much else.
"Thank you for asking, but not quite. I'll just look forward to a call in return. And yes, have fun at the docks, there should be more than enough fun activity to be had by all down there." Without encouraging much more, or as she denied answering the other questions about Bruce, the circus, or herself, she waited a breath more for the woman to talk, before she politely said goodbye and hung up her phone.
Taking the phone and throwing it at her bed, she signed. Even Dick was busy. And while she had hoped to speak with someone who would possibly understand, she knew that Dick had a life. And moreso had she been privy to see into that life as when his ...girlfriend slash partner was manning his phone. Even the thought of someone...else answering her phone squicked her out as she thought about it, and glanced out the window to Gotham's twilit skyline.

The silence loomed again on the phone. As Kory remained in spot upon the statue with the rather beast like face. Certainly the last place one would look to find the tamaranean princess. As her eyes danced below. Still in mystery as to whom exactly was on the phone. After all it would be questionable what name Dick would have had it listed on his phone, given the chances of someone else snatching his phone. From all Kory could guess she seemed a pleasant woman, nothing but a few breadcrumbs, maybe in time. In time. Kory smiled sweetly as the voice came back to her ears. Before looking with a bit more concern again at the woman's reply. She wasn't ok? It defiantly wasn't something Kory liked to here and she could be anywhere. How could Kory help?
"Oh no! Is there anyway I could possibly help? I'll defiantly make sure to give Dick the 911. If push comes to shove I'll pry the keyboard from his hands… Oh wow, fun, well if you say so and who knows with this weather we might need a place to cool off. Thank-you for the tip… Your more than welcome to keep talking with me, I'm rather enjoying the company, but I understand if your unwell. Maybe we meet soon?"
Kory offered. It seemed the natural thing to do from her large capacity to love and to care. Is it possible to care to much, because Kory was close. If this was only something Dick could help with then she'd defiantly make sure Dick calls her back. Especially now it sounded more like an emergency. Kory could take over the work load if needed, but from what Kory could tell he had things handled very nicely. At the few times this woman said fun in regards to the docks, defiantly had Kory interested even if Kory wasn't sure what it was they were meant to expect to see there, but as she lightly suggested. Taking a swim could always be a nice way to end… Oh well maybe not that water. It was questionable how much of it was water, but they could defiantly check it out. This was the point Kory wasn't sure if it was the hanging up part, she was rather enjoying the conversation even if half of it she wasn't sure she was getting, but to simply suggest with that was all, seemed more than just rude. If the woman wanted to talk more then Kory was all ears and well tongue in some regards. But of course Kory could understand feeling the woman was unwell, the last thing she probably wanted to do was a lot of talking. As Kory pleasantly suggested they maybe meet soon. Anything could happen.

Selina contemplated the woman's final words. She was being helpful, of course, but Selina didn't feel the need to talk more. So she had hung up the phone, tossed it with a rather passionate motion onto her bed, and sat at her desk. There really wasn't much more to talk about. She -could- talk to Nina. She should discuss things with Nina, considering she was supposed to be redezvous'ing with Batman to draw up specific dossiers on ...well, everyone.
Sighing, Selina shook her head, and reached a hand down to pet the soft bundle of fur rubbing at her chair.
"Well, Jasper, I guess, much like a cat is independant, this is something we're doing on our own..." She murmured, before going to retrieve her phone, and shoot a text, yet again...
....To Be Continued...
