He liked her. – [Goddammit.] – He really did. As Jason thought about that, he got even angrier, and increased the speed on his new but already heavily modified Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14 as he raced for GU. After his adventure with Sparrow two weeks before, they had kept in touch and learned some about each other, even going on a couple of patrols. Not that he could’ve stopped her from picking information from his mind – though the vigilante was working on that – nor could she stop him from using some of his tech to uncover her personal life. But the most important aspect about that situation was that he started thinking about her, and increasingly more as the days went by, to the point there were no more questions about it: Jason Todd liked Brook Copper. He wasn’t sure how to deal with that, in the past women had simply jumped him, and the one relationship he got out of that fact had been started by exactly it. The vigilante had no idea how to go about it on his own, just feeling kind of embarrassed when trying to think of that, or even if he should attempt to start something with that fierce blonde at all. And now he was going to meet her, which just made all of it a lot worse, face-to-face she’d be able to read his mind and that’d be it. – [God. Damn. It.] – But there was no escaping this meeting, because the reason he had just ran yet another red light was that Jason was in a race against Snake’s men. A hit on Brook had been ordered. The vigilante had picked that information up a couple of hours ago, when doing his routine check of Snake’s many frequencies to know who were going to be his marks that night. The higher-ups had passed the order down, though they didn’t bother to inform who she was or anything about her other than the fact they needed her dead.
“Today’s not a good day to make me angry…” – He wasn’t Red Hood at the moment, as it was still the middle of the day, instead going with a regular outfit with a zipped-up reinforced black jacket and lead-padded biker gloves; a lighter and more discreet version of his Belt that had a couple shurikens of different types and some bombs; some black-bladed ka-bar knives, and a pair of subcompact Glock 27s on a torso harness. As he neared the University, Jason let the speed fall to a more discreet one, pressing a button on the dashboard that swapped his plates, eventually entering GU’s parking lot without drawing much attention to himself and making his way towards the best spot to watch her building without being obvious. The vigilante then withdrew his cellphone, which was receiving a lot of the routines he let his equipment performing - mostly the tracking down of personal info on everyone that had mentioned Brook, and erasing every record about her, since once this was done he’d have to hunt and kill all who knew until her identity was forgotten again. After a few presses he got the location on Brook’s cell’s GPS. She was in class, great. He decided to wait then, keeping an eye out for any weird activity.
After what seemed like hours – but were actually a couple dozen minutes – a black car with extremely dark windows rolled up, and the vigilante’s danger alarm immediately went off. He started the Kawasaki, opening his jacket and waiting until they parked not too far from him before revving the bike up and taking off with a little too much speed for a parking lot, rounding them from the back and hitting the car’s side as he “tried” to brake, being lightly thrown off. These guys were so predictable, they couldn’t just ignore him and keep their eyes on the prize, and as the back door on his side opened up, Jason already had both his hands on the tools he’d be using. A bald guy on a cheap black suit, pretty heavy, started stepping out with rather obvious intentions, but by then Jason had already put the blade through his temple, pushing him back inside with a fragmentation-bomb as a souvenir and closing the door. Everything was bullet-proof, the vigilante knew just by looking, and that’s exactly why none of the shrapnel made it out once the explosive went off and took out everyone inside before they got a chance to properly react. And that was that. Feeling pleased with himself, he then went back to his bike, getting ready to move to a spot with less dead gangsters to wait for the blonde, but as he did so the vigilante noticed a black SUV coming the same way the other car had. – [You gotta be kidding me.] – He watched as these guys parked a few spots away from the car, and killed the engine. At least it didn’t seem like they were gonna go over to the other vehicle anytime soon, maybe there was an agreed time to act. Whatever the case, that meant he had to move now.
After parking the Kawasaki away from the two sets of trash, Jason made his way to Brook’s building, starting to focus more on the fact that he’d be seeing her real soon with each step. He wasn’t ready for that. His heart started beating faster as he cursed this feeling, and it felt like everyone that passed by was staring at him. – [Goddammit.] – Did he look good enough? Would she be happy to see him? Or would she immediately pick up on those thoughts and just feel annoyed? More importantly, shouldn’t he focus on the fact there were actual armed criminals waiting outside to try to assassinate the blonde? – [Yeah, definitely that last one. Focus, Jason, not the first girl you’ve ever met.] – But it was the first girl he’d liked in that particular way. Pushing that away from his mind as best as possible, he finally reached her classroom, forcing his pulse and breathing down and pocketing the cellphone once again. – “Excuse me.” - The vigilante courageously stepped inside, ignoring the tens of eyes that shifted to him and the professor as he quickly spotted her – thinking she was even cuter than he remembered and getting angry at himself at the same time – and made his way to her seat. – “Hi, we gotta go.” – He gave her a meaningful look, avoiding the amazing color in her eyes and trying to focus on how laughably perfect they were. That didn’t really help. – [Snake’s men are here. Got your schedule I think, got your name and how you look, and want you dead. They’re outside on an SUV, I don’t want to shoot it out in here, wouldn’t end well no matter how it ended.] – Hopefully that’d be enough, but they really didn’t have the time to wait, so Jason took her hand – gently – and helped her up, taking her bag and pulling her along as he headed for the door. Admittedly so she couldn’t directly look at his face, as he was blushing like a school-girl, working hard to keep it all professional.
Suddenly, some random guy blocked the duo’s path. The guy was tall and looked like an athlete, maybe football, and his body-language meant he was ready to put that to good use. – “Hey, what the hell do you think you’re doing?” – He obviously had a problem with the way Jason was dealing that situation, but that wasn’t what angered the vigilante the most. The way the guy said it, the way he looked at Brooke, or maybe just the way paranoia got under the vigilante’s skin, made him sure that the guy was interested in her. Today, however, wasn’t a good day to mess with someone that could kill a whole lot of people with his bare hands, especially about that specific girl. Wanting to hit the jock as hard as he could, with his teeth locked tight, and still angry at those losers outside waiting for her but mostly at his own stupidity, Jason turned to the miniature blonde, hoping she attributed his redness to anger. – “Can we go?” – He lifted both his hands so everyone could see. The last thing he needed was to punch-out every single student there, especially because he was in his real identity. Though he’d do it if he had to.
