Will you walk into my parlour?’ said the spider to the fly, ‘ ’Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy, The way into my parlour is up a winding stair, And I’ve got many curious things to show when you are there.’ ‘Oh, no, no,’ said the little fly, ‘to ask me is in vain, For whoever goes up your winding stair can ne’er come down again.’
The Blue Honda Civic was normal. Nice paint job but nothing to catch your eye. Scratched back window but still fairly well kept. It sat in the park’s parking area right in view of a small bench. Inside however was a short man with a hat that made him seem almost a foot taller. Hatter straightened his suit coat in the rear view mirror but it was still hideously marked and stained. He was still an awful sight no matter how he adjusted himself. His appearance still seemed hideous and grotesque.
“Twas Brilling in the slithy toves Did Gyre and gimble in the wabe..” he sung to himself as he adjusted his hat and formerly white gloves. The car was a used one. It was owned formerly by a family of 4 (the remains of which are tightly sealed in the trunk.) He grabbed a tea cup from a cup holder and sipped it. He wiped his mouth on his sleeve and squeeled with joy. “Today’s the big day!” He chortled to a thin white rabbit in the passenger seat. The rabbit wore a magnificent gold watch around himself (How he didn’t fall over from the weight is surprising.) Hatter grabbed the watch as all the color drained from his face. “Oh my Mr. Rabbit! Dearest Alice is...is LATE!” he shouted. This was quite odd as in all the time Hatter followed Alice not once was she late when she visited the park “Late! Late! Oh my she’s never ever late!” he grabs the rabbit and strokes its fur. A look of panic swallows his face as he looks out the windows.

Alice checked her watch as she left class, and frowned. She was late...she had a friend that she was hoping to meet at the park, but she doubted that friend would be there by the time she arrived. She sighed, but decided that regardless of whether her friend was there or not, she could still enjoy a good book on the usual bench in the park. ~~~ Alice ignored the cement walk, choosing to wander through the flower patches in the grass beside it instead. This was one of the reasons why she loved coming to the park. It was beautiful, and reminded her of home. Sure enough, her classmate had already gone. Ah well, she would just explain when they got back from the weekend break. She sat down on the bench, and pulled out the newest book she had found in the library. She hardly noticed anything else around her, losing herself in the pages of a many-times-read adventure..

The park seemed grey. No Alice no happiness. Hatter looked in the rear view mirror and carelessly adjusted his tie. It looked warped and twisted. Oh well he had no Alice to impress. He stroked the rabbit’s fur. “Twinkle…..twinkle little Bat…. How I wonder what you’re at…” he sung in a low funeral like march. His eyes glanced up at the small sun through a clearing in the endless plane of grey in the sky. The sun vanished from view. It was gone oh dear, the eternal darkness of a world with no Alice has begun. But the sun had not vanished. Hatter felt joy fill his body. The sun was back. A beautiful blonde woman blotted it for merely a second. Hatter’s face was replaced by a smile. “Oh my! Mr. Rabbit, Alice has showed up.” Hatter said to the thin rabbit who began foaming at the mouth. A small adjustment of the hat, creasing of the coat, and roll of the sleeves and Hatter was ready. He swung open the car door and grabbed a cup of tea. The Park was all but abandoned. This specific side was nearly empty with one or two people off in the distance near the pond were a few street vendors and musicians who were annoyed by the lack of passerby’s today. He waltzed up to alice and snatched the book out of her hands. “ Please Alice dear. Have a spot of tea instead of reading our story.” He tossed it into the flower bed and grabbed Alice’s hand in a loving gesture ( while practically crushing her hand. “I know you're eager to play but let’s talk in a more.....private place with less threat of.....witnesses is one way to put it.” He said in a very hastily rushed sentence.

Alice had been lost in another world when suddenly, the book disappeared from her hands, with someone saying her name, and she was staring at a man who looked very oddly like the Hatter from Wonderland..but different. He seemed in a hurry, but she didn't understand why, nor why he thought she would rather go with him than read her book.
She blinked as he grabbed her hand, flinching as he held it too tightly. "I'm sorry...who are you? And where would we be going?"
Alice wasn't sure who he was, or what he meant by play. And how had he known her name? He had said something about tea..one of her weaknesses was tea. But she wasn't about to say this to him..not until he introduced himself. She also wanted to retrieve her book. Alice in Wonderland was a gift from Father...she didn't want it ruined.

“Alice….do you not remember?” Hatter’s eyes grew large and distant. The distant conversations in the background seemed to be filled with curious and shocked voices. They had seen them. “Alice did someone break you? Ruin your memory I…..I can’t……” He furiously stated sputtering madly. “It’s not your fault you have been harmed but….. come with me to the car. I can’t be out here or else the ‘witnesses’ might get suspicious and mistake me taking you home as..” He started. He heard sirens. “They’ll take you!” He pulled her tugging on her arm with all his might. “I’ll have to fix you later not here no..no.” He dropped the teacup and pulled out a small hand gun.
It was foolish to come out in public to get Alice and Hatter knew it. Someone should have picked her up or he should have waited ‘till she was in private. His pale face grew even more pale as the sirens got clearer and clearer. He looked at the vendors and few park visitors near the pond. He pointed his gun as they had their attention towards them. “If I let you go you’ll run…. And White rabbit and I will be lonely once more.” He whispered just so she could hear it. “I don’t want to hurt you…. Alice I know you don’t remember like I do b-but. ” A clump formed in his throat “don’t run..” he let go.

Alice stared at the gun. That was the first thing that registered in her mind. A gun....never in her life had she thought she would be in a situation like this. The second thing that she acknowledged were the names...White Rabbit? This man was clearly speaking about Wonderland...but..why did he have a gun? And why did he want her to go with him?
His next words also confused her. Broken...what was he talking about? She knew two things for certain. One, this man, this Hatter, had a gun, and two, there were people around that could get hurt. She made a quick decision. When he let go, she didn't move. She simply stood there, looking at him. She would play his game, if it kept the other people safe.
"I'll go with you, Hatter. Just put the gun away, please. It scares me. And the Cheshire might be around...you just can't see him.m If you shoot the gun, you might hit him. And then we would be sad because Wonderland would have no Cheshire Cat. And no grin."
Alice hoped her decision to play along would work, and that things would get back under control...if not, things were probably going to get bad very quickly.

Hatter shook his head.”They want to take you from me..” He whispered. Hatter pulled the trigger.
Bang.
A street musician was dead.
Bang….Bang.
A woman was dead and so was a heroic street vendor who pushed a child aside.
Screams filled the air and police sirens grew closer. The citizens ran from the park. Hatter looked grim and the obvious look of solace painted his face.“Alice…I’m sorry but they were looking at us… and well I lost you once already..” He franticly holstered the gun. “Cheshire was at risk but we were lucky. I’m sorry.” He ran towards the car. “Let’s go.” Cheerfulness returned to his face. His eyes glistened with happiness. Alice was coming home! Tea was to be had and joy would fill his life once more. “Oh my! March Hare will be so pleased!”

Alice was, to say the least, stunned. She simply stood, staring, in shock. No thoughts entered her mind, no words came. She couldn't move, nor could she tear her eyes away from the sight of the people who, a few moments ago, had been alive. Dead...they were dead..? Her mind was trying to figure this out, but things were too much to comprehend right that minute.
How had this happened? What had just happened? Did this really just happen? Or is it a nightmare, or something brought on by being out in the sun too long? She had never had any issues with being out in the sun for a long time before, but her mind, still stunned, reminded her there was a first for everything. This was all to much to take in at once. And then she simply stopped thinking.
In fact, everything stopped. Her mind, her sight, everything; Alice sank to her knees on the sidewalk, and then she fell over, slowly, a brief sharp pain flashing through her head, hitting the ground as she blacked out.
