How long had this been going on? He can’t keep doing this. The man could work himself to death at this rate. I know how serious the matter is. Maybe I should have stepped things up a bit...He hasn’t been doing anything but patrolling the streets and keeping himself locked away in the cave for days now. Maybe even weeks. Traveling after him with the FBI in town was hard enough. I don’t see how the kid made it out of here. I should have done more. I should have kept a closer eye on him. The kid was a ticking time bomb. And now this. I spend one night out and then he goes missing. But I can only image how Bruce is taking this. I don’t know where to begin to describe how guilty I feel for losing track of him. But of all this...is he even still alive.....
Dick entered the Batcave unannounced and possible unwelcome at this point. His Nightwing suit still on as he pulled in with his motorcycle. After a patrol, no doubt. Not there for a cheery visit what so ever. The expression on his face was one of solum, guilt, and concern.
He hadn’t talk to Bruce in weeks. He’d lost track after a week and a half. Bruce had barely said two words too him since he had gotten back from the mission in China. And Dick hadn’t said more to him besides when Jason have went missing. He had contacted him hours after Jason went M.I.A. He had been asked to do a night sweep patrol. Nothing more.
And what does the kid do...Hightail it out of town without any communications. Taking as much gear with him as possible. And escaping the borders of the city. Jason could be any where. There was no telling what the kid had gotten himself into. And he had taken care to disengage any tracking devices that were carried with him.
Dick has searched frantically for any trace of him the night of him not coming back from the patrol. He had worked endless in between having to stand in for Bruce and his own life, checking cameras and keeping it on the down low beside the Bat-family.
He had even gone as far as contacting some of his old teammates to keep and eye out for him. But nothing had turned up beside a few small traces of Jason on the move up state.
Dick shut the engine off to the bike, parking it not too far off from the Batmobile. The click of the kickstand coming down and the bike being settled echo throughout the cave. Dick sat on the motorcycle. Silent and looking on through his helmet to the sight of Bruce sitting at the main computer with the world map up and tracking the movement of sights where Robin has been spotted in Europe.
Dick still couldn’t believe Jason had made it that far at first without being traced. But Batman had more contacts out there and knew people and got some answers. But the trail had gone cooled after hi had made it toward Russia and headed through Turkey. Where was Jason headed? And why?
Call after call and trying to drop in only to find now trace of answer from Bruce, Dick had tried to get more involved. He had been searching on his own at home. But he felt like his help was much unwanted by Bruce. The weight of the world being carried on one man’s shoulders.
Dick removed his helmet and set it on the bike as he removed his mask as well. Getting up from the bike, he walked toward the batcomputer system and mainframe. Not a word being spoken. Just the sound of his foot fall against the flooring.
He felt like he had been completely blocked out since Bruce had dove head first into this alone. Not talking to anyone. Even Alfred had been concerned enough to call Dick. And Dick had kept him up to date with his own researching and tracking. Even the motorcycle tracker had been defused by Jason. He obviously did not want to be tracked down or helped.
Dick had some valuable information on that bike. He had codes only he could remember and signals as well. Though the scans and traces had come up empty. But maybe if he could get Bruce to let him help...maybe this time something would come up.
”Bruce, Alfred called me. He’s worried about you. Even Barbara has contacted me because she knows something is off lately,” Dick started to say as he had been standing in silence behind the man in the chair. But he had kept his distance. Not sure if he wanted to test the waters for alligators. He merely was throwing a stone to test the reaction of the calm still waters that seemed dangerous in it’s silence.
And after facing silence, he'd toss the stone that might cause the current to rage. "Bruce...Let me help."
