"Hmm, you can't share a secret and not expect Batman to find out about it," Hawkgirl agrees. That, above all else, is what sets his skills apart from those of the rest of the Justice League. They all have their particular talents, but none of them has quite the same knack for gathering minute details and making something of them as Batman. She just feels lucky that he hasn't ever seemed at all interested in her past.
Listening to the rest of what he has to say, Hawkgirl nods grimly, "Yes, between the impersonation and that hostage - sounds like a trap to me. And if you don't show you die; a victory for him either way." She shakes her head. You'd think that after all this time she'd be used to the lengths criminals will go to, but no.
Though she purses her lips when he mentions the number of suspects, and she asks, "How many of them are not too tall, not to short, not too young, not too old, not too thin, not too fat, have a some fighting ability, etc. to pull off a close likeness of you? And have the resources and money to copy your suit? Whatever it was made of, it even moves like yours. In addition to the number of men and other stuff needed to pull off what happened at the museum? Even on a security tape my eyes aren't easy to fool - use that as your clue and I think that list would narrow down pretty quickly."
"And speaking of my eyes - I really want to find this guy too. We should work together; because if I have any clues where to look, he wouldn't be able to set one foot outside dressed like you without being spotted," she adds confidently. Then again, figuring out where is always the tricky part; that's what she's not particularly good at. But once it can be narrowed down, everything from finding them to handing them over the authorities is usually a piece of cake to her by comparison. And when it isn't - well, that usually just means that she had more fun.

"Yeah, one of the many problems you face if you doesn't keep something a secret," Dick replied to her comment on keeping things from Batman. There was no getting anything pass that guy. If you were recovering from an injury and didn't show much sign of it, he would still pick up on it either with a glance or he had heard about it somewhere down the line.
Dick listened to her as she said it was a trap and a win for the guy either way. "But what I don't get it how they found out. Isley didn't seem like the type to go around bragging about what she has accomplished. Beside when you have an encounter with one of her mutant plant," he said. After a few meeting with her she never really seemed to follow the rogue crowd of Gotham. "She's not the average run of the mill crook like some of the psycho in Gotham. She doesn't seem to associate with the other rogues. She had definitely been able to keep a very low profile on anyone's radar. That's what makes her crimes so successful."
Dick thought about what she was asking him about a suspect. He went through his mind and the mental pictures of many gang leaders. "Anyone like Two-Face and Thorn are out of the question. And Black Mask doesn't stand a chance. But any of them could have easily just hired someone to pull of this stunt. That would be my look on things. It's easier to frame someone else when you have the money to do it," Dick replied. Still thinking through the possible list of suspects. There had been so many people he had taken down lately with gang related records.
It was going to be hard to narrow it down, unless there was one standing factor that set things apart. "There is another gang leader in the ranks now a days. But their isn't much known about him. He is much younger then the more common crook leaders. And I have managed to have a few run ins with his crowd. Especially the big operation I shut down at the docks a while back," Dick recalled.
After she suggested teaming up and being able to find the guy, Dick gave a slight shrug. More in agreement than anything else. "I don't think I could turn down the help. You have a huge advantage over me when it comes to keeping eye over the city," Dick gave a slight smile and looked at her wings.
And then for a moment got a bit serious. "And at this point, I'm in no position to be denying the help. I never thought that things would turn out this way when it had all started," Dick admitted honestly. He hated looking like he couldn't things, but there wasn't much time. If he had more information himself, he would have taken the chance. But with the sudden attack on his name and the hostage, he didn't have time to argue.

Nodding to his comments on Isley, Hawkgirl adds, "Though it seems obvious that there would be some sort of connection between the kidnapper and Isley, you're right that it still seems... odd. Though I'd certainly look more closely at anyone who may know her, I wouldn't eliminate anyone as a suspect based on that."
She also nods to what he says about suspects. She doesn't know the criminals of Gotham very well - this isn't her city - but anyone trained by Batman would not only know him but also have a good head for sorting through the limited clues. And Hawkgirl is certainly not good at that herself; she'd good at looking at someone's actions and interpreting their overall strategy based on them, not actually understanding the individual. And her perception, both in what she can get from her senses and how she interprets that information, is also a talent.
"Age may certainly be key - I'll eat my helmet if our guy is over thirty. Though if he's working for someone else he'd be high up in their ranks; on the scene he was in charge. Even if he was meant to look like he was calling the shots, if someone else was giving orders then I'd have seen it in the movements of the others. Which is also why I doubt he was hired specifically for this purpose," she notes. Which ought to be another big help shortening the list because it normally takes time and therefore age to be on or near the top - those that are that young and in that position would be fewer in number.
When he agrees to her help without a fuss, Hawkgirl nods but on the inside she's a bit relieved. Batman is firmly the 'I'll tell you if I need help' type and she's glad that Nightwing isn't. Clearly he may be a little too in over his head. "You narrow it down for me, and I'll find him for you," she says with a nod. That's what their different strengths would suggest, anyway. "And I'll leave Isley to you unless there's something specific I can do for you there - obviously that's a more delicate situation," she adds; Hawkgirl does not do delicate.

"You have a point on that one with him running the show it seems," Dick replied to her comment on how the ranking seemed to play out in the operation that had gone down that night. This wasn't the first time people have tried something like this. But it was a first for him seeing someone who had been able to pull it off so well that even the vigilantes that knew him seemed to be questioning him on the action. Well at least the ones that never seemed to trust the Bat-family as much so. He didn't blame them on that. Batman wasn't exactly welcoming to all the heroes and other vigilantes that tried to join in.
Even though working with the Justice League, Bruce still seemed to keep himself separate from most of the situations. They came to him and he'd help them. But he never really asked for anyone else's help. The exact reasons Nightwing was to proud to be asking for help. But unlike Bruce, Dick knew how to work as a team with others. He hadn't been with the Titans all that time if he hadn't been able to. Dick had lead them all the time he had been there. There was no question that Nightwing was a good leader and able to work on his feet when something was thrown at him.
When you were raised with the Bat, there were still things you couldn't shake after all those years. For one the whole not showing any sign of weakness in emotion. And keeping secrets from others, thinking it was for their own good. Yeah, and look how that always turned out, but yet it was still something they all seemed to do. Each one in the Bat-family strive for perfection in what they did. Not letting up even if it were to kill them. They seemed to be equally stubborn, though more so in different ways.
"Right," Dick responded. "I'll have to try and go through my computer systems and double check over anything and everything that could help out in this situation. There's just been so much going on lately, that some groups seem to be merging with others. I'll try and run a thorough search through any criminal record that might fit what we are looking for. I have a few suspects, but some are lower key in the underground world yet seem to make a rather large dent in it,"
He wished he had been able to do a search now on the streets, but the best thing it seemed to be to do at the time was try and dig up the information and narrow down the suspects. He listened to her about the how thing on Isley. "That, I am not so such how much longer I can stay patient with the situation. So, I'd keep alert to that if I were you. I just might need that extra push to get through with," Dick stated. "I'm getting rather tired of this game with having my strings being pulled by her. I'm just not sure just how to hand her at the moment. She's not making this situation easy for a reason."

Nodding to that, Hawkgirl comments, "It's hard for anyone to hide from me, especially if I know exactly who I'm looking for. You just give me a short list and I'll find the people on it. Though the shorter the better, since we're on a time limit." If there's one game that Hawkgirl is good at, it's hide and seek. She's quite certain that now her attention is focused on this Nightwing impersonator that she'll find him soon in any case, but given Dick's problem she'll have to do everything she can to quicken the process for his sake. Having the better part of a week to do this actually sounds like a decent time frame to her, but with likely multiple people's lives at risk she doesn't want to take any chances.
When he comments further on his problem with Isley, at first Hawkgirl is reluctant to venture an opinion. He's still leaving out little bits of information, she's not accustomed to playing such indirect games, and it's his life he'd be risking trying to do anything to get himself out of it. However, she does have a few bits of advice that she thinks can't hurt. "When a situation seems hopeless it's usually because you're taking something for granted: there's something you're taking as a fact that isn't true, some option you've rejected as impossible that isn't, or some method that you only didn't think of because it isn't your normal approach. But there's always something," she comments. She falls victim to the latter frequently herself, usually in situations where being subtle or sneaky is the best option.

Dick thought about what she had said. He was a bit stumped, but it reminded him all too well of the situation he had left himself in. He just couldn't think straight at the moment. His mind racing with so much that had gone on it the past few hours that night. And everything he had been hiding.
"Sometimes I wish things would just solve themselves," Dick commented. "But I know that won't happen." If only things came that simple to his mind. He always seemed to work things over at times, making more of them with such little to work with. Some days he wondered what a normal life was life. But then again, he wouldn't give up the one he had.
"I appreciated the help," Dick said with a half smile. "I only hope we don't have to reach the end of the limit in this case." His gaze fell for a second. The hard truth had been hitting him hard since this happened. Before it was walking on eggshells and not it was trying to get through a minefield. Between the police, FBI, and the threat on his life. It was a difficult time for him.

Giving a short nod to that, Hawkgirl detaches something from her belt and tosses it at Nightwing, saying, "Catch." Between her superhuman abilities and her mace she hardly has need of all the fancy equipment regular humans need to fight crime in this way, but there are a few things that are nice to keep handy. What she threw to Nightwing is a short, slender cylinder with a button on one end and a clip on the side to make it easy to carry. "It's a communicator that ties into my League earpiece. Push the button once to turn it on, again to turn it off, talk into the other end: simple," she explains. A useful thing to keep around for if she needs to keep in contact with someone outside of the League.
Then she smirks and adds, "I used some Thanagarian tricks in the design - feel free to take it apart when you don't need it anymore." She may not know the Bat family other than Batman very well at all, but she does know they're into gadgets. And she may not be good with words of sympathy or encouragement, but she's all too happy to talk as if success here is a foregone conclusion.

Dick saw that Hawkgirl was going after something on her belt. It wasn't until she threw it to him that he could figure out what it was. He caught the small device in both hands, careful not to drop it. He looked at the small device in his hand as she explained how to use it and what it did.
"Thanks," Dick said as he continued to examine the device a bit more. It interested him a bit how different it was from his own com links he had designed. He had never seen the ones the league had. He wasn't sure if Batman had one. If he had something like that from the league, he never said anything about it.
Then again, when someone from the league wanted his held, they often seemed to stop by the Batcave and ask for it. They had been the few people, well aliens and meta-humans to know Batman's biggest secret. So, it had not been uncommon for on of them to come to Bruce Wayne in person in their own secret identities. Though, Dick knew how Bruce had felt about having to share his identity with more vigilantes. But over time, he had learned to trust some or most of them.
Dick placed the device into one of the compartments on his gauntlets. "I appreciate the help," Dick responded, rubbing the back of his head again. Just a nervous habit. He was better at thanking people than Batman had ever been. If he needed help, he'd ask for it when he thought it called for it. To Bruce, that was rare.

What Hawkgirl gave him is nothing like the League's communicators - they're much more sophisticated. Her little device simply piggybacks onto its frequency, allowing her to communicate with someone besides the League using the same equipment so that she doesn't have to juggle multiple ways of talking to people. Still, it's very compact for it's range and quality - much better than standard human technology. It would probably have been even better if she'd had access to some proper Thanagarian machinery to make a few of the parts, but it serves it's purpose.
Batman, of course, has his own League communicator, but as far as Hawkgirl can surmise he only uses the thing in the very rare event that he decides that he needs their help. At any other time she's guessing that he stashes the thing away in some remote corner because if someone else decides that they need his help, trying to contact him with it never works. But he's a part-timer so he can get away with that, and at least he always turns up when it's the entire world at stake.
Nodding again, Hawkgirl says, "Just do me a favor, and let me know when and where you're going to be out and about so there isn't another case of mistaken identity." Though she smirks as she says that, there's no danger of a repeat of what happened here due to that. Her eyes are sharp enough that the other guy would have to be his very identical twin for that to happen, though she'd like to avoid the annoyance of thinking she's spotted her quarry from afar only to recognize Dick when she gets a bit closer.

Dick gave a smile after her comment. He knew he didn't want to see how much harder she could hit if she did have another run in with him. One time had been enough for him to learn to make sure people knew who he was.
"I will. And I'll make sure it doesn't happen again," he gave a light laugh over what had gone down that night to lead them to this. He knew she would probably recognize him by now. But still it was confusing having two Nightwing out and about in the city at the same time. Though, Dick had yet to catch up with the other.
If Dick did catch up with the impostor, he was going to make sure he paid for the crime he had committed. No one was allowed to run around and make Nightwing look like a murderer. And he had to find Isley. He would have to make sure he went over everything he could remember and think about that could have caused this all.
"I'll make sure to contact you if I found anything out about who our guy might be. It might be hard to narrow it down seeing as it could have been someone from long ago. I'll have to check through criminal records and mug shots, any information I can think of that might help to narrow our search," he said.

When Hawkgirl is using her full strength she's easily capable of killing a normal human, and there are few things that can stand against her when she's using her mace. But she's still doesn't have Superman's problem; that of being so strong that killing someone by accident is a worry. Mainly she just has to avoid using her mace when her bare hands will do, and not put her back into her blows if she wants whoever she's fighting to survive the experience.
With Dick she was actually being careful, though if he'd fought back that wouldn't have lasted, but as sure as she was that she'd found her man she's also one to give anyone she can an opportunity to see who they're dealing with and thus a chance to surrender. And though this situation didn't quite work out that way, it does demonstrate why that's a good policy.
She nods once more to his words, saying, "In the meantime I'll keep my eye on the likely places - the warehouse district, the dockyards... I might get lucky. Or run into someone who knows something." One thing Hawkgirl likes about working in Gotham is that so many criminals mistake her for the type of person who they'd better talk to or else. Which is absolutely not the case - she frowns upon those methods actually - but given her aggressive nature and the fact that the criminals around here expect that kind of treatment it's an easy mistake to make and she's all too happy to exploit that. Even if it is a bit hypocritical. But informing criminals that she won't hurt them if they don't answer her questions isn't her style either.
"I'll let you know if I find out anything solid," she adds, and with that she turns to leave. Standing around talking for too long, even when it's helpful, makes Hawkgirl feel restless - especially when she's on someone's trail. Even when the odds are against it working, when she's looking for someone and has no leads she feels as if she's actually making progress if she literally goes out and looks.
