The Joker shrugged boredly towards Nightwing. "I like playing games, Bat Dork. When you finally become man enough to step out of Batman's shadow, then maybe I'll give you some answers." He laughed deafeningly. "I mean, how pathetic is it that you not only leave Batman, but basically rip off his costume? Just admit it, you're nothing."
He stood mere centimeters away from the black and blue vigilante, not backing down even in the slightest. "You'll never be anything more than little Bird Brain, chasing after Batgirl who is more interested in Batman than in you." He felt the laughter bubbling inside of him as he continued to push.
"What is it? Did he not let you stay up past your bed time? Made you eat your broccoli? Ooh! I know! He finally realized that you just couldn't cut it. Heheheheh... pretty pathetic that some red headed bimbo keeps her job while you get kicked to the curb. I wonder if maybe he did it so you wouldn't suspect Batsy and Batgirl were spending some 'one on one' time alone in the cave?"
His eyes were sharped as he stared down the raven haired vigilante. His body bounced up and down with pent up laughter as he just hoped that Nightwing would cave. "You're suffocating in the shadow of the Bat. If it weren't pathetic, I'd find it funny. Oh... heck... I'll laugh anyways... HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAA!!"

Dick watched the clown as he spoke. The words starting to burn in Dick's mind. The Joker was really pushing his luck now. Dick's fiery eyes watched the clown narrowly. His shoulder muscles started to tighten up. This clown just didn't know when to quit.
He was becoming more enraged over the fact that the clown was comparing him to the Batman. Dick wasn't Bruce. And he was never going to be. All that he had done was of his own free will. He didn't need to stand here and take this. Yet, there he was, standing his ground.
And now he was dragging Batgirl into the fight again. Dick knew the truth to false information the Joker was giving. No one talked about Batgirl like that. And no one would lower Nightwing to just another Bat copy.
His eyes followed the clown as he bounced up and down. He knew it was coming, but he didn't care. He had just about had it. And at Joker's last words, Dick glared at the clown before him. As the clown laughed, Nightwing lunged forward at the clown socking him in the face with his right fist and grabbing the collar of the straight jacket. Then turned, slamming the Joker into the wall.
Dick held the Joker pinned against the wall. His right forearm pressed against the Joker's chest hard. His eyes burning with anger. "Listen up clown! You may think what you want, but don't ever compare me to the Bat and say I'm nothing," Dick growled.
"As a matter of fact, I'm the one who made the decisions to leave, not the Bat," Dick continued as he pressed the Joker harder into the wall. "I'm not the one who is pathetic here! Have you looked in the mirror lately? I'm not the one who is obsessed with the Batman," he snarled. If he could burn with the look he was giving, the Joker would be on fire.

A small cut appeared on the Joker’s pale white cheek as Nightwing connected with a powerful right hook, finally giving the sadistic clown exactly what he wanted. He didn’t put up a fight as Nightwing slammed him against the wall, nor did he try to wriggle out of his hold as he began to crush his chest. He burst into laughter as he tasted his own blood roll down his cheek and into his mouth.
“If you don’t want to be compared to him, then don’t dress like him bird boy. Besides, I’m not the one lashing out in anger because ‘I’m not like Batman’.” His tone was mocking as his smile continued to grow. This was exactly what he wanted. It was all what he wanted. “You’re the one proving yourself here, Nightwing. What happened to it not being my business, hmm?” He laughed uncontrollably.
This was too perfect. It would only be better if Batman were here to witness it. “The real question is, have you looked in the mirror? You want to claim your independence from the bat, but you look like a ninja-Bat. Lame, if you ask me.” He finally uncrossed his arms; he had unstrapped the straight jacket at the beginning of their conversation, merely waiting for the right moment.
In one swift movement, Joker moved to push the vigilante away, who had gotten too close, and tried to wrap one of the elongated sleeves around his throat to suffocate him. It didn’t matter if he succeeded or not; if Nightwing didn’t get out, one of the guards would be in momentarily to secure him again. This was merely a message; Nightwing had made a mistake. One that Batman wouldn’t have made.

Through heavy deep breathes, Dick heard the clown as he tried to regain control of himself. He had over reacted. The pressure had been building for sometime. At least he had gotten to take a little of his aggression out on the Joker. Who probably deserved it more than any one else by the way.
Dick could feel from his arm being pressed against the Joker's chest, the shifting of Joker's arms within the straight jacket. There wasn't much time for Dick to react to the clown shoving him away. This put some space between them, but it didn't last long.
The Joker came at him, trying to wrap one of the sleeves of the straight jacket around his neck. Dick was quick enough to catch this action and dodged out to the side away from the Joker's reach for his neck. Once off to the side, he quickly ducked down a bit and swung his leg out, aiming to take the Joker out in the back of his knees.
One of the guards standing outside of the cell had caught sight of the now loose Joker and Nightwing fighting him back. The guard had rushed to open the door and get in there after the Joker. Mainly just worrying about getting the Joker secured again. The guard went after the Joker, armed if in need of away to secure the Joker forcefully.
Nightwing was there still. If Joker was planning something now, he was going to have one heck of a ti,e trying to pull anything now. Nightwing wasn't going to let him pull any other tricks. Dick had already relieve his mistake, letting the Joker get to him. He grimaced a bit at the thought of if Batman had been there.

The Joker didn't falter as Nightwing threw a sweeping kick his direction. Instead, he jumped over the vigilante's legs and lunged in his direction. Only this time he had a new target: the guard. Before the plump guard could even breath, the Joker had him ensnared his hold, the left sleeve of his straight jacket wrapped tightly around the man's throat. He began pulling it tighter and tighter, smiling as the guard's face began to take on a tinge of blue.
With the man gasping for breath through his noose, the Joker turned his attention back to his adversary. "Make on move, Bird Boy, and this guard's corpse will be Croc's next meal." His smile was evil as he pulled ever so slightly on the sleeve, cutting off the man's air even further. While the Joker intended the kill the guard regardless, he wanted to prolong his suffering to prove to Nightwing that he was no concern to the clown.
"Admit it, Nightwing. If Batman had been here, this would have never happened. He wouldn't have lashed out at me, he wouldn't have let me get loose, and he wouldn't let me strangle poor Frank here. He's got a wife and kid, y'know." He pulled tighter, getting a grunt from the dying guard in response. "Well, at least he'd die in the line of duty. It'd get his family more money than what he'd make in a lifetime, hehe." He kneed the guard in the back, getting him to breath out the last bit of air he had stored in his lungs.
"The next move is yours Nightwing, but know that whether you save him or not, you failed." He broke into a deep, sadistic laugh as he moved to pull tighter around the guard's throat, knowing full and well that Nightwing would most likely stop him. He would have worked faster, but it was hard to kill someone without the use of your hands.

Seeing that the Joker avoided his attack, Dick was going to try and strike back again, but the clown had made the first move faster. And Dick relieved it was not at him, but at the guard that had now entered the cell. He didn't have a chance to try and protect the guard as the Joker was about to wrap the sleeve around the guard's neck.
Dick stopped dead in his tracks. A life was now involved. How did he let this turn into a hostage situation? Only the Joker could turn this situation into what it was. Dick couldn't make a move with the Joker on the guy's throat tightening his hold.
Th sight of the guard suffering before him was bringing Dick down a level. He knew the Joker had won now. The Joker could take the guard's life easily at the moment, Dick stopped and listened to the taunting of the Joker. Trying to figure something out, he needed to work fast, but he was on the Joker's terms now.
Dick gritted his teeth and his sight dropped down from the clown's face to the suffering guard. His fist clenched at his sides as the Joker continued to go on, turning Nightwing's words against him. But at the words of the guard's family and that he would die in the line of duty, Dick released his clenched fists and looked up at the Joker again.
"Alright, I'll admit it...It might not have happened this way," Dick replied, submitting to the fact the Joker was right. He glared at the merciless clown. There was no negotiating over a life. It was either risk it or lose it. He wasn't about to negotiate the life of someone innocent over his stupid mistake.
Then Dick knew what he could do. The clown could only do so much with still have the straight jacket on, even with the sleeves loose. A slight smirk played at the corner of his lips. "Then again, like I said...I'm not Batman," Dick retorted as he lunged at the Joker. He knew he was quicker than the Joker, he could pull this off. The Joker had the disadvantage in this.
Dick grabbed a hold of the sleeve that was wrapped around the guard's throat, pulling forward to release the pressure on the guard's neck and to help free him of the Joker's hold. As he pulled hard on the sleeve, he swung his left fist for the Joker's face. If the Joker wanted to take someone on, he would giving him the chance to try his luck. But now wasn't the time, he was more interested in getting the clown away from the guard.

Just before the Joker was able to pull the sleeve taught enough to snap the guard's neck Nightwing was upon him. A look of anger flashed across the Joker's face, but didn't remain. It didn't matter if the guard lived or died; he had won. "Congrats, Bird Boy! You did something that guard could have done; you saved someone." He didn't fight the vigilante as he landed a fist on his face yet again, dazing the clown. He could fought back, though he likely wouldn't have won, but the Joker had absolutely no intention of escaping from Arkham - yet.
"Go ahead, Nightwing, lock me back up in my cell. Just remember this next time you come." His voice was low and serious as he stared at the boy dangerously. "I control things here. Not you. I will tell you what I want when I want, and I will leave Arkham when I want. Don't fool yourself into thinking otherwise. The Batman knows this, too."
His smile grew as he heard the gagging sound of the guard in the background as he fought to regain his breath. "Heheh... sounds like someone needs a ventilator! Better get on that, Bat Jr. or he might die!" He gave Nightwing a taunting smile, making his point as the guard continued to gasp. Joker had won this round, there was no denying this.
He didn't win every round - Joker lost most of them - but the ones he did win, he won in a big way. This would hopefully go a long way to undermine what Nightwing had tried to accomplish. The Joker had proved that he wasn't the Bat's equal, at least not in dealing with him, no matter how much he wanted to be.

Dick glared at the clown, as he spoke. When the guard started to gag, he glanced over his sounder at the man now on the floor. At least he had saved the man. The Joker didn't need to build the body count he had going. And Nightwing didn't want someone to die on his watch.
If the clown had said anything further, he had been about to just slam him into the wall again for the heck of it. But he needed to help the guard. Turning his gaze back on the Joker, now seeing that same smile plastered on his face mocking him, Dick narrowed his eyes as he looked at the clown.
"At least his life is worth saving," Dick flatly stated. The Joker had no right to take lives as he pleased. And there had been many time were they should have just left the Joker for died, but they hadn't. It wasn't there way. And Nightwing was not going to become as brutal as some vigilantes. It would only bring him down to the level of the crooks.
Turning away from the Joker, Nightwing walked over to the guard on the floor. He kept alert, just in case the Joker would try anything. As he got closer to the guard, he helped him up and off the floor, support most of the man's wait as he helped him to the cell door.
Once at the door, Nightwing dragged the guard out of the cell and shut the door behind him to make sure the Joker wouldn't try anything. He had a feeling the Joker had only been trying to prove a point and nothing more. "Someone get a medic," he called out as he tried to help the man.
It didn't take long for two other men to come down and help Nightwing. The one another guard, and the other a medic. They tried to assist the guard the best they could. Nightwing kept his distance, watching the situation as the two guys worked on the downed guard with an emergency kit they keep within the area for any situation. There was nothing more Nightwing could do. He looked at the medic and the new guard that had come. Then his sight shifted to the down guard, finally began to gasp for again, and start breathing properly again.
Dick was relieved they had gotten to help the man in time. He couldn't deal with the stress like that. Even though he didn't know the person, it was more important to do what he could to help them. Turning back toward the Joker's cell, he was going to have to pass it to leave any way. Dick saw the joker on the other side of the plexiglass and stared him down. "If and when you're back on the streets, you can bet I'll be watching," he said in harsh, but serious tone.

"I wouldn't have it any other way, Bird Brain. Batsy completes me. You amuse me. Batgirl... well, heh." He winked at Nightwing tauntingly before getting comfortable in his cot. He didn't let the deep bruise or the cut on his cheek from the vigilante's assault bring his mood down. No, these marks were the marks of battle; a battle he had won, nonetheless. "If I'm not worth saving, then why not just kill me, hmm? You and Batman both know it's the only way to stop me. You just don't have the balls to do it."
The Joker watched as the guard and medic administered to his victim, rolling his eyes as the guard was able to breathe again. What was the point? He was just another carbon copy guard; over-weight and mindless, like all lower level Arkham guards. Who cared if he had a family? Everyone has family at some point or another, and they all lose their family at another point. He was just cutting the punch line.
His dark eyes met the white slit's of Nightwing's as he stared at him through the Plexiglas. "So, until next time my darling Robin?" He flapped the arms of his straight jacket up and down, flapping the sleeves like wings. "I am vengeance! I am the night! I AM WANNA-BE BATMAN! HEHEHEHEHEHEEAHAAHAHAHAHAH!" His laughter echoed through the asylum as his 'psychosis' took on a new form. Or perhaps the Joker was just playing it up. One could never tell.

The taunting of the Joker was just getting sickening. Listening to the Joker go on, it was all just talk. If Dick wasn't the man he was, he would take the Joker down on his own. It wasn't a matter of being man enough. They had just been going by the ways things were ran. It wasn't right for one man to take justice into his own hands and made the final judgment. A life was a life, and it wasn't theirs to take. Blood always remained on the hands of the killer long after the even.
Dick didn't drop down to the Joker's level that time. He didn't need to explain his beliefs to a psycho clown that felt like everything was fun and games in life. Joker's mind was one mind, Dick would rather not have to get into. But often you had to think like the criminal to understand what they wanted and what they would do to get what they wanted.
Half tempted to punch his fist at the plexiglass to just to do so, Dick wouldn't let the clown get to him again. There was no point at that moment. He had gotten enough information to start helping him figure a bit of what some of the freaks like the Joker were up to. Though, no one seemed to compare to the Joker, no matter how hard they tried. Dick turned away, ignoring the clown as he started away from the cell.

"Tootles bird brain!" Joker waved his sleeved hand haphazardly towards the departing vigilante. "There's always room here for the crazies in Arkham." He smiled wickedly before skipping around in his cell jovially. They had had a fantastic 'first' encounter. The Joker had just reminded the kid that he was still pubic enemy numero uno in his typical maniacal manner.
Now, it was time to continue waiting. Sure, he wanted out of this hell hole, but there was no point in escaping only to speed up his extradition process across the pond. No, he would wait until the vigilantes started their war against the FBI directly. It was inevitable, after all. And while both sides were occupied, Joker would come out and play.
