Nina carries the bin full of equipment very carefully, making sure not to jar it too much since the contents are very fragile, very expensive, and practically new. Shawty, meanwhile, takes charge of carrying the warm clothing she brought, and the two are quiet as they follow Mr. Freeze outside: Nina because she's easily lost in thought when things are quiet and Shawty because she'd like to tell Nina just how ridiculously stupid all of this is but knows better than to say so in present company.
When Mr. Freeze explains the seating arrangements, Shawty's eyes go wide and she casts Nina a glance that easily translates into 'You've got to be kidding me!'. Nina smiles sympathetically and murmurs, "I could go alone..." Shawty narrows her eyes at Nina for that comment and hops into the van without further complaint, sitting as far away from the two polar bears as physically possible and keeping the equipment and coats near her. If anything Shawty is more fanatical about keeping Nina safe than Edward is, even if she's also much more willing to let Nina do as she pleases. And if she doesn't come with them then she can't be there to throw herself between Nina and danger at a moment's notice, so if she has to share the back of a van with polar bears then that's what she'll do.
Nina get in the front seat and immediately puts on her seatbelt, mentally running through everything she knows about cryogenics and MacGregor's. Which isn't much, she has to admit to herself, since she's never had the opportunity to do any work with cryogenics and, as she explained to Mr. Freeze, the condition he's trying to cure is simply too rare for her taste. But the former means that the latter might be worth it anyway because of what she'll be able to learn from an expert - probably much more than he expects her to. It's simply impossible to both apply a technique and hide it from Nina at the same time and she absorbs new medical information like a sponge.
Absorbed by her thoughts, Nina is abruptly pulled out of them by the honking of a truck. Tense until the moment passes without mishap, Nina quietly comments, "I can't help you if I get killed on the way there." But despite the content of that statement, she doesn't say it unkindly.

A few minutes later they were almost to the apartment complex. Freeze got off the highway and was now on the main road. He ignored the Stenet's response to the near accident. She didn't have to comment on everything after all, she will not become an expert in cryogenics by doing one thing,no it would take her years, even if she has a super power or immense intelect. Freeeze is and will be the expert in Cryogenics forever. Besides Cryogenics, Freeze has immense knowledge and understanding on most of the other science fields, so he isn't a dumb, useless and annnoying hirer, he just has needs. Needs that need to be met if the doctor wants to feel heat again.
Police sirens were common, more accidents on the highway, more shootouts than yesterday: thirty five to be exact. Gotham had a dark side as much as a light side, though the heat will be cleansed in Winter. Winter was when Freeze would be at full power and be out more often as well as finalize his plans for Boyle. With a momentarily halt, the van stopped, the trees around the apartment calm with ambition. The apartment had been abandoned and Freeze was re-designing the whole building. One for his labs and one for his personal quarters. The building seemed run-down, but it was very modern once inside due to the contractors hired by Freeze. Grabbing the bag, and unlocking the back door, Altra and Shaka ran out, and went inside quickly. Freeze then locked the van after Shawty and Stenet were outside. "This way Dr. Stenet" said Freeze whose excitement and inferences about the doctor varied on her ability levels, though Victor was still unsure if the papers had been wrong about her, which they seemed to be, as usual.
Freeze walked inside and took the stairs, walking to his personal quarters were Nora would be except she would be on the bed, under assessment. Before Freeze opened the door, he looked at Nina and Shawty, "Time to put those clothes to use" after saying that the old grimey door was opened, and the smoke from the intense cold iced off into the modern inside of the apartment, A table straight when they walked in, to the right was where the door before Nora. Freeze put down his gun in his gun holder which closed afterwards. The chill relaxed Freeze, who went to the bathroom and changed into his doctor clothes. His face looked good, though he did indeed need to shave somewhat. Freeze walked to the door which was locked by the access codes. The buttons clicked and lit up red then died out after each press. Freeze typed in Nora and Victor, as the door flashed a green symbol, and the metallic and automatic lock let go and the large door opened.
The room was colder than the others. The bed was carefully and exactly hooked up. Freeze touched Nora's hand "Rest my love, today we get a second opinion, and the next weeks you will be cured" kissing her hand, Freeze then turned back to his bag. Unzipping them and putting the equipment needed. Freeze then began typing on the computer hooked up to her condition. Motioning for Dr. Stenet to observe the recent assessments. Pressing the shift key with mordbid content, the screen turned black and the assessment numbers and equations popped up on the screen.

Though Nina's diploma states that she's a specialist in microbiology, that's simply a statement of which classes she took to get her degree. In reality she's probably both the person on the planet with the greatest understanding of organic chemistry and her gift easily trumps the world's best diagnostic equipment. Not that anyone besides her, Shawty, and to a lesser degree Edward knows that.
To her cryogenics is when the molecules she's already used to dealing with are vibrating slowly - and while that certainly has an effect on how the chemical reactions occur, she's hardly in foreign territory even though she's not used to cryogenics. The difference the temperature makes within cells is easy enough for her to learn by using her gift to observe it directly, so she simply doesn't need anyone to explain how it all works to her before she knows what she's doing. In the end, all medicine boils down to organic chemistry and she's a master of it. The papers are wrong about her - she's much, much better than she's allowed anyone to see as of yet.
Nina seems unaffected by the sight of the building they pull up to - even if the interior wasn't nicer than the exterior she knows that you can't just judge the quality of the work being done based on appearances. There's a correlation, to be sure, but it isn't absolute. Instead she focuses her attention on helping Shawty out of the van and making sure all her things are in order before they follow Mr. Freeze into the building.
When Mr. Freeze indicates that it's time Nina nods and sets down the bin full of other equipment and she and Shawty quickly put on the extra clothing they brought. It seems odd to prepare to do lab work in such clothing, but Nina's grateful for it when she feels just how cold it is inside the apartment. Once that's sorted out and Mr. Freeze returns from changing himself, the two women follow him into the room containing Nora. There Nina pauses just inside the doorway and simply gives herself a moment to take in the room and allows Mr. Freeze his space as he greets his wife, though she approaches easily when she's waved over.
Her eyes go to the computer readout, though she only glances at it for a moment before she looks back at Shawty and simply says, "Notes." While the previous assessments are helpful to a certain degree, no amount of specialized equipment Mr. Freeze may have can compete with Nina's gift. The past readings are useful in showing her the recent trend of Nora's condition, but those indicating how she's doing now are useless to her. When Shawty returns with pen and paper, Nina reaches out to the woman with her gift so that she can do her own assessment instead of trusting Mr. Freeze's equipment to give her accurate enough information, though she carefully forces her eyes to remain on the screen instead of allowing her focus to drift as she does when she's not trying to hide what she's doing. For what she's about to do next, it's critical that she gives no sign that she's doing anything but looking at the information he's providing.
She starts by simply repeating a few key points of the previous assessments so that her assistant will note them down for her own reference later, but when Nina starts giving Shawty data on Nora's present condition, Mr. Freeze would note that it isn't what's displayed on the screen but far more precise numbers and she includes information beyond what his instruments are measuring. And the only conclusion he'll probably be able to make about it, is that she's either making it all up or she's doing something out of the ordinary.
And while it's a bit of a risk for Nina to make that so obvious, she knows that it'll take a lot more than simply knowing things that she shouldn't for anyone to be able to take a guess at how she does it, no matter how intelligent they are. And she needs to prove to Mr. Freeze that she wasn't wrong when she said that he didn't need all of her attention on this project in order for her participation to be helpful to him.
Once she's finished her assessment, she adds, "Conclusion: the patient is deteriorating rapidly and will not survive long enough for a cure to be created if her current treatment continues unchanged. However, with several adjustments to her treatment it's quite possible that her condition will become more stable, allowing for a longer time frame." And then Nina goes silent staring at the screen for a moment longer before simply looking at Mr. Freeze and saying, "There's your second opinion."

That was it? Only a "longer" time frame. No no, Freeze didn't want longer time he wanted her condition permeaneantly cured. Naturally this would take months if not years, but he was hoping this would be rapidly accelerated with the second opinion. He had heard the same thing before, with the other doctor. It wasn't good enough, nor would it ever be. Now Victor knew she was only analyzing but hell he would be damned if Nora wasn't cured in two years if not three. "What do you mean by longer condition?, is there a way she can be cured permeneantly." Freeze waited for a response, but thing's were already going south, as he was sure they were going too.
Altra and Shaka were now in their pen, sleeping and eating. Billy and James along with the other top henchment were either monitering the perimeter with the cameras and defense systems or sleeping. Freeze wiped his hand over his face, making sure he wasn't falling into a deep slumber. The past week he had been up day and night working on Nora, but to no avail. The catalyst was never adequate and it was denaturing due to her condition.
"There is another way, the simulation has some faults, my anti biotic is slowing down the condition but I need a more permeable and real cure" Freeze was no friustrated, this was ridiculous all this for nothing, certainly she wouldn't be able to leave. He needed her, and if Ms. Stenet needed to stay longer than she would, to see the task done.

"I don't believe anything is really incurable," Nina states easily as she waves Shawty away since she's finished analyzing Nora, "I cure the incurable everyday - there's always a way. The question is whether or not she'll survive in her present state long enough for the cure to be found. In other words, I think I can give you more time." And if she can do that, perhaps that alone will be enough to make the difference between life and death for Nora. Of course, Nina somehow doubts that Mr. Freeze will be satisfied until she's also helped with the cure directly, but then again that's what Nina would probably learn the most from and therefore what would make this cut into her time worth it to her.
Looking over at Nora, Nina can't help but feel a tug at her sympathies simply by knowing that she exists. And that's exactly why Nina doesn't ever take on any patients - too easy to get attached to the hard cases. "How much more time I can't tell you - I have no experience in cryogenics. I simply see enough room for improvement that may be significant, but I won't know until I try. And that would seem to be the top priority; I don't imagine there would be any point to finding the cure to you if she doesn't live to see it?" she adds, folding her arms in an effort to keep a little more warmth in. Of course, for Nina it's the other way around aside from the fact that she agreed to work under Mr. Freeze for this project.
Then, as a bit of an afterthought, she asks, "And where would you like us to set up my equipment? If we hurry I might be able to get started before we head home for the evening."

Her answer was more than acceptable and Freeze was unsure if she had a diffinitive response, and she did. "You can set up your equipment in the far corner. after that, you should head home, it is getting late and you will need your rest" Things were finally moving ahead, finally. Freeze knew that Nora would be cured soon, with perseverance he had achieved another ally in the fight against her disease.
Before Dr. Stenet left, Victor said "Thank you , Doctor" Then going into another room to bed.

Glancing over at the indicated corner, Nina nods before turning to her assistant and saying, "Shawty - bring our stuff over here." Between the two of them, it shouldn't take long for them to get a workspace ready.
Then again, Nina has a hard time concentrating on such a mundane task as setting up equipment - that's one of the many reasons she hired Shawty in the first place. And she can't help but continue to feel around with her gift, getting used to all the low energy molecules. Mr. Freeze probably doesn't realize how much she's learned already by examining his wife, and Nina has to admit that it's pretty interesting. Not that she's quite sure yet how any of it applies to what she does, but that he's been able to help Nora so much already indicates that there's a tie-in.
But though the process is slowed by Nina's apparent inattentiveness, Shawty is simply eager to get Nina away from here - if only temporally - so her pace makes up for Nina's sluggishness and they have everything prepared quickly. As they finish up, Nina looks up and gives Mr. Freeze a rare smile at his thanks. "You're welcome," she replies, and means it too. As long as he never tries to force anything more out of her than she's willing to do, they'll get along just fine. She gives their setup a quick glance-over and nods to herself before saying to Shawty, "That will do. Let's get out of here - and bring those notes you took, I'll want to look over them before I go to bed." And with that, the two women exit the apartment.

It was done, for now. Dr. Stenet was probably now going to recommend something in the morning. Freeze thought about the progress as he slept. The next day he felt much better, he picked the pink liquid and began adding other supplements that changed the color. A catalyst had to be made for a prototype cure. This would be that catalyst. He called Dr. Stenet leaving a private message saying to come over in a few hours.

Having learned long ago how to get by with the exact minimum amount of sleep because of her drive to do her own research, Nina is already in her own lab when she gets Mr. Freeze's message. She quickly sends him a reply stating that she'll be there, and she wonders to herself for a brief moment whether he thinks that she's currently working on the notes that she took home. Actually, she figured out most of it while they were setting up the workspace in his lab, and most of the rest before she went to sleep the night before. She'll probably actually write it down on the way there. But then, when it comes to medicine, Nina has always been very fast.
Instead she spends a few more hours on her own work before she and Shawty head out to return to his apartment. This time they arrive a bit better prepared for the cold - Shawty, in particular, has bundled up a lot more. Perhaps it's the young woman's small size, but she just doesn't seem to take it as well as Nina can. When they arrive, Shawty knocks on the door for Nina, who is still tweaking this and that detail on her list of recommendations.

Billy opened the door, ever since he met Shawty he had been wanting to ask her out. Billy worked out a little bit, and he was very intelligent with anything related towards computer engineering, having a bachelors degree and graduating college at seventeen, he's a portege. Without Billy the supercomputers keeping Nora alive would be gone, and Freeze would be in a much more tense mood, but not today. Today Freeze was ready for what Stenet had to say.
Freeze was still in the room with Nora, preparing and typing on the computer with slow precision. The equations did match up, and a genius mind like Freeze's was always correct. He had cured the first two stages of MagGregors syndrome. Now he needed to cure the last one. Time, effort, coldness, and hope were the only things keeping Freeze from either collapsing or surviving. Though Freeze was a surviver. He had survived his mutation, he had survived countless battles with Batman, he had survived Arkham and he had survived the dark days of Gotham, and he will survive the coming ones. Survival was one of the key things remainin in his frozen blood.
Freeze could tell when people liked each other, yet people were never helpful to him or respectful so a deep hate and distrust for them remained. Though, occasionally he would watch them. He knew why people did things for each other, but he had yet to figure out why the outcomes were the results of love and affection. Freeze had given love and affection to Nora, yet she wasn't walking or talking. In his time at Arkham, Nora kept him alive. Freeze was around the age of forty two, yet he didn't look it. He looked in his late thirties. Age and Time couldn't deteriorate him nor will it. Stenet was an agent of hope, the last agent who could fix things around the crumbling Gotham. Freeze heard the door open and close. Billy was talking to Shawty, boxes and shoes echoed the floors. The morning newspaper on the desk next to Freeze's chair. Victor waited for the good doctor to walk in, the ice fortress around him sparkling with faith in her.

One of the disadvantages of being young and 4'9" is that people tend to mistake you for being much younger than you are no matter what you do. Probably because most people pass that height in middle school. But Shawty is all of twenty two, and hardly interested in some seventeen year old kid no matter how smart he is. Besides, when she's with Nina, she's at work and very, very focused on her job. Therefore she responds to Billy by being excessively polite and professional, and making it blatantly obvious that her attention is on Nina's needs and not at all on him - sooner or later the kid will get the hint that she's absolutely not interested. Or at least, that's the hope.
Nina on the other hand, is blissfully unaware that Shawty has an admirer, because when she's working she thinks of little else herself. Not even Edward... well, most of the time, anyway. But right now she's reviewing her ideas to slow down the deterioration of Nora's condition, and that's important enough to draw all of her attention. But though coming up with the ideas was a very quick process, that doesn't mean that they're full of flaws. Nina doesn't tolerate anything but absolute perfection in her work - if she doesn't know it will work, then she doesn't do it. And she certainly wouldn't recommend it to someone else.
And it's with that level of confidence that she silently hands Mr. Freeze the sheet of paper she wrote her recommendations on; twenty three refinements to the program he already has in place for Nora - most of them minor, but a few of them not. And she's guessing that the list will surprise him. Partly because it would demonstrate that she has a far greater understanding of the subtleties of Nora's current treatment than a non-cryogenist should; partly because in this, as in pretty much anything, she seems to be tackling the problem from all directions simultaneously; and partly because it would take most people a week at least to be sure that the provided numbers are accurate.
Giving Mr. Freeze a moment to scan the list, Nina breaks the silence by commenting, "If you do all of these things, you'll be able to lower the temperature of the tank even further without harming Nora, slowing down the chemical process even more. Which would, like I said, give you more time. How effective, how far, and how long - no idea. I've never done anything like this before. I just know that none of these things will hurt her, and unless I'm terribly mistaken they'll help a great deal." Having said that she goes quiet again, waiting to see what Mr. Freeze will have to say about it. A part of her is a bit concerned that he'll not trust her enough to know what she's doing when it comes to something as important to him as his wife, but then again if he doesn't then he probably shouldn't have asked for her help. But either way all Nina can do is wait and see.

Dr. Stenet in her reassuring voice handed Freeze the report. His black eyes narrowing down the recommendations. "Very good Doctor Stenet. Thank you for helping me, your skills are no longer needed for now, but if something changes I will call you" Stenet had done what she could, and the suggestions were good. Freeze stood up from his chair and went into Nora's room, adjusting the different medicines and making modifications to the equipment. A few weeks passed, Nora's condition wasn't getting any better, but it wasn't getting worse. Then, the graphs and slides changed, she was making a bitter and cold recovery. Freeze wrapped the perfected copy of the cure for the final stages and sent it to Stenet so she could analyze it. This would show that cryogenics does work, a record breakthrough in science. Of course Freeze would have the only storage of the cures, heavily locked away.
James was sleeping on the couch, as Billy was helping Freeze and making educated guesses to her condition within the next few weeks. Billy said that she should improve, yet his guesses were off. Freeze knew like others that minor associations had nothin on the real progress. Freeze looked over the papers that he had been writing, checking for details. He then used the stolen Analyzer to test the serum. A few beeping noises, as the serum was placed in the large vilce. A green button flashed and scans commenced. A few minutes later the scanning was done. The serum was theoretically perfect and had been enginered so well that the serum might even help Nora recover faster than normal patients; theoretically of course. That's why he had to have Stenet make sure this would work. After all, if this did Nora and Victor could be together again. Buy a house near the lake, spend summers outside.
Though Victor would still be like this till the end of time probably. Nora would adjust, but what if she doesn't like Victor? What if she runs? What then? Victor knew the consequences, but she had always cared for him, even in his darkest hours. She couldn't run away. The thought of forever losing her, gave the stomach a gasp and the throat a dry taste. After Nora was alive, Freeze would begin working on a cure for himself. Society was a cruel world, but finding their own place outside of Gotham was another task.

Nina nods to the thanks, having been happy to do it. It was a very good exercise for her, and the part of her that rankles at being told what to do and the time involved in such a project is soothed by both what she's already learned and the fact that she really is genuinely glad to be able to help someone more directly than she's accustomed to. She's never avoided having patients because she doesn't like them, after all - it's actually that she tends to like them a little too much.
Content to let Mr. Freeze make the recommended changes and understanding his need to do as much of it personally as possible, she quietly leads Shawty back out when asked. She's not about to argue with anything that gives her more time for her own research. But she is a bit surprised at how many weeks pass before she hears from him again. Though since he said that he'd contact her again if something changes, she has to assume that things must be going well - no news is good news, after all. And her recommendations must have worked well enough for there to be such a gap without the need to ask for more help.
As deep as she is into her own work as she is at that point, when she receives the copy of the cure that Mr. Freeze has made she practically drops everything to analyze it. Mostly because the moment she touches it with her power, she realizes just how complex the analysis will be. Used to being able to analyze things within moments that would take hours for anyone without her power, she's a bit surprised at her own lack of understanding of how the stuff is supposed to work at first. But then, the only cryogenics she studied before that was in helping stabilize Nora, and that was practically child's play compared to Mr. Freeze's cure.
It takes her the better part of a day to wrap her mind around it, but finally she finds herself understanding. And she has to smile to herself - she thought that she'd learn a lot while doing this, and she's not the least bit disappointed. Already she can think of other possible ways to use a similar strategy to tackle a few troubling projects of her own. But first thing's first: "I've completed my analysis," she reports, "And the conclusion that I've reached is that it's very, very close but not quite perfect. While the formula itself is in perfect balance, it wouldn't spread through the entire body very effectively. However, I've run into that problem a lot in my own research - I know how to solve it. Normally it doesn't take very long but for something this complex... it would probably take a few months." At least, not without totally throwing herself at the project, but like she warned Mr. Freeze she has other things that she considers to be a higher priority than this. But as long as Nora's stable enough to survive that long then it shouldn't be a problem.

Nina's voice reminded him that there was another opinion that could benefit Nora's. She said it was almost done, though there was one problem that was keeping it from actually being effective rather than ineffective possibly killing Nora. "A few months.... Once you find the solution or a possible solution, make sure you visit me so that the formula will be perfected." said Freeze who was now making more assumptions than he needed too.
Stenet had kept good on her deal of the bargain. Many doctors would usually leave Freeze or kill themselves because they couldn't bare themselves frozen forever. Freeze wasn't a killer, but he would kill to save his wife's live. Shaka and Altra rubbed on his legs, his cool arm petting their warm fur. Billy knocked on the door and then walked in, "Hey boss, is it ok if I go hang out with my friends for the night?". Victor thought about his question. The FBI was everywhere, the last time the FBI tried to take down Freeze multiple agents were frozen or had frost that impaired them for a long time. GCPD had also been increasing their number of captures, and finally the new ADA was sentencing criminals to their demise, clearing room for more. "No, it is dangerous outside, they have profiles on everyone if they capture you I will lose the base and be forced to move further down the city." Billy's complection changed from being eager to dissapointed. "Victor.. I just want to see my friends".
Freeze sighed, somewhat angry that Billy had not listened. "Go Billy, but make sure that you aren't seen or heard of. Come back early tomorrow." A redness in Billy's face rised straight up. "Thanks, boss" said Billy who eagerly grabbed his bag and left the room. Freeze waited grabbing a small frozen donut and eating it with contempt.
