Black Canary sat on the edge of the rooftop and stretched out her legs and arms, cracking her knuckles as she did so. With a yawn she leaned back on her arms to pop her back and let her head flop so that everything was upside down.
It's really quiet. Why's it so quiet? Shouldn't Scarecrow or the Joker be running around? There should be SOMEONE here. I mean, I'm right next to Crime Alley, for Christ's sake! Why's it so quiet?
Grumbling a little, Dinah Lance pulled her head and torso back up and looked down into the alley below her. Noone. Nobody. Not a soul in sight. Not a sound. Not a gunshot, not a squealing tire, not even a scream. Nothing.
"This is so booooring..." she whined. She'd been restless since returning to Gotham City for a visit. She'd been couch hopping, of course, visiting old friends. Ollie was back in Seattle still, so there was no reason to rent a hotel room, which meant that if Gotham's East District was quiet, Dinah's stay was incredibly droll.
"Something needs to happen, now."

As if on cue, Jervis Tetch would scuttle into view below, in his full apparel including top hat and clutching a small box. Of course this would look suspicious to any do-gooder, though the truth was he was not in fact up to no good. In the box was simply a new tea pot he had found, one painted with Alice pictures in the original Lewis Carroll style, and he had decided to purchase it for his set. This was hardly a crime, although he still hurried to return to his burned down hat shop, glancing about nervously simply out of habit more than anything else. He paused only to pull out a pocket watch and glance at it. "Oh dear oh dear I'm late..." He mumbled half-heartily, though he was not in fact late for anything.

Dinah sighed and kicked her feet back and forth as they dangled over the edge of the building. She paused for a moment and tilted her head when she saw the Mad Hatter dart into view. He seemed to be hurrying, but she knew that was sort of his... twitch. Considering things for a moment, she straightened her gloves and pulled herself up to stand on the edge of the building. She watched the Mad Hatter for a while longer before deciding to creep down and follow him. Her trip down the side of the building was quick and, for the most part, quiet. She could only hope that what little noise she had made wouldn't attract his attention if he WAS up to something, and she was fairly certain someone in the area had to be up to something, considering how terribly quiet it still was. Even so, she readied herself for the worst as she prepared to tail him.

Nobody would think to take a second look at the black Cadillac parked down a dark alley. In fact the alley would probably look strange without a shady looking car parked down it. "Damn it, Tetch. Where in the seven Hells are you? I have a schedule to keep." The rasping voice of Roman Sionis filled the car. Once again, Sionis had a plan, and how ever many times he turned it over in his mind, he needed help from the insane little man who would like nothing more than to apparantly die from mercury poisoning. It was the usual plan; use Jervis's mind control technology to control half the city, kill Batman, rule Gotham, that sort of thing.
Just when Sionis gave up Tetch as a bad job and began making mental plans to come back another time when his intel was more accurate, the slightly stunted man of the hour came walking around the corner. The way he was clutching thatittle box, it might have been a nucleur warhead, but Roman knew better. It was more than likely a cake that made the eater shrink or some stupid fantasy like that. He rolled down the window to hail the twitchy little fellow, but stopped cold. An observer might say that he looked like a feral animal that had scented his pray. Good thing that there were no observers around. Roman had just spotted a shadow that appeared to be following Tetch, and Roman was fairly certain shadows didn't move by themselves. Tetch didn't seem to be aware that he was being stalked, but Roman didn't feel like bringing it to his attention quite yet.
Best let things play out a little.

Tetch indeed failed to notice the following figure, pausing only to dig out his pocket watch and check it, not even slowing down. He had just come around the corner to his hat shop, when he noticed the car and came to an abrupt halt. "Curiouser and curiouser..." he mumbled, inching towards the vehicle as the window rolled down to show his friend. Or, what he assumed to be a friend, since he had been kind enough to join his tea party.
"Ah! Mask! Have you come for more tea?" Tetch would ask, offering a smile as he approached the vehicle. He glanced around nervously out of habit, though still not seeing his follower. "Are you too busy to come inside for a cup of tea? I just got a new pot!" he offered with a smile, holding up the prized box to illustrate. "How long have you been sitting out here? I knew I was late! Come in, come in, I won't hear of you saying no!" he didn't mean it as a threat or any sort, but more as a friendly invitation. It would be rude not to invite him in, if he had been waiting all this...however much time he had been waiting.

Dinah crept along behind the Hatter, watching closely to see what he would do. He was an odd fellow, and she never was sure with him whether he was up to something or not. But then, of course, she saw the car. And the Black Mask. Now the Black Mask... Dinah knew him as a fellow who was always up to something. She kept her guard up and stayed back, unsure what was about to happen.
She listened closely to what the Hatter said, and she realized that tailing him had been a relatively good decision. She now knew that he hadn't been up to anything in the first place, and that he was about to be up to something thanks to the Black Mask arriving. Granted, it didn't seem the Hatter knew this yet.
What I wouldn't give for Ollie to be here! Dinah rubbed her forehead a little as she watched the two villains before her. It seems a little odd doing solo work all of a sudden...
Her mind ran through the various possibilities of what would be happening if Ollie were here, and she deemed it a good thing that he wasn't. Things would be going a lot rougher if he were there, and the two of them would already be fighting about the order in which they do things, probably. Maybe a break and a bit of solo work was exactly what she needed.
She returned her attention to the Black mask and the Mad Hatter, realizing that she'd been drifting off into nowhere.

"Yeah, Hatter. I've been waiting a while, but I'm not in the mood for tea right about now." Though he was addressing the man in front of him, his cold eyes never left the shadow that had now crouched in the alley behind Tetch. Careful to keep his upper body completely still, he reached his long arm underneath his seat and felt for the pistol he kept there for just such an occaisian. You never knew when a meet up with an insane man could go horribly wrong when interrupted by a living shadow.
"I think we already agreed on a price for your technology, so we should be able to make an exchange soon." Still moving slowly and keeping his hands out of sight, he cocked the pistol and began to draw a bead against the shadows head. He didn't know if it was one of Gotham's favorite vigilantes or maybe just an over-curious cat. Either way, they would know soon.
Taking his time to close up the loose ends, he stole a glance at Tetch and wondered if he was armed. Roman doubted it. The man would more a danger to himself. No matter; if he wanted to help, he could always have the backup .38 Roman kept in an ankle holster.
In a swift fluid motion, he opened the door of his car and half stepped out. Raising his pistol, he began pulling the trigger as fast as the mechanism allowed. In under a second, Roman had loosed six shots.
Time to see where they landed....

Jervis wouldn't hear of his friend denying tea, or at least he wouldn't have, if not for noticing the tension in the air. He was smart enough not to turn around, though it did mean ignoring his curiosity. "Yes, the technology should be ready within the week. What you do with it is none of my concern." he spoke softly, but still stated the last for legality reasons. He was at least attempting to keep out of Arkham this time around. After all, he could not be held liable for the ways in which his products were used, right?
He gave the smallest of nods to indicate that he would move out of the way when the gun was drawn, but spoke casually. "I am sorry for the long wait." he did have a weapon, it was a bad idea to go anywhere in the area without one, but he was concerned that he might drop his new tea pot if he were to draw it. Priorities. He did hope Roman would understand his abstinence from the actual fight. he already planned to dash inside his humble abode and have nothing to do with it. Why should he? He wasn't eager to go back so soon! Besides, he'd never get his product if Jervis was in Arkham anyways, would he?
((Sorry for the long wait, I'm hopping to get back in the swing of things truly now. ))
