Helena made her peace as she decided to stay back from the crowd of invitees. She was sure at some points she would get a chance to mingle against her will. She tried not to seem too bored as she let her blue eyes scan the group around her. “Well…no time like the present.” She heaved a sigh of reluctance and ventured into the crowd. She held onto her glass of bubbly as she avoided being trapped by people she wasn’t exactly going to have much to talk with. She turned through some of the crowd and noticed a young boy walking among the adults. The teacher in her really felt like sneaking up on him and give him a scare, but she was certain that she should behave herself. Her idea of fun would probably scare some of the people around her.
Helena walked further into the crowd, making her way towards a bar. Any bar at this boy. Her purple gown trailed behind her slightly as she stepped quickly through the crowd in the silver heals. She was used to this, but it didn’t mean she liked it. As her dark mane cascaded down her shoulders she approached what seemed to be the bar to be at. A young red haired woman, a dark hair woman, and group had gathered around her. Must be Ms. Popular. She mused and ran her slender fingers through her hair as she took a moment to scan the room. She had noticed a few mob guys, but hopefully, they didn’t recognize her. But then again, when you’re the last member of a family who ran Gotham, Chicago, and New York City as well as holding Sicily in this bloody palm for God knows how long, people tend to not forget old favors owed. That wasn’t the attention she wanted. Not while she was dressed like this at least.
She walked closer to the group, looking through those who surrounded her. She felt anxious and on edge when she should really be feeling light and sociable. But then again, this reminded her of life before. So it was hard to push all of those memories out while still trying to move forward with her life. Maybe she should seek therapy. She chuckled to herself as she leaned on the bar a little and set down the full glass of champagne and tilted her head to the side and tried her best to observe those around unobtrusively. And just as she felt like she could relax she felt a sleezey hand creepy on her shoulder. “If you want to lose your hand….” She spoke up without so much as looking behind her. She had sort of forgotten she wasn’t in her favorite night time attire for a second as her fingers curled into fists. Then she turned and gave the man a slight smile as she let her eyes give off the intimidation. “Then, please, by all means, keep it there…” She smirked to herself as she watched the unknown figure walk off. She shook her head and ordered a fresh glass of champagne, not trusting the one she had ignored to deal with the rude man. Probably coming off as little paranoid, Hels...but then again, paranoid people live longer.

"Ha! Politician, public servant, and little more than a handshake with a body attached, indeed. I believe we've met in passing... Montoya, is it?” Thorne returned the detective’s cursory leer. “Are we undercover, moonlighting, or socializing tonight?” He gingerly lifted a glass from a tray just beside her and offered it up, his smirk turning more genial. “Whichever it may be, I hope you’re enjoying yourself.”
He couldn't fault her reaction, in truth he hadn't fully thought out his little intercession with Ms. Gordon. While any clout against the commissioner was welcome, some small part of him didn't want it to be at the girl's expense. Circles on both sides of the law carried a common, unspoken rule concerning family. Once blood was involved, it was no longer business; the gloves came off. Leverage was a tricky thing.
His expression was still warm, but his eyes lost some of their sparkle as he turned his attention from Montoya to the youth. "Say the word and we can see about that grape juice, young lady."
The lines and gathered crowd had somewhat dissipated and the host and hostess had resumed mingling. He watched them carefully, measuring their movements and manners. Thorne was vaguely familiar with Miss Kyle's callow security firm, but the woman herself remained a mystery. The man beside her, however, needed no introduction. LexCorp's CEO carried himself with a pragmatic mien that would have put Stalin to shame, drawing people both towards him and away at once. He started towards Gotham's newest "power couple" - until a vision in purple stopped him dead in his tracks.
It's an odd feeling to be awestruck, immediately pining for one's younger, healthier, more virile years. Thorne hastily shook off the impression and urge to whistle, silently scolding himself for gawking, however brief.
Italian... They're always Italian.

A wee bit of rosiness finds its way to Montoya's cheeks, but she rolls with the punch well, giving a nice, playful smile to the councilman. Before Thorne comments about the grape juice, she says, "None of the above. The entire off-shift of the major crimes unit is here tonight. Commissioner's personal request." The smile gains just a bit of an edge. "Any excuse to cut loose, eh?"
She does, however, give a polite little bow of her head. "But it's a pleasure to meet you again, councilman."
When he walks off, she looks to Barbara and gives a faint little hint of a shudder. "Ugh. Didn't realize that was who he was. I swear, the day that man got elected was the start of a thousand years of darkness for the department. Almost constantly supports anything that'd make it harder for us to do our jobs."
Still, there's not much time to dwell on that thought, because suddenly, out of nowhere, there's a tall, broad and bald multibillionaire greeting her.
Lex Luthor has an intimidating presence. Renée forces herself to push through it, but she barely manages to get out a "Thanks, I'll look forward to it" before Lex has had to move on to the next guest. Who happens to be the boss. Glancing at Barbara and then taking a wild guess at the contents of her glass, she shifts slightly, urging Barbara to step away and standing between her and the Commissioner.
"Shh. C'mon, head for that bench before your dad spots you, or you'll have to spend the whole night hanging out with him. 'Specially if he guesses."
Yeah, Montoya may have a vested interest in remaining the cool aunt.

Lex Luthor smiled as he wandered the crowds, he responded first to Vicki saying " Ms. Vale, you're looking positively lovely tonight as well. Do enjoy yourself tonight. We'll have to chat later." He winked and then moved on through the crowd, mingling about as he went. He smiled down at Charlotte for a moment, the green vest of his suit glimmering and merging in the odd lights of the rooms, he noticed her staying close to Selina before asking " So, what do you think of the party so far? Do you want to see something interesting?" He smiles as he looks at her, a faint amused smile on his face as he holds up his hands as if he were a magician. " It's not a magic trick, but it's something more interesting" Overhead the acrobats are doing their flips, moving among the hanging curtains. He shows off his wrists, then his hands again. " Nothing up my sleeve. . . except of course. . . this watch." He then runs his hands over eachother and says "And then I say the magic words: Start Program Beta!" In that immediate moment, there appear in the watery walls to be a swimming shark, and what appears to be a mermaid. In the fire section, rising from some of the alcoves, fires raise up, turning colors green and purple and blue and red and orange, the lightbulbs of the fire area turning colors in an impressive show of ostentation. He smiled and then wiggled his fingers for effect, as the slight variations of the rooms continued. A quiet song played in the air room as dancers began to move along to the music. He winked at Charlotte and then moved near Thorne as well and said " Councilman, I've taken the liberty of making certain that we kept the bar stocked with some of your favorites. Consider it a token of esteem from LexCorp." He glances at the Italian woman, then smiles back at the Councilman again " Do enjoy yourself." He moved along, catching up with Selina again, glancing across at Bruce Wayne, and then putting a hand behind her back. " I think things are going well." He whispers something into Ms. Kyles ear, then smiles with a faint chuckle.

Parting ways with Lex works for a bit as she stops and chats with this person, that person. She's offered a glass of wine and can't help but relish it's taste. Robust, sweet, red. It's magnificent. As green calls to green, she meets again with Luthor, leaning in to share a word and a knowing smile as her hand slips to the small of his back. "Quite, Luthor. And you went all out with the wine, the champagne." She goes to tug at his vest for a moment before she tells him; "This dress. I'm getting so many compliments, you know..." As her eyes thank him.
Her words trail off, and they promise once more to cross into one another's path. But for right now she is intent on finding several people and personally welcoming them. Even if it's like shooting fish in a barrel, but worse, because things keep getting in your way. A pause here to chat, to greet, to hug, to discuss jewels or food or liquor.
And then she finds the illusive Detective. Not that one, because it's clear from what he's wearing he's not standing out whatsoever. But she's after Mr. Bivins, who she finally finds pouring over another food area, murmuring to himself when her hand gently settles on his forearm. "Leo. Hi." She grins at him, keeping an eye out for Renee as well. They may be cops, detectives, whatever, but they're her good friends, as well.
~ ~ ~
After a bit of chatting, Selina is again in search of another friend. Beretta. It's not too hard to spot her, as the electric blue of her dress is so vivid and alive, one couldn't miss it. And the woman alone is amazing to watch in action. She's glad to have such a whirlwind of southern charm and steel will as one would call a 'friend.'
While the woman chats with another guest, Selina waits in the wings, taking a bite of this and that; tuna and something else as an appetizer, and a glass of sparking water. Her wits must be kept about her at least for a while longer.

Relieved that the introduction had briefly diffused the tension between Mr. Thorne and herself, it gave her the opportunity to quickly dispose of the delicate glass of champagne she currently held in her hand as the two adults interacted. His expression changed mildly as he turned his attention back to her, causing Barbara to straighten up a bit as he spoke. “Oh, I think I am alright. Thank you though, sir.” She managed both icily and politely, forcing a timid smile in his direction. There was just something about the councilman that made her skin crawl. She wasn’t sure what it was, but she didn’t like the feeling. Aware that he was going to be watching her, she desperately wanted to get as much space away from him as possible.
“It was lovely to chat with you sir, but I have yet to compliment the hosts of the event and it would be impolite for me to wait any longer.” Completely using that as an excuse, though he seemed to be distracted by another young woman. The lovely woman caused Barbara’s lips to purse a bit, knowing her personally on many different levels, though it wasn’t often she saw her without a mask shielding half of her face. However, she was for once relieved that she had stepped onto the scene and unknowingly saved her from the presence of the councilman before her. She turned toward Renee with a warm smile.
“Thanks for saving me.” Listening intently to the woman’s concerns, she nodded. “I’ve heard. Dad isn’t his biggest fan either.” Before the pair could approach the host and hostess, it appeared as though Mr.Luthor had begun to make his rounds and approached the two. Introductions almost didn’t seem in order because they were all extremely aware of the other’s identities. Barbara blushed slightly but nodded ecstatically. “Oh, I’m very interested actually. Thank you Mr. Luthor. I’m shuffling through internship options now to occupy my spring summer seasons.”
When Renee brought her father’s whereabouts to her attention, Babs complied with the woman’s order instantly. Lifting the skirts of her dress slightly so that she wouldn’t trip over the layers of tool. She flashed Mr. Luthor another smile. “I won’t keep you, I am sure you have dozens of others who want your attention. But I would love to hear more, I will be sure to meet up with you later” Starting toward the bench, she sat down with Renee, relieved that she had accompanied her during this unfamiliar experience. “I had a glass or two of champagne and Thorne called me out.” She said quietly to her friend and adopted family member. Renee was like the cool aunt Babs had always wanted, so she felt safe confining that bit of information with her.
The corners of her mouth hurt from smiling, especially at the news that Lex had taken interest in her future. She was privileged enough to apply for an internship at Black Cat Securities and knew she had a fairly good chance of getting, but scoring one with LexCorp as well would strictly limit her time but benefit her future greatly. Speaking of Black Cat – she had yet to greet Selina yet. Her blue eyes scanned around the room, attempting to stop the successful beauty before she turned her attention back to Renee. “Have you seen Selina?”

Selina always did look lovely in green, of course, he always did prefer her in her skin tight black outfit, but that could be for his occasional dominatrix fantasy that have crossed his mind from here to there. He would certainly be happy to dance with her for a moment tonight, but if he were honest, he wasn’t interested in playing games with her. He had been outright with her, and while it had led to some entertaining times between the sheets, it wasn’t what he wanted. She was too attached to Luthor and Wayne’s arms for his liking, and now, he is hearing rumors through the gallery that she is fancying up to the idiotic fat man at the GCPD. It disgusted him that he was on a list that she seemed to be checking off.
No, he would not be a part of those games. It tilted his plan. He had wanted to seduce her to steal her away from Wayne and Batman, but her heart was far too tangled up in that nonsense to ever be fully captured. To some extent, he had great respect for her. She played the game like he did. Balancing on the fence with many different suitors, entertaining one one night and another a different night, but he had foolishly thought that he might have been different to her. He would have to go about the plan differently, and unfortunately for her, the other way was much more violent and dangerous, but she would survive. She always did.
Speaking of beautiful woman that caused him too much trouble, he looked down at the surprise face. He enjoyed taunting this girl, but she had something of his that he needed back. He didn’t enjoy being stolen from. His hand slowly moved from her back to her waist, his grip tightening as he yanked her body close to his, whispering into her ear, “The world should never be safe for the ignorant.”
He only pulled back slightly to grab a glass of champagne with his free hand from the waiter who walked by. He held it out for her. “Only because I am a gentleman,” he stated, but his voice was stern, and his face had turned serious. He then started walking her towards a darker corner that he suspected would have less visibility of the many cameras Selina had crawling around this place. “You do look radiant dear, but I can’t fully appreciate the effect,” he commented light heartedly, his eyes dancing around the room. His eyes caught a glance of Joan, his doctor at that dreaded cage. She seemed to be running in the other direction. Good choice, maybe you actually possess a brain, after all, Doctor. He only froze for a moment when he saw Wayne. The computer in his eye flashed red for a moment, acquiring the target for the evening and focusing on the man that was flirting nonsense with women. He would handle Mr. Wayne next, but one riddle at a time.
He walked the girl up against the wall, tilting her chin up to make certain their eyes were locked and that she would understand. “You are quite a hypocrite. Accusing me of being a thief and then stealing yourself,” he said coldly, “You’re little action has prevented a meeting I wanted to have tonight with Mr. Luthor because of that I am off schedule. Riddle me this, how valuable is my time?” He took in her features as his breath hit her lips. She had this untapped innocence about her, but it was wrapped in confidence. He would admit it was attractive. “Now dear,” he smirked, “Play nice and hand me what’s mine. Maybe, I will even give you a dance.”

It was rather like walking into another world… Or even possibly another dimension, not that Kory entirely knew what that was like, but was certainly an exquisite wonder in city like Gotham. Gotham certainly had its beauties, but this. This was something different. Something more. As the bright green eyes widened at the sheer sight within, after entering. Certainly the lively vibe was added by the people attending, many Kory could certainly consider friends or their way to being friends. Either way, she certainly enjoyed being around people. Dick most of all, of course. With all her own high flying, fiery nature, occasionally you needed someone that could keep you a little grounded, as difficult as that may seem. Cueing a light look to his almost crystal blue eyes reflected by the water environment. Commenting regarding Selina and Lex.
"I didn't know she had this many connections… I may just have to give Selina the 20 Questions… Maybe, maybe they're also friends. I mean we were surprised with Bruce and Selina. Well, pleasantly surprised… Some friendships may seem odd, but often they don't really need explanation. They just…are!"
Kory delightedly commented in light jest, regarding the lavish Gala around them. Mostly noting the shear detailing. Decoration. As of course if not already noted, Kory certainly knew, well at least enjoyed decorating. Not excessively on purpose, all elements of joy really. As the tamaranean eyed around in the water environment location. Loving most of all the water features. Feeling the cool rush of a gentle breeze, just enough for a slight chill. She was practically solar powered, but certainly felt it tickle her skin. Suggesting she may have to ask Selina a little in how she did such things, but perhaps even this was past Kory's scale. Certainly did enjoy the connection somewhat to nature. Tamaran cities were generally built in and around nature. Lingered close to Dick as they had entered and observed the surroundings. The people. The hosts. Although she felt less surprised, but then she didn't exactly know Lex personally herself. Lightly commenting regarding Bruce and Selina. That shock, well certainly more pleasantly surprising, Kory thought. Perhaps on some level they were the unlikely sort, who really knew who was the true sort. Smiling softly, sometimes it was a little more skin deep. After all they should know. Kory lingered a hand down to Dick's. Unity. Certainly wasn't something they just walked into. Although she kinda did, would have. She smiled amusingly, before of course she broke a little. Just enough to truly embrace the hosts. Stopped evidently short with a smile and a hand. This truly must be Lex. Mr Luthor, if this was to be more formal. Kory aka Starfire delighted the greeting with a smile. Although a little confusion by his words… So far? Was that meant to be a joke? It wasn't unknown Starfire was working in between Gotham and New York, but far. She hardly considered that far
"Greetings and gratitudes. You may call me, Starfire. If you like… Oh, you mean New York? Its always a comfortable easy trip. Especially at the end of winter."
Kory politely with a sweet smile, innocently responded to Lex. Perhaps got the tiniest chills, but then it was probably just the environment. Added flash of a little twinkle in her otherwise emerald eyes addressing her as princess, before offering to call her Starfire. Princess was still certainly a part of her, it wasn't something you could just escape from, but she was far from it at the same time. Not entirely sure, she assumed New York. She still was considered a current Titan, even though she was seen with the Outsiders more and more in Gotham. The trip wasn't quick, though it wasn't really far, then again flying sort of aided that along, in fact she had taken the trip more times that she could possibly count, but certainly wasn't a bad trip. It was more often worth it and with the approaching spring, it was something else entirely.
"Thank-you most kindly. Oh, yes. My date. Best date in a long… Long…. Long time! But, who's keeping track…?"
After the near crashing of friends, of course Kory had halted herself enough not to go overboard with an embrace, not to ruin Selina's outfit. Though certainly embraced as friendly as she could, she had certainly missed her. Thanking of course the compliments. Before of course Selina noted Starfire's date. She could feel the hesitation. Perhaps a little confusion. Publicly it was Starfire who was dating Dick Grayson. Thanks with that stunt they pulled with unknowingly help of Mirage. It certainly made this easier. Neither one needed to wear a disguise, well in Kory's case it was usually sunglasses, which probably didn't exactly always help. It was something. Starfire motioned a hand at Dick's again, her date. Before amusingly, sarcastically stating it had been a while, since they've been on a date. A real dater. Without the kidnapping drama. The baby drama and the general teamwork keeping them busy. Offering him a smile, she's honestly not kept track that well, just long enough to feel the need. After all, really at times all Kory had was her feelings.
"Oh… I hope you don't mind, but I am on the beeper… If something dramatic happens elsewhere… I may have to leave early! You know, save the world!"
Kory responds to Selina's words on seeing the two of them, before throwing it out there. That she was sensually on call, particularly Titans. Outsiders as well. It was certainly high chances she wouldn't be or at least not until much much later, if it did, certainly would have to make the quick dash. Almost as quick as Wally. Hopefully as Kory kindly says this, that Selina would understand. She certainly came here to support such a wonderful charity. As well as to enjoy herself and the company of friends. As Kory moves off, eventually after the embracing of her friend, though she is sure it wouldn't be the last time they see her. With Dick as company, Kory was certainly in good company, although she was in vast seas of familiar faces and unfamiliar faces. Where to start? Wandering further into the open space over looking the sea. It really was so beautiful out. It wasn't overly bright, after all it wasn't exactly summer, but the wintery weather seemed to be good to them today, this evening. Just casting a beautiful dim lit over the waves that lapped at the mountains edges. Stopped short by a waitress, though takes a water themed mock-tail. It was without the edge, but still colourfully fun. Smiled softly to Dick, before spotting Bruce… Diana…. X"HAL! Why hadn't see? When did she? Ok, she was sure there was something she was missing, but she hardly could care right about now. There certainly was excitement, she knew Diana extremely well, she also reminded her of Donna. Not just from the striking similarities, but well, yeah.
"X'hal…This is such a pleasant surprise. I had no idea Diana was going to be here? Or be here with Bruce? I feel I'm missing something…"
Kory openly remarked to the presence to Dick, of course not overly loudly, but well it wasn't always easy containing these emotions.. Just the shear sight of Diana, certainly was a surprise. A good one at that. They weren't exactly as sisterly as Kory and Donna, but they did share in ways the sisterly connection with Donna. So they certainly were not at all strangers to one another. Kory had visited Paradise Island a couple of times, even fought alongside the Amazons. It wasn't a stretch from her own warrior training, Kory had vastly enjoyed the visits. Although surprised to see her with Bruce… A date? As Kory curiously questioned Dick, perhaps it was a JLA thing. Suppose Bruce and Selina wasn't as public as she had thought. Another waitress approaches with appetisers and Kory happily picks up a couple of shrimp. She certainly loved shrimp. Putting them in a little napkin on her hand. Politely picked at them. Waves a little in Diana's and Bruce's direction. Although not greatly if for whatever reason don't wish to greet them. Whilst her eyes catch a little at the acrobatics… OOOh! Wow… Shark! X'hal! Shark? Mermaid? Momentarily there was initial feeling for suspense and wonder, all rolled around in one.
"Wow, these are pretty impressive, don't you think, Sweetheart? I'm surprised you didn't offer to perform… Hmmm, yep saw that last night…. Ooh and that, three times."
Kory openly commented in close contact with Dick. Drifting closer. Pointing out the acrobatics. The swift moments, naturally they just made her think of Dick. This was his kind of thing, in more ways than just one. Teased playfully that Dick could have offered, though of course she knew why he wouldn't, then again she probably wait a few hours and she'd be seeing him do just that. Smiling to herself as she pointed out moves she had caught him doing previous nights. Of course she meant as Nightwing. Taking some bites of her shrimp. The stir and sip of her mock-tail. After flashing him her smiles, although they weren't going easily end. Not this night. Offering to feed some of her shrimp to Dick. Sneaking in pecks to his lips. With the crowd, would probably mean he wouldn't be as shy with a little pda, then again she really wasn't shy to begin with. Not with her emotions. Motioned shortly towards the Fire section. Kory was certainly eager to see more of the elements and feel a little more direct heat. Even as hot as she was, she certainly could do with a few degrees more. Eyes catching at the fire acrobatics now. Yep, not entirely new, giggled softly to herself. Amusing herself at the couple times she'd come close to setting him on fire. Ok, she had a little on occasion. This was almost what it looked like. Her eyes of course then catch the red sparkly dance floor. Ok, she kinda knew where she wanted to be. Eyeing Dick with a smile.
"Hmmm, I think I'm almost ready to dance… I'm in the mood for thriller… Ooh, there's Charlotte…"
Not that Kory was hinting at something, as they began to enter into the fire section, but well wasn't easy entirely to peel her eyes off the dance floor. It certainly was one heck of a dance floor. Sadly not a lot dancing yet, was it too early. Although she hardly ever felt it was too early. Though playfully motioned her arms in ways of thriller, Michael Jackson. Kory laughed softly. Her eager eyes did move in any search for friends. Diana. Bruce. Tim. Selina. Roy… Charlotte. Spotted her not far off. With a friendly smile. In her tone suggested they go say hi. Chat. Hang out. Though Charlotte for sure knew Kory. What about Starfire?

Caught by surprise by Lex's question, it takes Charlotte a moment to figure out what to say. " Um, it's incredible - I've never been to anything like this before!" she replies - no, nothing even remotely like this. The closest thing would maybe be the little birthday parties she attended when she was a kid... yeah, no comparison to this. " Okay?" she responds when he offers something interesting - sure, she'll bite. And the moment he says the 'magic words', she catches sudden movement out of the corner of her eye and looks up at the change. " Woah..." she replies, her eyes going wide in surprise, " That's like... special effects in real life..." Then his attention goes elsewhere, and so does hers. There is, after all, so many things that try to grab your attention around here - if it's not the decor then it's the acrobats and if it's not the acrobats then it's all the people. And there are so many of them! In fact they seem to practically flood the place when she finds herself among them and without Selina by her side. Still, she finds herself calming. At least until she spots Kory spotting her. She responds to the woman by flashing her a smile through the distance between them, as if she's happy to see her. But she's not, really - she's still strongly of the opinion that Kory is far too familiar. To the point of being unpleasant, even. So though she casts that smile she also turns and intentionally disappears into the crowd, finding a thick knot of people to place between them and weaving her way through in an attempt to make it impossible for Kory to figure out where she went. At least, not without going to extremes. However, concentrating as much as she is on 'getting away', she fails to pay enough attention to where she's going and suddenly bumps into someone. " Oh, I'm so sorry!" she apologizes even before she turns to see who it is. (OOC Note: Anyone's free to decide who she bumped into and how hard. )

The mischievous smirk on Summer’s face didn’t waver for a moment, despite how much her heart rate escalated. She was very much aware of why he had approached her because the young reporter had taken something very valuable from him during their last encounter. At the time, her curiosity had simply gotten the best of her, urging her to participate in an activity that she didn’t support engaging in: stealing. She didn’t bother pushing away from him, unwilling to cause any kind of scene and knowing that there was nothing he could do to her here without causing the same public crim. Instead, she allowed him to pull her dangerously close to them, her girlish frame pressed to his masculine one as he hissed into her ear.
Summer smiled, just in case any of her staff or the dozens of others surrounding them might notice there activities. From the outside eye looking in, one would never guess what the two were truly discussing and simply having a good time. Goosebumps raced across her skin as his hot breath came in contact with her ears. “Now, you wouldn't want to hold me too close, we don’t need your date to be jealous, do we?” Brushing off his comment entirely, she knew exactly what he was implying. However, in her newfound seat of power she didn’t even find it necessary to defend herself.
Accepting the glass of champagne, she might not have trusted it if she hadn’t only recently grabbed it off a passing tray. Summer brought the flute careful to her lips and too a quick sip of its contents. Before she could even reply she was being quickly lead towards another region of the venue. Of course, being in a social setting she sent pleasant waves and smiles at those she passed acting as though nothing was wrong. In all honesty, it wasn’t. She felt considerably safe in her surroundings, despite the austere tone of his voice. “Thank you.” She replied politely, “You look very becoming yourself,” She matched his tone, though the devilish smirk managed to creep back to her red lips.
Summer wasn’t sure where he was leading her, but being in such a crowded social setting, she was positive he was looking for somewhere much more remote. Their destination approached quickly as he seemed to settle on where he wanted to speak to her in a darker sector of the venue. The smile wavered only for a moment as she found her back against the wall as if she were a child, her chin forced upwards so that she would meet his strict gaze. “I was only teaching you a lesson, giving you a taste of your own medicine. In fact, I actually planned to return them at first. That is – until I read them.”
She was still forced to look up at him with wide eyes, her confidence managed to increase in size as she held onto the stem of her champagne class as if it were a stress ball. Her smile only grew when he ordered her to return the papers, and she was quick to answer. “I don’t think so. Besides,” She leaned toward him, whispering. “It’s mine now.” The redhead informed him, selecting the exact words that he had said to her that fateful day at the bank
“As an already successful news anchor, those financial files are only going to do wonders for my career; I just have to decide which approach I am taking and wait for the hype of the gala to slow down before I do so. Don’t worry though; I will be sure to mention you as ‘anonymous source’ somewhere.” Feeling incredibly smug knowing she had something that he wanted, Summer knew it would only be a matter of time before he decided to approach her on the matter. However, never did she think that he would choose the gala of all places to do so.

Earlier, Vicki Vale had seen Harvey Bullock and Summer Gleeson talking when she was enroute to Rowdy. She didn't know what they were talking about, but she did notice Summer wrinkling her nose as she walked past. Not wanting to interrupt them, Vicki stopped and gently placed a hand on the small of Harvey's back for a few seconds so he'd know he'd caught her eye. Then she smiled and moved on. Maybe they'd run into one another later that evening. If not, that would be okay, too. Vicki and Rowdy enjoyed each other's company for a few minutes in the Fire Section, until Vicki unexpectedly excused herself. "I'm going to check with the reception desk," she told Rowdy, giving him a soft peck on the cheek. "Maybe Ethan left me a message there. Behave yourself." Making her way back to the main lobby, Vicki saw Summer in the dark corner of the room, conversing with another man, none other than the enigmatic Edward Nigma. Something didn't feel right to Vicki, and so she made it her business to make her way over to Summer and check on her personally. Walking up on the couple, Vicki announced herself, giving them both ample time to acknowledge her presence. "Good evening, Edward," she greeted with a smile. Then she looked at Summer. "Hello again, Summer. I came over here to make sure you were all right." Vicki's eyes shifted to Edward again. He looked so fine to her. "Is everything all right, Summer? Edward isn't bothering you, is he?" Her eyes stayed fixed on Edward.

The girl he had seen back at the bank was a different girl than the one in front of him. She had been intimidated and scared enough that Jonathan would have had a field day with his research. No, now she had this unqualified façade of confidence, as if she thought she was in control of the situation. A foolish idea that would have made him laugh if he wasn’t so focus on retaining what was his. “My date is an explosive expert, and while I don’t condone killing, she doesn’t have the same moral qualms,” he smirked, “I don’t particularly care if she’s jealous, but you might.” He chuckled hoping to poke holes in this blanket of confidence as he moved her to the corner. Of course, Dee knew better than to get involve in his personal affairs and where she had run off to was completely unknown to him.
As he held her chin up with his finger, his eyes traveled along her features. She had such big eyes that reminded him of Bambi from the children movie, all of her was soft…and breakable. If she wasn’t being such a pain in his ass, he could even find himself appreciating her subtle beauty.
But as the words slipped from her lips, he found his eyes narrowing, and his own mouth forming into a stern straight line. His free hand tightened on her waist with each condescending remark, likely causing a bruise beneath her dress. Did she realize who she was speaking too? She must not because she acting as if he were some Plumber Joe coming back from the job. There were two things you don’t do to the Riddler. You don’t teach him. You don’t take from him. It would be like trying to teach a god, or attempt to steal from a god. If you do it, you can only expect to feel retribution.
As she spoke the same words that had left his own mouth during their last encounter, his short temper was being held back by strings. His hand holding her chin, expanded to cupping her jaw, holding her right underneath and along her neck. He had to give her some credit. She did manage to steal the files off of him, but she hardly deserved the boost in her career from his hard work. He was the one that had found the drunken Lex Corp Accountant, determining the information he had, found the lock box, and got into the bank to take it. She did nothing but pluck them from his jacket.
Without warning, he pressed his grip on her neck upwards, using his taller height and the wall, to let gravity choke her. Her heels barely lifting from the ground, he brought his body close to hers, his chest pressing against her already struggling lungs as his face went to her neck and breathed in her hair. From a distance, it would look like two people possibly sharing in a private session of their love, and not a man choking a younger woman. “Miss Gleeson, I admire your determination, but that wasn’t answer to my riddle,” he smirked, as he spoke, “I think you have forgotten who you are speaking too, but I am more than happy to remind you.” He chuckled darkly, “I am the man who almost started World War III with China with only a few data codes and corrupt politicians. I am the only man who has challenged Batman intellectually. I am a man who always gets what I want. I’m the Riddler.”
Based on the way her throat was constricting and her lungs struggling, she was about to lose consciousness. He dropped her back to the ground, releasing his grip on her throat, but keeping his hands attached to her, to prevent her from running off. “Where are my files, dear?” he asked, as she got a hold of herself.
He felt proud himself, knowing that the small little threat probably burst her bubble of confidence she had been bathing in. The naïve and ignorant were easy to crumple. A few holes into the reality they stupidly believe they live in, and their life falls apart. He suspected it would be the same of this girl, but before she had a chance to answer, he heard a familiar voice say his name.
He frowned. He never considered himself in a crowd to be so recognizable, especially in a grey suit and with his hat, but this was the third person to know who he was in the distance. He would need to be careful, if he didn’t want to get arrested by the end of the night. Likely, Arkham, himself, was slithering around here like the snake he was. He turned, wrapping his hand around Summer’s waist and keeping her close to his side, as they faced Vicki Vale. “You look lovely, per usual, dear,” he remarked to her, “Does the media always flock together like this? It reminds me of scavengers.” He smirked, but his finger tightened ever slightly on Summer’s waist, a silent threat to play along. “I am merely trying to convince this young woman to dance with me, but she’s not too keen in doing what I would want. I think she thinks I’m too old for her,” one of his hands went to his heart, as if the mere thought of being old, broke it.

Summer couldn’t help but wince as his grip tightened unceremoniously on her tiny waist with each snarky sentence that fell from her red lips. Discarding her nearly full glass of champagne on a nearby surface, she was half tempted to spill it on him so he might match his date. However, she cleverly refrained, knowing that it would get her know where and earn her several strict discussions and eye rolls from the gathered group attending the well-known gala. The redhead was not very good at blocking out pain, and she squirmed subtly in attempt to loosen his grip, still not resulting in enough movement to cause a scene or be noticed by anyone passing by. After all, this was an extremely public event and she had a reputation to uphold. It wasn’t until he adjusted the placement of his hand and tightly gripped her jaw. “Don’t-“ She started, finding it difficult to speak with their current arrangement.
Within a matter of moments, she felt his hand shift and close absolutely all distance between her pale neck and his large hand. The last gasp that she could muster flew from her lips and her already-wide eyes grew large with fear. Her recently free hands shot up to grab his arm, attempting to pry his fingers away from her throat. Completely unable to breath, Summer gasped for breath, forced to look up into the eyes of her very convincing attacker. Was he going to kill her? Surely someone would notice, after all, they were in the middle of a major event with a great portion of the city attending! As tempting as it was to kick the wall or force some kind of noise, it would create a great deal of chaos. Summer wasn’t one for starting scenes, but simply following them. The last thing she wanted to do was steal any attention from the beautiful gala and make her dear friend question inviting her. She assumed that he knew this bout her, using it against her in this particular situation.
Unable to pry his fingers as she bordered on the verge of consciousness, her vision started to blur and she knew it was only a matter of time before everything went black. Desperately attempting to use her tiptoes with the hopes of obtaining a bit of much-needed oxygen, only moments before she was to drift into unconsciousness he released her. Summer gulped in the sweet oxygen, finding herself extremely lightheaded. Almost falling into him, she steadied herself quickly to prevent doing so. Still panting, her ample chest heaved as attempted to catch her breath. Unable to manage any words, she shook her head no: signaling that she was not going to give them up so easily.
Bracing herself for whatever he planned next, she was spared by the arrival of Vicki Vale which was something she honestly thought would never happen in her life. Edward whirled her around, his grip making it perfectly clear that she wasn’t off the hook just yet. Trying to compose herself quickly, she flashed Vicki a very convincing smile and placed her hand on Edward’s chest to play up the act even more so seeing as he insisted on keeping her petite frame so close to his own. “Oh hello! No, thank you though. Everything is fine.” She managed reassuringly, her voice somewhat hoarse. Forcing a laugh at his comment, she followed it up quickly. “He’s only teasing. I merely insisted that I don’t dance. I was born with two left feet. It’s nothing personal, I am sure you are better off finding experienced dancing partner.” While the persuasive words fell from her pretty lips, inside she was practically screaming.

When Edward addressed her, Vicki smiled and sighed inwardly. Then she noted the sound of Summer’s voice as the young reporter added to the conversation. Vicki thought Summer didn’t sound like herself. Vicki also noticed that Edward was being so clingy with Summer. That was a big red flag to her.
“Men are like fine wine,” Vicki said to them both. “They improve with age. Women like Summer need to learn to appreciate that . . . like I do.” Vicki’s eyelashes batted seductively at Edward. “On the other hand, Edward, you need to learn to take ‘no’ for an answer.” Hiding her disgust, she cooed, “If everything's all right here, then you two have fun, okay?" Then she leaned into Edward and whispered in his ear. "Save me a dance, won’t you, Edward?" she flirted, giving him a soft kiss on the cheek. "Perhaps we can take an elevator ride later. I'd like that."
As Vicki withdrew herself from Edward's personal space, her eyes suddenly widened unexpectedly, and she reached behind herself to check her zipper. “Ohmigod!” she screeched, clasping the back of her dress. The front of her dress began to drop off her body. "I’ve come undone!”
Vicki looked around to see if anyone was watching her. She was completely mortified.
“Summer! Please help me!” she pleaded, tears forming in her eyes. “Edward, please excuse us! I need Summer's help in the ladies room!”
Vicki turned to the side to show Edward that she really was having a wardrobe malfunction. Her cheeks flushed with embarrassment as her breasts almost fell out in front. She grabbed the front of her dress to keep it from falling off her body entirely. Then she looked over her shoulder at Summer, her watering eyes begging for assistance. “Summer, are you going to help me or not?”

Harvey smiled to the commissioner.
"Never better, Commish."
The three ladies on his arms smiled. He smirked to Rooster as she pulled up to escort Gordon if he so wished it.
"Hey there, Tex, lookin' good."
Harvey's eyes searched over the crowd. Soon he spotted Selina as Lex had approached Rooster. He looked back to Vicki and winked to her as she touched his back.
"Hey, Vick, how's it goin?"
He excused himself momentarily from the company of the three ladies that had latched onto him and went to find Selina. Once he found her he made a low whistle.
"Hey, baby, lookin' all kinds of good I could eatcha with a spoon."
Harvey leaned down kissing her once on each cheek, a habit his mother had ingrained in him when greeting those whom were close to him.
"Man, do you know how to throw a party or what, baby?"
