Lola had been waiting anxiously, but lavishly, in the back seat of the glorious limo. Her new diamond bracelet glimmered and sparkled around her wrist. It sent lights about the car as if she was about to start her own disco, of course she never would. It was just to remind herself how much she deserved to be right where she was right now. The bracelet really was gorgeous and she couldn’t wait to show it off.
The moment had arrived. When the vehicle stopped and she was assisted out her eyes panned along to beautiful Gala scene. It was an amazing sight to behold and she felt there was so much more to see yet. Gracefully, she kept up with Ozzy, making sure to have her arm locked around his. She was still new to this world of Gotham and there were so many people here that knew Oswald but not her. What better time to start making friends?
She nodded politely and smiled to the common folk that stood about in the entrance to the Gala but they didn’t linger long there. Ozzy seemed to already have his sights upon someone and when she recognized who it was Lola offered a sweet smile. She let him take his hands away from her to properly greet the hostess and when he was threw she leaned in to kiss each sides of her cheeks in greeting.”Selina! So good to see you! The Gala is positively divine! I’ve barely taken a hundred steps and my breath is already taken away.” She greeted and commented to her before gracefully slipping her arm to Oswald again.
There was a new man that came into her sights that Oswald looked as if he knew. She wasn’t introduced properly but he seemed to be a busy man. It must have been the man that Selina was talking about so much at the jewelry store, a taste for the finer things indeed. She continued to walk with him at his side, smiling and greeting the people that walked by. Her eyes wondered around to the different shows and attractions that seemed to be catching everyone else the moment they walked in. A burst of fire came out of the acrobat’s mouth and Lola smiled from ear to ear. She really was exactly where she was supposed to be.
Lola took the glass she was offered from Oswald, both of them warming up for what she expected to be a wonderful night. ”To a glorious night.” She touched her glass to Oswald’s and then took a sip herself. Nothing could ruin this night.

“Best behavior…” she muttered to herself, biting her lower lip lustfully in the direction of the bar. “You can’t screw this one up…” She took a deep breath, which was somewhat difficult considering how tight her dress was. Her dress consisted of a corset bodice laced up securely and a slight train to her multicolor, custom made gown. The blonde tossed her flawless waves over her shoulder as she started confidently toward the bar, only to be stopped what seemed like a dozen times before she actually made it to her destination. With her fair share of completely fake and insincere ‘hello’s’ the Mayor’s little princess continued to journey toward the bar in the designated fire location in the elemental themed event.
Even though she didn’t want to admit it, she couldn’t deny the splendor of the event she was currently attending. While she silently sulked that the gala had topped her past birthday celebration, it only added to her unpleasant mood. Her father had forbidden her from a list of things: drinking and sneaking off being the two at the very top of the list. Fully aware that he was going to have someone keep an eye on her despite how populated the space was.
She paused as she was within several feet of the bar, sighing dramatically before turning on her six-inch heel and heading the other way. The moment she even attempted to steal a sip of something her father’s little minions would have a field day. Instead, it would be best if she went to great the host and hostess of the event. Waiting until the crowd died down, she started toward the power couple, Her eyes looking Selina up and down as she started toward her. Her eyes hungrily admired her frame and how well the dress fit her hour-glass frame. Piper always had a thing for older women, but Selina barely looked a day over twenty-five. Her presence was fierce, but it made her desirable. Oh- and Lex looked good to.
Sauntering toward the pair now and sure that she was one of the last to do so, the blonde bombshell smiled warmly at both as she approached. “Great turnout. Who are you wearing Selina? It fits you so perfectly it's like it was designed for you.”

Joan started to feel out of place the moment she got close to the Gala and it wasn't even the extravagant feeling the building gave off that did it, she'd been expecting that. It was the line of cars outside that one by one pulled up to let their guests out. Limos, sports cars, all of them shiny and new or stylishly old and so many with their own drivers to chauffeur them around. Really she should have predicted this, she'd never of gone and bought a new car just for this, never have even rented one but was the idea of just parking a block round the corner and calling a taxi to take her to the door so silly? Yes, ridiculously so. Particularly as she wasn't anyone the press was even going to care about. Still, as she pulled up in her small hatchback she'd been driving for over half a decade she couldn't help but be a little self-conscious and imagine the valet was a little disappointed. He might not be if he knew she'd replaced and upgraded pretty much everything but the bodywork but there would be no joyriding of her car tonight as she slipped the man twenty bucks and headed into the party, avoiding looking at the media on the way in.
Taking in the sights she has to pause by the door, they really had gone all out with this thing. She wonders how much of the asylum's rebuild could have been paid for with the party budget alone. It was best not to think about it, the socialites seemed to find any excuse to dress up fancy like this and she was never going to understand it. Best to get the staring out the way now though, she couldn't spend the entire evening looking at the building.
Selina and her colleges are quickly spotted but though she offers a small wave of the hand in greeting she carries on further into the party, Selina looks busy enough with all the new arrivals anyway and she never got the feeling Iris would like much contact with her outside of the required work hours.
Slowly she starts to look over the guests as she heads for the bar, mostly just for a destination while she's adjusts to the fancy lifestyle she's somehow ended up surrounded by. Several of the police she recognises just from the aftermath of security problems at the asylum and the rich who so often end up in the papers are noted but Nigma causes her to do a double take and quickly step away to a safer distance. A drink suddenly seems like an even better idea, maybe closer to the police.

"Well hell..." Rooster said to Vassago as she spotted their destination in the distance. She gave tug at the reins and squeeze at her spurs to urge him on.
Soon she was being offered a hand down by one gentleman while a valet looked at Vassago with confusion.
"Ssago, go graze, bubba bo'!"
The horse did not need to be told twice. He went to find himself a patch of grass not far away . She slipped a nice little wad of cash to the valet.
"Make sure he don't leave sight."
Rooster removed her hat and a gentlemen helped her with her coat. Under was a rather artistic looking blue dress. Her hair was neatly but loosely pulled up in a large arrangement. She hardly wore make up, but enough to soften her up just a little. She noticed the commissioner and another gentleman with three women on his arms.
"Well, Commissioner, you stag, too, sug?"
Rooster offered her arm to the commissioner, resisting the urge to shiver at the cold air gracing her dangerously exposed back.

Dick smiled at Kory’s energetic side. She was always ready to have some fun. She was the bright side to harsh times. And he knew that. And when she jumped toward him, he motioned to catch her as she almost flew to him.
Coming into his arms, she had landed and the space between them was diminished as they kissed. He look lightly to it at first, only to get driven to want more. Her arms snaking up around his neck was a sweet reminder of what they could be doing. Yet, they were expected to show up at the Gala.
”You’re looking ravishing as usual,” Dick replied.
He let her go to get ready. Watching her every step and move. It was as light as air. As graceful as her beauty. Only to have her rejoin him in a short time. Guiding her towards the door, he laughed lightly at her response.
”Not exactly,” he replied.
As they made their way done the steps, it wasn’t until Dick saw Roy by the car that he remember they were taking him as well. It was the least he could do for his friend.
”Good, wasn’t planning of having you to my right,” Dick joked with his friend.
He opened the door for Kory as they all started to climb in. There was no need to drag out the time now. They didn’t want to be late.
As they climbed out of the car, the light conversation between them continued.
”It handles nicely. And I wouldn’t expect any less from Selina and Lex throwing a Gala. Surprised by the pairing for this business deal,” Dick commented.
Though he didn’t make a point of getting involved in the business actions between such large companies, unless it concerns him. Then again, who was too know? He did his research to keep up with the pace of the city. Maybe a few more steps ahead when it is allowed.
”You might want to cool down there hot shot. For all you know she could have heard it at one of the local passing bars,” he commented teasingly to his friend.
Little was spoken else wise between the group as they headed in. Dividing up finally as they hit the doors.
”Good to see you again, Selina,” Dick said.
The inside was just as impressive of more so than the grand entrance.

The Lamborghini Diablo pulled up to the front of the Liberta del Mar. The valet opened the passenger door and offered a hand to the occupant. Elise slid from the car with a smile offered to the man as she batted her eyelashes. She straightened his collar. “Take good care of her for me, please,” she said and her hands fell away. She didn’t give him the money, but her driver did. Hale slid the bills over the top of the car with a wink and Elise was soon arm-in-arm with him, waving back to the valet. The lights caught on her silver dress and reflected from her black hair as they entered. She was immediately left by Hale, but that didn’t bother her and she proceeded, a woman on her own without an escort. That is how she found Selina and rushed up to her. “Look at you!” She gasped and then she saw Charlotte. “And you,” she smiled, “pleased to meet you,” she held out her hand to the teenager.

Mr. and Mrs. Arkham strolled through the water entrance way. Melina's arm was threaded through Jeremiah's and every so often she would stop and he with her. They shared commentary about the scenery, the acrobats. He smiled at Selina with a promise to speak to her later as he lead his wife through the building. He wanted her to enjoy herself for once. She was both his wife, a mother, and a wonderful doctor. She deserved a night to enjoy herself and not worry about anything else. He wanted her to enjoy it like when they'd first started dating. He kissed her cheek and held her close and their conversation fell to whispers and she laughed as Jeremiah hummed along with the string music.

Lex Luthor stood greeting guests, resplendent in green and black, standing at the front near Miss Kyle, he gives her a glance as the people start to file in. He used a broad posture, legs planted firmly, broad shoulders set against the room. His watch blinked green for a second and he glanced at it, then smiled, looking back up.
He was careful about his placement with Miss Kyle, the decorations and lights served to augment the structure of the room to draw attention and the flow of people to where Lex and Selina stood, the play of light over them serving to make them seem almost larger than life, as if they were the center of all things. Lex began to greet the guests, starting with the Alien Princess.
He smiled and extended a hand to shake hers. “Princess, a pleasure. I’m glad you could make it from so far.” He nods to her companion “And Mr.Harper, you brought something . . . lovely . . . Mr. Grayson. . . I’m certainly pleased to see that you all were able to attend. I hope you enjoy yourselves this evening.” He smiles at the comment regarding his cohost. “Yes, she is quite something, isn’t she?” He smiles and then looks at Ms. Gleeson.
He smiled at Gleeson. “Ms. Gleeson, I’m glad that you had time to prepare after the press conference. If you have any questions for me, don’t hesitate to ask.” He smiles faintly, and then is stopped dead in his tracks by Bullock. “Yes. . . detective. It’s good to see that you’ve . . . dressed. . . for the occasion.” He looks the detective over once more and shakes hands, before turning to look at the Councilman entering
“Councilman Thorne, and Ms. Finger, I’m glad you had the chance to come. I’m looking forward to seeing what Metropham can do for both of our cities. I’m hoping to speak with you later regarding some of the more practical elements to the refit. But that can wait for now. Enjoy your time here.” He smiled at the both of them.
Lex Luthor’s eyes grew slightly cold for a moment a faint smirk on his face, and then softened as he saw the approach of Nigma. “Mr. Nigma, I was unaware that you’d received your invitation . . . still.” He smiled as he shook Nigma’s hand, a genuine one with lids half closed. “I must say, I’m very pleased to see you here. It honestly wouldn’t have been the same without you.” The handshake and the kiss, he had a faint smile on his mouth afterwards. “I’m offended. Deidre. . . I only plot creation. In everything I do, I work only towards the construction of a better world. Do enjoy your stay, and please. Feel free to enjoy the services. You might find it interesting.” He smiles and turns to the next one. “Don’t let me detain you.”
He looks down at Charlotte next and then smiles faintly “And you. . . must be Charlotte. I’ve heard much about you. It’s good to finally meet you, face to face.” He shakes her hand, and then smiles saying “Enjoy yourself in here.”
As Barbara Gordon approached, he smiled again, a practiced rigor mortis of politeness, mixed with sincerity and genuineness. Say what you will, once you fake sincerity, you’ve got it made. It’s not that he didn’t like Ms. Gordon, but he didn’t know her well. “Miss Gordon, I’ve had the chance to work with your father lately, and it’s been a pleasure, he spoke very well of you, and I admit, had a chance to look over some of your work. If you’re interested in a future career path, I’d personally like to say that I’ll be keeping a close eye on you.” He goes to shake her hand. “Do enjoy yourself tonight.”
He then smiles and turns to Bivins. “And um . . . you. Hello. Yes. . . cheese. Good to see you.” He clears his throat awkwardly and then looks at Montoya saying “Detective Montoya, is it? You work with Detective Bullock at the MCU. . . I’m looking forward to seeing whether LexCorp can do for the MCU what we did with the SCU in Metropolis. I understand that Captain Sawyer is now in charge. We’ve worked together before, and it’ll be good to work together again. Enjoy your time here.”
When Commissioner Gordon approached, he nodded and said “Good to see you, Commissioner, and I’m pleased to see the MCU out here in force tonight. This night is about you as well as anything else. I just hope that what we do over the next few months can really help turn Gotham city around. I believe I saw your daughter here, earlier. She seems quite the young lady.” He smiles and then says “Enjoy your time, it’s about you.”
He smiles as the next group that enters. Royalty, this group he paid especially close attention towards. “Princess Diana of Themyscira. . . I can’t tell you how much I’ve been looking forward to finally meeting you. I’ve heard nothing but amazing things regarding you, that you’re a genuine wonder. I see now that stories of your beauty clearly understated the case.” He takes her hand and bows his head. “As for my vision, it’s the vision of all decent people, for that of a better world, a better life. It’s not my dream that brings us here, but a shared dream of two cities and a world.” He smiles at Tim Drake for a moment and then says “And I believe you’re here with Mr. Wayne. A pleasure to meet you.”
He looks up at Bruce after that, their eyes meet. There’s a moment of taking stock. Eye contact for a moment. The innocent question belied a deeper idea of skepticism. This was a clear play. Lex Luthor smiled and said “What’s different is the thoroughness with which we hope to accomplish our goals. The top security experts on the planet are working on the retrofit, and the amount of resources going into it are unprecedented. We’re basing several ideas on the Stryker’s Island refit, and I feel that the investment will be worthwhile because it’s not merely building stronger walls, but comprehensive solutions that are at the cutting edge of engineering, psychology and science. We’re not here to punish, but to reshape, and we will maintain perfect control of the facility. . . “ He smiles as he says “I think you’ll find that the effect will be impressive.”
The next meeting, however, is pleasant. He smiles at Cobblepot. “Of course. I wouldn’t miss it for the world. We’ll have a drink together after I’m done with the meeting and greeting, before the presentation. Still, we should catch up and have drinks at your lounge sometime. I was there the other night with a friend of mine, and had a wonderful time. I do love your selection.” He smiles and looks at Lola with Cobblepot. “I’m glad you like the decoration. A lot of thought and time went into making certain that our guests enjoyed themselves this evening.”
He nodded to Nathaniel Arkham shaking their hands as they greed “I hope you enjoy yourself this evening. And your father.” He shakes Iris’s hand afterwards “Dr. Ledford, I’ve heard about your work as well, and it’s most impressive. I look forward to working with you in the upcoming months and years. I hope you’ll like all of the things we’re bringing to Arkham. I’m quite excited about it myself.”
He saw Piper Hill approach and smiled as he said “Actually, I made arrangements for that dress for her with a tailor I know in Rome. If you wish for his contact information, though, I’m certain I can make arrangements for you. He’s a wonder, you see, a few photographs and somehow he’s able to make a perfectly tailored dress. It’s practically a superpower, it might actually be one, for all I know. He’s very good, though.”
He smiled then at Ms. Noble and said “A pleasure, I’m glad that you could make it.” He noted Joan Leland, but she didn’t approach, but he nodded to her in case she changed her mind.
The approach of Dr. Arkham, however, was attended to a little more closely. “Doctor, so good to see you again. I was afraid your work would keep you from coming. I haven’t heard back from you about your opinions of the latest changes, but hopefully we can talk later on about some of the practical concerns. "
He ended up with Rooster, smiling as she entered. “Evening, Ms. Blaze. You’re looking fantastic this evening. I’m glad you could make it.” A warmer smile, he continues “I made sure to put something aside especially for you, and I hope you enjoy tonight.” Business Lex, just business for now, but still.
He smiles to the rest as they approach, giving more generic greetings, hellos, welcomes and complements. He was working the room, and business was booming.

Turning to the queue, Selina puts on a smile. It's genuine and belying the fact she's nerves. Quite a few of them. But as soon as the throng of people starts to funnel through the air, and water elements, and with each passing greeting it becomes easier. Especially with the more familiar faces.
It was a break from plastic hellos and welcomes, even as genuine as she tried to make them. But when the flame-haired superhero came close and gave her a warm hug, she felt a bit more at ease. "Welcome! It's so good to see you! And your date, of course!" Selina smirked, hinting to Dick as well. "You look fantastic. And thank you! It was a joint effort, for a fantastic endeavor. I do hope you both enjoy yourselves tonight." With a smile, Selina took the kiss from Kory, not quite sure on how to address her. But with all the warm greetings, she was glad to show she was connected to Gotham with not only her pocketbook, but with her heart. Before Kory moved on they held hands for a moment, the sweet gesture enough to keep her going for a while longer.
To Dick, someone she's known for years, she gives a curt nod as well. "Dick. Good to see you and Starfire could make it." She says, trying to keep herself just as straitlaced as Nightwing is presenting himself. Clearly he is the more somber of the two tonight.
The camera crew was roaming, and where the camera was...ah, there she was. And in that pink dress! Good choice. Selina didn't have time to break away, but would have to catch up to the redhead later.
It was this face and that face, a handshake and whatnot and she saw someone, wait...teal pants? Oh god. Trying to keep her face straight when she saw the tall man go by, she almost flubbed what she was saying to Mrs. Finley. She introduced Lex to Mrs. Finley as she reached behind herself to grab her bottle of water and take a sip.
Harvey Bullock was in teal pants. Pink, or was it salmon shirt, and a jacket. Thank god for the jacket at least. Seriously. Returning to smiling and chattering away when Rowdy was next. "Mr. Yates! Looking dashing tonight, hope you're ready for tonight, no?" She smiled, knowing he would be more than prepared for his songs later.
She's noticed where he had glanced, and looked right into a flashbulb. Vicki Vale had been snapping photos so far of everyone being greeted thus far. She'd have to mention that to Lex for later. Vicki should be able to enjoy herself tonight, instead of working. She knew how dedicated she was.
She hadn't noticed the next couple walking up until she heard the gum smacking. And turning she put on a genuine smile, her cheeks going flush at his action. "Always classy, ..." She murmured, pulling him in for a hug. Eddie certainly looked good tonight. Damn good, if she were being honest with herself. Into his ear she'd murmur, "So does someone else. He shares your passion for emerald, Edward. Look at the bracelet." She would give him a kiss on the cheek, before showing off her emerald bracelet, allowing him time to say a few words if he wished. To Dee she smiled, saying nothing more as the airhead tromped after Edward.
She smiled and acknowledged Charlotte, but had to focus her attention next on..it had to be Roy Harper. No one else could pull an outfit off like him. And his manners. That jovial tone of voice. "Oh Roy, welcome! You're too kind, by the way. I do hope you enjoy yourself this evening. And are ready for your performance, later?"
She smiled, charmed at the fact he shook her hand, to a degree, but then brought it to his lips. Well that was something. Selina watches as Bivins passes by, spasticly ranting about something. Probably on 'reddit,' considering, well, it's Bivins. The kid at least looks nice.
The exotic beauty a few people down the line catches Selina's eye with not only her dress, but her quiet manner. Zahira, if she's remembering correctly. Selina offers a more gentle welcome, shaking her hand and putting her other to clasp over it as she feels a bit chilled. And then it's onward to the next.
...who is someone she hasn't seen in a dress in a long time. Renee looks gorgeous, and she's following Bivins. She'll have to catch them later, as well.
The next couple are radiant. Diana, Princess looks fantastic as the two women go in for a hug, the pair of raven-haired beauties both dressed elegantly. "And you look amazing. I'm glad you could come and help support the cause, Princess. And I do hope you enjoyed your 'blind date,' as well. Not too much for the Princess to be paired with the Prince of Gotham?" She smiled at that, knowing she wouldn't have been able to take Bruce, considering she was hosting the event.
Bruce follows Diana, and is certainly dressed complimentary as well. She notes his gaze, and reaches to answer his question first. "Because I'm heading security, and Lex is backing such an endeavor, Bruce. Why else?" He's acting, and the whole thing irritates her. But such irritation is hid beneath a kind smile, a flick of her eyes only giving in that she knows he's full of shit, and she's not buying it.
She spots a certain dashingly dressed thirteen year old slip by, as well. She greets with a handshake, and a smile, and hopes someone is looking out for him. She's able to spot Gordon with Barbara before they part ways. She makes a mental note to meet up with Jim later, as well, considering he's been pivotal in the renovation project for Blackgate.
The next couple that approaches her makes her light up not only because she's familiar with the two, but because it's Iris. Greeting Nathaniel, Selina doesn't hesitate to hug the other woman, who's simply gorgeous in her floral gown. "Thank you! And...we wanted it to be something more than the stoic venues. So for a proper event debut in Gotham, we found a proper venue!" She smiles, her heart sinking and her smile faltering for a moment when she realizes she had forgotten about Charlotte. A quick look behind her and a hand offered draws the girl from where she was quietly watching, and she brings her to stand beside and a bit before her. "Iris, this is Ms. Charlotte Geier. She's staying with me for a while. Charlotte, this is Dr. Iris Ledford, a good friend of mine, and one of the psychologists at the Asylum. And her boyfriend, Dr. Nathaniel Arkham, another doctor who works there as well."
To say she's proud of the teen would be an understatement. She may not have a fancy degree or title, but sometimes, just being there can help someone. And the transformation in the girl is clear. From her hair, to her smile, to the fact she had worn a dress she picked out.
It makes Selina quite proud.
Almost as much as spotting the next guest. "Oswald. Charming as ever," she blushes slightly at his gesture, a laugh from her lips as he makes an astute comment. "Oh, I may have had a few offers tonight, don't get me wrong. But I do love the challenge my field holds for me." Lola is simply stunning, and Selina is sure to gush over her choice of dress, and accouterments. "Lola! You were correct, your dress is simply amazing!" Air kissing cheeks is a fantastic way to greet one another, and Selina extends her arm to the rest of the venue. "Wait until you get into the rest of the area. Your breath may be whisked away even more!" She motions to Oswald. "Make sure he keeps an eye on you, just in case."
Considering the line is winding down, Selina is quite pleased to see the next bubbly, curved blonde. "Piper," she says with a wickedly fun edge to her voice. "You'd have to ask the man beside me. Custom made, even. A gift for tonight." She states with a raise of her brows. She envelopes the younger woman in a fierce hug, before letting her go. "We'll have some fun, later." She knows the girl is on the hunt for love, and wouldn't mind pointing out a few ladies that are just her type.
Selina spots Joan as she gives a wave in return, another attendee she'll seek out later to personally welcome. She understands that not everyone wants to stand in line for hours, just to say hello.
"Elise!" Selina calls out to her old college friend. "You did make it!" Holding her out at an arms length she clucks her tongue teasingly. "Now that is a fantastic dress. And only you." As Elise addresses Charlotte, she introduces the two. "Elise, this is Charlotte, Charlotte, this is an old college friend; Elise Noble."
After Elise and Charlotte become acquainted, Selina then runs into the man of the hour, and his lovely wife. They, too, care to skip the line, but that is fine. She will be spotting and speaking to at least Jeremiah through the night more often than not.
As the two have finally greeted the guests, Lex offers his arm to her, her hand slipping through his arm as they walk into the venue, only to part after a bit, pausing here and there to chat, say hello, or to quench their thirst. Selina has several guests she'd like to greet a bit more personally than in a formal line.

Hey folks! We have revised guidelines for this part of the Gala! Goal: Mix, mingle, have fun! How to: There is NO POST ORDER. Wait, what?: This part of the Gala is to interact. What you get out of it, is what you put in. Post as quickly, or as not quickly as you prefer. Why: This takes the stress off 'turn based' and 'skipping.' When: Starting now March 18th, 2014 and write until April 1st! There will be a few days to tie up snags before the next phase of the Gala! YOU choose YOUR involvment. Post fast, post slow. Just a tip: Communicating with other's to set up what you would like to do in the Gala sometimes helps. Otherwise, random encounters can be fun. The Gala is primarily to have interactions with characters you would not normally run into. And remember, Selina and Lex will be stopping by to chat with everyone. As always, if there are ANY questions, please contact Lex, or Selina Please be respectful, folks. Remember that just because you want to post, doesn't mean someone else can get to it ASAP. Sometimes they can. Sometimes they can't. PS: Remember, just because you can't see the security, doesn't mean that they can't see you!

Placing her recently emptied flute onto one of the trays that were offered out to her, Summer was glad to discard it. Though she was offered another, she simply smiled and insisted that she was fine. The last thing she wanted was a pink tint on her cheek and clouded head when the cameras started rolling again. Wrinkling her nose at Harvey’s comment, she couldn’t help but mutter an annoyed “In your dreams” under her breath.
Instead, she took the time to mix and mingle with the crowd, giving sickly-sweet introductions and refusing the wide selection of liquor that the party offered. Still exploring the fire region of the venue, she managed to lose herself for a moment as she watched the entertainers preform. Summer wished she could do something that required that much ability and talent. While she considered herself flexible, she certainly didn’t possess the grace that was necessary for it.
Though caught off-guard by the placement of his hand, she turned around nonchalantly, assuming that it was simply Selina coming to great her. Speaking of which – once the crowd died down she needed to make a point to approach her dear friend and congratulate her on the amazing success. The dress she was wearing was gorgeous, appropriately fitting her every curve, though it was not one that she remembered the brunette choosing the day of their shopping trip. It would certainly be something to bring up when she reunited with the woman. While the other dress had been equally gorgeous, this one seemed to rival the other one in the design and stand out amongst the crowd.
However, when she turned to face the man behind her, her smile wavered only for a moment at his speech. “Are you implying that I am not safe here or that I can’t handle myself, because I assure you I can. Thank you for the concern though.” Though the comment did make her slightly nervous, she brushed it off casually. “That would be lovely thank you.” She replied to the first half of his sentence, her voice sickly-sweet as she replied to the second half. “Why, Mr. Nigma! Does that mean you are offering?” Slam innocents with interviews? She merely seized the opportunities that crossed her path. Still, he wasn't going to let him get the best of her.

Seated at the bar in the Fire section, Rowdy Yates took in the view of all the people as he sipped on his grape soda. He was afraid to drink anything stronger because he needed to stay sober for his performance later. He was excited to be singing for Gotham’s finest. Maybe he’d make some new friends tonight, too. The evening was full of opportunities . . . .
Rowdy’s face lit up when he saw Lola Marcs in the distance. Rowdy loved brunettes, and she was quite a looker. He would’ve gone over and introduced himself if Oswald Cobblepot wasn’t with her. Rowdy thought it was best to steer clear of his competition tonight.
A few minutes later, Rowdy watched as Vicki Vale approached. When he waved to her, she suddenly changed direction and walked off somewhere else. He couldn’t believe it. Was she avoiding him?
“Man!” Rowdy whined to himself, pretending to sniff his underarms. “Twice in one night! Do I have B.O. or something?”
He didn’t take it personally. He knew Vicki was busy working the event, but he hoped she would find the time - - no, make the time -- to have some fun, too.

Once the receiving line had died down and all the heavy traffic was gone, Vicki went inside to find Rowdy. Everyone looked so nice. She couldn’t get over the sumptuous elegance of the furnishings. Selina Kyle had definitely outdone herself this time and exceeded Vicki’s expectations. The ambience was beyond anything she had ever seen or could ever imagine.
As she walked, Vicki thought about a special man, but, to her surprise, it wasn’t Ethan Young.
It was Lex Luthor.
Seeing Rowdy in the distance, Vicki kept walking his way until her peripheral vision caught Tim Drake, Bruce Wayne’s ward. Vicki made a beeline straight for him.
“Hello, Mr. Drake. I’m Vicki Vale, a friend of Bruce’s,” she said playfully, announcing herself and giving him more than enough warning before she invaded his personal space. Drawing from personal experience, she knew how uncomfortable and self-conscious younger people could get at these fancy events, and she wanted to put him at ease.
Vicki smiled as she gave Tim the once-over. She noticed his tie, but didn’t say anything. “I’m so glad you could make it this evening,” she continued, smoothing out and straightening his tie. “I saw you over here and had to say hello. You look absolutely -- “
She wanted to use the word “darling,” but she decided to use something more mature-sounding.
“-- dashing.”
When she finished, she smiled softly and smoothed out the shoulders of his jacket. “There. Perfect.”
After giving him a sideways hug and a kiss on the top of the head, Vicki turned and waved good-bye. “Make sure you save a dance for me later, kiddo,” she giggled, walking away. “Believe it or not, Tim, you’re the cutest guy here!”
She meant that.

Still just trying to get her bearings, Charlotte's surprised when she's suddenly greeted. Well, duh, Mr. Luthor is standing right there - she should have said hello to him too, shouldn't she? Oops... Yep, she's definitely too nervous and excited. Fortunately, he doesn't seem to mind and rectifies the problem himself. "Yes, Charlotte Geier," she responds with a smile, her nerves plain to see but also her desire to try to handle all of this correctly. "It's good to finally meet you too, Mr. Luthor," she says with a polite nod as she shakes his hand, "And thank you, I'll try!" Just as soon as her heart stops racing like a hummingbird...
Fortunately, her attempt to stand near Selina without drawing much attention to herself goes off mostly without a hitch, so she's able to get a good look at the people who file by without actually having to interact with them. Many of them she recognises from the pictures that Selina showed her - she's suddenly grateful for that, since there's so many! But she finds herself settling down and taking in the atmosphere - yeah, she can totally handle this!
By the time she's noticed, she's much calmer as Selina introduces her to Dr. Ledford - oh yeah, she was on the list. Selina's shrink, huh... And oh, Selina hadn't mentioned that the woman was dating the younger Dr. Arkham guy... Okay, she can keep that straight, yes. "Pleased to meet both of you!" she offers with a smile. Yeah, meeting people isn't such a big deal, even in such an exciting atmosphere.
Once again she gets ignored, but again she's perfectly fine with that as more guests file past. In fact, she nearly jumps when another suddenly greets her. "Um, pleased to meet you too!" she says with a smile as she shakes Elise's hand. Wow, to all appearances, this woman seems like she might be even more eccentric than Selina... Though that's probably impossible.
And now it seems that she's run out of her excuse to not go and join the crowd, so as Selina and Mr. Luthor head further in she comes along too - again, staying nearish to Selina but trying to keep well out of the way at the same time. At least until... Oh, crap, where did Selina go? You'd think that in such a big, green dress that her guardian would be easy to spot anywhere, but somewhere partway into the fire area she'd gotten distracted by the fire acrobat for just a moment and Selina disappeared in a sea of people.
But Charlotte quickly takes a breath and tells herself it's okay - it's a big place but not so big that she doesn't think that she couldn't hunt down Selina if she really needed to. Besides, she knows a few of the people here already and there's many others from the pictures, so it shouldn't be too hard to find someone to talk to, right? And she's supposed to be having fun and not tagging along with Selina anyway. Though for a moment she just stands there looking a little lost - not trying to find her guardian but just trying to pick out someone to talk to.

“I was wondering when you’d grace me with your presence,” Rowdy mocked playfully, standing and smiling once Vicki finally got over to him. “So how are you? What drama is playing out in the latest episode of The Trials and Tribulations of Vicki Vale?”
Vicki’s eyes widened. “Stop that! You make my life sound like a soap opera.”
“Oh, trust me, babe,” Rowdy replied with a nod. “It is – complete with cillfhangers and organ music!” After an eye roll and a chuckle, he grabbed her, pulled her close, and planted a kiss on her forehead. “You know I’m only kidding, Vee. Lighten up.”
“You’d better be!” Vicki replied, leaning into his embrace. Then she pulled away. “Have you seen Ethan? He dropped me off early for the press conference and was supposed to return when the doors opened. I hope he’s all right. I’m beginning to worry.”
“Ethan’s a big boy,” Rowdy replied, sitting back down on his stool. “Maybe real life is detaining him. You know how things can come up at the last minute all of a sudden.” He inspected her from head to toe. “By the way, you look beautiful.”
Vicki’s cheeks turned rosy. “Thank you, sir.”
Now it was Rowdy’s turn to widen his eyes. “What about me?”
“What about you?” Vicki answered sarcastically with a question. “So what If you look like a hot, buff Chippendale’s Dancer with those bedroom eyes and that chiseled jawline? I wouldn’t dare tell you how handsome and attractive you look! No way! Not me! Never in a million years, . . . stud!”
Rowdy noticed she was trying not to smile. “Nice save,” he whispered with a wink. “Face the music, Vicki.” He chuckled at his soap opera reference, imagining dramatic music playing softly in the background. “You know you want me. Just admit it.”
“Keep telling yourself that, Mr. Yates,” Vicki said, volleying the playful banter. “Whatever it takes to help you sleep through the night . . .“
Rowdy leered at her.
