Her reaction to the voice distorter went better than expected. Of course she couldn’t be afraid of it, or connect any fear to the object. It would be clear that while he was kidnapping her he was using some kind of voice distorted but she had never seen it with her own eyes before. Her voice came out of the distorter and almost made a smile form on his face. Dr. Crane had never heard anyone else use it before.
To him the distorter had many uses. To others it was easily connected that he was using it to be frightening. That was not, however, the only reason he used it. She was laughing, excepting it far better than originally intended. She seemed to be enjoying more and more of what he was doing. He should have been pleased, and a part of him was, but it was a reminder.
He shook his head slightly not being able to share any laughter with her, but he was enjoying hers. “You could use it to introduce yourself to Gotham…” He said while lifting a hand to the machine. “Afterward we can move on to something…” He paused and searched for the right words. “Even more productive for your new show..” He was speaking of course about getting her a guest.
This was not part of his original plan, but she seemed to like the idea. Getting her use to the idea of using the machine worked perfectly into his plan. It would be critical to his research, and what better way to conduct better research with test subjects?

Now that she has her humor fully contained, Heather pauses to consider his words for a moment. Would using the voice distorter be a good thing or a bad thing? "No," she says after a thoughtful moment, setting it down on top of the machine, "My real voice is better. A lot of people in Gotham already know it. Even more people probably know it after the way you dragged me off in the middle of my show." She makes a small face at that - but though it was not a pleasant experience, she has to admit that the publicity was probably good for getting her name out. "Besides, shows that rely on some sort of gimmick are lame," she adds, shaking her head. And she's always prided herself on the fact that she's able to draw an audience based solely on what she says into the mic. There's a certain level of power to that which she's always enjoyed, even though she doesn't really have a goal in mind for that power.
But now that she's got her mind more firmly into the subject of what she wants to do, especially with the idea in mind that she'll have someone to interview, she finds more facets of it coming to mind. Who she interviews doesn't really even matter - she's used to talking to random people and takes pride in her ability to be able to make a conversation with almost anyone interesting. "It would be a good idea to say when and on what station people could tune into it before I really do it - like an advertisement," she muses out loud, as she walks around to the business end of the machine, looking over the various dials as if they may be a source of inspiration, "But I'd only need to do that once - since I'm kidnapped the news networks will take care of telling almost everyone who doesn't hear it." She smirks at that, her whole manner lightening up as she ponders just how easy it will be to get an initial audience.
But her expression fades a bit and a frown takes over again before she adds, "But I still don't know what I'd want to say." She looks back up at Crane and adds, "I mean, I know that if I had someone to interview I could definitely say something, but I don't know where I'd want to go with it." She purses her lips in frustrated thought - it all boils down to that problem once again. Then again, she feels like she's a lot closer than she was.

Dr. Crane listened to VerMillion talk about the distorter he had handed her. He was pleased that she seemed to enjoy it however; it looked like she had no intention of using it. It wasn’t surprising; she had no reasons to think about fear right now. Not unless it was brought up in conversation.
He never was one to get into show business or any type of public appearance or speaking. Aside from the fame he gained as The Scarecrow none of that really mattered to him. The most he ever watched was the news to keep current on the events going on in Gotham. The mass media never appealed to him very much until just recently. When his plan had finally formed everything just started to flow into place perfectly. This station was a part of it…
The nodded in agreement as she began to talk about advertisement. It was definitely a good start. For a moment he looked to the side lost in thought. It would definitely be a good start, but what would she be advertising? Her talking to normal people? No…It needed to be something far more interesting. Something that would catch many people’s attention. A reason to make them crawl to the edge of their seats and turn the radio up.
Looking back to her already having an idea in mind he raised his hand to his midsection and turned his palm. “ You’re guests I’m sure will be quite riled to begin with that they are even here. You could…analyze them.” A sinister smile crept onto his face as he thought about his research. “Get them to talk about their anxiety of being here….Or what they think is going to happen to them…” Obviously he was hinting towards something. In a way he wanted her to think about what she couldn’t feel at the moment, she would at least be able to take it in a different way, perhaps even a curious way.

While Crane may have only a passing interest in mass media, Heather has hardly done anything but live, work, and breathe it for the past several years. And she has very good instincts on top of that - that's what led her to her show. And then to here, perhaps. So much goes into the seemingly inane chatter people listen to when they're stuck in traffic on their way to and from work everyday - there's so much art and finesse to the whole thing that probably goes way over most people's heads. She herself couldn't necessarily explain the finer points of it, but she knows what works and what doesn't.
So when he offers his suggestions, she lets the idea bounce around in her head for a moment as if examining it for weakness. "Analyze them?" she asks out loud, then laughs a little, "I'm not a psychiatrist. Actually, I got a B- in that class - General Psych, I mean. Professor Holloway was boring." She makes a face but her frown remains thoughtful, hinting that in spite of her initial negative appraisal of the idea she's not discarded it yet.
In fact it's only a few moments later, after her gaze turns back to the machine in front of her, that she adds, "Well, as interesting as fear is to you, it's just not enough to hold most people's attention. I mean, it would for awhile - like watching a train wreck - but eventually they'd turn it off and move on with their lives. Especially if it happens a lot." But her frown suddenly disappears when that triggers an idea, "Then again, my favorite part of interviewing people has always been asking them questions they don't like... And those are some of them... And there's nobody to tell me that I shouldn't ask any question I feel like, is there?" Ooh, now that is an interesting thought... She suddenly looks up again with a mischievous smile on her face. Yes, she definitely likes that thought a lot.

There were many reasons for having Heather around, most of which benefitted Dr. Crane. Her being most socially adept to the world was one of the main reasons. It was meant to be, that car wreck that day. She fit just perfectly into his plan.
He leaned back a bit into the machine as he listened to her. The name Professor Holloway grabbing his attention. “Unfortunate.” He stated pulling his chin to the side for a moment as he thought about it. “If you would have been in my class perhaps you would have learned something, rather than societies take on what the mind does and how it works..”There was an amount of contempt in his voice. With a light shake of his head he would say nothing more about it. He knew this Professor of course, they were in the same portion of the Gotham University building and had to follow certain curriculums.
Dr. Crane’s class of course was always being taught something different. They were actually learning something significant. Boring was just one of the many words that described that certain professor, it was just one more connection to every event that had happened. Something inside him made Dr. Crane want to make everyone that worked at Gotham University pay…
They were all guilty after all…
The life returned to his eyes as he came back from thought of the University and Professor Holloway. His attention went back to Heather as she mentioned that fear…didn’t hold people’s attention? His shoulders dropped and he shook his head slightly. “Fear is the reason attention can be held at all…” he added to her statement. Her last comment made him smile slightly, there was quite a darker side to the screaming, fragile woman that he had before. “You can ask whatever you want…and there is no one to stop you…What kind of questions did you have in mind?”
Dr. Crane knew what kind of questions he would ask, but to convince her of doing that would take time. She would have to see more of his work and get more inwardly involved in it. It would all come in time..

The comment on Heather's former professor simply gets a shrug. Now that she has her degree, how much she learned from a particular class means little to her. And Crane wasn't even an option by the time she was taking that class - and she doesn't know that she's unhappy about that. She remembers reading somewhere that his students were generally not too fond of him as a teacher.
And his comment on how fear relates to attention gets a frown and a headshake as she comments, "If that was true, then the media would give you more attention. But they don't. Some people, the Joker especially, get a lot more attention than you. You're always fear this, fear that. People get bored of hearing about that. They report most of what the Joker does because you never know what he'll do next. My show is so popular because people never quite know what I will say next. If my show was all fear all the time, it never would have gotten off the ground - maybe three people would listen. People like to be surprised. That's why variety shows are a thing." She shrugs and shakes her head again, as if waving off what she said as her simply saying it as it is rather than her saying that it's any reflection on her own personal opinion.
As if in testament to how little she cares for her own words, her attention quickly shifts to the question he asks. Her frown lifts a bit in thought, though she simply answers by saying, "I don't know. But - well, I do my research first and all that - but I'm not the type to write these things down first and I always come up with something good anyway." Something she can say with some amount of confidence. Partly because, even though it wasn't her normal thing, she's interviewed people for the radio before. And also because she's having a very hard time being anything but confident right now.

Dr. Crane kept his composure as she spoke. His eyes never turned from her and his expression never changed. Something was definitely off though. Not that he was ever to stable to begin with. Her long winded speech on how much she knows about the media and fear didn’t seem to faze him at all. He would have to correct her however.
“The media gives me far more attention that I would like..” he commented first leaning inward a bit and thinking over what she had said. She knew that the FBI had hunted him down, but she never knew about what went on afterward. That was good, he wanted to keep it that way for now, and when the time was right he would show her The Scarebeast.
“You speak like you know what fear is…Fear is the reason that the media exist at all. You may have to check back on your sources with The Joker…” He said while his mind wandered over to their many encounters. The Joker was certainly unpredictable at times, but not anymore than Dr. Crane was. There was one thing that truly set them apart. “The very same can be said about the Joker, His drive is the Batman…everything will be revolved around that. I, unlike many of others in my profession, do not focus on a single vigilante. I am just here to show the world the meaning of their lives…” He leaned back against the machine again.
Fear and the word boring didn’t even make any sense. Of course it did if you were on brave toxin, which she had a healthy dosage of. Anything that involved a concept she couldn’t currently grasp wouldn’t be able to hold her interest. She also was quick to forget how focused on fear she was previously….It was beautiful.
“I’d say in this case you’ll want to do your research again…or at least be taught properly. “ He paused and waved his hand for a moment brushing off the subject. He wasn’t bothered by it, he just simply needed to correct her. “You’re young, You’re naïve, You’re beautiful; I’m sure you know what you’re doing when it comes to the media, I expect you’ll find something not ‘boring’ to talk about..” He stopped leaving it to her to find the hidden meaning behind his words.

When Crane starts to talk, Heather calmly listens, though her expression grows somewhat amused after several moments. The man is rather defensive about his pet subject isn't he? Thinking that she meant more than what she said. And she rolls her eyes when he comments that she needs to be taught properly. But she doesn't bother to comment, knowing that her body language will communicate her opinions adequately enough without adding words to it.
It isn't until his last comment that she opens her mouth to say something, but then she suddenly stops again when what he said really sinks in. "Hold up - you think I'm beautiful?" she asks, genuinely surprised. While she's gotten a lot of compliments on her appearance, that's an abnormal one. Usually younger fans refer to her as being 'pretty' or 'cool'. Older people who appreciate her style and girls call her 'cute' fairly often. Guys closer to her own age are more likely to deem her 'hot'. But 'beautiful'? That's one she doesn't hear very often at all. Though to judge by the fact that her expression is one of pleasant surprise, she likes it.
But, once she overcomes her surprise, she adds the comment she was going to make before that thought brought her mind to a screeching halt for a moment there. "And all I said is that people wouldn't listen to a radio show that's too focused on just fear. Not that it isn't important, or whatever - that's not my thing. This is," she says, gesturing at the machine, "I know what people will listen to. It rarely has anything to do with how much something actually matters. If you want people to listen while you talk about something that matters, you have to mix it in with something else." She rolls her eyes and shrugs again, expressing her opinion of the radio-listening audience. Of course, she's not saying that she thinks that fear matters; it seems pretty trivial to her at the moment, actually - it's an emotion for pity's sake! But she can at least reassure him that she's not trying to argue what he seems to think she's trying to argue.

Dr. Crane could always talk about fear for hours. It was one of the few subjects that he didn’t often find a reason to stop talking about. Otherwise he was more of a social recluse. VerMillion however had him talking far more than normal.
Carefully he pushed himself off of the equipment as she mentioned that he thought she was beautiful. The doctor played over the words for a moment trying to think of the best way to handle this. He had indeed called her beautiful, but not exactly in the way that she had taken it. “I do..” He replied feeling rather awkward afterward. She had singled out the other words he had named her and focused on the single one she liked best.
Dr. Crane knew what he wanted done with the radio show and she would do it whether she knew she was accomplishing or not. That was the beauty of his plan, it was perfect, and there was no possible way it could fail. He nodded slightly as she explained that fear wasn’t her thing. How wrong she was, but she couldn’t understand that right now. “Perhaps…I can give you a lesson on fear sometime now that you’re not frantic.” He smiled actually seeming quite proud of his work.
Dr. Crane reached out of her hand and took it in his pulling her over to the other side of the machine. His fingers wrapped around the chair in front of the machine and slid it out for her to sit in. He didn’t think of it as a kind gesture though most would see it as that, he had his work in mind. Among other things. The whole incident itself had reminded him of something. To shake it off he simply moved from the chair he expected her to sit in and played with the dials some. “I am sure you know what to say. How many stations do you want to intercept at once?...All of them?” A sinister smile appeared over his face as he touched the dials, but it faded as he turned to face her and wait for her answer.

Heather didn't exactly filter out the other words, only questioned the one that surprised her. Being called young is a compliment, while being naive... well, she could argue with that, but she doesn't care to. She's not really one to care what people think about her, except if it's positive. Which is why she smiles a little when he confirms his own statement, though she doesn't quite know what to say to that.
Fortunately, though she's oblivious to the awkwardness following that, the conversation shifts onto something she actually has something to say about. Not that she has any real strong opinion about whether or not Crane teaches her something about fear. Though that last word, 'frantic', causes her to pause and frown for a moment. When was she frantic? Well, yes, she remembers she was acting that way at a few different points around Crane. She can't really remember why though. But she shrugs that pondering off as she responds, "If you want to, sure." That does sound like it could be interesting. Or very boring, but she'll decide when it happens.
But then her attention shifts as he takes her hand again and leads her to the chair. She smiles to herself as she takes a seat, eyes drifting over to all the dials. She nods when he comments on knowing what to say - yeah, telling people when she's going to broadcast next is easy. In fact, she doesn't even have even the slightest bit of butterflies like she usually did before being on the radio, at least until she eased more into her VerMillion persona. But her thoughts on that are suddenly interrupted by his question. "It can do that?" she asks, surprised again. She'd thought from what he said earlier that it could only override one station at a time, but all of them at once! That just makes it all the more cooler! A smile comes to her face, "Well, yeah, the more the better. Though if I'm telling everyone when to tune in later, when should that be?"

He wondered exactly how attentive of a student VerMillion was capable of being on the Brave Toxin. Soon he was going to have to take into consideration that she needed to come off it eventually, even if it’s just for a little while. Before he would do that though he was going to have to tell her about what exactly he did to her. What an explanation that was going to be.
His fingers turned the dials a bit more as he listened to her trying to catch a few stations. “It has the potential yes, As you can see..” He turned around to the several wires and pieces of equipment lying around behind him. “It’s still under construction, I can’t promise every station at once this moment, but eventually…If you want you can start with your old station.” Turning back to the station under his fingers he moved the dials a few more times until he had her old station’s frequency.
Dr. Crane moved from where he was among the wires to pull out a large set of headphones. After untangling them he handed them to her and plugged them in to one of the jacks. He thought for a moment about when exactly she should advertise for. It never took him long to find a patient, if he went out to get one, he almost always came back with one. “How about the day after tomorrow?” He said turning his gaze finally to her. Everything was ready, now all that was left was for her to make her first announcement.

In her present state, and to a lesser degree when she's not on brave toxin, Heather's learning ability directly corresponds to her interest level. The way she presents herself may fool someone into thinking that she's stupid, but she's actually quite intelligent - had Professor Holloway not been 'boring', she most certainly would have gotten a better grade. True, one's grades in college aren't purely a measure of intelligence, but she's always been good at the teacher-pleasing aspect too. The question is, how much would she apply that to Crane?
"Oh," she replies as he clarifies just how functional the machine is. Well, it will be cooler later, then, but she can't help but be somewhat disappointed since he made it sound like I was for a moment there. But his suggestion to override her old station is a good one, so she nods to it quickly, "Oh, yeah - WGGZ is affiliated with the Gotham Gazette - if I interrupt them then everyone will hear about it." Which is just as good as overriding all the stations. Well, not really, but if they can't do that then it's an acceptable substitute. Nothing like messing with the media itself to get the attention of the media, and if you get the media's attention then that's like telling everyone - well, unless they live under a rock.
She takes the headphones that he offers and instantly recognizes the show currently on the air - it's that politics show that's on just before hers. She's always hated that show! The thought of interrupting it makes her smirk. She idly finds herself speculating about her own show, since she's not going to be there tonight to do it. They'll probably get that girl they used last time she was unavailable to cover for her, and that makes her frown. Nobody is as good at it as she is, and she still remembers people telling her how boring it was without her hosting. But that thought doesn't make her worry - nothing makes her worry at the moment.
The timeline he gives her gets a nod - yeah, that should give her enough time to more fully prepare for her new show. Not that the preparation will involve more than idly thinking about it in the back of her mind for awhile. She's found some value to letting ideas 'settle' for a bit before she actually uses them. Of course, she has no idea that Crane intends to influence that process a bit as well.
When his expression seems to turn somewhat expectant, she says, "Just a sec." If she weren't under brave toxin, he might mistake her for having to get over some nerves, but just because she's fearless doesn't mean that she doesn't need a moment to collect her thoughts. There's a difference between being Heather and being VerMillion. It's not something so drastic as what someone with dissociative identity disorder experiences; rather, it's like switching to a different mental gear or 'mode'. The difference isn't as obvious with the brave toxin influencing her, since VerMillion has a certain boldness that the more timid Heather lacks. But even when Heather isn't afraid, VerMillion is still bolder, faster, and much more energetic. Though perhaps the biggest difference is that VerMillion is extremely opinionated and quick to express her opinions, while Heather tends to keep that more to herself. On the other hand, Heather is much more relaxed than her alter-ego. Sometimes switching between the two takes her a few minutes, but with the toxin in her system the difference isn't as big as it could be, and it's only a few moments later that VerMillion says, "Ready."
Not bothering to wait for a break in the broadcast she's going to interrupt, she instead starts talking the moment that she's on the air. "Hellooo, Gotham! Sorry to interrupt this fascinating conversation, but I have a quick announcement to make. This is VerMillion, and as I'm sure everyone's heard that a lot of crazy shit has happened to me. But it gets better! In two days time I'm making my triumphant return to the radio waves, so I'd like to invite all of my devoted listeners to be sure that they tune in. That said, I'll now return you to your regularly scheduled, boring political commentaries," she says, allowing her words to be quick without rushing them. Though before she releases control of the frequency, she finds herself adding, "Oh, and Justin, you're an idiot. And Lewis, you're not funny." She's always thought so, and she sees no reason not to tell them as much while she has the chance.
Taking herself back off the air, she finds herself laughing at the moment of dead air that follows her interruption, as well at the dumbfounded exclamations following that. Especially since it's Lewis that's the first one to recover, and he does so by attempting to sound casual by commenting, "Well, we weren't expecting that..." and laughing at his own non-joke - instantly proving her right. She can only imagine the chaos that created at the station, some people trying to get the broadcast back on track while others trying to figure out what happened. "That was a riot," she comments to Crane, before she laughs again.

It seemed like Heather was fully enjoying the position she had been put in. She seemed to enjoy the thought of interrupting her old station, even furthered by it reaching the papers. Just the thought of it made Dr. Crane shift slightly from where he was.
Heather put the headphones on and listened intently. All Dr. Crane could do is sit back an idly watch as she went to work. He said nothing as she asked for a moment, obviously pausing and taking over her persona. It was difficult choosing exactly which side of her he liked more. VerMillion was certainly more outspoken and rebellious, Heather he had mostly seen timid and under tense terror. Both of them were wonderful choices. It brought his mind back to the effect that the Brave toxin has had on her, it really has brought out the VerMillion in her, and more than her show ever could.
When she expressed that she was ready he watched her turn into the mic and begin her announcement. His thought immediately went to what an uproar must be happening at the broadcasting station at the moment. It made him lean into the equipment some, his eyes becoming focused deep within his thoughts. He had barely heard as she made fun of two others that must have been on the show prior to hers. No, his mind was far too focused on the chaos that he had just caused….she had just caused. Right now they were flipping up there papers and scurrying about the station asking each other what was going on. They wouldn’t be the only ones panicking as they lifted the phone to alert the authorities. The listeners in Gotham would be rather confused, sitting in their homes or their cars. The sight was beautiful, if only he could see it all at once in front of him…
His eyes lifted from the world they had slipped into to lock his gaze with VerMillion’s again. She was laughing. “Wonderful” He commented on her performance with a single word. Dr. Crane crossed his arms and tilted his head wondering if now was the right time to bring it up. Now that it was after the introduction, and she was feeling good, it may be a better time than any. He wanted to do it before he caught a guest for her as well, so she would be more prepared with what she was dealing with. “VerMillion…” He spoke softly, lifting himself from the equipment to walk beside her just a few feet. “Do you remember what I shot you with the night before last?” He spoke bluntly, trying to get her to think about it on her own. He wondered what effect the brave toxin would have on her simply talking about it.

There's probably not very many people on the planet who wouldn't enjoy causing some sort of massive havoc among current or former bosses and coworkers. Working is, after all, work even when it's something you enjoy and causing chaos is fun. But they don't do that because they'd worry that they'd get fired, arrested, or harm someone. But VerMillion doesn't have that problem right now.
Instead she laughs at Lewis's sputtering, makes guesses about just how long Justin will remain speechless, and pictures the madness back at the station. She'd love to be able to see it herself, but since she knows the people there the image in her head is bound to be pretty accurate. Not unlike what happens when you disturb an ant nest, really. She leans back in the chair, just listening for a few moments.
When her laughing finally stops she settles into a self-satisfied grin, which is hardly lessened by Crane's one-word summary, as she removes the headphones. Yep, she's definitely glad that she did that - it was fun! It makes her wonder just how much fun it will be to do something more extensive with this machine. Especially if they're overriding more than one frequency.
Mulling all of that over, her thoughts are interrupted by Crane saying her name. "Hmm?" she says, thoughts being pulled back more to the present. But though the question he asks when he comes closer causes her forehead to wrinkle for a moment in annoyance at the memory, she's indeed in a very good mood and that emotion doesn't linger. "Yeah, that dart that made me 'feel very good about myself'?" she quotes, her tone somewhat sarcastic since she still doesn't believe that's what it does, "What about it?"
Though she can't put her finger on exactly what that drug is doing, she's pretty confident that she feels the same way about herself that she did before. Perhaps she would have been able to figure it out by some sort of process of elimination if she was concerned enough about it to want to know, but she has a really hard time being concerned about anything for more than brief flashes at a time. She's aware that she was drugged, is pretty sure that she still is, knows that it's affecting her thought process somehow, but none of that really bothers her.

Havoc and chaos was two things that he loved creating. Especially in his former profession. Nothing would bring him more pleasure than to do it again, which he would get the chance. This time with another motive in mind, instead of the patients it would be the staff. He didn’t want it so much that it was fun more than the scientific aspect; it was all about his research….but with a certain staff member…It was all too personal…
The inward satisfaction that came with everyone panicking at the station settled, he was sure later in the week he would hear more about it. Perhaps it would even make its way on to the paper in the morning. It was just the beginning of a glorious part in his plans, and VerMillion had executed it perfectly.
He almost wished that he brought a clipboard in with some notes to write down her reactions. It wasn’t often he got the opportunity to actually speak with someone on the effect of the brave toxin, about the toxin itself. It was an excellent learning experience, and an attribute to the beauty of his work. Right now however, he was just going to have to memorize as much as he could.
“Well It did indeed make you feel good about yourself…” he thought for a moment shifting in his position and raise a hand to explain. “That’s simply because you were incapable of feeling the fight or flight reaction, the synapse right before you tell yourself whether you should be afraid of a situation or not. I gave you a rather generous dosage of Brave Toxin. I’m sure you’ve heard of it before with the previous research you did on myself…”
He wasn’t sure exactly how she would take hearing that at first. She wouldn’t fear it, that much was certain. However she didn’t have to like it, and he couldn’t imagine why she would until it began to wear off. Regardless he had never actually gotten the chance to ask anyone before so it was really up in the air.
