In Short:
1. Register for an account again.
2. Either apply for a new character as normal, or repost your old app if you want the same character again. If you don't have a copy of your old app, ask a staff member - we probably have a copy of it in the staff archive.
3. Wait for approval, and you're back in.
FAQ
I went inactive or did something even worse when I left, am I allowed back?
The only people who are not welcome to come back are people who are banned, regardless of anything else about why left. And even banned people usually don't have the door shut on them completely (but I'll explain that in a later question). So if you feel really, really guilty for going inactive - don't worry, we're not mad (though please try not to do that again). Even if you ragequit and feel like you burned down all the bridges before you left, if I never told you that you were banned, you're still welcome. With the understanding that if people are still mad, they're gonna be mad - you can't escape that, but at least you know we'll let you in.
Can I play the same character again?
Probably. If you were playing a canon character that's especially popular, and you just barely went inactive, and we have no reason to believe that you won't just go inactive again, we may object to that because that's not good for anyone. However, don't assume that this applies to you - ask! Whether the canon you want is less popular than you think it is or it has been awhile since you played them, odds are that this won't apply to you. If it does turn out to apply to you, that means that we want to give someone else the opportunity to play the character. If the character stays available for awhile and nobody claims them or if someone claims them and drops them, then we'll let you try again.
So what do I need to do to reapply?
Reapplying is very easy. If you happen to want a new character, reapplying is exactly like applying the first time. If your old character is available and you want them back it's even easier because you can usually use your old app again. Post it and it will probably be instantly approved because it's already up to spec. There is a slight chance that if you have a very old app that we'll ask for improvement because we have slowly raised the bar a little over time, but that would mean only a slight edit and that's way easier than writing it from scratch.
What do I do if I don't have a copy of my old app?
Unless you happened to delete it for some reason when you left, we store all old apps in the staff archive instead of deleting them - that way they're safe from copy/pasting people but we still have them on hand for this very situation. So all you need to do is ask one of the staff members for a copy.
What about banned people?
If someone who is banned wants to come back, things get a little bit tricky because people don't get banned around here for minor things. However, I'm always willing to discuss what it would take for a banned person to return if that's what they want - generally that means that whatever they were banned about needs to be worked out so that we can all be assured that it won't happen again.
