Dr. Crane couldn’t help but remind himself this is why he didn’t leave the lab very often. It was impossible to stop running into incompetent people and as of recently, his less than friendly acquaintances. There best option was indeed to leave all of this mess behind and go somewhere else, preferably home.
Dr. Crane continued to try and move out of the booth only to be met by Joker moving into the way. His eyes locked with the Joker’s just in time to be pushed back into the booth. Dr. Crane was quick to react, catching himself on the corners of the table and booth before he fell completely. He grunted as he hit the booth his eyes turning to glare at the Joker. “I said I have no business with you Joker…” Dr. Crane gritted out having little desire at all to speak with him, especially in this public of a place.
The Jokers focused had changed completely and turned toward VerMillion, his initial taunts were heard but ignored. Dr. Crane wasn’t going to answer any of his ridiculous rhetorical questions. His immediate impression was that they were some sort of couple, as more than half of Gotham was probably assuming after all the rumors. They seemed to spread like wildfire throughout the professional criminal world. It was his last sentence that caught his attention.
It was true; his toxin didn’t work on him the last time it had been used. There had been several changes to his formula’s sense then but the main ingredient would never change. He doubted that the potency would make much of a difference in this case. The thought that it didn’t work the first time still raced through his mind. There was no way it couldn’t work, Joker was just a human, how did it not work!?
His eyes seemed to get lost for a moment as he thought over the events again, trying to think of any logical explanation for what had happened. His serum was the only truth in the world, it was explainable why it didn’t work on animals and some types of hybrids, they simply didn’t have the capacity to understand. The Joker was an entirely different story, he had actually resisted his toxin completely, it had no effect. Though Dr. Crane knew with confidence he couldn’t die, it did cause quite a problem that evening.
The thought that he could actually have VerMillion didn’t seem to bother him in the slightest outwardly. He wasn’t going to show his distaste for the subject matter, especially in front of Joker. He could spout out his insults and his jests, it would get him nowhere. The rather annoying German stepped in and began to speak, making Dr. Crane change his focus to VerMillion. It was an excellent opportunity to leave if he could grab The Joker’s attention. Let him deal with the clown…
Raising himself back up in his booth his hands traveled to his scotch glass, running his index finger around the top of it. His mind was already planning ahead if the stupid German was able to keep The Joker distracted, if only for a moment it would give them enough time to remove themselves from the situation. He didn’t fear the Joker…Of course he didn’t, but he had no desire to deal with him tonight.
