Victor was ducking under a punch the man was throwing when the ground suddenly vanished. He yelped at the sudden movement of Superman hoisting him up off the ground. He held his breath waiting for what would happen next. He let out his breath when he heard what Superman said. "Ok I agree." He said as soon as he recovered his senses.
Victor had the strange feeling that he had met Superman before. It was something about his smell. He couldn't see his face and so he simply shrugged it off.
"He was in a tree acting strangely before the bomb went off." He said. "I think he was involved." Victor said looking at the remains of his camera sadly. Trying to throw the crowd off the trail of what he was really doing. He didn't know that Phoebe was in the crowd, or that she could read his mind. "Could you put me down please?" He asked.

Superman smiled at Victor's reaction, 'Ok so this man is not a fighter at heart.' He thought He lifted him about higher and looked him sternly in the eye and said. "If your lying to me I'll make sure your punishment is fitting." Granted he was simply going to hang him from a lamp post nothing painful. But he didn't know that.
He lowered Victor to the ground and then lifted the other man with both hands and looked at him just as sternly as he did with Victor. "What were you doing in a tree?" He sternly asked the man. As he waited for a response he thought hoping that the voice before was still listening. "Read their minds. I want to know what they are really thinking. Is he really going to relax and what this guy here is thinking." Again he hoped that the voice was listening and what was going on.

Indeed, Phoebe is still listening to Superman's thoughts. Mostly because he actually makes her pretty nervous. Anyone else here wouldn't have a prayer of getting through the now extremely close-fitting shield that she has around herself, mostly because she hardly wants to open her mind far enough to listen to all these nervous and uncertain minds that are surrounding her. Better to just keep her shield up rather than worry that she'll miss some sign of something happening that will make her want it. But if Superman wanted to either harm or even just stop her, she doesn't know what would happen. She doesn't know how possible it is that she could be stronger, but she knows that she's definitely not weak at all. Mostly she doesn't want to end up in a situation to test that and she doesn't trust that Superman wouldn't try if he found out who she is.
Yet his request that she read their minds stops her from leaving. Finding out whoever did that to the bridge is important, after all, so checking for him is the least she can do. She only has to take a moment with Victor - it only takes her an instant to sense the sincerity of his thoughts. I know the guy with the gray hair - he's a good guy, and he's telling the truth, she answers. At least, she's as sure as she can be about him being a good guy, but she's not nearly as sure of her own judgment as she used to be. What if he'd meant well but fighting the guy from the tree was wrong?
Shaking off that thought, she turns her attention to the guy from the tree now, and an angry frown immediately creases her face as he launches into a story about how he was only in the tree to get a good view of the ceremony and not meaning any harm. The story of his thoughts is completely different. The other guy is lying! He was in the tree because his boss told him it would be a safe spot to see the explosion close up, she reports, sounding disgusted. Liar! She hates liars! And not only that, he knew the explosion was going to happen and didn't tell anyone! Obviously the guy knows a lot more than that about the situation, but that plus just how scared he is to be held by Superman of all people is all that he's thinking about the moment.

When Phoebe read Victor's mind he didn't notice her presence in his mind. He was trying to put distance between him and Superman. Just in case things went wrong. He was also trying to find out where he had smelt that smell before.
When he finished taking five steps back he stopped and felt a light bit of panic. He reached into his pocket and found that the memory card was still intact. He sighed in relief and then suppressed a frown when he heard Lupin.
'Someone just entered our minds.' The wolf said.
'Well I'm still in control of myself and we're not being tortured so lighten up.' He replied jokingly.
'Sorry about your camera.' Lupin added.
'We can always by another one.'
Then he realized where he smelt that smell before. He realized that Superman was Clark! He took a close look at Superman's face and realized that Superman looked just like Clark. He was now standing where he was with the spare memory card held in his right hand and a wide eyed stare trying to wrap his mind around what he had just found out.

Superman was relieved when he heard the voice tell him what he needed to know. He kept hold on the stranger and gave Victor a nod. He then glared harshly at the man in his grip.
He listened to the man tell his story and then listened to the voice. "Your lying." He said sternly. It wasn't a threat.... More he was just making a statement. He flew a few feet higher into the air and held the man closer to his face. "Who hired you?" He asked. "You better tell the truth, I'll know if your lying." Granted that last part wasn't completely true. There was a third person involved.
"If you lie to me I'll find someplace to hang you by your underwear." He said. "And I'll give the police directions that will leave you hanging there for at least two hours." He said sternly, the look in his eyes made it clear that he was telling the truth.

The man in Superman's grip pauses for a moment, a frightened look coming to his face before he struggles feebly against the hand holding him and claims that he hasn't the slightest idea what Superman is talking about and swears that he's innocent. But the questions and threats have thrown the man's mind into a turmoil that gives Phoebe plenty of information she can give Superman. He's lying because he doesn't know where his boss is, but he thinks that he might still be around and always has his guns with him... oh, it's that Two Face guy. He's more scared of having a 50/50 chance of being shot than being hung up by his underwear and arrested, she reports, not sure what to make of that situation.
For the moment, her desire to get out of here is gone, since she's actually somewhat invested in this situation now. Besides, she's just one of a whole crowd of people gaping as the superhero questions an apparent accomplice of whoever bombed the bridge so it's not like she's that conspicuous at the moment. A part of her is actually encouraged by the fact that the guy thinks that his boss might still be around - maybe she can help catch a bad guy again? She always did love that part of the job, even though it's a bit soured by the fact that it turns out that some of the people she caught for the FBI shouldn't have been. But this is different - Two Face bombed a bridge so he definitely deserves it!
Of course, she doesn't realize that the rogue fled the scene the instant that Superman appeared, making his getaway while they were attending to the bridge. One thing that pretty much any Gotham rogue has in common is that they don't want to mess with Superman - at least when they don't have any kryptonite handy.

Victor stood where he was looking at Superman. 'Clark? He's Clark?' He thought, he took a few minutes trying to find out what to do. He then noticed that Superman was seeing through the man's act. 'See Lupin it was him.' Victor said to the mental wolf.
Victor looked around and decided that he could still help out. Victor took a step towards Superman then spun around putting his arms out to his side and waving at the crowd. "Alright there's nothing to see here!" He called to the crowd. "The police are right. Everyone should just leave." He said trying to help the police disperse the crowd. 'I'm going to try and talk to Superman when I get the chance.' He commented to Lupin.
'Well don't pressure him.' Lupin responded.
'I know how to politely ask.' Victor said back.

Superman looked at the man and raised an eyebrow when he heard what the voice said. "So Two-Face, eh?" He commented. "Well I won't leave you to him." He said before turning around in mid air and flying over to the police chief.
He roughly put the man on the ground infront of the police chief. "Here you go. He was hired by the man known as Two-Face, He might still be in the area. I'll help with the clean up." He said. Then he flew to start cleaning up the debris. He asked the owner of the voice. 'So Victor works with the police? He seems to be rather good at it.' He didn't realize that Victor simply wanted to get the crowd away.

Now that the interrogations are over, Phoebe figures that now would be a good time to leave. Yet she can't help but watch as Superman just delivers the guy to the police rather than carry out the threat for lying to him. Her brow furrows in thought at that for a moment.
She's about to say goodbye when Superman interrupts her thoughts by asking about Victor. Him? No, he's not a cop. He takes pictures, she replies, I'm going to talk to him now, though, so thanks for fixing the bridge - I couldn't have done that. Her mental touch is light enough that people can't tell when she enters or leaves a mind, so it's only polite for her to tell them when she's leaving.
After giving Superman a chance to say goodbye, she turns her attention toward Victor and sees him seemingly lost his thought even as he tries to help shoo the crowd. The group she's among starts to break up, but she's distracted enough to not pay much attention to that. Instead she moves to Victor's mind and says, Hi! This is Force. Sorry about your camera. She caught his thought about wanting to talk to Superman when she 'came in', but that seems like a normal enough thought. While she may be uncertain about him herself, she knows that a lot of people idolize the man.

Victor finished shooing the crowd and turned to what remained of his camera. He stooped down and started to pick up the remaining pieces. He sighed, 'Well there goes my photography job for a few weeks.' he thought.
He mentally flinched when he heard the new voice in his head.
'I told you there was someone else!' Lupin snapped then both man and wolf relaxed when they heard the voice introduce itself.
'Hi Force.' Victor replied. 'Its alright. I can always buy a new one.' He said. 'I got the important part right here.' He added patting his pocket with the memory card in it.
'Yeah my little pup has grown up sice we last met.' Lupin said. 'He's gone and fal-' But before Lupin could finish Victor cut him off with a mental grunt. And a loud one at that.

'Your welcome. And thanks for helping me with the two men.' He said. Superman then looked around as he finished the part of the cleanup that he felt involved pieces of debris that were too heavy for the average man too lift.
He looked around and saw Victor stooping over the remains of his camera. He looked around some more and thought about talking to Victor. Simply saying that he didn't mean to rough him up like that. After a few seconds more of thought he decided to go over and talk to Victor.
He landed softly behind Victor and said. "I'm sorry for your camera and for having handled you like that." He said. "I couldn't be sure what you were up too." He looked at the pieces of camera in Victor's hand and waited to see what the man would do.

Phoebe is surprised by what Lupin says when she goes to Victor's mind. You knew I was here?! she asks, sounding surprised and even a bit alarmed, The only people who have ever felt me do that before were really, really, really good telepaths. And she finds it really disturbing, actually. Victor hasn't become a telepath, has he? She hopes not! She hates other telepaths, especially those that are more powerful than her. Her mental touch as always been very light, as her ability with it is actually quite weak - she couldn't probe past surface thoughts even if she wanted to, and that's normally when people's minds take notice that something strange is going on.
In fact, she's so disturbed by this that she falls suddenly silent, not even laughing at their chatter to each other. The warm feeling she got from helping Superman has disappeared. The last thing she needs right now is more uncertainty. She looks around, suddenly noticing that the crowd is dispersing, and she starts to follow. Ever since she left the FBI, her self-confidence has been practically nothing and she'd rather run away when she's unsure even though there's very little in this world that's likely to hurt her.

'Of course I knew I'm neve-' Lupin started to say before Victor cut him off. 'No he didn't know you were there.' He said. 'He got a strange feeling and went into over protective mode. He just doesn't want to sound like he was caught off guard.' Victor said with a slight smile. Even though Lupin wasn't human he still showed signs of human behavior. Victor wondered if he had something to do with that.
When Victor heard a voice behind him he turned to see who it was. And felt his heart skip a beat when he saw Superman. "Don't worry its ok." He said. "I can always buy another one." He said to Superman. Then he found himself confronted with a choice. Tell Superman that he knew who he was.... Or just let life move on. Victor looked at him. He could feel Lupin waiting to see what he did.
"So Superman what brings you here?" He asked. "I mean I'm glad you were here. But I heard that you and Batman don't cross county lines." He said using a figure of speech from his home town. He had decided not to tell Superman what he knew....... He didn't see a real reason to do so. Also he figured that if he really needed to use that bit of information then he would simply let it out in a more......... Suitable situation.

Superman smiled at the man's question. "I heard some strange sounds and flew here." He said turning around looking at the bridge. "I'm glad I got here."
He then turned back to Victor and smiled. "So your not from here are you?" He asked. "I don't hear many people from the big city use the term 'county lines'" He looked Victor over. "I spent quite a few years in the country after I came to Earth." Superman said not revealing anymore info about his past then that.

There's a brief pause before Phoebe replies, but finally she says, I can tell when people lie, you know. Now, instead of alarmed, she sounds angry. But what was she expecting? Everyone lies. And if they don't, they're mean or they're crazy or they seem to be doing the right thing even if they're not. She doesn't even know why she tries to talk to anyone anymore, except that it's not like she has the skills to run off to the mountains and be a hermit or something.
She falls silent again when she notices that Superman is talking to Victor now, not needing to look behind her to know as she can read it in Victor's thoughts just as easily. She frowns to herself at his reaction, but remains silent until he decides what to do about knowing who Superman is. Of course, him merely thinking about it while she's in his mind also tells her the same thing, but she hardly cares who Superman is or isn't. When she retired from the FBI, she also decided that picking a side between the government and the costumed heroes was not her job so she'll keep that information to herself. Let them argue about what's right without her help.
But that doesn't mean that she doesn't have an opinion on what's right or wrong herself, so when she hears Victor decide not to tell him she immediately interrupts his thoughts to note, Telling him now is the right thing to do - that's your good reason. And you should tell him I know now too.[/color][/i] But even as she says this, she continues to walk away. She has no reason to stay now, and Victor's thoughts are bothering her even if it isn't to the point that she's breaking the connection yet.
