Wulfen shrugged at her comment about him being dead if he were on Thanagnar. "Well I never said I was a warrior." He said in an even tone. "Plus I'm pretty sure if I was raised outside of the United States and had a better understanding of warfare and what it was like. I would be abit different." He said. "And normally when I hesitate. I'm actually planning. Which for me can be a problem seeing as I will sometimes over plan things." He said evenly. He wasn't trying to defend himself. Just explain his stance. He was also feeling better now that his eyes were no longer burning.
He felt himself shutter and he winced when he heard her say that whatever he had learned about warfare. It was worse. He had learned that it could and did get to be the worse thing that could possibly ever happen to a living being. There were no words that he could think of that described how bad it got. But he didn't feel that he should comment on it so he held his words back.
Then he snapped. "Krypton! That's right. Thanks." He said when Hawkgirl helped him with the word. "I don't say that word very often." He added with a grin. "And don't worry I've been through worse then a rough hand shake."

Hawkgirl's eyes suddenly narrow at Wulfen, not liking either what he's saying or the tone he's giving her. "A warrior is nothing more than someone with experience at fighting," she says somewhat sternly, "And if you're not prepared to call yourself one, then you should take that mask off and go home. If you want to help your fellow humans, there are many other ways. This way is one of the most difficult if most rewarding, and requires nothing less than a full commitment. If you know you can't do that, you're better off stopping now. But know that you've been very privileged to have grown up in a place where you even have the option to not fight. But you only have it because others fight for you." He can explain his stance all he likes, but it won't change the fact that Hawkgirl thinks it's terrible for someone to take this role upon themselves when that's their attitude about it.
"And over-planning is a symptom of being untrained - when you're fully trained, knowing what to do becomes instinct," she adds with a lighter tone, merely explaining this rather than lecturing about it. She can handle someone being inexperienced and unsure - it's when they seem to be content to remain that way that she starts to have a problem with it.
Her mood lightens even further at his comment about her handshake. "I'd hope that my handshakes are better than being pepper sprayed," she says with a wry smile. She knows that they're a bit on the strong side, but they're not that bad.

Wulfen put his hands up in a "wait a minute" gesture. "I said I'm not a warrior. Not I don't want to be a warrior." He said. "Believe me I'd like to get better. But as of right now I don't call myself a warrior because I don't want to make people think I'm self righteous." He added. "But if I should stop talking about this then just say so and I'll keep my mouth shut."
Wulfen listened and then nodded when Hawkgirl brought up over-planning. "Your right I am alittle inexperienced. Though I'd like to try and get- No wait. Not try........ I'd like to get better." He said remembering a quote from a move he had seen once. "Though no offense. I think having a mentor without wings might be better suited for me." He added trying to lighten the situation.
"Oh your handshake was nothing compared to the pepper spray. For one thing your handshake didn't last for nearly as long as the pepper spray." He said starting to grin. "And I know that you weren't actually trying to hurt me. Or at least I don't think you were." He added.

What Wulfen says now seems to appease Hawkgirl somewhat, but she says, "Then stop making excuses and simply tell me you'll work on it. Don't try to justify it if you don't like it yourself. But feel free to keep your mouth open if you have something to say; it works better that way." She may not sound like it given the way that she talks, but she really is quite patient. When she wants to be, anyway. And Wulfen's just a kid and not a criminal - he'd have to try a lot harder to actually upset her. Of course, she's not going to let him know that since fearing what someone you respect may think of you is an excellent way to keep aware of just how serious they are.
When he comments on her possible ability to mentor him, though, her head tilts back a bit. That was the wrong thing to say, but she decides that she's already pushing him enough so her reaction is mild. "I've trained people without wings before. I'd offer if I was planning on sticking around - I have more fighting experience, training, and teaching experience than almost anyone else you could find," she says off-handedly, as if the statement didn't bother her. Though contrary to popular opinion, adding 'no offense' does not make anything you say less offensive. But she mostly chalks his words up to him being yet another human unused to knowing what you should and should not say to someone with wings. It's the wingless trying to teach the winged that doesn't work out so well, and not the other way around.
She eases away from that though when she smirks at his comment about her handshake. "I don't try to hurt people," she says simply. That's another one of those 'there is no try' things, "Humans are just a lot more fragile than Thanagarians. But, we're also a much older race so that's to be expected. More time to evolve - though with all the metahumans running around I expect that whatever humans will become will be... interesting."

Wulfen nodded in agreement and said. "Ok I'll work on it. I really will." He said. He felt somewhat like an idiot, it wasn't a feeling he was new too. He had screwed up countless times before. But he didn't like offending someone. Which he was starting to get the feeling he was doing.
And her reply to his comment about her training him made him feel even more of an idiot. "I should start thinking about what I'm gonna say shouldn't I?" He asked, he hated to offend others. No matter where they're from.
Wulfen thought about what the next stage of human evolution would be like when she made the comment about all the metahumans. "Well I heard somewhere that we humans are a stubborn bunch." He said. "Though I have a strong feeling that I won't be around to see what's next for us." He added.

In spite of herself, Hawkgirl can't help but smirk a little bit at the way he responds to her now. "That would be wise," she comments on the subject of thinking before speaking, "But you're young and probably not used to talking to aliens - I'm not going to hit you over the head with my mace for making misstatements." Now, if he meant to be offensive, that would be a different story. Still wouldn't hit him with her mace, but a fist might not be out of the question, depending on context...
And she's quick enough to agree with what he say about humans being stubborn. "You are. Some humans are almost as stubborn as Thanagarians," she comments with a small chuckle, though she's actually being pretty serious about that. Thanagarians are warriors, first and foremost, and for most of them stubbornness comes along with a tendency to never give up on a fight if there's any hope at all. The rest of what he says causes her head to tilt curiously, "Why do you say that?"

Wulfen nodded. "Your right. I've only talked to a few others from outside my country. Let alone from a different world." He said. "I'm just not all that used to different cultures. So if I'm doing something stupid.... Stop me please." He said meaning every word.
He couldn't help but grin when she said that some humans are just as stubborn as her kind. "I know a few like that." He said. Then he thought about how he would best go about answering her question. "Well.. Correct me if I'm wrong, but evolution takes millions of years, And I don't think m lifespan will be long enough to see the next step..... That is assuming evolution is real." He said. "I'm not saying it isn't. I just don't really believe in an ape evolving into a human. I say that because I don't quite know what your kind would have evolved from. Though if I had to guess some kind of bird of prey." He said. "Though I do believe in natural selection and the survival of the fittest." He added.

Hawkgirl purses her lips a little in thought before commenting, "General rule of thumb: don't assume anything. Never believe that someone is incapable or stupid until they prove otherwise, never believe that they're better than you until they show it." Her mouth turns into a smirk as she adds, "Not just a good rule for meeting someone very different from you, but also for fighting unknown opponents." She doesn't have enough digits to count the number of times something seemingly harmless turned out to be rather nasty or the number of seemingly omnipotent beings she's defeated. Then again, almost everything can be related back to combat in her mind.
She considers for a moment when he starts talking about evolution, trying to decide how to explain that one. "You're... partly right," she replies, "It can take millions of years - or, if conditions are right, it can take just a few generations for drastic change. And humans are currently at the evolutionary equivalent of standing at a precipace and losing your balance. There are far more metahumans your age or younger - a sudden increase which will likely continue to grow. There are certain specialized scientists changing the DNA of people already living. You have others able to merge biology with electronics. I've never seen a species so primed for rapid change. And much of it may be your own fault - I expect that humans will have a lot of decisions to make about themselves very shortly."
"And Thanagarians evolved from... Well, I don't know if you'd call it a 'bird of prey' or even a 'bird' at all - there's definitely a lot of similarities with the birds on this planet, though I think that they'd only count as 'bird-like'..." she muses out loud. It really does become tricky when you start to compare animals on one planet with those on another. "Most of the animals on Thanagar have six limbs, and many of the more predatory ones have what you call mind-control abilities," she notes, hoping that will help explain some of the difficulty in deciding on definitions.

Wulfen nodded. "Ok I'll keep that in mind." He said in response to her advice. He felt that it was good advice. Plus many times when he would play a strategy game like chess with someone he would be underestimated by his opponent and in turn win. But he had never really had to apply it to a real world setting.
He listened to Hawkgirl explain how close to a major change the human race was at the time. He then thought about what would be next. He knew the countless sci-fi examples and he had never really bought into it. Seeing as from what he understood about evolution it was a life form adapting to a new environment and changing in order to survive. And he didn't see how enhanced mental powers covered that. "Well then I guess I'll get to see quite the change then, eh?" He asked. Then he thought about something else. "I hope its a good change."
When he heard Hawkgirl explain what animal life was like on her world he frowned trying to imagine what it must look like. "Honestly I'm having some trouble imagining that. Without adding a third eye to the image." He said still trying to imagine the animals she was talking about. "Plus I would have to guess that your predators are abit more effective then ours? At least when it comes to hunting." He couldn't help but ask.

"I'm rather curious to see it myself," Hawkgirl comments. She's not as 'stuck' on this planet as she pretends to be, but she's grown to like humans and finds herself wondering what their ultimate fate will be. Perhaps if she lives long enough to retire from the military she should pay the planet another visit to see how it's changed - if Wulfen can expect to see a lot of change in his lifetime, Hawkgirl may be able to see even more. Then again, that change won't be as personal to her as it would be for Wulfen, who is actually a member of the race in question. "A part of the reason why I fight for this planet is to give your race the chance to figure that out," she comments. It's the whole reason why she's here actually, and not an accident like she's claimed.
She smirks a bit when he explains his difficulty imagining Thanagarian animals. "Actually, in many cases, four eyes - eyes work better in pairs," she says, "The apex predators - the equivalent of things like cats, bears, wolves, and the like here, have four wings, four eyes, two feet. They don't have a tail or beak - most of them have mouths more like a crocodile's. But I wouldn't call them 'more effective' - they'd have a field day going after animals like the ones on this planet, but keep in mind that the prey animals on Thanagar evolved alongside them. The branch that evolved into Thanagarians, for example, developed minds that attack other minds that touch them so powerfully that the damage is physical. Even J'onn can't read my mind safely - and he's the best telepath I know." And, based on her smirk, she's rather proud of this. Telepathy is cheating anyway.

Wulfen looked at Hawkgirl when she said that she would be interested to see what comes next for humans and couldn't help but say. "After hearing you point out the fact that it may be happening sooner then I thought then I'm happy to know that I won't be putting up with speculation my whole life." Then when she said that part of the reason she fought for his kind was so that they might find out he smiled abit. "Well then I know this might not mean much. But thank you."
Then he smiled. "Well now I can imagine seeing them with four eyes. I've been called that a few times in the past." That last part he let slip. He hoped that she didn't catch on to what he meant. He figured that if he just kept rolling with it then she wouldn't pick up on it. "Though what you just said makes me glad I'm not telepathic."

Hawkgirl smiles at the thank you. She's definitely not doing this for the thanks - in fact she suspects that it's more likely that everyone will be angry and upset when they find out why she's really here. But if her mission is successful that means that the people of this planet don't need to fear the Gordanians. And that pleases her - enough planets have been destroyed for that war. "You're welcome," she says simply, as that's all she needs to say.
Unfortunately for Wulfen, Hawkgirl knows exactly what he meant by that, but she only comments, "Now, that's a problem I don't have - I have 20/2 vision." It's not something she seems to take any particular notice of, though. Instead his comment on telepathy causes her to comment, "Sometimes I think that it would be nice if I could turn it off, but it's... automatic. Always a bit dicey meeting a telepath - some of them are careful enough to do the mental equivalent of looking before touching while others barge right into minds. J'onn says that my mind looks like a 'hive of angry wings' and not something he wants to stumble into. I just worry about hurting someone I don't want to who isn't as careful."

Wulfen figured that there was more to what she did. But figured that pushing the subject was going abit too far. So he simply felt the felling that came when thanking someone and knowing that it wasn't enough.
"Well I've found a neat way around my eye sight problem. Though its not much of a problem. I'm not blind or anything." He said grinning. Then he couldn't help but chuckle. "Honestly I don't need to be telepathic to tell that entering your mind uninvited is a big mistake." He said.

Hawkgirl laughs lightly at that. "All humans are practically blind in my book, but what do you do?" she asks curiously. Given that she can see things three miles away and quite clearly... Well, humans miss seeing anything that isn't right in front of them, in her perspective. Then again, there are members of the Justice League who can still give her a run for her money when it comes to eyesight.
And she smirks at his comment about going into her mind uninvited. "I'd hope that most people would realize that doing anything to me uninvited is a big mistake," she comments. That's the whole point of the shape of her helmet, actually. It's intimidating, and warns that she's tougher than the rest of her might suggest. There are plenty who don't take the warning seriously enough, though.

A grin crossed Wulfen's face. He was very proud of his way around it. "Its the only thing I have here that's quote 'High Tech' I managed to get a set of lenses in this mask that replaces my glasses." He said. He figured that he already let it slip that he wore glasses. And also there were quite a few people on Earth that wore glasses. So it wasn't a dead give away.
"I agree doing anything uninvited is a bad idea." He said. "But that seems to be an even worse idea." He said with a grin.
