Hawkgirl listens carefully to the kid's words, and is somewhat surprised by the depth of them. Perhaps this is where the 'scholar' part of him is. "Don't get me wrong, Batman has honor. In fact I trust where he stands more than where I stand. And I'm not the only one," she says seriously, "I just think that he hurts his cause with some of his methods." Though at this point it's really one of those 'agree to disagree' types of things.
She grows quiet when he comments on Earth's history, as she really doesn't know much of it. Mostly because she hasn't been here that long. Though from what she's gathered it's quite... varied. Seems like everything has happened here at least once. Though his comment about finding his own reason gets, "You will. Or you'll quit. Or you'll die." And that's all she has left to say on that subject. This isn't a job for wusses or the half-hearted.
"I've met weaker," she says, before adding, "Though I'd say that humans are a bit on the shallow end. But then again, that's so-called 'ordinary' humans. Some 'metahumans' are definitely in the deep end. Humans are changing pretty quickly right now. And when it comes to Thanagarians - well, it's not like we die at three hundred, or that we're guaranteed to reach it. If I'm lucky, I might. But it is, roughly, three to one."

Wulfen simply nodded at her comment about Batman. He didn't really know what to say in return so he simply kept quiet.
"Well....... I'm not quite an alien that lived in...... What ever you said you lived in." He said thinking back. "My only experience with that is my uncle and books." He said. "Yes I read alot of books." He said upon realizing that he said books once again.
Then he smiled when she said that humans where on the shallow end. "Thanks for not acting like the Hollywood style alien and putting down on my kind." He said. Then he listened to her talk about IF she was lucky. "You don't really seem to be an optimist are you?" He commented crossing his arms.

Smirking, Hawkgirl supplies, " Thanagar," when he struggles with the name of her homeplanet. She really misses the place, having been away from it for so long. But she's here to protect it so she's happy to endure the homesickness. Better to be away from home and keep it safe than to be there and see it destroyed. " Nothing wrong with books. They just don't make up for your own experience," she comments. And she laughs when he mentions the Hollywood aliens. " Humans are a work in progress. But so is every race - especially the ones that claim that they're perfect. And I'll admit that they've grown on me the past five years," she says with a grin. " And no, I'm no optimist - more of a realist. When you've cheated death as many times as I have, you have to be open to the idea that it could catch up with you sometime," she says, but then shrugs. She made peace with the fact that her job is very dangerous a long time ago. While she may have several tremendous physical advantages over a human, basic crime fighting isn't her usual 'thing'. The problems that Gotham was having were highly unusual or she wouldn't have insisted on being here. Normally she's fighting people and... other things of the same or greater ' weight class'.

"Right Thangar. Sorry." He said feeling somewhat bad that he got the name wrong. He nodded and looked at Hawkgilrl he said. "I know that they don't make up for experience." He looked at her sincerely.
"I know quite abit of people that think their perfect." He said with an amused smile. "I always get extremely annoyed with people like them." He said. "So you've cheated death a bunch?" Then he looked at his feet. "I haven't really seen what it sounds you like you've seen" He said. "I've seen pictures and depictions. And if there even half of what you've seen...... Then I feel sorry about it." He said soberly. He has never claimed to know first hand what it was like to fight in what she was making it sound like. War. But he had gone through alot of trouble at times to see a glimmer of what it was like. So that he could better respect those that saw it first hand.

Hawkgirl laughs a little. "If you think that one person who thinks that they're perfect is annoying, try an entire race. They make you want to strangle them all," she comments. Or at least, they make her feel like doing that. Fortunately, while she has a temper she's able to keep it firmly under her control. That's probably the only difference between her being a superhero and a supervillain, actually.
She becomes a bit more serious when he comments on what she's seen. There's a pause as she considers her words. "I've had to fight for one reason or another for the past thirty years or so. Twenty-five on Thanagar as a peace officer, five more here. Even before that I knew what my life would be like, so I was training. It's not easy, but here especially I have a problem that you don't have: you said that you've only fought muggers and other small criminals. Which is good - you're young, and you don't want to bite off more than you manage. But the only reason why you have the luxury of being able to stick to those is because you know that there's someone else out there who is strong enough to take care of anyone worse.
"I don't have that. There aren't many on this planet stronger than me - Superman, Wonder Woman, several others. And sometimes they have to face things that are powerful enough that even they need some help. Or sometimes I simply have skills that they don't. And I can't sit back when it looks dangerous and tell myself that someone more capable will do it for me, because there isn't - it's me or nobody. I can only try and see if it's enough. It's hard, yes, but don't feel sorry for me. Because I do what I do, you are able to do what you do. And because both of us do what we do, the planet is a safe place to be - globally and locally. And that's worth every moment of danger," she explains, smiling at the end. But then she laughs to herself and says, "Listen to me - I'm starting to sound like Superman." He's always been the one with the reputation for giving the long speeches. At least she didn't bring up truth, justice, and the American way...

Wulfen watched Hawkgirl's body language as she talked. For a second he thought that maybe he had said the wrong thing. Then he felt abit more relaxed when he heard what she was saying. After she finished he felt that he could now talk to her without interrupting. "I'm no Superman that's for sure." He said with a slight laugh.
"Part of me wants to get better, so I will get to be known. Like you and Batman.... You know what I mean?" He said. Then after a pause. "Then there's part of me that doesn't and just wants to stay unknown by the masses." He looked at his feet. "It really confuses me too." He looked back up at her. "I'm not the only one with that problem am I?" He couldn't help but ask.

Hawkgirl smirks as she comments, "And I'm no Wonder Woman... though I've beaten her at chess before. The wisdom of Athena only goes so far..." She chuckles before adding, "And even Superman makes mistakes - remember that." Sure she knows a lot of formidable people, and is one herself, but she'd definitely like the kid to keep that in perspective. "You may not hold much hope of ever beating him at arm-wrestling, but that doesn't mean you're not able to make your own impact on the world," she notes.
And she laughs lightly at his question when she adds, "No, you're not. There are some advantages to being famous, and some disadvantages. But I can tell you that the bigger what you do is, the more difficult it becomes to stay hidden. At a certain point, keeping out of the spotlight can make the job a lot harder. Though if becoming known is why you're doing it, then you're doing it for the wrong reason. But I suppose what I wonder is, why would you not want to become known?" She tilts her head curiously, seemingly more relaxed by this topic.
Though there isn't much to her body language in general: she always has this air of supreme confidence around her and, since there's nobody to fight currently, supreme calmness. Most of her expressions remain well-hidden by her helmet, aside from her mouth, which usually only betrays whether she's more amused or serious. There is some emotion that can be read by the shifting of her wings but, as humans lack those appendages, most people have a hard time knowing what that means until they get to know her better.

Wulfen grinned as she said that he shouldn't expect to beat Superman in arm wrestling. "I always preferred the subtle method." He said then he looked around to see what was going on around him. He didn't see anything.
'Why do I not want to be known?' He asked himself. "I guess the reason I don't want to be known. Is that I'm somewhat afraid of what could possibly go wrong." He said thoughtfully. He looked at her in the same thoughtful manner. "Its not because I want to be famous. That's the last thing I want." He said. He stretched his legs because they had started to get stiff. Then he looked at Hawkgirl. "So got any advice on how to find my reason? Like a journey or a meditation? For lack of a better phrases."

Hawkgirl smiles a little at Wulfen's thoughts on fame. "Well, if you want my advice on that one, kid - don't worry about that. Worst case scenario: you screw up, and show the world that you're not infallible. And teach a bunch of little kids that you don't have to be perfect to be a hero," she says, smiling before adding, "And it's always nice when criminals surrender to you on sight. Saves time." Sure, she misses out on a fight that way, but then again the type of people who are willing to go down without a fight aren't the type of people who are able to give you much of a fight anyway.
His last question causes her to pause for a moment in thought before she says, "I don't really believe in that whole physical/mental/spiritual journey ridiculousness. But you might consider the question: What would happen if you didn't do it? And are you okay with that happening?" Her personal philosophies are all firmly rooted in reality - Thanagarians believe in nothing but their own strength. But that doesn't mean that she's without wise insights. When she's trying, at least.

Wulfen shrugged. "Yeah I don't really buy into that stuff either. Just thought it didn't hurt to ask." Then he thought about what she said. With thinking what would happen if he didn't help others. And weather or not he could live with it.
"I guess I wouldn't want to sit by and let people come to harm........." He said. Then after a pause. "If he were still alive my uncle would be chewing me out right now for wanting to quit just now." He smiled slightly at that comment. "Any advice on a mentor? Or at least a place that I can get classes on how not to get my butt kicked?" He asked. Then he suddenly thought up a question. "Your making it sound like you won't be staying in Gotham...... Where do you plan on going next?" He asked hoping that it wasn't a sore topic for her.

Hawkgirl purses her lips a little at his answer, dissatisfied with it. "You 'guess'?" she asks, "You should probably keep asking yourself that question until you know if that's the answer. Do you really mean it? Or are you just saying that because you know it's supposed to be the 'right' answer?" But like any question with any actual depth to it, even if the answer is obvious it's still worth pondering upon.
His next question actually causes a thoughtful frown for a moment, but then she smiles a little. "I'm actually probably not the best one to ask - if we were on Thanagar I could tell you easily, but I was well-trained and experienced by the time I got here so I only know so much that would help someone starting off. But I can tell you that if you choose a mentor, the most important thing is that they should be someone you respect - someone you're willing to work hard for. As far as classes - there's no better teacher than someone who actually does this job. But if you can't find someone soon, know that as good as martial arts are most forms have become so stylized they actually can inhibit you a bit. What I like better are those that simply call themselves 'self-defense' classes since they simply teach you to do what you have to, though they aren't as good at training the mind," she explains. She's really quite particular about that sort of thing, since she used to teach classes herself back on Thanagar. The espionage class, to be specific...
But her attention easily shifts to the subject of where she'll be going. "Metropolis, first," she says with a smile, "It's been awhile since Superman and I have had a chance to catch up." And he's actually one of her better friends among the world's superheros. "After that, I'll go wherever the league thinks I'm most needed - I like doing that, actually, I see a lot of the country and sometimes the world that way," she explains. Not to mention that it tends to put her right in the middle of whatever action happens to be going on - exactly where she likes to be. "I'm not the type to stick so much to one city," she adds with a shrug. Perhaps a bit of an odd preference for a superhero, but she likes it better that way.

Wulfen frowned abit as Hawkgirl questioned him for using the word 'guess' He glanced at his feet and thought about what he meant and why he used the word 'guess' I'll confess. I don't know why I used that word." He looked back at Hawkgirl. "I really don't know." He said with a defeated tone.
Then she listened to what she said about classes and a mentor. "Well as for the classes I did take a self-defense class. Seeing as they kicked me out of the actual martial arts class due to my in ability to be extremely flexible and my reluctance to attack." Then he thought some more. "Also I can't really think of anyone who would be able to fill the role of mentor for me..... Well at least in the way I seem to need." He said again with a somewhat defeated tone.
"Your making them sound like the military. With seeing the world and all." Referring to what she had said about the Justice League. "I'm not sure how I would do with meeting Superman." He said. "After all doesn't he have a large amount of publicity.?"

His defeated tone causes her to smile sympathetically. "Hey, you don't need to have all of this figured out right now," she replies, "The sooner the better, but these things can take time. But that's to be expected when something's important." But then she frowns slightly as she comments, "But that doesn't sound like a very good martial arts class. If you're not flexible enough or are reluctant to attack, they should train you otherwise, not kick you out for it. Though I'll bet that the latter problem is because you're still not sure why you're doing it." That's certainly not a problem that Hawkgirl ever has - if anything she's overeager to attack. But she's inclined to think that she's simply extremely decisive.
His comment on the Justice League gets a small smirk, "I suppose it is in a few ways - highly organized group of fighters, goes all over the place. I've even been called a flying tank before." She smirks at that - she'd rather suspect that she's more powerful than a tank... "But we're a hell of a lot less formal. We have rules, but not a lot of them. If only because some of the best members live to break rules," she adds with another smirk. She's one of the ones that would actually be a huge fan of the time of imposing a bit more discipline on what's really more of a glorified ragtag bunch of misfits, but a lot of the more... free-spirited in the group would not go for that.
His comments on Superman get a very quick smile, though. "It helps that we can both out-fly news helicopters," she comments with a laugh, "But he's really down to earth and very nice. Unless you're a criminal, of course." She's always liked that about Clark - his philosophies on crime and justice are very similar to her own. He also can sympathize with being the only one of your kind on a planet of humans, even though he's able to blend in with them a lot better and is much more at home about it than she is. It's J'onn that understands more what it's like. Still, she hasn't more than given him a quick update on the Gotham situation for awhile, so it'll be nice to talk to him properly again. She smirks again as she adds, "And he's even good at handshakes."

Wulfen looked back at Hawkgirl and gave a weak smile after hearing her tell him about how he doesn't have to find all of this out now. But he should as soon as he can. Then when she made the comment about the class he grinned slightly. "Actually I've never liked to attack. Granted if I see someone attacking someone else. Or someone attacks me. I will gladly fight back. But I've never really been an aggressor." He said. I've never really liked the idea of fighting."
"Yeah I know abit about militaries. Its one of the things I read about alot." He said. "I won't say I know what its like though." He added quickly.
"Ok so I can shake his hand." He commented with a grin shaking his hand out. Then he looked at Hawkgirl. "I honestly prefer it when people are down to earth. Even if they are from Krypt- Krypto- Krypti- What was it called again?" He said.

"If we were on Thanagar you'd be dead," Hawkgirl says, with a slight tone of disapproval, "Like you humans say, the best defense is a good offense. Sure, it's better if you don't have to fight at all - it's not something to be taken lightly, even if you'll know that you'll win. But when it's time to fight, you must be ready to strike. Hesitating only hurts you, especially because the more dangerous your opponent is the less likely it is that they will hesitate." Trust Hawkgirl of all people to have such a strong opinion on that subject. She'd be the last hero to hesitate - even if she has to charge in by herself because everyone else is unsure. That's actually happened a couple of times.
The subject of militaries is another subject she has some strong opinions on, but she spares Wulfen the lecture and simply comments, "If you're lucky, you'll never find out. No matter what you've read, it's worse."
But she smirks as he shakes his hand out, saying, "Sorry about that - I am getting better. I don't have Superman's finesse yet." If you've seen what the man can do with his strength, it's really quite astonishing that he can not only shake a hand without hurting someone, but also do it in a way that seems totally normal and natural. Probably because he was raised on this planet. She, on the other hand, spent 85 years living among people who considered her level of strength totally normal. "Krypton," she supplies when he stumbles over the name.
