The Germans were stupid for making a bad guy their leader, Phoebe replies. Like any child, she has a tendency to see such things very simply. Of course, a part of her judgmentalism on that point is just because it's extremely easy for her to tell the bad guys from the good guys most of the time, and she doesn't quite realize how hard that can be for anyone else. But there's a big difference between being stupid and being bad, she adds easily, And that was a long time ago. They've gotten better. She gives a mental shrug - which is probably a bit of an odd thing for him to feel from her, but is totally natural to her.
She grins at the rest of what he says and says, Yeah, your mind doesn't seem any stronger than anyone else's. Mine's doing all the work. Otherwise, you could probably read my mind. And she doesn't like that idea at all.

'Well there were no more stupid then anyone else at the time. Hitler just said all the right things.' He said hoping it didn't sound like he was protecting the guy. He just wanted to protect the Germans. Seeing as his one of his ancestors fought in WWII........ And he was a German. So in Victor's mind he was protecting his father's father.
Victor then nodded some when he heard her explain that it was her mind. 'Well sorry if I'm wearing you out. And don't worry. I probably wouldn't read your mind. I'm not that type of guy. Though I would hate to play a war game against you. Unless you were on my side of course.' He said jokingly.

Phoebe's not about to change her mind about the Germans, but she knows better than to argue the question. She often wishes that everyone could tell who the bad guys are as easily as she can - the world would be a much better place. Then the bad guys could all be locked up in jail where they belong and the good guys wouldn't have to worry about them.
No, you're not wearing me out - talking with my mind is as easy for me as talking with my mouth, she says. Which isn't exactly the case, but close enough even she wouldn't consider it a lie. His last comment causes her to laugh through the mental link. I'm good at war games, she responds. Which is to be expected when you know what your opponents are planning the same moment they do.

Victor smiled. 'And that is why I would hate to play a war game against you........ Although there is one thing that might make it alittle bit of a challenge for you.' He said/thought happily. He looked at a few more pictures on his camera and smiled at a few of the pictures.
'I sometimes I will make sure that I don't even let myself know what my battle plans are in those games.' Victor smiled at how often he did that. He almost always just made up a plan as things happened. It didn't always work but he always thought it was fun.

I usually win even when people do that, Phoebe informs him, But yeah, it's always harder when someone makes it up as they go along.
She actually doesn't even need to understand the particular game that she's playing to do that. Even if the person she's playing against doesn't have an overall plan in mind, in order to do well in that sort of game you at least need to analyze each move that you make. And when you plan your next move, you can't help but consider what your opponent is doing and worry that they'll do this or that. Phoebe simply has to keep doing what her opponent is most worried that she'll do. And that actually means that it's easier for her to beat someone who is really good at the game because they're essentially playing against themselves that way.
Still, it's not a foolproof method. But like Victor said, playing can just be fun. Other games though... I'm too good at most card games. They're boring, she adds.

Victor smiled. 'I call it my static campaign. Due to the fact that I try to envision static when I'm doing it. Or I constantly think 'sorry this number that you have tried to reach in unavailable please hang up and try again.' as you can see......... I'm more interested in fun then winning.' He said/thought with a slight grin.
'And as for card games the only two I really know how to play is Go Fish and 21.' He paused trying to see if he knew anymore and had just forgotten. 'Yep those are the only two.' He looked around to see what was going on around him. There was nothing different..... The park was as it should be. Calm and peaceful. Even with all the people walking around.

Phoebe laughs mentally at that answer, but though she doesn't respond she'd rather suspect that it wouldn't work out so well. While she can only read minds instead of probing them like a stronger telepath could - anything that the person isn't currently thinking about is completely closed to her, she's really very good at sorting through what she can sense. For example, she's had people who know of her ability try to lie to her by thinking about the lie as if it were the truth. However, even if they have themselves half fooled, somewhere off in the background of their mind, yet still on the surface, they're aware that what they're saying is not true. And she catches it. Every time. The only way it would work is if the person sincerely believed the lie themselves. So she suspects that trying the thing Victor is saying wouldn't really work out either - even if the front of his mind was thinking about static, some part of his mind would still have to be thinking about what he's doing.
As she listens to the rest, she notices Agent Stevens standing up from the bench and sighs to herself as she starts to bring her swing to a stop. She was having fun! Though really, the conversation she's having with Victor is even more fun than the swing. However, she won't stop talking to him immediately - she's smart enough to realize that if the young voice in his head stops the same moment a certain apparent mother/daughter pair start to leave the park he may get suspicious. And her range is far enough that... well, she's much more likely to have to say goodbye to him because she has to pay too much attention to other things than because she has a hard time keeping in contact.
Yeah, Go Fish is too easy when you know what cards the other person has, she replies, But I've never tried 21 before. That might be harder. Though she hasn't played it, she's aware of the jist of the game. It's one where who you're playing against doesn't know what their cards are.
"Was that fun?" Agent Stevens asks as Phoebe walks to her side, "You're awful quiet."
"Just thinking about stuff," Phoebe replies, not having too much difficulty juggling a physical conversation while still in a mental one.
Agent Stevens frowns, but doesn't comment as they start to head out of the park. Phoebe has been 'just thinking about stuff' a lot lately.

Victor looked up when he noticed movement nearby. He saw that it was just a mother getting up and taking her daughter home. He simply nodded politely and went back to his camera.
'21 is kinda fun. Though I'm not to great when I'm trying to find out what the odds are that I'm about to go over.' He flipped through a few more of the pictures on the camera and tried to adjust the lens.
'Its also hard for me because I don't like to gamble much.' He paned the camera from side to side and when satisfied that it was in good shape he set it back down on his lap. Then he looked up into the sky and saw a bird flying. He listened slightly to the mother daughter talk. He didn't truly listen though. More he just heard their voices. He looked back around the park and grinned. 'I always did like the swings.' He said thinking back fondly on his childhood.

Phoebe and Agent Stevens are silent for the rest of the walk out of the park. If two people have been around each other almost constantly for seven years, one of them is a child, and mind-reading is involved, there really isn't much to say sometimes. Agent Stevens is worried about Phoebe, Phoebe is well aware of that but still doesn't want to talk about it, and Agent Stevens knows that Phoebe knows. So the conversation any other parent or guardian would have with a child acting like that doesn't happen because she already knows it would be pointless.
And Phoebe doesn't mind the silence. After all, that just makes it easier to talk to Victor. Gambling is an expensive hobby anyway. At least if you don't win, and most people don't, she observes, I wouldn't bother with it anyway. What I do probably counts as cheating. Though she doubts that there are any rules in the book about not being allowed to read people's minds. The rules always assume that the players are normal, though. Though if there was a rule about that, she wouldn't want to play anyway.
She gives a smile to Victor's comment about swings. Now that Phoebe isn't swinging, Agent Stevens sees and silently notes the sudden smile, but supposes that's a good sign. It's like... flying... But without having to think so hard, Phoebe replies to Victor.

Victor smiled. 'I learned how to fly smaller planes.' He said 'I love flying. But I've only ever flown inside a big metal box. Never like a bird.' He said.
'So you can fly then? I'm just guessing by your comment.' He looked back around and smiled and took a deep breath and felt the crisp air flow through his nostrils and down his windpipe.
'So I don't really know what its like to fly. I've never felt the wind in my hair or anything. Though I've been told I'm a competent pilot. What ever he meant by that. I know what the words mean. But the tone.' He said with a smile and a slight quiet chuckle.

Phoebe's mildly surprised by his question, as she didn't really intend to tell him more about her abilities when she made that natural comment, though she supposes that there's no real harm in that given that he already knows about her telepathy. Yeah, she replies, It's kind of tricky though and I'm not very good at it. It's like... picking yourself up. And you don't have a big metal box to protect you if you make a mistake. Which is definitely a major concern for her every time she's tried to do it. Even though she's gotten delicate enough with her telekinesis to pick up people without worrying about harming them in recent years, doing that to yourself is a completely different ballgame.
If you've flown a plane before though that means you went a lot faster, though - that must have been fun, she adds, I mean, it's kind of fun for me too but it's mostly a lot of work.

'Yeah well the big metal box was kinda scary at points.' He said/thought with a grin. He took a glance at his watch. It was almost time for him to go and talk to the guys at the paper. See if they would by any of his pictures.
'It was a single engine plane though. Not a jet or anything. They were afraid that I would crash it.' He said jokingly. In reality there was no jet to choose from It was just something he said to mess with people from time to time.

Yeah, I'm even slower than those planes, Phoebe admits when she senses the jist of the type of plane he flew, I mean, I can go that fast but I don't like it. At least a plane is made a bit to try to protect you if you run into something. When I fly my way I don't have anything. Well, if I miss seeing it, anyway. And that's why it can be a bit nerve-wracking going at high speeds - she could easily get herself killed by bumping into something while she goes fast.
Though she doesn't miss his thought about the time. If you need to say goodbye, that's okay, she adds, I should probably be paying attention to something else anyway. Because now she and Agent Stevens have reached the parking lot and they're getting in the car. They actually have more work to do today before they'll head to their quarters for the night. Still, Phoebe's been enjoying this conversation and is reluctant for it to end.

Victor smiled and said. "Yeah I kinda got a little nervous when I had to land the plane." He laughed abit silently. "Its just something about the ground coming up at you when your in a big metal box." He said.
He then looked at his watch again and sighed. "Yeah I might as well get going." He looked at his camera again. "I need to see if the paper will buy any of these pictures I got." He said. It was plain by the way he said that that he didn't enjoy one bit of it. He liked the people. And the paper was good. But he just didn't like how they tried to buy them for the smallest amount they could think of. But hey the was the economy has been going he didn't blame them.

Try doing it without anything telling you how high you are or how fast you're going, Phoebe comments, 'Course, I don't need to worry about going too slow either. Still, she's rather of the opinion that it would be easier to fly a plane. Then again, she's never tried doing that, and she knows exactly how tricky it is to fly with her form of telekinesis.
But, reluctantly, she shifts her attention to the idea of saying goodbye. Which is hard, because she likes him and there's every likelihood that she'll never see this guy again. But that's a bit of a constant in her life - the only one who has always been there is Agent Stevens. I'll look for pictures with your name on them in the paper, she promises, It was nice talking to you. And Lupin too.
