The guests were all in place. The food had been brought out and everyone was drinking happily. The dull chatter of the room nearly drowned out the live orchestra playing just to the left of the grand staircase. In the center of the massive foyer was a massive, opulent ice sculpture depicting the lady of Gotham holding her torch high for all to see. Everything was as perfect as it was going to be...apart from one small detail. The party was missing its host. Bruce Wayne was due to arrive fifteen minutes ago and the staff was running out of champagne. Alfred frowned as he handed off the last of his horderves and retreated back to the kitchen. He managed to catch a glimpse of a conversation as he walked. Judge Vargas was talking with a campaign contributor as she sipped her fourth glass of champagne, "You'd think a man with this much wealth could afford to pay attention to his own event schedule," She paused only to finish the rest of her drink and stumble over her next sentence, "I mean really...He drags us all out here to invest in his little humanitarian project and can't even be bothered to show up on time!"
Alfred frowned as he passed a wait staff and took him by the arm, "Avoid bringing anymore alcohol to Mrs. Vargas. We wouldn't want a repeat of the annual Christmas ball would we?" The waiter nodded and Alfred continued through the kitchen and into the study. He looked to make sure he was alone and then puled back one of the books. The bookcase rotated and revealed a staircase down into the Batcave where Batman was still busily typing away at the computer. Alfred sighed and placed the platter he had been carrying next to the brooding individual, "Need I remind you, Master Bruce, that you are currently throwing a charity function upstairs at this very moment? One that you have somehow managed to be late for despite being in the same location."
Bruce didn't seem to notice. He had grown accustomed to Alfred's sarcasm, "I'll be up in a minute Alfred. Just stall them for a little while longer."
Alfred frowned angrily, "Master Bruce...You were due to give an announcement nearly twenty minutes ago. I've stalled for as long as I'm willing to. Either you go make that speech or find yourself another poor fool to be your nanny."
Bruce chuckled at that. He turned away from the console and nodded, "Alright...alright. Go and tell the guests I'll be there momentarily."
Alfred nodded satisfied, "At once, sir," and turned back the way he came.
Bruce turned back to the console and rubbed his chin...Nearly a week and nothing had come up. Something was coming, he could feel it, But the city had been quiet. He didn't like it. He sighed and turned from the computer to dress in his formal wear. His black tuxedo was folded on the computer next to him and had been sitting there all day. Bruce smiled as he looked at the neatly folded clothes. Alfred must have brought them here this morning. He hadn't even seen the man come in. It amused him to think of alfred sneaking up on him while he was working and leaving meals or laundry. It reminded of all the times he sneaked up on Gordan. Perhaps Alfred was better suited to this line of work than Bruce ever could be.
Bruce stepped out of the elevator and into the upstairs Parlor. He fixed his cuffs as he smiled and walked down the grand staircase and up to the podium to give his speech. He cleared his throat and the room grew quiet, "Sorry to keep you all waiting, I see you've helped yourselves to the liquor cabinet. Careful, some of that stuff is worth more than you." Bruce waited for the dull chorus of chuckles to end before continuing, "But seriously, I'm happy to see you all enjoying yourselves though, that's not the entire reason I've brought you here tonight. This very second, while we all stand here and drink our fill, thousands of people are living in the gutter. No food to eat, nowhere to sleep, No opulent parties to attend. That's why I implore each and every one of you to open your hearts, and your wallets, to help these less fortunate. My parents did everything they could to ensure everyone in Gotham had a fighting chance. They built public transportation, funded the building of schools and hospitals, invested in free clinics and rehabilitation centers, so I'm carrying on their fight. Let's not let their hard work be in vain. Thank you, you can find collection plates throughout the manor to donate. Now, enjoy yourselves."
He smiled at the applause and waived for the orchestra to start up again. He grabbed a glass of champagne and mingled with the crowd. He should have been enjoying himself...but he couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't quite right...

It had been a long night that had drifted into the morning. The tamaranean princess wouldn’t complain and didn’t, but even she couldn’t escape a little exhaustion. Whilst she wasn’t human, she did still run on energy. She was made of it and she had a limit. Having finally crashed mid morning, half sidewards and tangled in her bed. Kory had spent much of her day doing house cleaning. Before retreating to the balcony. With the bare minimal on, as was best and fitting to soak up the sun. It was the last days of summer and Kory certainly was gonna soak up as much as she could. Body laid out on one of the lounge chairs. Feet up. Book in hand. The city of Bludhaven was mildly busy below the apartment and through the city, but it mostly just played quietly. She could get absorbed when reading. With the sun beading down upon her golden skin, there really was very little that could disrupt such joys in life. To say she was loving it, was an understatement and she was looking forward to the evening. Having received along with Dick the invitation to Bruce’s party. Well, Kory also loved parties. She made sure note to be ready when the time came. Least that had been her plan. As Kory laid out on the balcony. After however minutes, more like hours. The long nights had eventually caught up on her and she had dosed off. Rather peacefully. Dreaming of a beach. Feet in the sand. Water lapping at the double set of toes. Of course she wasn’t the only one there. It was a nice view. A buzzing sound had seeped through and eventually brought back to reality. Rubbing the sand from her eyes. Motioning for her phone beside her. It was Dick texting, he maybe late for the party and to go on ahead without him. Kory wondered if it was just because he was busy or was it the party. She half smiled, he had helped pick out her dress, so she doubted it. Kory texted back, ‘hope to see you there, XX’. It was then Kory lifted her eyes and realised the bright warming sun was now setting. She had better get ready and got to her feet. Made her way back inside and took to her bedroom. Passing where she had her dress hung up and made a quick trip to her en-suite. Had a quick shower, before hopping back out. Did up her make-up, nothing to out there. Kory kept it simple. Moving back to her bedroom. Tousling out her red hair as she went. Slipping into her dress. A full length purple beaded strapless dress, with a slit up one leg. It seemed best suited for the occasion, whilst not over doing it. Plus it was sparkly and purple, least that what sold her on it. That and it fit like a glove helped, although she had to figured its a strange looking glove as Dick had brought it up. Nonetheless, she liked it. She paired with some strappy heels, not too high as she hardly needed the the height. Some dangly earrings and a couple of sparkly bangles. Oh, and of course her purse. She couldn’t forget that. At that she ready to go. There was just one thing…
There was no ride. She technically didn’t have much of a license given she wasn’t considered a species of this planet and well, she could fly. So not much thought to it. Kory went back to the balcony and took to the sky. As odd as it could look from people below. Kory paid little attention, she kept a steady pace, with the trails of her hair following behind. Before long she was in Gotham City and had Wayne Manor in sight. Having visited frequently enough, usually accompanied with Dick. Kory had no trouble finding the place. Although she was used to it being much quiet. She could not remember when she saw it this filled out. As her eyes soon grasped the cars. The fancy dressed people going in. With a few looking in her direction. Maybe staring. Oh. She soon realised why. Not making much attempt to hide it, she did not have to, she wasn’t hiding the fact she was Starfire. She did not have to. Kory soon landed some feet from the Manor. Walking the rest. Took whatever steps. Reached the entrance. Giving her name kindly and with no funny business, she was let in. Now, she was ready for a party. Not paying much attention for any eyes that were on her, she was used to it. Walking through the familiar entrance, she’d visited enough to know it, but it seemed different. Tonight, it all just seemed different. Perhaps all the decorations and the lights. There so many lights. Kory had to wonder if she’d realised there had been this many lights before, suppose it was kept darker most days. Either way, it was beautiful and hardly a gloomy feeling, which she got occasionally when she visited. Upon walking through. Kory was met with food offerings and she took a few. Not too many. Although she did spot a sweets table and after finishing a couple appetisers, promptly made her way to the sweets. Lets not assume she’s full of sugar and all things sweet. Kory wasn’t gonna knock down a sweet now and then. As she gladly took a chocolate. Oh, X’Hal. Such joy, Kory took a second. Just as she heard Bruce’s voice fill the room. Kory turned and walked further in. Closer to the podium, mingled in with the crowd. Listened to Bruce give his speech, which was mighty good and looked charming as ever. Well, charming out of the Bat suit. He really could get that scowl down, was that why its a cowl. Kory refocused with a smile. He was a generous man. Nearing the end of his speech. At the mention of the donations. Kory promptly too to one of the collection plates, Bruce had mentioned and put in her money. It was a rather generous donation. She was in no ways as well of as Bruce, but Kory had certainly made a good saving from her model work. That she was more than happy to give to those that needed it most.
Now as she turned back to the heart of the party, which she was really noting how vast it was. Splendid. Ooh, how wonderful she heard the orchestra start playing again. Such beautiful sounds. Her green eyes searched through the room. All the many faces. There were too few she couldn’t say she knew, but entirely open to making friends. It didn’t appear she had many here and would be most happy once Dick got here. However, she wasn’t at a complete loss with lack of familiar faces. She at least knew one. That was Bruce. It would be impolite and out of character, not to say hi. Gazing through the room, she eventually spotted him again, mingled in with the crowd and she made her way. Through the crowd, before she was mere feet from where he stood. Her green eyes taking in the full sight of Bruce, all dressed up and in his tux. Hmmm, it really brought out his eyes. Motioned towards him without budding into any conversations, if she can help it.
”Greetings, Bruce. Don’t you look all tall, dark and dashing… I must thank-you for the invitation, this party is truly splendid… Though, I have not yet seen the dance floor, unless I missed it. I do so look forward to some dancing this evening.”
Warmly and openly, Kory greeted Bruce. Motioned for hug or kiss on the cheek, that was how humans greeted, right? Of course, Kory was entirely open to more of a hug, but she kept it simple. Best not crush the host before the night has even started. Complimented him and thanked him. Of course her mind would spring to dancing, not that she exactly needed to go dancing now, but it was certainly one of the reasons she loved parties. Friends. Dancing. Food. Suppose what other reasons were there. She grinned a bright golden smile as her eyes beamed bright green. She definitely had to see if Bruce would dance himself at some point. She remembered, Alfred mentioning having taught him some moves and Kory had yet to see them. In fact, she couldn’t say she’d even seen Bruce dance. She had to still wonder if he really could.

"Punctual has never been a word used to describe Mr Wayne, an expensive watch is wasted on the man" Oswald Cobblepot joked to the judge after he'd placed himself close enough to slip in to conversation. Oswald had a natural talent for finding the more important people in the room to make conversation with, the judge was an old acquaintance, he liked to keep up with the judges of Gotham, their interests, their vices. Anything to bend an opinion.
It was the first time since he announced his intentions to run for Mayor that Oswald had been able to wear a tux again. Under the firm but very carefully worded advice of his PR department Oswald had toned back his appearance slightly to suits, still expensive suits but not top hats and tuxedos, in an attempt to seem more in touch with the masses. Even now his top hat was still gone. He didn't like it, he felt short and bald and who wanted to connect with poor people anyway? Sadly he had been advised that poor people can still vote and apparently no one dressed like that normally.
Finally Bruce made his appearance and Oswald resisted the urge to look displeased but then he wasn't a fan of the Waynes. He chuckled politely along with all the others at Bruce's jokes and raised his champagne in a quick toast as Bruce finished their late welcome.
"Better late than never" Oswald muttered back to the judge before he catches sight of the fiery haired woman who had just worked her way through the crowd to Bruce. Oswald almost has to literally bite his tongue to fight the urge to yell at her. He knows Starfire, he knew of her work in Bludhaven before he met her but he remembers her best for her help in Scarecrow's plan to destroy his club. The first Iceberg lounge burnt by her hand and now here she was partying! Oswald never really had returned the favour for that.
He cut through the crowd quickly towards the pair and he looked angry but his PR team was literally in his ear, panicking through his hidden earpiece, afraid he was going to attack someone in front of the press and ruin all his chances.
Oswald stopped short. He buried the anger. Buried it deep down with all the other wrongs he had to put up with until he could right them and he plastered a smile over the top. Oswald was good at putting on a mask but the smile didn't extend to his eyes and he couldn't help but say something.
He cut through the remaining crowd to the pair "Planning to scorch your way around another dance floor?" he questioned Kory, it sounded like playful banter but there was a certain edge to his tone "I do hope you're insured, Bruce"

He spotted Kory among the crowd and allowed a smile to cross his features. He welcomed her with open arms and gave a slight chuckle, "Kory, glad you could make it. No dancing tonight I'm afraid, more of a..." He searched for the best way to describe this..thing. He wasn't good at these functions. He found them to be more frightening than when he was staring down the barrel of a gun sometimes, but one must keep up appearances, as alfred liked to remind him. He almost forgot to finish his sentence, "this is more of a formal gathering." He leaned in close and nearly whispered into her ear, "Though, if I'm being honest, I can't stand these things. So cut and dry...so....boring."
His thoughts were interrupted by the appearance of Mr. Oswald Cobblepot. Not a face he was particularly fond or excited to see. There was a momentary look of disgust followed by a flash of menace before bruce allowed his features to soften. He let his smile return, though it was cut with a touch of disdain. He gave a false laugh and nodded, "Well, I don't think it'll be a problem. I'm sure whatever damages occur tonight can be paid comfortably out of pocket " He allowed a stare to linger on Oswald as if questioning him. Even in his alter ego, batman couldn't help but put a criminal in his place.
Bruce allowed the subject to drift before Oswald could retort. He turned to Kory, "Mr. Cobblepot recently announced he's running for mayor. Though, if you're looking for a backer, I'm afraid I've already pledged my vote to a more....experienced canidate." Another lingering smile...

It was occasionally a flip up what reaction Kory was going to get with Bruce. Perhaps she was use to him as Batman or even well, away from the eyes of the public. There was a surprise to be met with a smile. Crossing his features and Kory was sure it had even reached his eyes. With that little hint of a gleam. Wow. X’hal. Whilst at this point she had become well aware of masks. Alias’. She was still Koriand’r. Honest. Positive and a tiny bit gullible perhaps a human would say. She expected the good and most often expected the truth. She wasn’t entirely sure if this was 100% genuine Bruce, but either way. She very much liked it and was all up for embracing it. Certainly coming to the collusion, he needed to smile more. It was incredibly more warming, than the gloomy dark stare he occasionally did… There was that brief hesitation, just from the initial surprise at how openly warm he was being, that Kory then very much graced Bruce with a hug as they greeted. Kory made a slight amused face within the hug. Was that not also a chuckle? Kory had to open her eyes to the room, to confirm she had heard it directly from Bruce. Kory took a tiny step back out of the hug, as to best hear Bruce. but remained close enough. If this was how Bruce was, she was totally sticking around. Smiling warmly and brightly at hearing he was glad to see her. Well, she was most glad to see him. Well, her emotions then took a slight dive as he spoke of no dancing. Like, at all? How could there be no… No dancing. Not that a party couldn’t be a party without dancing, depending on the party, but still… No dancing. As the light noted pain crossed her face, not completely sulking, but more like someone just pulled the tail of her favourite kitten.
”No dancing…! Not even the slow kind? That is… Disappointing... There is still fun to be had, I am sure… I did indulge in some lovely chocolates and you are here. ”
Kory questioned the lack of dancing, with the slight little crease between her eyes… She was disappointed a little sad. When there was music, she assumed there be dancing, but obviously she assumed wrong. Not one to hang on to a frown, Kory tried to flip it. Look at what other fun there would be at the party. She initially did not come to much conclusions, but she did remember the fine food she had spotted and tried. On top of running into a friend. Friends of course, always made the party. That and making friends. Kory certainly enjoyed making new friends, although she wasn’t always as easily accepted. Kory couldn’t always understand why. It wasn’t like she was impolite or unkind. She was never one to judge, but she often found herself on the other end. Of course it wouldn’t completely stop her from trying and whatever crude eyes were on her now. She was use to not paying a whole lot of attention to it. She was who she was. Kory smiled sweetly as Bruce had finished his words, as to what kind of party she was truly at. A formal gathering. Was that his fine of saying a party with rules? A party with no fun?
”Can a formal gathering not be fun? Perhaps you can show me the ropes!”
Curiously and generally hopeful, Kory asked. Finding the joy was usually her goal. She had been too a few parties, what she assumed were in keeping with the formal kind, with Dick. Of course being anywhere with Dick, was enjoyment in itself. So there still a lot she probably didn’t know about such parties, or what was expected. Kory had to wonder if such a thing wasn’t fun, on some level, was exactly was the point? Oh, she remembered Dick at times talking about something to do with politics. The mingling. Perhaps she was too distracting to hear anymore of the finer details. Kory smirked a kind little smile, as she suggested Bruce could show her. Bruce then leaned in. Unexpected, but welcomed. As Kory politely tuck the hair behind her ear, to best hear Bruce’s whispers. Kory with a playful hint in her smile. It also sounded similar to what Dick has said to her, probably even those exact words once or twice. At the sounds of ‘boring’, suppose he might not be much help in looking for the fun. Kory didn’t like to be as doubtful.
”If you find it boring. Why can’t you change it? Perhaps you could have considered a pizza party… Or a slumber party, you know I enjoy a good ghost story… Is there any preference of parties you do enjoy?”
Kory pointedly responded with curiosity, if Bruce so bored and underwhelm. Could he not change it? It was his house. His party. Did the rules matter that much? Somehow rules and parties, seemed like a loose thing, but suppose she’d been to different kind of parties. Suggesting the few kind of parties she did enjoy, as her mind wandered ever so slightly. Because naturally pizza and pyjamas would instantly turn a party around. Though suppose, that would perhaps accomplish what Bruce had set out. The human world could really be so strange to her sometimes. With a broaden smile and even more curiosity. Completely genuine. Kory did wonder what parties Bruce did like. At that thought and question. A gentleman had approached. It was no surprise, Kory imagined Bruce would be quite the popular man, particularly with being the host. Although she had not expected the gentleman to point his words. Kory initially looked shocked. His attention put towards Kory. Which threw her off to be completely honest. Why was she getting he was not so much of a gentleman’s vibe. Why did she get the impression he knew her? Was that accusations in his tone? Or was he seriously trying to come on to her? Either way, her impression soon changed. What was the word? How did the humans say it? Oh, right! A sleazy ball. Kory felt a little bit saved as Bruce responded, as she wasn’t entirely sure what to say. Kory certainly had no desires to start fires and at this rate if she hadn’t burned down Bruce’s house, it was doubtful that she would ever. She half imagined the Robins had probably done more damage in the past. Whether the occasional vase or they light shade taken out. Kory amused at herself at the occasional ‘practises’ as Dick called it when he was a young Robin. Alfred may not have been pleased, but Dick was so darn cute. So Kory was certainly confident with Bruce’s reply, that he would indeed be able to pay for any damage, but Kory was certain she was on her best behaviour. Kory turned to Bruce as he had done to her. At the sounds of his words. Her eyes then turned to Mr Cobblepot? The Penguin. Now she understood, the accusations she had felt in his voice. Whilst she couldn’t recall his face, having been completely out of her mind at the time. She did know his name. Having attempted to personally apologise for what to the Ice Lounge, as she had also offered an apology publicly. It was a touchy thing at the time, but it seemed Gotham or at least most of the city had forgiven or at least taken her apology. It had been Scarecrow behind it all, that had been pretty clear, but it seemed Oswald. Mr Cobblepot, had not forgiven. Kory knew he wasn’t much a man to trust with the reputation as The Penguin, she knew he wasn’t someone to trust, but she had insincerely felt bad for the things Scarecrow had made her do. That included the destruction of his ice castle or Lounge. The people that had lost their lives.
”Mr Cobblepot? The Ice Lounge… I am truly sorry. I was not in my right mind… If I could take back the actions I caused, I would in a heart beat… I can understand and respect, if you can’t forgive me… Though I’d ask to consider, putting most of the blame on the one who was truly behind it. He took a lot from both of us. This city included.”
Kory keyed in between conversations as she wanted to get her apologies across, if Mr Cobblepot had indeed wanted to hear it, although maybe not. Kory tried as kindly as she could as she had tried before, of course he took that he didn’t want to forgive, he had that right and wanted the space as the humans tend to talk about. Either way. Kory took the moment to put some of how she had felt across. Without going into complete detail, she had tried to great lengths to put it all behind as she usually did, but she couldn’t completely deny the effects had been long felt. When the Scarecrow had kidnapped her and drugged her. Twisting and bent her mind. Used her as though she was a puppet on strings. Kory had not felt so captive, since she was captive by the Citadel. Suppose it was a little different, but it still took some recovering. A lot of recovering, as Kory did not say in detail as to what Scarecrow’s actions and deeds had in deed took. That was a little too personal, particularly with someone like The Penguin, but Bruce would know. Kory had miscarried not too long after… So its not too surprising she didn’t have the fondest thoughts on Scarecrow, but he was in Arkham as far as she was aware. Out of the way of doing any more harm. One could hope, of course if such a path a crossed again. Kory was certain it would play out quite differently. Not that she was entirely that revengeful, but X’hal was he a cruel. Cruel soul. Troubled beyond most repair… Kory’s mind soon found a little ease, as Bruce brought up Mr Cobblepot running for mayor. Oh. There must be an election. Actually, Kory kinda recalled a brief mentioning on the news recently.
”Who are you voting for, Bruce? I wish I could, it sounds kinda fun… If I could, I’d strive for peace. This city could do with more peace.”
Kory then turned back to Bruce, curious as to whom he had pledged his vote to. Feeling quite on the outskirts of the election and it would seem politics in general, but being an alien kinda kept her from getting much involved. Although if she could, peace would definitely be up there. It was a natural thing to want, particularly for a tamaranean. Her planet up until Blackfire’s betrayal, had consist for hundreds of years in complete peace. So it was certainly do able and having been born heir. If Kory had become queen, her role would have to been to keep the peace. Of course, Kory would also question some of the laws on Earth regarding her kind. It just did not sit well with her, that an alien could be slaughtered for no reason without punishment, but yet reversed. Even if it was in self defines. if an alien killed or harmed a human, it would mean death, not even just jail time. It didn’t really feel like justice, more it just expressed how little value her life meant on Earth. It made her a little sad, because she loved Earth and would do anything in her power to keep it safe. To not allow what happen to Tamaran, happen on Earth. In what way she could outside politics. Kory would bring however much peace she could. As cliché as that may sound coming from someone of her kind.

No one typically invites Oswald Cobblepot to events because they'd be happy to see him there. It was considered polite and wise to include him on the guest list then hope he would be too busy to attend. Oswald is from one of the old families with old ties but mostly it was his wrath and money that kept him in social circles, very few wanted to openly be on his bad side. Certainly his family name had been tarnished considerably and his wealth wavered in the part, partly due to his mother who before she died was tolerated as a gambling drunkard who was a little too friendly with other people's husbands and the left Oswald with practically nothing but debt but the damage to the Cobblepot name was mostly by Oswald of course. It had been a number of years since he'd last been in jail though and his donation to tonight's charity would be generous. On paper Oswald was a reformed citizen and the Penguin a thing of the past. No one could prove otherwise anyway though many had tried.
Bruce's feeling of displeasure was mutual anyway, Oswald didn't like him either. Too young, foolish and self absorbed not to mention never on time. If he knew he was stood next to Batman though dislike would not be a strong enough word. Oswald hid it well though, a smile forced for the Wayne that would look genuine enough to the untrained eye, Batman would no doubt know the difference "A noble sentiment though paying for damages out of pocket is for the ill prepared and a fortune squandered" He was sure Bruce knew all about squandering fortunes.
His temper flair when Kory started speaking but Oswald was well practiced in forcing it back down. A deep breath and he continues on with an even tone "Your regret is appreciated and should the GCPD ever hold Dr Crane long enough I'm sure he will be held accountable for all his crimes" Though if Ozzy got to him before the police he still needed to get back at Crane too, sadly though his intelligence placed the man in Arkham City where is was difficult to get to him "Unfortunately that night is not easily forgotten" Though Oswald usually tried to avoid the memory, all his hard work and the lounge still crumbed away.
Fortunately Bruce provides distraction though it's not a positive remark. Oswald does properly smile at the predictability though "Ah, experience. If experience with the job were all we needed we wouldn't be in such a mess. Our current Mayor is certainly one of experience but I don't believe you could say things have improved under his guidance. Or are you of the opinion that this Arkham City project is a success?" he gestures to Kory at her words "Once more noble idealism. Unfortunately our city officials mistake quiet for peace and believe if they bury their problems out of sight it's the same thing"

Bruce shook his head politely and gave another chuckle. The masks they wore, it was all a facade. The only genuine one in the room was probably kory. She didn't bother hiding who she was. It was somthing to be admired really, that innocent charm a stranger to our world has. Though with the amount of time she'd spent on earth, one could hardly call her a stranger at this point. He allowed Cobblepot to finish before offering a retort. That same plastered, political smile laced with just a touch of arsenic returned. His sentences dripping with sincerity, "It's no secret the Wayne Foundation has been against the Arkham City movement since it first crept its way across my desk asking for a grant. I denied it there and I've been working diligently to campaign against it ever since they put up the walls. Old Gotham should be a historical site, not a prison. As for our current mayor, I would have voted in favor of recall if it were brought up. And while yes, experience doesn't necessarily mean the best canidate, you can't deny it does play a factor."
Bruce however, had heard what Oswald said. If he was being completely honest, the platform penguin was running on, did sound promising. If it were anyone else besides Cobblepot, they would probably have his vote. But, because it was notorious underworld crime boss, murderer, thief, gun smuggler, Cobblepot; his first instinct was distrust. "If I may offer some advice Oz, if you want the people to trust you, You'll need more than a fancy suit and a smile. Past deeds make a difference, and if you expect anyone to back you with your current track record, you're in for a shock come Election Day. That being said...I do like what I'm hearing." He placed a hand on Oswald's shoulder and gave a bit of a rough squeeze, "I want to believe the Cobblepots could have a reputation in Gotham for something other than crime. But, it's not me you need to convince..." Bruce motioned to the rest of the crowd and nodded, "it's them."
Bruce released Oswald's shoulder and frowned subtly. It was getting dificult to maintain this facade. All these smiling faces, all these false sentiments, it was exhausting. He would much rather be out there, punching thugs into next week and chasing leads on this Arkham City business. But, he had a reputation to uphold. He really did hate these parties, he wished something would happen in the city. He yearned to see that light appear in the clouds. His symbol calling him to some crime, some investigation so he could take his mind of this monotony. He looked out of the window, hoping against hope. Of course no such signal appeared and Bruce had to chase that frown away as quickly as it arrived. Replacing it with a cool, calculated face of non-expression and looking out into the crowd of people, hoping for a distraction...

A lovely and fun night of dancing, had been what Kory had expected. It just seemed a given with most parties, plus music. There was clearly music, but with the added shake to Bruce’s head. He didn’t even need to say any words, it was clear. No dancing! Somehow that didn’t seem the greatest excuse, but Kory would accept it. Besides, least there was a friend for company. How close they were a friends could be up in the air, a tad. She was dating his adopted son, so publicly she was like family. Hmmm, close to it maybe. Of course she was deep enough in the circle to know the secrets. To know the wings Bruce flew, generally during the night. That the tamaranean princess had to gather very few others in this room would know and of course she would make no attempt to reveal that secret herself. It was his and his alone to do as he wished. Unlike Kory otherwise known as Starfire herself. Freely and genuine she was. Hiding such a thing was not only somewhat difficult, Kory just didn’t want to as simple as that was. It just wasn’t the norm for her, if such a thing existed and she held no shame. It probably helped that she could relevantly protect herself and she wasn’t someone that held a great deal of fear. She was raised to face it and overcome it. She was also raised to embrace who she was. The many years she spent as a slave, only embodied an even more will for freedom to live. Kory was gifted with something no one had the right to ever take away and she would go to great lengths to keep it that way.
Despite, it was close. Extremely close, when the Scarecrow had sensually gotten his claws into her or more prominently his drugs. His will. His control. Whatever it was, had felt like a whirlwind, she had found herself stuck in and it had been living hell to get back out it. Out of it, she sure as X’hal did. As soundly as she could, but it had taken a little toll. With the use that Scarecrow had with Starfire’s hands. Had cause such destructions, which was really due to no fault of her own, other than in whatever sick way it happened. It happened, she got caught in his web and on some level Kory was left with knowing she had done things. She’d never would do and yet she did them. She wasn’t one for guilt, but she wasn’t completely going to sweep it under the rugs. She couldn’t just make excuses for it, but she hadn’t completely been severed from being who she was. As a tamaranean, she had to find the way to move on and for a great she had. Of course, she had to expect and accept that some humans would not. Although in the sentiment of the conversation she had now with Mr Cobblepot, it seemed he had appreciated her apology. Her words to some level of degree and to that Kory was certainly warmed to hear. Of course, she of who and sensually what he was, but at the end of the day she personally had not known him. He had not warranted the attack that she had been made to do. Kory smiled at the notion of Scarecrow being held accountable for his actions. Of course, if he somehow wiggled himself free. Well, Kory wasn’t apposed to get him back in there himself. Not that she was vengeful type. Had this been Tamaran, his chances of survival would have greatly diminished.
”Oh, I am saddened to hear that, Mr Cobblepot. I offer hope and good fortune that you can find comfort in going forward… Are you looking to rebuild? From what I hear of how the lounge looked like before, I’m sure now could be even more exquisite. Although I can’t say I favour the cold over the heat, but I do like a good igloo.”
Kory offered some sincerity at the sounds of Mr Cobblepot holding on to what happened. It could certainly be unhealthy and really no place, but it was seemingly a human thing. They held the past far more to their chest than a tamaranean would or was suppose to do. As there was no changing it and even with such a power you’re bound to mess something else up. Past was where it was. As even how much had been painful even to Kory, she had made effort as she could, with friends that helped get her on the moving track again and living for the now. Offering the same with kindness to Mr Cobblepot, as much as that was worth, but she did not see friendship entirely a chance in his eyes. She was probably judged, weighed and labeled wanted by all she was concerned, but it was what it was. Kory had no real leaping desires to invite him for a tea party, but she still had little reason not to being friendly. Kind, as kind as she could. In offering interest in the possibility of a new Ice Lounge. Kory really had little recollection, so most was join off from what she generally told. Sounded mainly a party palace of ice. Though Dick had assured her it was far less than an Ice Castle as she was so eager to keep calling it. She exceeded of course. The attention was deterred as the two men talked politics. X’hal, they really do talk about these things at parties. It was somewhat fascinating to see. She didn’t have a great thought to bud in, it probably wasn’t much of her place to begin with, but though she did frown slightly. As Arkham City was brought up, how such a place was probable and even legal was astounding to her. Though a lot of laws on Earth seemed rather baffling and occasionally unnecessary.
”Can’t say I’m too fond at the idea of Arkham City, either. Practically handing over a city to criminals does seem greatly offensive… Such a place would not have been tolerated on my world.”
Kory voiced her subtle opinion, but there would have been a nice level of emotion brought to the mix. Practically calling a prison a city and putting it all, but side by side to the rest of Gotham. It had been rather mind blowing that this had actually been written off and could actually be legal, but who was Kory to truly voice. She had little weight as she had little to no right, but could perhaps help in other aspects if it came to that. Shaking her head at the mere thought of something like this on Tamaran. It wouldn’t have even had the slimiest of chances, but then they weren’t even known for having prisons. What need for prisons when they had peace. True peace among their own people… Too which when Mr Cobblepot responded to Kory’s desire to see more peace, it somewhat confused her. Idealism. How was it idealism to want peace? Sure it would be an ideal, but it was far more than just hope. Like an idealistic dream. Kory believed it to be very much possible and she had little reason to think otherwise.
”From my perception it can be and is basic realism.”
Responded subtly, whilst Kory wasn’t saying this world was in peace. It hardly was clearly, but she was vastly in a state of mind, that such peace was completely achievable. It was just a matter of the right cause and action. In that, such a thing could also be very possible in even Gotham itself, though it did seem to enjoy clinging to the darkness. More than most cities Kory had visited, though it wasn’t quite there with the Citadel, but then that was a world that knew nothing else than war and cruelty. That was a world that knew no peace. Despite how it had ended and in some loop one could say it was in partial because of Kory. Her sister no less would probably claim that, despite the only thing Kory had done was be born, but seriously up until then. There was shear and utter peace. Perfect, Tamaran was hardly perfect, but it was a paradise that Kory could indeed miss. Whilst she had found somewhat of a home here. Feeling less of a stranger, but sure there was going to be something that could catch her up. It just wouldn’t be able to hold her down. Outfit:

She was late. And she hadn't meant to be. But life was life and she entirely hadn't swiped a few things along the way there. Breathing out before the door was opened for her, and her coat taken, she geared herself up for one of the more boring events she'd had in many, many nights. As she was offered a flute of ...something, she scanned the room, making note of the more familiar faces, and the not so familiar ones.
Even as she was approached, she was careful with what she said. She was not only known for her company, but her philanthropic events. And aside from a few of the more familiar faces, that was all she was known for. As it was, she was even shocked that Oswald was here! Then again, it was always a delight to speak with the man. He was a rather skilled entrepreneur, as well as a loyal fence for her. And the Iceberg was always welcoming to her. And they served a to die for Vodka martini, always remembering the extra olives she enjoyed.
Pausing as it seemed she was late, but not as late as the host, she paused and raised her glass as soon as Mr. Wayne himself finished his little speech. Always the fop, she stifled the comments on the tip of her tongue as she heard the gaggle of women already fawning over him, conspiring how to latch to his arm for the evening. Even as she spotted the statuesque form of Starfire, she smiled. Kory was a dream in a beautifully crafted purple gown; something reminiscent of her 'other' outfit that even Selina was familiar with.
Almost out of character, she herself had gone with something more subdued. Black on black was her gown, one shouldered and made of a delicate silk organza that draped beautifully over her own form. The jewels draped at nape and ears were her own, of course. Things she'd actually purchased; bid on and outbid several other collectors that had wished ill on her, actually. But the beautiful emerald set was hers, and not going anywhere. It set off her large eyes nicely, and paired with the ornate cuff pushed up her forearm. She'd wait her turn to speak with Mr. Wayne. She was a patient woman.

Oswald's smile falters a little as Kory questions if he's rebuilding after she burnt down the original Iceberg Lounge "I did rebuild, bigger and better than ever. Alas it was completed just in time for all this Arkham city nonsense to swallow up the land it's built on. It is now part of the prison, trapped on the other side of the walls and no doubt crawling with criminals. One day I hope to have it returned, hopefully in one piece along with a return to glory for the rest of that section of Gotham" criminals who work for Oswald mostly, he might be trapped on the outside but he still has his men on the inside.
A great deal of time and research has gone in to Oswald's campaign for mayor to figure out who had lost the most with the creation of Arkham city and who fought the hardest against it. He was here for a reason, to check out the potential and Bruce was on his list. He didn't really have high hopes for Bruce being supportive but it was just as important to see who else they might like for a candidate.
He resists the urge to tense up when Bruce squeezes his shoulder, the experience he'd had through life taught him that people getting close enough to touch him was almost always bad. He had to pretend to be fine with it and smile, even chuckle slightly at the mention of his past. His look of uncomfortable regret was perfect, as if he was sorry but didn't like to talk about it as he glanced among the party goers "Past deeds are not something I hide, there would be no point, they are printed for all to see and I cannot change the mistakes of my youth. It is the past though" He hasn't been back to prison and the police haven't found anything to pin on him in a few years since he started being extra careful. On paper at least he was reformed and a law abiding citizen now "Helping Gotham to see it as history will be the hard part"
Distraction thankfully appeared for all at that moment as Oswald spotted Selina making her way through the crowd. Finally a friendly face or at least one he was genuinely happier to see and didn't just know from the fakery of high society "Miss Kyle, delightful as ever. It's been some time, where have you been hiding yourself?"
