Nora cracked a small smile at Dr. Stenet’s acknowledgement of her somewhat limited knowledge of current events. She could have answered those questions quite easily ten years ago, but now…she wasn’t even sure what day of the week it was. Well, she would remedy that soon enough. There was a lot of catching up to do. Nora nodded at Nina’s recommendation of watching the news – she certainly would – but maybe some old newspapers or articles would serve her better.
After Nina had processed her answer, the good doctor issued further orders to test her wellness, Nora supposed. Complying with each request, Nora almost anxiously awaited the verdict from Nina. She had no cause to be nervous – she had utmost faith in her husband’s treatment – but something was a little unnerving about being tested like this. Once Nina gave the all-clear, a weight lifted from Nora’s shoulders. She let out a relieved sigh, pressing a hand lightly to her heart.
As she leaned back lightly on her pillows to rest, Nora glanced over to Nina who stood facing her husband now. It seemed like the doctor was preparing to leave. Nora smiled politely at her. “Thank you so much, Dr. Stenet,” she said cheerfully, “I do hope you have a wonderful rest of the day.” Nora’s gaze drifted from the good doctor to her husband whom she shot a reassuring smile at. Inclining her head toward Dr. Stenet, she indicated that Victor should attend to the doctor before worrying himself about her. After all, Dr. Stenet had made a house call. Nora was sure that she was a very busy woman. She didn’t want to keep her for any longer than necessary.
To make sure Victor got the message, Nora gave him a somewhat stern look – as stern as she could muster, which wasn’t very admittedly, but she hoped it would get the job done. Victor had always had an inclination forget about everything else while worried about her. It was a very endearing quality, but sometimes first things came first. Worried that she might have overdone it with the sternness of her nonverbal message, she smiled him in an attempt to take some of the edge off.
While Victor dealt with Dr. Stenet, her eyes wandered over to the window to gaze out at a Gotham ten years removed from what she had known. She wondered how much had changed. Much apparently with these costumed…people running around the streets. And with her own Victor. He seemed so much the same in her eyes. But…he was a criminal now. Yet, he’d done it all for her. Oh Victor…There was no possible way that she could be angry with him. And yet…what he’d done was wrong as well. Was there not one soul that would have helped him? No one at all? Ten years alone…

It's with a mixture of patience and impatience that Victor watches Dr. Stenet assessing his wife. He may not want her to rush the tests, but he'd like them to be over so that he can talk to her properly again. Much to his relief, the doctor doesn't find any problems, and he immediately shifts to take the woman's place at his wife's bedside.
Only the woman doesn't move. He frowns at her, very much unhappy with her request. She can wait while he talks to Nora, and he doesn't want to waste this precious time with his wife. On the other hand, he knows that the doctor can be incredibly stubborn when she wants to be. The only thing that makes her tolerable to work with is that this doesn't happen very often. And he's very much inclined to ignore her implied demand, if only to reassert the fact that it is he, not her, who decides when she can leave. He stares down at the woman, trying to decide how to handle this problem.
However, as he looks at her he can also see past her to the expression on Nora's face, and that immediately makes him start to reassess the situation. At first he tries to resist - Nora doesn't understand the situation. If he gives in to this demand that will mean that there will be more demands in the future. Dr. Stenet needs to respect his decisions. But, on the other hand, it truthfully wouldn't take him very long to arrange for her transportation. Perhaps she even deserves the consideration of a timely return journey after her effective assistance, especially when it wasn't strictly voluntary. In mere moments he finds his assessment of the situation completely changed.
Activating the communication device on his suit, Victor can suddenly be heard saying, "Return to the house and escort Dr. Stenet back to her residence. Ensure that she can't find her way back." Shifting his attention back to Dr. Stenet, he states, "Wait in the front room - some of my men will come and pick you up shortly. Inform Shanice that we are not to be disturbed."
Having not seen the look given from wife to husband, Nina is mildly surprised that he agrees so quickly. But she simply says, "Thank you." She turns back to look at Nora one more time to say, "Again, it was nice to meet you." And, not wanting to try Mr. Freeze's patience more than she feels that she has to, she immediately leaves.
Victor watches her leave until she's fully out of his way, but then he immediately turns his full attention back to Nora. "Are you really all right?" he asks as he quickly repositions the chair to just the right spot so that he can sit next to her, and then takes a seat. He may have gotten a doctor's professional opinion, but Nora's own opinion of her state of being is just as important to him.

Nora was glad that Victor had acquiesced to her nonverbal request. Sending the doctor home in a timely manner was not only polite, but she would also enjoy a bit of privacy with her husband. Yet some of the phrasing and words her husband used to address whoever was on the other side of the phone struck her as a little strange. Make sure that Dr. Stenet couldn’t find her way back here? Well, perhaps that shouldn’t be too surprising…given her husband’s current…ah…occupation? Could one call it that?
As Dr. Stenet bid her one final farewell to which Nora nodded and smiled, Nora gazed up at her husband, feeling a tender warmth in her heart. A smile immediately spread across her face as he asked if she was alright. She let out a light, flitting laugh and reached out running her hand lightly over the dome that protected him from room temperature.
“Yes, dear,” she replied, “I feel splendid actually.” Nora beamed up at her husband happily. Her expression softened a little as some concern worked itself into the lines of her face. “I really do hope I didn’t worry you too much. I truly didn’t mean to be such a sleepyhead.” With that, Nora lifted a hand to cover her mouth as she yawned groggily.
Somewhat abruptly, Nora’s countenance grew more serious as she stared at her husband. “But more importantly, I’ve kept you waiting for an answer, haven’t I?” She reached out for his gloved hand to take it in both of her smaller, delicate ones. “I love you, Victor. I always have and always will. I want to stay by your side. I know you’ll find a cure for your condition. I could even help! My medical knowledge is rather dated…but…I want to be with you! If…If you’ll still have me, of course.” Nora smiled lovingly up at Victor even if she was somewhat concerned.
Nora so unconditionally loved and trusted this man. Her Victor. She only hoped that he would allow her to stay. She didn’t care that he was so changed physically. On the inside, he was still very much her Victor. She could tell that much. She didn’t even care that he was a criminal. Well, perhaps that might bother her a touch, but it didn’t override her love for him. Not even close. There was nothing more in the world that she wanted than to spend her life with him.

Victor finds it to be very difficult indeed to hold on to his concerns when he hears the sweet sound of his wife's laugh, the comforting words that she says, and sees her beautiful smile. He can't help but smile in return - an expression that many in Gotham assume that he doesn't know how to make. Though it isn't a smile without any worry behind it. "If I stopped worrying about you, I wouldn't have very much to do," he says somewhat cryptically, though he appears to be very much comforted. When she then quite abruptly changes the subject - his expression clears almost instantly. He is, in a way, terrified to hear the answer to a question that has haunted him for longer than Nora probably even realizes. It was many years ago that when his beloved wife woke she would find everything changed - the world, Gotham, and most importantly himself. Changes that he knew she wouldn't like. What he didn't know was whether or not they were changes that she could accept. And though she might see things differently, to him it was some kind of a miracle that she fell in love with him in the first place - a large part of him is therefore quite certain that she would now choose to leave him. And though at first that thought was too terrible to even contemplate, it's one he's had years to come to terms with - he's had time to accept the possibility. Which is the only reason why he can sit so calmly as she decides their fate. And why, when she's finished, he doesn't know how to react for several moments. He'd certainly hoped that she'd say that, but he can't say that he expected it! The sensible decision for her to make right now is to leave him and to seek a new life - to find a new place in a world that would welcome her with open arms. She can find happiness without him. But Nora doesn't always make the most sensible of decisions - such as the one to marry him to begin with - and he knows that she would be unhappy if he didn't allow her the choice. So it had been a possibility - now it's a reality. Gently taking the hand now in his into both of his hands as well, he says, "My love, the life I lead now is not easy, and it isn't safe. It's often unpleasant, and far from what you deserve. But as long as staying with me is what you wish, then I will do everything within my power to make you happy." As he makes this promise, his expression is troubled - he means every word that he'd said and truly appreciates the gravity of them. That's not an easy promise to keep, and he knows that it's probably impossible to reach his own standard in that regard. But he's definitely going to try. To say that he loves Nora is a bit of an understatement – he lives for Nora. Though a large part of him was prepared for her to desire the opposite of what she just expressed, that doesn't mean that he knows what he would actually do with himself if she had. It would be the end of his life as he knows it - a terrible prospect! Though it's one he would be willing to face if that's what Nora wanted of him.

Nora smiled a touch with mirth at Victor’s assessment of worry. Well, she would allow it. It might be a touch selfish, but she rather enjoyed being fretted over by her husband. With her family fairly distant since her marriage, Victor had become the single most important person in her life. He had allowed her the freedom to pursue her dream of being a professional dancer. Even…even though she felt a bit like she put too much pressure on him. He had seemed more than happy to do it then, but there had always been lingering doubts in Nora’s mind. Yet whenever she had brought them up, Victor had reassured her.
As Nora searched Victor’s face after issuing her plea, she found that Victor was…surprised perhaps? It was several long moments as he processed her request. She felt her chest tighten anxiously. Perhaps she didn’t know what she was getting into. Perhaps she was in over her head. But…Nora was willing to brave an uncertain future and equally uncertain past as long as Victor was at her side.
As he took her hand in his massive gloved ones, she looked up into his familiar yet alien eyes and listened as he made his promise to her. Leaning forward, Nora pressed her forehead against Victor’s clasped hands, closing her eyes as a relief spread through her features. “And I will do the same for you, dear,” she said after a long moment, looking up at her frosty husband with misty eyes and sweet smile. “As long as I can be with you, I’ll brave anything. We can work things out if we work together. Any unpleasantness or hardship. We can beat it. Together.”
Taking her hand from her husband, Nora extended her pinky finger out, smiling a bit sheepishly. “Do we have an accord?” she asked with as much pomp and circumstance as she could muster.
Leaving Victor wasn’t really an option in her mind. She simply would not leave Victor or give up on him. She wouldn’t quite have known what to do with herself had he refused her plea. Now she didn’t have to consider it. Today would mark the start of their new life together. For better or worse. Nora would be there at Victor’s side. Her semi-serious demeanor shattered with an indescribably happy smile, effectively ruining the dramatic effect that she had been going for in their solemn vow. Dashed the effect to pieces, really. Yet…she felt happier than she had in a good, long time.

Nora isn't the only one who is greatly relieved. To Victor, Nora is not merely the most important person in his life, but the only important thing in his life. He has no other priority, no other joy, and no other desire. To find that, unlike he feared, he does not need to face the terrible prospect of finding a way to live without her is such a huge weight off of his mind that he even feels physically lighter. Somehow his marriage remains intact. Not that there won't be a great deal of difficulty ahead of them - he needs to adjust to the fact that she's awake almost as much as she needs to adjust to all the changes that have happened while she was asleep. But he's confident that he and his beloved can work their way through the difficulties as long as they're both willing to do what they have to in order to remain together. "Together," he agrees.
It's then that she does something that causes his expression to soften about as much as it can. Oh, he'd almost forgotten - but how could he? Ten years is a very long time, and over time the details become hazy. Because no time has passed for Nora, she is no different and her memories are still as fresh as ever, but this is not the case for him. Still, how could he have come so close to forgetting something so precious? But his wife's words and movements pull the memory back from the brink and he finds himself responding to the newly familiar beginning of their little ritual with the ending.
With one hand, he gently wraps his pinky around hers, and places the other hand on his chest. Between being seated, the inflexibility of his suit, and the fact that he can't lean forward very far without risking hitting Nora in the head with the dome of his suit, what was a deep bow is currently reduced to more of a dip of his head - but he still leans his head so far forward he nearly bumps his forehead into the glass of the dome at the level his chin is normally. "We have an accord, my Lady," he says quite formally, as if he really was addressing some high born lady in a royal court - the fact that his voice leans very strongly toward being extremely serious anyway and his natural ability to keep a straight face only adds to dramatic flair of the situation.
Though when he lifts his head, he's smiling softly - quite clearly amused. He sighs heavily and says, "I have missed you, my love, but you have not changed at all." And to judge by the absolutely infatuated expression in his eyes, he'd not have it any other way.

Seeing Victor’s face soften had an uncanny effect on Nora’s heart. It felt so full. Full to bursting with an overwhelming sense of warmth and love. Yet tight too. Like it was too small for her chest to hold. For Victor’s part, he completed their little ritual with his customary seriousness. Nora couldn’t help herself. Her smile beamed up at her husband’s soft, gentle expression. The amusement in his face only caused her to issue a soft chuckle.
Nora felt her cheeks grow hot, turning her face a very happy kind of rosy. She even felt tears welling up in her eyes, blurring her vision. Goodness. She was quite overcome, wasn’t she? Releasing her husband’s pinky, Nora dabbed at her eyes. Her Victor had been missing her for ten long years. She couldn’t even begin to imagine it. “So sorry to keep you waiting, Victor, dear heart,” Nora managed after a moment, “I promise I’ll not stray so far from you again.”
Bringing two fingers to her lips, Nora kissed them lightly and reached out, touching the spot level with his lips. Smiling, she wiped away the rest of her tears and took a deep breath. “Phew…I dare say that’s enough blubbering from me.” Planting one and on her hip and pointing resolutely forward, Nora start defiantly ahead of her.
“On to the morrow! And whatever joys or trials that brings us!” Turning her head to gaze at Victor, she grinned confidently. “Dwelling on the past will get us nowhere,” Nora said, taking her husband’s hand. “Our life together starts anew today.”
After being so very swept up in the moment – and a little carried away, she’d admit – Nora let out a little sigh as she relaxed a bit. Well, perhaps a little dwelling on the past would be alright in her case. She needed to catch up after all. Nora had really said that for Victor’s benefit. In an attempt to allow him to cast off those ten years of hardship. Surely, it probably wouldn’t be as easy as all that. But…It certainly was a start.
And, no matter what she would hear, Nora had already made up her mind. This was her Victor. Her husband. The person she loved most in this world. The man who had saved her life. She would never think ill of him. Never turn away from him. Undoubtedly, she would hear many awful things from the news or other sources. Perhaps Nora was not quite prepared for that. She did not how she would react or take that news. It caused her some distress. But…ultimately…
Closing her eyes, Nora leaned out toward him. She could never be so happy anywhere else but in his arms.
“Victor…I love you.”

To judge by the fact that Victor's expression remains unchanged when Nora apologizes for her absence, the apology is unnecessary because he wasn't upset with her to begin with. If he blames anyone for just how long it took, he blames himself. Then again, he also did his best and under very difficult circumstances - the task of curing her simply took a very long time, and understandably so. How many people had told him that it was impossible to do at all? To accomplish the impossible in a mere decade seems to be quite fast from that perspective. Still, the separation was difficult for him. Yet in a way, they're still separated. When Nora indicates a kiss with her fingers, Victor responds by gently bringing one of his hands to the side of her face - gently brushing away a bit of moisture away from her cheek that she'd missed. With his suit on the only part of him that can actually feel something of the outside of the world is his hands, and that through a very thick covering. If they could go to his lab then it would be marginally better - instead of him being wrapped up in something it would be her. This is an unacceptable state of affairs - he will have to do the impossible again by curing himself. But this time he will have Nora by his side instead of frozen in a protective case. That probably won't actually improve his ability to do this task - in fact, if anything, she'll probably distract him and slow him down. But life will be much more enjoyable in the meantime - he's already probably experienced more happiness since Nora woke up than he did over the entire period of time when Nora was frozen. During that time his only real joy was when he reached a breakthrough in his research, bringing him that much closer to seeing her alive and well again. When she begins to lean forward, he can see her intention and is quick to help her. But it's something he has to be very careful about - every movement he makes in his suit is strengthened and enhanced by his suit, and it was not designed to be delicate. And though he's accustomed enough to his suit to know his own strength while he's in it, that only means that he knows all the better not to do anything too risky. Attempting to give her a hug would be out of the question, but he does what he can - he wraps an arm behind her back to support her as she moves, adding to her limited strength so that she can be that much closer to him. It's probably not exactly comfortable, given that his arm is encased solid acrylic plates, but it's unlikely that she cares at the moment. And she'd be able to feel the strength of his arm - handling her weight so effortlessly that it's clearly at only a fragment of its capacity. Meanwhile his other hand has not left her face - at least with his hands he can be as delicate as he wants to be. At her words, his response is immediate. "I love you too, my beloved Nora," he says, letting his thumb slide slowly down her cheek and across her lips, "Thank you for coming back to me." Not that she had anything more to do with that than she did with being gone in the first place, but he's grateful nevertheless.

Held in the tentative, loving embrace of her husband, it hit Nora. What a miracle this was. Not that she had not comprehended some of the gravity of it all before, but, to be perfectly honest, waking after being frozen for ten years at death’s door would make even the most mentally disciplined person a little groggy. She was here. She was alive. After having…having somewhat accepted her own demise…Not that she had not believed in Victor! Quite the contrary! Nora had certainly believed that he would try to cure her. But she never could have possibly dreamed that she…she would get to grow old with him.
Content to stay in Victor’s arms for decent while, Nora let out a happy sigh. His arm, covered in the acrylic plates of his armored suit, pressed tentatively against her back, supporting her weight. The strength in that arm was tremendous. Nora could tell that Victor was treating her as though she were a feather. Still worried about her welfare no doubt. Yet already she began to feel the itch. The want to stretch her stiff body. However…rest was likely the best recourse for her right now. Fortunately, nothing was as restful as being held by the man she loved.
Tilting her head up so that her blue eyes looked into his, Nora pressed her hand lightly against his as she kissed his thumb lightly as it ran across her lips. It was the most she could offer him at the moment. His condition now separated them. However, Nora had faith. Victor would find a cure. Her only worry was that it wouldn’t be for many long years. Victor looked exactly as she had last seen him. Well. Perhaps not exactly…But similar enough to make her think as if no time at all had passed.
“Very glad to be back, dear Victor,” she replied with a smile warm enough to melt the heart.
Resting against him for several more long moments in silence, Nora merely appreciated her beloved Victor’s presence. After another moment, she let out a soft sigh and pulled back just enough to look back up into her husband’s face. Her thoughts flitted to home, to Victor, to his work, to Victor again. She tilted her head slightly and grinned a slightly mischievous grin.
“So when…might I be able to see this laboratory of yours? I’m sure it is quite something,” she asked with something of a knowing tone in her voice.
Victor took pride in his work. This Nora knew. She hoped he might be eager enough to show her soon. Perhaps not today, but very soon. After all, Nora couldn’t stay in bed forever, and she did so love to watch Victor at work. She remembered. There was always a certain joy. Victor came to life in his lab. His eyes lit up. He became totally consumed by the mystery of it all and the process of solving said mystery. Nora adored seeing him like that. She imagined it was much the same for Victor whenever he used to watch her dance.

Can Nora even begin to appreciate the ten years it took to save her? Quite likely not. Yes, she'd had some time before she was frozen to understand her situation - the fact that she was, more likely than not, going to die. But that's nothing like what Victor went through. Ten years of stubborn, focused work. Thousands of avenues of research explored, and almost as many failures. How many times had he been confronted by the real possibility that he would never find a way? He had reached a point in his research where he was grasping at straws - pursuing every line of research that had any possibility at all of bringing him the slightest step forward, even if it was extremely unlikely. He'd exhausted every likely path years ago. Most men would have given up even before that point.
But instead, here she is - alive and well because after all this time he stumbled upon the one last incredibly unlikely source for the last piece of the impossible puzzle. Victor is not a religious man - it's not that he's decided that he doesn't believe that some sort of God exists, it's that he never thought that it was worth the time the time to even ponder the question. Yet he would be quick to agree that the woman in his arms is nothing short of miraculous. And not just because she's alive - though he'd call that a miracle too, in spite of the fact that he personally used the scientific method to its fullest in order to cure her - but also because she not only fell in love with him in the first place, she wishes to stay with him even now. All of it flies completely in the face of the laws of probability.
Quite content to simply hold her for as long as her desire to be held is more important to her than the discomfort she no doubt feels from being supported by such a nearly robotic arm, Nora now has what is certainly the best view of his face that she's had since waking - the glass dome tends to be more difficult to see through the further from him you are. He most certainly looks different - his white skin alone has a drastic effect on his appearance, but that isn't nearly as significant as the total loss of his hair. He's not merely bald - he has no eyebrows, no eyelashes, and not even a trace of a five o'clock shadow. And yet the lines of his face are unchanged - he most certainly does not look ten years older. There are no new wrinkles, no bags under his eyes from sleepless nights, no new scars.
And his expressions are all exactly as she remembers, from the very subdued look of contentment on his face that shifts into a curious one when he catches his wife's grin, to the bright look of happiness as he thinks about his lab - or rather, the several different labs he has available - which he's really quite proud of, actually. "Oh yes..." he agrees quickly, but then he frowns a bit as he adds, "But it may take some time." Knowing that she won't like that any more than he does, he's quick to explain, "I'm most comfortable in temperatures at around negative 30 degrees Fahrenheit - which is... very cold. My men have said that it's cold enough to make their skin hurt. I could raise the temperature - I do not have to be comfortable - but even if you raise it to zero, that is still very cold for you. And zero is quite hot for me. Survivable but barely tolerable - anything much above that becomes hazardous to my health very quickly. And I will not risk your health or mine by being impatient - it will happen soon enough."

Staring up at her husband’s face, Nora found herself fascinated by the familiar yet alien features of his face. It was odd. The white skin, of course, was a drastic change, but she found that easy to get accustomed to. What was actually more jarring was the complete lack of any sort of body hair. Though Victor actually looked fairly dashing bald and clean shaven, the lack of eyebrows and eyelashes looked quite odd. Nora imagined that she would adjust with more time. After all, he might be lacking hair and his skin might be white now, but he was still her Victor. The lines of his face could not lie.
Still. Nora found it a little odd that no sign that time had passed was even evident on her husband’s face. She had his word that ten whole years had passed, but aside from an accident that looked like it could have happened yesterday, Victor was wholly unchanged. He still aged, surely. Didn’t he? The worry that the search for the cure might last until she was old and withered crossed her mind.
Nora bit her lip slightly, trying to keep some of the worry from her face. Even his expressions were completely the same. Not changed by time in the slightest. They were every bit as endearing and adorable as Nora remembered. Not that she had to strain her memory for the recollection as Victor undoubtedly had to do.
She listened intently as Victor explained about his lab, the disappointment already plain on her features at his tone. She knew that tone. Nora pursed her lips. “Oh bother,” she muttered ruefully. Straightening up in Victor’s arms for a moment, she let out a reluctant sigh. “I suppose we must be patient then. The world certainly had a wicked sense of humor.”
“But…tell me something Victor, has it really been ten years? You look hardly a day older than you did.” Nora pressed into him lightly, if a bit uncomfortably. The armor plating lacked for comfort, but she supposed that was not its purpose. Pushing against him lightly, Nora attempted to sit back up straight on the bed. The awkward position was putting a strain on her body, and she needed to readjust to a more comfortable position.
“Oh, what’s your schedule like now? Is it fairly routine and regular? Will you be working in the lab most of the day like you used to? I imagine it might be a little different now…I suppose what I’m really asking is: when will we have time together?”

When Nora comments on the world's sense of humor Victor doesn't seem to know what to say to that, but he understands what she meant by it so he simply nods. He certainly wouldn't consider it to be a matter of humor, but the way things are going for the two of them is rather singular.
When she goes on to ask about the length of time and his appearance, he says, "Ah yes - there is more to this than my appearance and tolerance of temperature. There have been many changes to the way I function biologically." He pauses to help her readjust herself, knowing that his arm can't be exactly comfortable.
His armor is designed to protect him from batarangs primarily, or anything else he might encounter that would do him harm, not the comfort of his wife - or else he would have designed it differently, of course. He uses his other arm as best he can to readjust the pillows behind her to help prop her up a bit more. Pillows are, of course, a better way to provide her comfort than the arm of his suit.
"I have not investigated this thoroughly yet, actually," he continues, "I only made certain that my condition was stable and would not threaten my life. But I have discovered many oddities about myself." He pauses, trying to decide how best to explain. "For example, I need very little rest - I sleep perhaps one night in seven. I also need very little to eat or drink. I am more difficult to injure, but I heal very slowly. And if I am aging at all, it is very slowly. So slowly that these past ten years don't seem to have had an effect," he says, hoping that she understands and isn't too bothered that he is so much different than he used to be, "But I'm glad for this - you have not aged either."
He pauses again, needing to actually think about the answer himself when it comes to his schedule. It isn't something that he usually thinks about - because, like he said, he doesn't need much rest, he doesn't need to concern himself with the time of day very much. That only becomes a factor when a particular time of day is more favorable to an interaction with the world outside his laboratory. And then again, he's sure that Nora - even if she accepts what he has become as much as he's explained already - isn't quite prepared to face the full reality of every aspect of his life yet. That will come in time, and he doesn't want to burden her with it too much while she's still in recovery. "I spend most of my time in my laboratory, and also a lot of time managing other things - I have my men to worry about, money, various contacts that help supply me. It's not quite like when I was employed by Boyle - he did the managing for me and I could focus strictly on the laboratory work. I have to take care of the management side of things myself. But because I don't need much rest, I still have plenty of time in my day," he answers.
His expression softens a bit as he adds, "I have many obligations, but I wish to spend as much time with you as I can. Perhaps mostly in the evenings - when you are able to get out of bed, we can go out and find somewhere private enough that we don't have to worry about anyone interrupting us. I don't wish for you to be cooped up in here more than you have to be, as much as I tried to find a nice place for you to be while you recover." He glances up at the room as if to indicate what he's talking about.

Victor was swift to confirm that the change in his appearance was not merely cosmetic. Before explaining it fully, however, he allowed her to readjust herself. Nora settled in against the pillows, their soft, plush forms only lacking in the respect that they were not her husband. Still, they were far more comfortable than the arm of Victor’s suit. Once she had pulled up the blanket a little, Nora’s full attention returned to her husband.
It seemed that Victor had neglected himself somewhat in her absence. He had never given much thought for himself so long as he was able to do what he needed to. It seemed that much had not changed. It came as a great relief to know that he had taken pains to discover that his condition was stable and not life-threatening. At the mention of oddities, Nora tilted her head slightly, curious.
“Oddities?”
Victor paused, his face thoughtful. Nora smiled. He still made that same expression. The frail wife reached for his hand, grasping it tentatively. As Victor began to list the aforementioned oddities, Nora listened with great interest. It seemed that his condition came with certain…well, one could almost call them benefits, now couldn’t one? Though Nora rather thought the lack of dreams that came with the loss of sleep to be something of a downside. The aging bit in particular…It was…both pleasing and worrisome?
Nora’s brow furrowed. “I am glad you’ve not aged much…You’re very much still the Victor I remember – and love – but…” Nora shifted her gaze up at him, “Now I shall grow old while you remain much the same!” She huffed clearly a bit distressed over the matter. “I’ll grow old and wrinkled and…and!” Pausing to compose herself a bit, she pointed at Victor. “I’ll trust you to work hard to fix your condition. I shall help too. When I am able.” Nodding, Nora settled down, pleased enough with herself.
On the topic of Victor’s schedule, it seemed that he had not changed much. Still cooping himself up in his laboratory with all of his research. Yet Victor had also had to learn how to manage…his…organization? She supposed one could call it that. Certainly wasn’t a business. Though, he had spare time in his day, which made her happy. She smiled warmly as he explained that he had many obligations. She nodded her understanding and glanced about the room as he indicated it.
“It’s quite lovely dear,” Nora reassured him, “And I’d love an evening outing with you when I am able.”

Though perhaps he really should know better, Victor finds his worry that perhaps his wife will decide that all of this is too much for her flaring up with every new revelation. But he can't help that, really - how many times has he been on the roller coaster of believing that he might have her again, only to be disappointed when that proved not to be the case? After all of that, now that he's on the unimaginably high point of finally seeing her alive and well on her way to a full recovery, there's a small - shrinking, but still present - part of him that naturally expects this high to be followed by the ultimate low of having Nora herself be what separates them, and this time forever.
But this time she smiles, so that worry is easily silenced from his mind, for that moment at least. When her expression then shifts into a frown, it comes right back. Though when she actually expresses her concerns, instead of being distressed by them himself, his expression becomes very tender. "Yes, you will grow old - you who would have died before even reaching thirty five could now easily live to be a hundred. That won't be difficult - you're already in your forties," he says, his voice gently teasing, because Nora is only that old chronologically now - physically she's still the age that she remembers herself being. Anyone who thinks that Victor doesn't have a sense of humor is completely wrong - he's just not often in the mood to joke around, especially when his wife isn't around, and when he is then his sense of humor is so dry that people often miss the joke.
Though his expression quickly becomes more serious, though not any less loving, as he reassures her by saying, "I will do everything within my power to make that journey with you, my beloved. And I am not concerned about it taking too long - I have ten years of experience in curing the impossible. I have already learned many things that will be helpful." Given how many paths he went down while finding a cure for his wife, surely one of them will give him a head start in curing his own condition. He's kept careful notes of everything he's researched, after all. And even if this somehow ends up leading him in a completely different direction, he's a very experienced research scientist who needs very little rest - he will be able to do the work in record time. "And of course, I would appreciate your help - as much as you wish to give," he adds. He's afraid that much of it would be over her head at this point, but even if so she'd be much more competent at helping him than his men.
When Nora says that she'd love to spend an evening out with him, he can't help himself. So he gives a slight dip of his head as he says, "Then it would be my pleasure to take you, my lady."

“Egads!” Nora exclaimed with horror. “In my forties?! Surely not! Where does the time go?” A smile tugged at her lips, betraying her inner amusement. Nora was well accustomed to her husband’s sense of humor. It was quiet and not very overt, much like the man himself. More often than not, most people did not quite get the joke. But like her husband, Nora’s sense of humor was more than a touch dry. Her friends back in her university days had often commented upon her and Victor’s relationship. One of her reasons was that he made her laugh, which her friends always found difficult to believe.
Victor was quick to address her concerns, however. Nora might have gotten cross if he had dismissed them with a joke, but Victor was not one to do that. His words set her at relative ease. She felt fairly confident in Victor’s abilities. Still, living forever must be appealing if that icy state of his could offer him that. Many people would kill for that.
“Though…you’ll live for a very long time as you are. Are you alright with giving that up, dear?” Nora asked, not wanting to selfishly take anything away from her husband.
Smiling as he accepted her help, she nodded and rubbed her chin thoughtfully. “I’ll likely need related scientific journals then…or your own notes to catch up to where you are in terms of research. It may take me a while before I can be of use though,” Nora explained. Ten years of doing the impossible…It would take Nora awhile before she could even comprehend what her husband was doing. Still, she could help with simpler tasks until she did.
When Victor dips his head like a valiant white knight, Nora can’t help but smile from ear to ear. She cleared her throat and said with great formality, “Then it is agreed.” Breaking character almost immediately, Nora grinned once more. “I cannot wait, Victor!”
Reigning in her excitement somewhat, Nora tilted her head and looked at her Victor curiously. “So now that I am awake and well, I suppose you’ll be…off to your laboratory to do some research? I don’t want to keep you if you’re busy, dear.” Snuggling into the covers, Nora reached out to hold Victor’s gloved hand. “Hm…what should I cook for dinner…Oh, but is it even time for dinner?” Nora glanced out of the window when another thought struck her. “Oh, do I even have any money for grocery shopping? Ten years and being presumed dead might throw a wrench in matters…Victor?”
Looking at her husband for some sort of guidance in this endeavor, Nora squeezed her husband’s hand, eyes bright and so very much alive, the thoughts almost visibly ricocheting off the walls of her mind.
