“Yeah, it was really supposed to be a date!” Garfield growled in an intense whisper. He pressed his thumb and index finger to his temples and rubbed them as he let out a dispassionate sigh. This was a disaster. And Summer’s reassurance that she wouldn’t scream did nothing to ease his chagrin or growing need to leave immediately. He flicked open the top of the lighter and flicked it back shut with a notable clinking sound. He did this continuously, subconsciously resisting his growing itch to burn everything around him. Not everything in sight because well. He couldn’t see.
Summer suddenly pleaded with him not to burn things, which, you know, not uncommon for people to do in his presence. Oh no, please Firefly, don’t set fire to my house! Oooooh, why did you set my baby on fire?! Things like that. There was always a reason though and Firefly kinda liked listening to that. Instead of a reason, he got reasons why he should take out his frustrations on Summer, which kinda made Lynns feel…crappy. Sure, he’d burned people before but…he didn’t know there was something that didn’t immediately make him want to incinerate her.
“Fine,” Lynns stated simply. Though if he wasn’t going to burn down the place, and he wasn’t going to get the girl – most certainly wasn’t – then he really had no reason to stay. Better things to do and places to be. He might just go take out some of his frustrations on someplace else. He rustled in his pockets for the money he’d brought along for the dinner when Summer exclaimed in pain. The table shifted toward him almost immediately, his drink tipping over and splashing on him.
The woman gasped, presumably with fear, to try to sort it out. Garfield stood up and tried to dust off the excess moisture from the borrowed suit. It was probably gonna stain. Not that he cared. Not his suit. Keeping a hand on the table, he walked around to Summer’s side of the table and tapped her lightly on the shoulder with a gloved hand. “Don’t worry about it,” he said, so that she would know that it wasn’t a waiter, “Anyway, I’m gonna go-“
A light caught his eye though something…glowing under the table? “What…is that?” he said with the distrust and suspicion clear in his tone. “What did you do?” Anger now very clear in the infamous pyromaniac’s tone.

Oh no, this wasn’t going to end well.
Because Oracle was already hacked into Summer’s phone she could already tell that she was calling the cops, whether it was by accident or on purpose, it wasn’t clear to her, but one thing Barbara was sure of was that Garfield knew she had called them. Damage control, that was the first issue, diffuse the situation. She had to somehow get Firefly’s mind off of the Summer until she could get some sort of help. What else could she do? Oracle was just a cripple in a wheelchair, miles away in a Clock Tower.
Hacking into the restaurant’s systems for what seemed like to be the third time this night, and she found all of its security. She could pull the fire alarm, set off the sprinkler systems, hack into the intercoms again, turn the lights back on, or even bring the restaurant on lockdown. The sprinkler would only take his mind off for a little while, and surely the light and intercom trick wouldn’t work for a second time. Lockdown seemed to be dangerous for every inside, they’d be trapped in there with him. No other choice. Bring on the fire alarm.
If anything, the alarm would be a pleasant noise to Gar’s ears; like a long lost love returning. Something to remind him of a burning fire. Oracle hit the button and began sending an anonymous tip to the Gotham’s finest. One to CID, another to the Force, and lastly to SWAT; it was possible Firefly might try to escape, and being the sort of criminal he is, he might end up trying to hurt a few people on the way out, including his date. If the alarm didn’t distract him long enough she’d have to come up with a few more parlor tricks.
Summer seemed like she wasn’t scared off by Firefly, like she had hoped, but that was the kind of woman she was; never scared in the face of danger. Despite that it wasn’t immediate danger, it was still danger nevertheless, and Barbara had no idea how to warn her.

She couldn’t help but blush at his revealing whisper. The young reporter almost felt bad that she had been so stern with him with her recent discovery. Still, she couldn’t feel that bad. After all, he had given her a fake name and failed to mention that part of his occupation consisted of being a criminal. Surely if he had any hopes of pursuing some kind of relationship with her he wouldn’t start with such a massive fib. “Then why did you lie to me?” She answered back, her voice still calm, but hushed as she tried to match his intensity. While this night had already managed to get far off track, it was looking as though it might get even more bizarre with the next course of events.
Her relief was quick to vanish as her phone began to dial the police. She hadn’t even noticed until the voice from the other end answered and informed her she had contacted the police department. The distressed reporter quickly began to tap the damp, sleek screen in attempt to shut the phone off. With the man standing behind her having a temper that matched her fiery red hair, she didn’t want to escalate the situation even more. “I-I didn’t mean to.” She replied quickly, still trying to turn off her phone. “I contacted the police.” The woman admitted quietly, as the woman on the end of the line continued to speak. Even if she had managed to hang up by now, they would surely send a handful of patrol cars to the traced location and insure everything was okay.
Aware of his position behind her, she didn’t bother to rise from her chair. Instead, she turned toward the direction where she assumed he might be. “Please don’t be upset! We can fix this! I didn’t realize-” She might have continued to calm him if it were not for the blaring fire alarm. The initial sound alone caused her to jump in her seat. The room was in complete chaos. Summer stood up with her heart racing. With her phone malfunctioning after being sprayed with the water that had spilled from their glasses, she shoved the illuminated device back into her clutch. It wasn’t going to be much help regardless of what happened, and she swore she could hear sirens in the distance…talk about an unusually fast response. Surely someone else in the room had taken it upon themselves to contact the authorities. This just wasn’t adding up.

“Why do you think I lied to you, Gleeson?” Garfield answered harshly. “I was afraid something like this would happen. I don’t know why I even bothered anymore…No one is ever going to accept me,” he rasped softly, more to himself than the reporter. And of course, the police had been called. Great. Just! GREAT! Time to leave. Before his temper – and this building as a consequence – exploded.
He heard her shift in the darkness, trying to bargain with him, but Lynns had heard enough. Firefly had heard enough. There was no fixing this. As to echo his thoughts, the fire alarm blared out suddenly. It was a familiar sound. Had been reassuring. Even pleasant. In the past. But not right now. Now it was just an opportunity.
The room erupted into chaos. People bumped into Lynns from behind in their panic to flee. He almost considered giving them something to panic about. But no. He didn’t quite have all the tools that he need to wreak his usual kind of havoc. He could even already hear sirens. No doubt the work of that pesky bat-meddler. Who else would it be but one of the Bat’s bat-minions?
“We’re leaving,” Lynns said, wrapping an arm around the now standing Summer’s waist, “Unless you have any objections, dear lady.”

He’d better not kidnap her, which would be the worst possible choice for him to do right now. Especially under her watch; sure there was no “Batman” around to save her, Oracle just had to do the best she could. The infrared cameras scanned up and down Lynns, just double checking to make sure he was unarmed. She did a facial recognition scan on him, hacked into the cameras outside. If he grabbed her, she only prayed the police would come in time, because then, lockdown would be her only sensible option.
The hacker leaned back and took a deep sigh, looking at several of her monitors, she leaned her head back, resting it against her hands. There wasn’t much else she could do other than to wait until there was more development in the situation, if it turned into a hostage situation that was. It seemed like there was no other option, as her eyes shifted back and forth. Barbara’s only had the restaurant’s controls on hand, ready to pull any protocol. Otherwise, there wasn’t much she could do from here.
Oh well, time to look up cat memes, while story progresses.

Her nostrils flared slightly, she wasn’t sure if he had not taken the time to think this scenario out – but regardless she considered his actions selfish. After the past few weeks of torture, this was supposed to be an escape. A nice evening where she could meet someone new, have a lovely dinner and several glasses of wine to help her get to sleep tonight. Her paranoia was consuming her. While he still claimed this was a date, part of her had her doubts. “And what if we would have hit it off then? Clearly if that wasn’t in your agenda to begin with. Either you’re incredibly selfish or there is a hidden agenda.” She scoffed, talking over the commotion, an obvious frustration in her shaky voice.
While she wouldn’t have pursued a romantic relationship with such a man, she still found it aggravating that someone else was playing her game. It was humiliating to be tricked and lied to, espcailly after such a train of failures over the past month. Was there no one in this town that had a heart?
Covering her ears at first, she slowly began to adjust to the blaring sound. The sounds of screams and breaking glass as everyone sprinted toward the exits seemed to interrupt their conversation. She still couldn’t figure it out, - surely a restaurant of this caliber didn’t function like this regularly. Even when the lights were on, the hosts and waiters seemed were unable to hide their shock and confusion. This must have been very out of the ordinary.
He stood behind her and she could feel his towering presenc and his touch around her waist. While she didn’t want to stay in this place any longer, she also wasn’t sure she wanted to take her chances with a man whose frustrations seemed to be doubling with each passing moment. Of course, being as stubborn as she was, she rose her voice so she could speak over the noise. “I’d rather take my chances stumbling around in the dark.” She insisted.

“Hidden agenda?” Garfield snapped incredulously. He had already embarrassed himself by saying it aloud once and this…this bitch had the audacity to doubt him?! Not only that but she called him selfish! “Selfish? You’re one to talk,” he growled out. Hidden agenda…really? Just really? Did she honestly think that all that cloak and dagger style spy schmoozing was really his thing? Honestly! “You’re acting like I came here with the sole intention of killing you or something! That I went to all this trouble…made an elaborate plan…to have it end up like this. Really? If I wanted you dead, I would have burned you to ashes by now. Or done something a little more related to…I dunno. My namesake?”
This woman! Garfield could hardly stomach her anymore. A little self-centered tramp. Even with his arm around her, he felt nothing but complete and total irritation. He was half inclined to snap her in half. But…she was his ticket out of here. So when she very stubbornly declined his offer, he simply refused to let go of her. “Oh, please. I insist. Just hope our exit isn’t blocked by anyone or else a lot of people are going to die,” Firefly hissed vehemently to both Summer and their uninvited guest. If they could even hear him over the din.
Beginning to tug her along, Firefly made his way to the emergency exit labeled clearly at the rear of the room. Most of the clients ran for the front. A familiar entrance, though some did dive for the back exit it being nearest to them. Firefly, for one, did not care to go out the front. It would be harder to disappear, and he didn’t particularly want anyone knowing about this escapade.

The moment he mentioned killing people and dead things it was an alarm in Barbara’s head, the idol listening to their isolated conversation through the microphones of their cell phones like a podcast was over, now was the time for action; now was the time for Oracle. She brought back the schematics of the restaurant online and the police scanner and the cameras were already tracking Garfield in mid-kidnap of Summer Gleeson. Her fingers glided across her three keyboards like they were all apart of her mind, eyes focused on her monitors, and ignoring the sweat that rolled down her brow.
Dan le Noir facility’s e-portal was really standard; chances are the CEO of the restaurant probably had their systems checked by a government standard hacker to see if they could get into their system or not. If said hacker could break through, then they’d retry to make sure people like her, people like Barbara, couldn’t hack into it. She was familiar with the process, and she was familiar with quality they had in their computers. Vanilla, too easy; Barbara brought the backdoors on lockdown, the only exit was the main entrance, where everyone was filing out. She brought down the hurricane shutters as well, in case he tried to be slick and escape through a window. Barbara’s voice synthesizer had several voices already programmed into her computer; one of them was her father’s voice. Tapping back into the police scanner, she accessed the synthesizer and replicated the commissioner’s voice for the units that began surrounding the restaurant, “Lynns is trying to escape, he’s got a hostage. Approach with caution.” The police were taken care of, the restaurant was on lockdown, and there was no escape for Firefly. She only prayed that no one would get hurt.

Perhaps if she hadn’t let her paranoid consume her, this wouldn’t have gone so terribly. Scoffing when he hurled her insult back at her, it was rare that someone spoke in such a manner to the pretty redhead. She was used to compliments and handshakes rather than being roughly dragged toward an exit against her will. She knew exactly what he was doing .By using the well-known reporter he was going to make his escape and no one would bother to touch him as long as she was in his clutches. Summer felt completely disgusted by the idea that he was going to use her to get away – and probably succeed at that. If only there was something more that she could do. The young woman wasn’t even taking the time to consider what might happen to her once he did manage to get away.
“That’s reassuring,” She growled sarcastically. Though it made a great deal of sense. She had to stop convincing herself that every person that she met was one of the Penguin’s efforts to just knock her off. After all, there were over 8 million people in the city and she was on all of their televisions. She was sure to meet new faces daily. Summer squirmed as he guided her. As the few guests and complete service staff faced toward one of the two front exits, the pair found themselves going through an opposite direction. “You can’t do that.” She ordered, halting in her struggles at his threat. “These people are scared, they’ve done nothing to you. They just want to go home, just like you and I.” She informed him. Maybe if she made those lives more relatable he might spare them.
Those who occupied the building continued to flee. While a majority of people did manage a successful escape, those who had bothered to linger and all of the Noir staff remained inside the venue when the whole building decided to come alive. The doors locked, the windows became shuttered and it seemed as though no one was going to leave the building any time soon. Her heart sank. They were trapped inside. The noise of terrified occupants grew from the front of the building. Summer was still optimistic as they attempted the emergency exit. After all, that was what such things were for – right? It wouldn’t make any sense.
Her hand curled into a tight fist as her helplessness continued. She needed to do something. If they couldn’t get out, Summer couldn’t stand to have him hurt anyone because of her. She curled her hands into tight fists. The first time she had ever punched anyone in the intent of doing harm to them had been during her capture at Iceberg. Not only had she bashed a paperweight over the head of her manager, Linsey but she had attempted to fight her off twice. Each time she had been overpowered by the woman that towered over her. She contemplated punching the man but who knew where that might get her?
By now, the noise in the entrance had multiplied. It seemed as though the entire restaurant shifted to the front of the building. It was only a matter of time before the mob headed toward the emergency exit. Desperate to keep Firefly away from the masses, she piped up once more. “I'm positive that there is another exit just through the kitchen.” She lied quickly. Though at this point, Summer was just trying to make time and help the others who had no idea what they were up against. In actuality, the kitchen was a dead end.
