When his name was called Harvey sighed under his breath. Selina had put him up to this and that meant his ass better get up there and get to it. He walked from his table, smiling lazily as he made his way over and up the two steps onto the stage. Once he got there he politely kissed Selina on the cheek and shook hands with Luthor giving him a single nod as he did.
"Alright, so, you got the horse right here, eh? So let's not everyone place all their bets at once..."
The most important thing was this.
Bullock was dressed nicely, somehow on the way from the bathroom to the stage he’d discovered a sense of style, perfectly tailored. Selina straightened his tie, which was slightly askance.
Bullock secretly wondered if this was revenge for something. He wondered what he did, but then after a moment, a list came to him. Lex Luthor appeared amused on stage. Selina looked at Bullock for a moment. “So, you made it, Detective.” Bullock looked at her and then said “Well, I had help getting here.”
Selina nods as she says “I didn’t want you to get lost.” Bullock glared at her for a moment. “And the . . “ he gestures to himself.
Selina nodded and said “That’s what’s for sale today. So let’s ask some questions of Detective Harvey Bullock, of Gotham City’s own Major Crime Unit.” Bullock looked out over the audience for a moment as they applauded, well, scattered applause. Well, someone was applauding. Was that Bivins? Did he have a camera? Bivins...
Selina smiled faintly, slinking nearby. “So, detective. . . What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?”
Bullock shrugged “Scotch, a cigar, and somethin' soft to touch.”
Selina raised an eyebrow. “Like that jacket you were wearing before? That looked soft.”
Bullock smiled and said “You know it, baby.”
Selina smiles as she asks “So what sound or noise do you love?”
Bullock responded quickly “A woman’s laughter.”
Selina raised an eyebrow and looked down at his pants for a moment “Do you hear that a lot? With something soft to touch?”
Bullock looks at her dead in the eye “I’m a hard man, I like contrasts in my life.”
Selina nods as she says “To the constant amusement of women. The bids start at $250”
Montoya smirked and bid “$250.25!” she shouted. The auction bot agreed and responded in turn. “250.25”
Summer Gleeson smiled and then put in a bid for $300.
Diana of Themyscira was laughing at this point, and put in a bid for $350..
Summer smiled again and then said “$400.”
Bullock looked at Selina for a moment, eyebrows raising as she patted him on the shoulder “Go get her, tiger.” It was hard for her to fully stifle her laughter.
“Sold, $400 to Summer Gleeson.” Summer smiled and then rubbed her hands together. Oh she had plans. Yes. . . she had plans.

Ugh, this ridiculous auction. This ridiculous DRESS. This whole ridiculous GALA.
Renée feels like she's a half-step behind all the planned proceedings tonight. There really should have been a rehearsal dinner... She hurriedly gets up from her table, slipping away from the others and taking the longest path to the stage, walking as close to the wall as she can to avoid ruffling any feathers along the way.
When she makes it there, she's just in time to slip into the group of auctionees. Her heart is still pounding when they start to step up onto the stage... Though maybe that has more to do with stage fright than it does with hurried rushing in a tight skirt.
When it's her turn, she gives Selina a curt smile, and a "Thank you, Miss Kyle," and Lex a serious actual full-on curtsey. "Mr. Luthor." God, the lights up here are horrific. Especially reflecting off that head. Lex Luthor smiled as Renee approached, it was a practiced thing presented with the ease of a gameshow host. He was getting into the groove of the whole auction thing now, and somehow the hot lights weren’t making him sweat. “Officer Renee Montoya. . . you’re looking lovely tonight.”
She curtsies in an unpracticed matter “Thank you” Don’tsayanythinaboutthehead don’tsayanythingabouthishead. “Glad to be here.”
“You’re quite the accomplished officer, over 120 arrests to your name alone.” Renee appeared a little surprised “If you say so, I didn’t know that.”
Lex Luthor smiled and then said “You’re quite an asset to the city, and frankly anyone here would be lucky to be able to spend the time with you. So . . . Renee. Let’s ask the questions. What . . . is your favorite word?”
Renee blinked for a moment then responded “... Concha. It means conch, like the shell. See... quiet laugh My father had this wonderful conch shell from the old country, and he gave it to me when I was little. I remember playing with my concha when I was little... Exploring the shape of it with my fingers... When I was in high school, learning the right way to put my mouth on a concha to play a sound... Lots of good memories. “
Lex nodded in that understanding way that sociopaths tend to. “The mix of old world and new.”
Renee doesn’t seem to reply to that, but smiles a Mona Lisa smile. Lex pursed his lips together as if trying to hold back something he was about to say “Charming. What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?” Renee stops for a moment, then says “Intelligence. Cleverness.” “And What turns you off?” He asks.
“Fear.” She responded quickly to that, with some level of certainty. There’s silence for a moment, then Lex nods and says “What sound or noise do you love?” Renee stopped for a moment, then responded again, haltingly “Sirens. ... Means somebody's getting the help they need.”
Lex fingers the microphone gently “It sounds like you picked your profession well. . . What sound or noise do you hate, then?” She’s silent for a moment “... Quiet. When families are fighting and they just all go quiet.” There’s a silence that fills the room after that. Lex Luthor nods and says “Then the people of Gotham are lucky that you’re there to protect them. . . but, out of curiosity, what profession other than your own would you like to attempt?”
She looked up after a moment, the spell broken, then thought, and then responded “I think I could be a prizefighter. Boxing. “ Lex Luthor nodded as he said “The sweet science, I was quite the boxer in my youth.”
Rene looked up surprised “Were you?” Lex Luthor shook his head “No, but I liked to think I was. . . we open the bidding at $250”
Lyle Nelson, Waste Management Union Representative, raised his hand. Everyone knew he worked for Zucco, Rene arrested him two years back, but the charges were dropped due to lack of witnesses and lack of evidence. The auction program continued to read “250, do we hear 3? 300 to the man in the back.”
A man in a zoot suit with intense eyes stared at her, he flipped a coin, then winked at Rene, no one seemed to recognize him. “I hear 500 from the man in the suit.” Nelson was bidding, staring at the man with the intense eyes. The man with the zoot suit nodded again “550. Do I hear 6?” Nelson bid again.
Bullock looked at the two of the men then shouted out “One thousand.” “One thousand, one thousand one?” The man in the suit spoke with a gravelly tone. “One thousand five.” Nelson raised his hand again, the bidding increased. Bullock stared at the two of them again in the bidding war.
“Two thousand once? Two thousand twice?” Nelson smiled as he stared at Rene, cracking his knuckles. Bullock shouted “Five thousand.” Luthor looked at Bullock for a moment, then at the two in the crowd and then said “Five thousand, settled. And everyone give Officer Montoya a round of applause.”

Bivins stood on the stage, eyes wide as the spotlight was on him suddenly, he’d come from backstage, high heels and leotard, hands planted against the back of the stage as Lex Luthor and Selina Kyle stared at him. He wasn’t sure how to explain how he’d gotten here like this. He thought he could blend in with the acrobats, follow . . . well, it didn’t matter, he was caught out. Audibly, an echoing slap of skin could be heard throughout the hall in that moment of silence.. . Harvey Bullock’s palm had a very clear signature to it that Bivins knew by heart, especially the way it connected to Bullock’s forehead. There was a resonant echo to it, like the sound of the combined exasperation of humanity condensed into a single solitary somaticized expression, face to palm, feel no more Bullock. Bivins saw Selina and Mr. Luthor, and then heard the music pick up . . . it was his moment to shine. He mouthed to himself, thanks Babs. . . His shoulders moving, to the beat, he’d show them all, this was his moment to shine, he was the star, and there was no going back, only forward. . . All the Single Ladies, All the Single Ladies, All the Single Ladies, now get your hands up. How did Bivins know the Single Ladies dance? He had a life outside of you! That’s none of your damned business! And who are you to judge what a man does in his spare time in his closed off apartment in front of a cracked full length mirror. No one, that’s who. . . and by God if he didn’t sell it. Those heels made his calves look amazing, his ass look like the loaves of Atlas, his pectorals look like . . . well, his ass looked awesome. Twerk it, Bivins. Twerk it! Lex Luthor blinked at him and said "Well!” Who the hell was this? Leo Bivins? Who let that guy in? “Leonard Bivins.”Selina somehow went through the heroic effort of not laughing, keeping a straight face through the entire experience. “Bivins. . . “Bivins smiled and said “Selina.” Selina looked at him and then gestured saying “That’s quite the . . . show.”Bivins shrugged and looked a little awkward on stage “If you liked it . . . you know, you should put a --” Selina nodded and said “Yes, I heard. . . you ready for the questions, or do you have anything else you want to show the audience.”Bivins cleared his throat and then rubbed the side of his head “No, I think I’m good. Questions.” Selina cleared her throat and then asked "What is your favorite word?”Bivins thought for a moment, and then said with the full weight of dignity he had left "Strategerie." Selina blinked for a moment, then continued “What is your least favorite word?”"Misunderestimate." He said instantly. Selina looked at him and then he nodded. There was a small chuckle from the audience. “What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?” She asks, wondering how she was chosen to be the one questioning, and not Lex. "Breasts" Again, an instant reaction. Selina looked at him, Bivins winked at her making a gun with his fingers. “Yeah, let’s try one more. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?“Bivins looked a little thoughtful about that, scratching his leg for a moment “Yeah, that’s a good one. . . how about "If you check in with Foursquare here, you can become mayor." He looks up at her, she looks at him, they share a moment, it’s amazing. “Bidding starts at 250.”“Two thousand dollars” The voice of the auctioneer is audible, and then silent. Bivins blinks for a moment. “Sold, Diana of Themyscira.” The robotic voice chimes. Bivins blinks for a moment, wait, what? “That pickup line worked?!” He looked very surprised. Diana had a Mona Lisa smile in the audience.

“Oswald Cobblepot is scion to one of the great families of Gotham City, a philanthropist, entertainment entrepreneur and patron of the arts, Mr. Cobblepot represents one of the greatest elements of Gotham City. Please, welcome Oswald Cobblepot.”
"My turn it seems." Oswald chuckled to his table as he stood, straightened his top hat and made his way up on top of the stage to meet the hosts. Offering a handshake to Luthor "Lex" before Selina earns a bow of the head and a kiss on the hand "Selina, my dear," he greets before finally turning to the audience and sweeping his hat off in an exaggerated fashion "Good evening Gotham."
Selina smiled as Oswald approached. “Oswald. . . you’re looking dapper tonight. Tell me, what is your favorite word?“
Oswald smiled at his most dashing, he lacked the natural beauties of a Wayne or a Kyle, let alone the dapper perfection of a Lex Luthor, but he made up for it in opulence. “Miss Kyle, Extravagant is my favorite word.” Selina smiled and said “And extravagant you are. Tell me, Oswald. . . what would you consider your perfect date?”
Oswald appeared amused at the question “Dinner at one of the finest restaurants in the city before catching a show at the theatre and going dancing.”
Selina nodded as she said “The classics, of course! What turns a man like you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?”
Oswald stood proudly “A challenge and an intellectual and accepting equal.”
Selina smiles “And what would you do if you couldn’t do what you did now.” Cobblepot considered for a moment then said “Ornothology, specializing in the preservation of endangered species.”
Selina nods as she says “I’ve a soft spot for jungle cats myself. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?”
Oswald looked straight into Selina’s eyes “There's much work to be done.” Selina nods and then says “The bidding starts at 250.”
Elise made an opening bid at 300. Lola stared at the stage and smiled, entering a number and then smiling. “1000. . .” Silence,
“Sold, 1000, to Ms. Lola Marks.” The robotic voice states.

She pushed in her chair and took a glance around her. Her gait is assured and feminine, drawing attention to her beauty, the looks that Piper calls exotic. As soon as she was walking, her attention was on the stage, not the crowd. She navigated the steps with a slip from walking in her stilettos and took Lex's hand. "It's a pleasure again," she said to him and hugged Selina quickly afterwards. "You did a wonderful job with this. Just tell me where to stand." And she let her be directed.
“Elise Noble. . . entrepreneur, CEO Psypher Technologies, innovator with a fantastic character.” He smiled at Elise for a while saying “I’m sorry I haven’t had the opportunity to really talk to you before, but I hope you know that I follow your work with . . . great interest.” Elise smiled as she looked at Lex for a moment “I’m glad. I’ve had a lot of opportunity to work with your stuff too.”
Lex smiled as he said “What would be your perfect date?” Elise responded “A night of dancing along with going to the best Japanese restuarant in Gotham.” Lex smiled as he said “That’s the Jiro Kuwata, if I remember.”
Elise shrugged as she said “That’s up to some debate, I like the Osama myself, but Jiro’s is thought of better.”
Lex nods as he says “What sound or noise do you love?” Elise looks again at the crowd, “The sound of movement in silk sheets.” Lex smiles as he says “That’s an invitation to start bidding if I’ve ever heard one. Bidding starts at 250." A gentleman in the audience in a suit bid 300, followed by another quick bid from Roy Harper, who winked once.
Selina Kyle then raised the bid to 25000, “25,000, Selina Kyle” Selina winked at Elise saying “Trust me, you’ll like this one.”

It had come to that time of the evening. The auction. Dick had only agreed to do it for the charity of the event. He was not a huge fan of this kind of stuff.
Kory was excited about the whole think until she found out he'd be auctioned off for a date with the highest bidder. At that he had to laugh. He knew she wouldn't want to share him with anyone else. But she knew he wouldn't let this auction sway his thoughts on being with her.
After like she said to him, it could be fun. And he had used that same line when she had found out how it would run. Of course they had a good laugh over it, and he agreed to do his part.
He just saw himself falling more into the footprints of his mentor's facade life of Bruce Wayne's public image. Though he was still more or less himself in public as he was with his friends.
Dick got up and walked over to the stage.
"Well done on the event so far, Luthor. And Selina, you've really out done yourself," Dick greeted the two as he got on stage.
“Dick Grayson, police officer, former circus acrobat, a man of many unique talents.” Selina Kyle smiled at the man-wonder.
Dick shrugged and said “Hi Selina.”
Selina smiled as she fingered her microphone thoughtfully, rolling the device between her fingers, letting the cord dangle down like it were a hanging tail, she eyed Grayson, as if she were waiting for excessive movement, prepared to bat him around a bit.
“Quite the change of profession, acrobat to police officer.”
Dick shrugged and said “I’m always walking a tightrope. You know how it goes.”
Selina smiled as she said “So tell me, Dick. What would you do if you weren’t a police officer?"
Dick responded quickly “Professional Motor-cross driver.”
Selina raised an eyebrow “No tightrope then?”
Dick smiled as he said “It’s all about balance.”
“Bids start at 100.”
The first bid came from Lola Marks, “500 dollars, Lola Marks.”
Elise Noble tried for 550.
Renee Montoya smiled as she bid in for 650, followed by another bid for 700 from Lola Marks.
Out of nowhere, a bid came up “$100,000.” Kory smiled. “Starfire!. . . sold”

It's her turn and Iris has to take a breath to steady herself before she gives Nathaniel one last smile and makes her way up to the stage. Normally she's one to get a bit more stage fright but, let's be honest, knowing that she's looking far nicer than is her usual helps her self-confidence. The desire to avoid public scrutiny for fear of making some embarrassing error is easily counter-balanced by the fact that if she does do anything embarrassing then she'll at least be remembered as the pretty lady who did something embarrassing. Though of course she'd rather avoid doing anything embarrassing at all, which is why she takes particular care in holding up her skirt as she heads up the stairs. Once she's standing where she's supposed to, she smiles at Selina and Mr. Luthor, greeting them with a simple, somewhat excited, " Hello!" Selina Kyle smiles as she says “Iris Ledford and I first met years ago, and we’ve had a very productive and friendly relationship since then. I’m honored to present her to the people of Metropolis.”Selina smiled at Iris saying “It’s my turn now, you know. To ask you the questions.”Iris said only; “It’s not quite as therapeutic a space.”Selina smiled as she said “What would you describe as your perfect date?”Iris nodded as she said “I’m an adventurer, Selina. I like to try new places. On my perfect date, we’d adventurously go out to a mom and pop restaurant neither of us has tried yet to see if they're any good - and we stuff our faces if they are (and pick up Chinese if they're not...). Then we take a long walk in the park and talk, and perhaps I'll sing if the mood strikes.”Selina moves closer. “And what turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?” She smiled at Iris, her dress luminescent, reflecting the changing subtle interplay of the lights. Iris’s response was simple “Feeling loved and accepted. I think that emotional connection is really the most important part of any relationship.”Selina nodded once “Well said. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?”Iris laughed a bit at that, then responded “Oh, don't worry - I can forgive you for being Buddhist.”Selina laughed and said “We open the bidding at 100.” The bidding was nice and straightforward, an opening bid by Jacob Adagio in the audience for 100 was followed by a bid for $500 by Nate. It was almost a forgone conclusion.

Helena, hesitantly stood up, biting her lip as she walked across the floor, weaving between the groups of tables. She hiked up the skirt slightly to reveal her ankles to avoid stepping on the hem and having a dangerously J-Law moment. She stepped up the few steps and then lowered her dress so it draped down to hide her Victorian shame. She gave a polite smile to Mr. Luther, though she was having an increasing amount of anxiety about him being here, but the fact that Selina was here as well lessened it. She’d rather have this woman in her corner than anyone else in this town.
“Helena Bertinelli, teacher and inspiration.” Lex Luthor announced the woman, as she approached. “I understand you spent a lot of your childhood in Sicily” “Yeah, I did.” “Do you miss it at all these days? Back in America?” Helena shrugged and then said “Some days I miss it. I miss the calm winds on a cool spring day in Sicily.”
“Evocative. And you enjoy your work as a teacher?” “It’s rewarding.” “If you could be anything else, what would you want to be?” Helena was quiet. “Criminal advocate.” Lex Luthor raises an eyebrow in interest “An interesting endeavor. You’re a good Catholic too, I assume. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates? “
Helena smiles as she responded “Darling, you’re not even close to being done, get back down there. And could you ease up on the confessions? Father Petra had a heart attack after your last one. “ Lex Luthor smiled as he says “Anything you want to confess to us tonight?” Helena shrugged and responded “I’m trying to cut down on them.”
A voice echoed through the chamber. 30,000 dollars. A red haired man, in a suit. Vic Sage lowered his land.
Smiling at Helena’s table, Thomas Blake, laughed and raised his hand. 35000.
Vic Sage glared at him for a moment, then raised his hand again, 45000. Thomas Blake thought for a moment, then nodded, bidding finally. 50000. Vic Sage, pursed his lips.
“Sold for 50000.”

When Lola heard her name called she politely excused herself from the table and headed to the stage. She went in through the back like she was supposed to and came out the correct direction to meet the Gala hosts on stage. When she saw Selina she gave her a blushing red smile. Lola deserved to be on stage, she lavished in the attention, but it had been some time since she had been. She greeted her and Luthor both and waited for further instruction.
Lex Luthor smiled at Lola Marks, taking her hand, kissing the back of it. “Lola Marks, of the Marks family.” his face a rictus of a mask, something he wasn’t saying, something he didn’t need to say, his thoughts about the Marks family weren’t well known, although he could say he helped make his fortune of their backs, especially following Andrew’s interactions with a younger Lionel Luthor.
“You’ve made quite the image for yourself in Gotham, since you’ve come here.”
Lola was radiant, the lights reflected beautifully off of a practiced facade. “I’m a simple girl, what you see is what you get.”
Lex nodded and said “And what we get is a woman who moves through the world with practiced confidence.”
Lola smiled as she said “I’m just girl who knows what she wants, and if you want to be able to run with me, you have to be able to keep up. If you’ve got the stamina and the class to keep up, then you’re my kind of guy.”
Lex smiled and then said “So what turns Lola Marks on, creatively, socially, emotionally?”
Lola raised an arched eyebrow “The finer things in life....Diamonds are a girls best friend you know.”
Lex nodded as he asks “So what would you see as the perfect date?”
Lola’s voice trickled out of her mouth like cool, clear water. “The perfect date would be relaxing on the deck of a yacht with champagne in hand watching the sea roll in from harbor. No need to go out to sea because then you can't send people to get more wine. We'd talk and lay about for the evening until it got late and snuggled up by the wall fireplace in the bedroom of the deck downstairs.” She winked at Oswald.
The bidding began fiercely, with Bruce Wayne starting an open bid at 5,000 and winking also at Oswald, and with others starting to increase the bid in a rapid succession. Oswald looked increasingly irritated and stood up saying “Twenty Thousand!” raising an umbrella to the air.
A pause. . . “Twenty thousand dollars.” read the auctioneer. Lex Luthor smiled and said “And there you have it.” He nodded to Lola and Oswald “Congratulations.”

Nathaniel walked up to the stage with a confident hitch in his steps once he'd left the table. Is he nervous? Quite a bit, but that makes him all the more giddy as he skips a few steps to land on the stage. "Mr. Luthor," he nods to Lex and then, "Ms. Kyle," he smiles at Selina before taking his place and facing the crowd.
“Nathaniel Arkham, following in your father’s footsteps.” Selina Kyle smiled at the young man.
“It’s a noble profession” he responded.
“Do you enjoy the work?” She asked.
“There’s really nothing like it in the world.”
“How would you describe your perfect date?" She queried.
“An outdoor dinner in a gazebo accented by fairy lights, followed by a stroll on the Gotham coast.”
Selina smiled and said “Lovely, you like nature?”
Nathaniel nodded “It’s something that I feel really gets me going, one of my great loves, other than Iris.”
Selina nodded as she said “You seem very fond of her.”
Nathaniel smiled “I like to listen to her hum when she doesn’t know I’m listening.”
Selina nods as she said “Well then, do you think she’ll bid for you?”
Nathaniel looked out and said “We’ll just have to see.”
Selina nodded and said “The bids open at 100.”
The announcer spoke almost instantly “500 from Iris Ledford.” She glanced up at the stage.
“Sold, Iris Ledford.” Now if that wasn't love, and dedication, she didn't know what was.

There goes the hope that she'd imagined this part of the evening. She can't even remember how she got roped into this, it definitely wasn't in her job description. A deep breath and she appeared calmly confident on the outside at least as she stood and nodded with a polite "Excuse me" to her table and left for the stage, trying to ignore the amount of people she had to pass to get there.
If she was about to stand up in front of a crowd and give a lecture on her profession it would be fine, she could prepare for that. She wasn't even sure how you could prepare for this sort of thing. Walking up the stairs onto the stage she decided to consider what was the worst thing that could happen. The immediate winner was the leering old man at table nine. She really didn't want to try and find worse than that and she'd already made it up in front of everyone. So many staring faces. She moved to shake hands with both hosts "Mr Luthor, Ms Kyle."
Lex Luthor put his hands together as he watched the woman approach the stage. “Joan Leland, you’ve worked at Arkham for quite some time, one of the people who’s work we’re all very happy to support.”
Joan nodded once, standing in front of the crowd, all eyes on her. “Thank you.”
“So Joan. . . It’s time to turn the tables around, and for you to open up to the audience here.” He smiles as if it’s some sort of joke. “What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?”
Joan responded “In general, a problem to solve.”
Lex nods as he says “The challenge of it?”
Joan shrugged as she said “I just don’t like secrets.”
“Your work is well suited to that sort of drive. . . but let’s say you weren’t in the psychiatric field. What sort of work would you like?”
“Mechanic.”
Luthor raises his eyebrows in apparent surprise. “You’ve got quite the range of interests.”
Joan smiles faintly “I like the sound of engines, motorcycles in particular.”
Luthor nodded, then asked a final question “If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?”
Joan thought for a moment, and then responded “Everyone's fine now, time for a nice long rest.”
Luthor nodded and says “The bidding starts at 100.”
Roy Harper smiled as he bid “300.”
The auctioneer spoke out a few seconds later. “Sold, 300.”

Lex Luthor smiled, it was all in good fun at this point “And this, Ladies and gentlemen brings us to the last part of the evening, she’s been called the Princess of Gotham, by those of less Republican bent. Last year she was listed as one of Gotham Magazine’s fifteen most eligible bachelorettes . . . Selina Kyle."
He moved closer to her and smiled into the audience. Eye contact was made for a moment with Bruce Wayne, as Lex got slightly too close to her. He was milking this for every moment it was worth.
“So how do you think the night is going so far?”
“Fantastic so far, Lex, I have to say that there hasn’t been anything like it in Gotham so far, and I wonder if anything like it will ever happen again.” And so went their song and dance.
“What can I say? When two powerful forces partner together. . . anything can happen.” He smiled and said “So, to finish off the evening . . . Describe YOUR perfect date…”
Selina smiles radiantly, the light reflecting off her dress just perfectly, it appears to almost change color under the lights. “Somewhere that doesn't require heels and paparazzi.”
Lex smiled as he says, “You might have picked the wrong sort of lifestyle for that.”
Selina raised an eyebrow and responded. “Can’t a woman want it all, Lex? After all, my least favorite word is ‘No.'”
Lex raised an eyebrow.“And your favorite.” Selina winked and said “Meow,” in a near perfect purr.
Lex laughed at that. “So what turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?”
Selina had that coy look on her face that she tends to show when she’s got her masks on just right. This is part of the act, and she wields the feminine mystique like a sword. “Engaging, intellectual conversation and laughter. With a bit of chocolate and a good bottle of wine.” She adds the last bit, almost as an afterthought.
“And what turns you off?”
Selina stares into the audience for a moment, staring straight into the audience again “Men trying to own me.”
“And on that note, let’s start the auction. The bidding starts at two hundred and fifty.”
A hand is raised the voice declares “Two thousand, Piper Hill.” Piper winks and waves a bit at Selina.
Oswald Cobblepot smirked and tipped his umbrella. “Two thousand five, Cobblepot.”
Bullock looks up and raises his hand “Three thousand.”
Cobblepot raises a hand again “Five thousand, Cobblepot.” Piper smiles and lowers her hand, shrugging apologetically.
Bullock raises his hand, “Five thousand one hundred.”
Cobblepot stares at Bullock “Six thousand.”
Diana, Princess of Themyscira laughs at a private joke, nodding. “Seven thousand, Diana of Themyscira,” the mechanical voice rings out.
Cobblepot bid again, “10 thousand dollars.” Bullock sighed and turned away from the stage, he was out.
It was at this point that Bruce Wayne put in his bid, his voice echoed through the room “One million dollars.” Cobblepot stared at Wayne for a moment, they made eye contact, Wayne narrowed his eyes.
“Two million.” The voice rings from the stage. There was a surprise as Wayne turned around. Lex Luthor was smiling for a moment.
“Once. . . Twice. . . The auction is completed.” Lex Luthor smiled at the crowd and said “That concludes the auction portion of our evening." Selina plasters a smile on her face, wondering what the hell just happened.

Selina allows the crowd to settle for a moment before she speaks again. "I'd like to also acknowledge a rather generous benefactor, Mizz Rooster Stone, for her donation tonight. In leiu of her 100 Million dollar donation, each male participant of the evening will be donating an evening's time at her nightclub. Thank you, Mr. Wayne, Mr. Luthor, Mr. Grayson, Mr. Hill, Doctors Arkham, Mr. Gordon, Mr. Bullock, Mr. Cobblepot, and Mr. Harper. I do not doubt you will be in fantastic hands with Rooster."
There is a gimlet gleam in her eye as she brings her hands together for applause, the twittering of the audience starting as low music starts in the background. Now that the official parts are done with, it seems the fun is just around the corner. And the alcohol. The music. And the relief of being allowed to indulge in a bit more fun this evening, even as hostess.
[There will be follow up threads for those auctioned and their winners. There will also be a venue of Ms. Stone's choosing for her rather generous donation to the Metroham project.]
[Post as you wish, folks! Reactions, delight, horror, all of it!]
