When the brand comes into view, Nina's immediate reaction is a sharp exhale. It does disturb her, but it's a combination of empathy for Summer and being appalled that anyone would have done such a thing to someone else. Still, if only because she knows that she can fix it, she recovers from both feelings quickly and instead concentrates on what she's here for. Realizing that she's gone silent for a bit longer than she intended, she breaks it to smile and simply says, "Hmm, I like challenges. Nothing I can't fix, but it's possible that it will take quite awhile. I won't know until I try, though." And with that, she finally lets her agreement to fix this be official - now that she's seen the brand, she can't just leave it there. Especially since she knows how brutal even modern medicine's solutions to this sort of problem are.
"You can cover it again if you'd like - I don't need to see it with my eyes anymore," she says, knowing that probably sounds a bit odd, but it's the truth anyways. "I'm going to start working on it now - first your leg will begin to feel numb, but only in that spot. You can change positions, get up and move, even, and that won't interrupt me as long as you stay within view," she adds, "Whatever makes you the most comfortable." And she's hoping that giving the young woman that much more freedom will help calm her further.
Having said that, she begins to work, starting by numbing the skin in the area immediately around the brand. It's an easy but tedious process - so many little nerves to inactivate... But answering Summer's question proves to help distract her from just how boring it is. "Actually I don't," she replies honestly, "As you've noticed, I try to keep my abilities under wraps and it would be tricky to find others without revealing my own. I've only ever met a few personally who I knew were metahuman, but there's probably plenty more I don't know. None of them had a mask, unless they didn't tell me. I only know that when I first discovered what I'm capable of, my first thought wasn't a costume." In fact she finds it odd that so many have, but that opinion may be biased merely by the fact that she didn't herself.

Despite the efforts she was going to in order to seize the empty glass in her trembling hand, she knew it was only a matter of time before she regrettably dropped it onto Selina’s gorgeous silk sheets. Doing everything to control her shaking limbs, she was more than grateful when her dear friend stepped in, her delicate hands taking the glass to relieve the nervous redhead of the trouble. “Thank you.” The painful silence was enough to bring the redhead to tears. “It’s horrible, isn’t it? The prick couldn’t even spell his name right.” Summer choked as she did everything in her power to hold back tears. However, the blindfold was soaked in no time and she was relieved that she had invested in waterproof mascara so that it wouldn’t stain Selina’s scarf. Her silent sobs resulted in her shaking even more, but she still attempted to hold it in. Ever since the brands arrival, her goal had been to hide it and smoother it’s existence, though it had always mananged to haunt her. Though she often resisted tears and attempted to pretend everything was alright, it clearly wasn’t. She seized Selina’s hand with both of hers as if to issue a silent ‘thank you’ once more. After all, she didn’t have to do this, yet she was going to the efforts to insure Summer’s sanity. The moment that she gets to cover the brand, Summer quickly did so simply because of the embarrassment of it all. While she was not particularly expecting such a sentence, she was more than relieved to oblige. “Okay-“ She said as the tears began to subside. After this she wasn’t going to have to worry about it ever again, but she had to keep herself composed until that point. The redhead realized slightly, rather than the seated position that she had insisted on. Despite the woman’s warning, Summer couldn’t help but jump at the sensation that appeared instantly in her upper thigh, a numbing feeling that was almost freeing from the start. “Sorry!” She hurried, blushing slightly that she had jumped. The blindfold served as an element of surprise, and while she had been warned it was still a bit of a shock to her that the sensation took effect so quickly. Summer decided to pursue with her questions, which seemed to spare her from more tears. "What were some of the abilities that the others you have met possessed? I think that is amazing. But- I agree with you. I can’t say my first thought would be to run around in spandex when everyone else is asleep. But I am sure it would make a great story.”outfit: summer is just wearing this now ohhhlalaaa!

Selina sits in rapt attention, considering she wasn't aware of how Nina was going to go about this, either. So when she states she doesn't need to see the brand anymore, her green eyes go wide. As Summer starts to tremble she's quick to pull the throw off the end of her bed and drape it around her friend's shoulders. While she might not be physically chilled, it's a comfort to have the soft blanket around nonetheless.
It's only when the tears start does she honestly feel bad. And Jack not spelling his name right? Not a shock, but if he did misspell it, it's more than likely a stylistic choice than an error. Once she sees the damp spots on the blindfold, Selina reaches out gently to take the younger woman into a soft embrace. Not forcing her to accept the hug, or the shoulder, but offering it as comfort. Summer hadn't seen a lot of the harsher side of life, and that was one of the reasons Selina adored her. She had such a fresh perspective on the world, and was untouched by most of the darker lives of masks. So when she started seeking out the flame, and was finally burned, Selina felt bad, despite being aware it was not her fault, but also had to shake her head, because what do you expect when playing with the flame?
"When you have a skill such as this, there are so many other areas that it could help for the good, I'd think, instead of running around in spandex. It's more a defensive gift, than offensive. Healing is so much better than harming, at least in my opinion." And even her own night-to-night duties were get in, get out, get gone, with minimal interactions. The fewer paths she crossed, the better, more productive night for her.

Not really used to being in the position to comfort someone, Nina isn't really sure what to do when Summer starts to cry. Or at least, not anything that Selina isn't already doing, though she decides to give some words a try as well. "It's okay, it will be alright," she says, attempting to make her voice as soothing as possible, "I'm here to get rid of it, remember. It will only be a memory soon."
A memory that she does hope that the young woman won't forget any time soon, actually. She'd rather hope that Summer learns from the experience, just as she herself has learned from the many scars she still bears - scars that she keeps in place in spite of her ability to heal them so that they serve her as a constant reminder. Well, that and it would take a very long time to get all of them and she doesn't really care about them that much.
Nina can't help the amused grin that comes to her face when Summer jumps as she starts working, and that's reflected in the tone of her voice as she replies, "No worries." The abrupt movement doesn't bother her at all - like she said, Summer can move and that includes being startled even though Nina wouldn't think that the gradual numbing of a patch of skin is anything to get startled about. Then again, even though a good local anesthetic would have a similar effect, it's not exactly a normal feeling either.
As she works, she sits in the chair with a somewhat distant expression, as if she's simply sitting there pondering to herself - with probably not the most intelligent expression on her face, but only Selina can see it so that doesn't matter. Her gift simply requires a lot of concentration to use - which is unlike some of the others she's met. "I once met a man who could reshape matter - turn one thing into another as long as it was the same size and made of the same material. Like he could turn a metal ring into a metal paper clip or a rubber ball into a rubber ducky. Another could give people nightmares," she replies, naming off a couple. From what she's gathered, there's a truly astonishing number of variants of metahuman powers.
"But yes, healing is much better than harming in my opinion, even if you're harming to protect someone or in the name of justice," she agrees easily, "But healing is also more difficult - it's much easier to break something than to fix it with my gift, just like most things." Once she's finished numbing the area, at least to Summer's perception it would seem as if nothing is happening since the whole point of numbing it was to make it so that Summer wouldn't feel the rest of it.

Summer tugged on the blanket as she sniffled, pulling it closely around her. “T-thank you.” She mananged through the tears. The last thing that she wanted to do was cry, but the tears were unavoidable after being stored up for all of those months. Despite her resistance to show weakness, now she couldn’t even attempt to push them away. The blindfold was now damp after catching the large crocodile tears that fell from her eyes. “I’m sorry about your scarf, Selina. I can get it cleaned for you afterwards.” She mananged finally, taking a deep shaking breath a she finally managed to rid herself of the distress. It was almost comforting to let it all out. The mysterious woman’s words seemed to reach her, though it was still hard to think that something like this had happened to her. Her short years in Gotham had consisted of nothing but success – until now. Was this a sign? Would the ambitious reporter have similar run-in’s later? Would the Joker come back for her? All the questions swirled around in her troubled mind but she knew this was not the time and place to ask them. “Just a memory.” She repeated as if to sooth herself. Listening to the woman as she continued to heal her was a worthy distraction and the redhead’s curiosity multiplied. How many of these individuals actually existed in the city of Gotham – let alone the rest of the world. The redhead almost envied them in a way. Growing up she had never even fathomed having ability, but the longer she remained in Gotham the more realistic it seemed to be. She nodded when she registered her dear friend’s familiar voice, providing her input. While Summer did have a similar opinion, she much rather wanted to give the opportunity to speak to the unknown healer – fully aware that after this encounter there was a fair chance she would never see her again. “I can only imagine.” She said quietly as the woman mentioned the difficulty of healing. How would she ever repay this woman? How would she ever repay Selina for bringing her? The debt seemed to be growing with each passing moment. “What do you think is the most difficult part about being a metahuman?” Summer asked curiously for a distraction if anything. outfit: summer is just wearing this now ohhhlalaaa!

"You're fine, hon." Selina continues, her fingers playing along Summer's neck to soothe her during the whole endeavor. As she listened to Nina, she has to nod slightly as she watches her friend sit in the chair, and tend to the brand. It is a bit peculiar, to just sit and watch, but she is keenly aware of the breadth and depth of Nina's skill, so she has few questions. Not relinquishing her hold on her other friend, Selina is mostly silent, there to put both women at ease. Her mind touches slightly on Shawty and hopes there is something in the kitchen to her liking. It's the least she can do for the time being. Perhaps later they can grab a drink.
As she studies Nina, she listens to Summer and notes the woman has many good questions. And she hates to think on how uninformed she herself is about meta-humans. She is aware of several gifted individuals, but none that are quite as skilled as Nina is.

The question that Summer asks now causes Nina some pause. Not because she has to think about the answer, because it's a reality about her gift that is very often on her mind, but deciding how to explain it is a bit hard and slowed by the fact that much of her concentration is elsewhere. But she finally says, "It's the inherit responsibility that comes with it."
Figuring that Summer will want to know what she means by that, she's quick to elaborate. "Removing a scar like yours is the least of what I can do with my ability. Trivial, even. The best of what I can do is nothing short of miraculous - godlike. But it still takes time, and there's only one of me, so I have to make many choices about the best use of it. I have to ask myself - is this the best use of my gift? Or should I be restoring the mind of some scientist whose brilliance may help humanity if it weren't for the dementia brought on by old age? Or is a young child dying of leukemia more deserving? Perhaps a pregnant woman? That would be a two-for-one deal, after all..." she pauses thoughtfully, hoping that the other two women can see just how hard those questions are.
"So that's the hard part: Having godlike power without godlike wisdom to help answer these kinds of questions," she concludes, "Though the fact that I'm here right now should give you somewhat a hint of how I've answered them." After all, in spite of the questions that she's mentioned she's still ended up being right here right now instead of doing the things that she mentioned, or anything else under the sun for that matter.

Selina’s touch caused goosebumps to race across her skin; much of which that was exposed in the silk robe, but it was comforting none the less. While she had convinced herself she could live alone and she didn’t need to be consoled by a partner of sorts, the effects were starting pull her down a bit. Perhaps it was time she did look for someone new. It had been months since she had a relationship or even strived for anything more than a one-night stand or a casual date – cutting people off the moment her schedule got hectic and her career called. It was still nice to be touched, good to feel important enough and even better to be helped. When the woman mentions that heeling her brand is minor in comparison, Summer couldn’t help but ask. The question flew from her mouth before she could even think about what she was saying and the redhead was entirely fascinated. “Can you bring someone back from the dead?” Summer couldn’t imagine having so much responsibility rest on her shoulders. While she would be longing to help, she would also be overwhelmed with the ability in itself. It was not something to take lightly at all, nor was it as glamorous as it originally seemed to be. It was hard to keep her hands at her sides, her fingers itching to rip the blindfold from her face. However, she knew she couldn’t betray the woman that was going out of the way to help her with such high stakes. “Yes, it does. I just wish there is some way I can repay you without knowing who you are. This is just- you are amazing” outfit: summer is just wearing this now ohhhlalaaa!

A tiny shiver courses down Selina's spine as Nina speaks. At times she is grateful for the gifts and skills she has, and the responsibility that goes with them. To each their own. Her mind wanders slightly as she sits beside Summer, as to the immense responsibility of Nina's gift. And just as quickly she comes to the conclusion she is glad that it was sifted to Nina, and not herself. It isn't that she feels unable to handle such a responsibility, just that it would have changed her so much that it may have made her different than who she is now.
A sight nod is given to her friend, and another reassuring squeeze to Summer. As soon as the reporter's questions come flying again, she can't help but smile as the rather terse atmosphere is shattered in a moment. Summer is regaining her composure if the questions are coming this quickly once more. While a faint smile plays on her lips, she shrugs ever so slightly as to say she has no idea. And her silence in this instance is just-this is not her moment, but her time to be supportive for both her friends, as a delicate balance is in play.
Even as Summer wishes to repay the gesture, Selina is at the ready if Summer does start to go for the blindfold. She's rather glad those manicured fingers haven't gone there, because a lot would be ruined; friendships, trust, and lives would be at stake.

"Ah, biological death is one of the few things I can't fix," she answers, her voice becoming a little quiet - as intimidating as it is to hold so much power, at the same time her limitations are not desirable to her at all, "Too many changes happen to a body too quickly to reverse if there's no oxygen or the heart stops beating for too long. Some types of brain death I can cure, though one of the other things that I can't fix are some of the effects of brain damage. I can repair all the damage to a brain, but I can't 'rewire' it to be exactly as it was - the cells are there but the original configuration of them is lost." And in the brain the exact configuration matters a lot, unlike pretty much any other part of the body.
This isn't the first time that someone has offered to repay her for her help, but that actually causes Nina at least a little discomfort. Hesitating for a moment, she says, "No, I disagree - I'm not amazing. My gift is amazing, but it's not my fault that I have it. Random chance gave it to me without considering whether or not I deserve it. I'm sure that without it I would be very boring." And nowhere near as successful in her work for that matter.
But there must be some way for the young reporter to thank her, even if it's indirect, and it doesn't take Nina much pondering to know what it is. "All I ask is that you remember this conversation. You're a reporter - your opinion helps shape the opinion of many others. Remember that you met a metahuman who doesn't really know you and yet was willing to take a risk and help you with her abilities. Allow that to influence how you view and report on people with such abilities and I'll consider myself repaid - there are far too many who respond to people like me with fear instead of reason. Who assume that all are bad because one was bad when the truth is that these abilities are held by people of all kinds. If it weren't for that I wouldn't feel so much need to hide myself from you or anyone else," she explains.
