Harvey smirked and took the glasses off when he put his hand forward to Rowdy.
"Elvis Presley, King of Rock N Roll."
Harvey couldn't help but move his hips a bit more. He wasn't that bad a dancer, he was excellent because he didn't give a shit about what anybody thought when he did it.
"Man, this place can get nice and loud and movin' can't it?"
A woman walked by, dragging her finger along his chest. He turned, his eyes following her for a moment before he turned back to the other two.
"Mmm, long live the king, eh?"

Watching Harvey’s antics, Rowdy seemed mildly amused. All he could do was keep looking back and forth from Selina to Harvey.
“Really? Seriously? You’re Elvis? Then call me Batman.”
Sighing, Rowdy decided to leave good enough alone. The more he said, the worse things would get. He didn’t want to cause a scene with either one of them. Not here. Not now. Not ever.
“I’ll be in my office when you finish your inspection,” he told Selina curtly. “It’s upstairs on the second floor, down the hallway, first door on the right. Make sure you bring ‘Pelvis’ with you.”
Turning to leave, Rowdy made a mental note to call his doctor at S.T.A.R. Labs in the morning. He had no clue why he was acting this way -- why his emotions were all out of whack. Where had his unhealthy obsession with Selina Kyle come from? This was a far cry from what he had expected the evening to be like.
As he ascended the stairs, Rowdy shook his head. There was something definitely wrong with him.

Her eyes flicked between the two. Honestly she'd have thought Theo would do something else. Like, legitimately introduce himself. And Rowdy was, off. Peculiarly so. Had her near-panic reaction at him pulling her on stage gotten him in that much of a tizzy? Shit. "Will do." As he left, she poked 'Pelvis' in the chest, and then did the universal, 'I'm watching you, you watch me' thing with her fingers. He'd need to keep an eye on her when she went about the club. Not that he'd had a problem doing that prior, but just to hammer it home. She needed to have a bit of anonymity for this, as she would circle about different areas, poking her head here and there. At least a mask could give her that, right?
It was about ninety minutes later when she shook her head, and took a seat at the bar. It was near time for the 'fun' aspect of this to start. She couldn't look into a few areas of his club, because, well, she hadn't known it would be so damn open. She'd need a bit of free time, and her climbing gear. And preferably not an audience. She sighed. Damn Alec for not being available.

Upstairs on the second floor, Rowdy sat at his desk in his office, working on payroll. He was trying to take his mind off of . . . everything. Although he was concentrating on the ledger on his computer screen, he kept thinking about his words -- those cruel words that had escaped his lips and pummeled Selina Kyle. He’d wanted to take them back the moment he said them. She didn’t deserve that. No one did.
Rowdy kept imagining how awkward things would be for them later when they met. Would she still want his business? After all that had transpired, would they be able to have a professional relationship? He sure hoped so. It was better than nothing.
Rowdy cringed when he thought about the dialogue they’d share. He had lost face. He knew he would most likely fumble his words and look like an even bigger fool in front of her. He knew himself. When the moment came, speaking wouldn’t be his forte.
So he decided to do the next best thing. With a heavy sigh, he grabbed a yellow sticky note and wrote the following:
Selina,
Here’s a CD of my band. We had a recording session this afternoon, and it went pretty well. I wanted you to have this so you’d be familiar with our sound. Hey, you might even find us some leads to a few gigs. You never know. What you do with this is totally up to you.
If you decide to ever play it, I hope you like the songs. Maybe Elvis will, too. You might want to skip track #5 for a while. That’s “You Had Me at Hello”, the song I sang tonight. I don’t want to stir up any bad memories or force a relationship on you. That’s not my way.
I apologize for my actions tonight. I was wrong. I don't know what else to say. I swear to you, I'll try to never let it happen again.
Good-bye, Selina.
~ Rowdy
Taking the sticky note, Rowdy attached it to the inside left-hand side of the CD case, on back of the cover jacket, so Selina wouldn’t see it until she opened it. Then he closed the case and set it on the corner of his desk and returned to his bookkeeping task. Looking at the clock every once in a while, he wondered when Selina and Elvis would grace him with their presence at his open office door.

After a few minutes of sitting, she made her way through the crowds, and the music to where his office was. There were stairs, but they weren't too bad in her heels. After a quick knock at the door, she slipped inside, and sat before his desk. He sure as shit didn't look happy, and she could understand why. They'd had a bit of a misunderstanding, but she hoped they could both talk through it.
So with a smile on her face, she started. "I have good news, and bad news." One really wasn't that bad if you thought about it, but she still wanted to be nothing but honest with him. "Which would you prefer to hear first?" Her tone was chipper, and she was quite at ease. Crossing her legs at the knee, she draped an arm across the back of the chair. The sooner they got this done, the faster she could get to the rest of her night.

Rowdy was shocked to see Selina walk through the door. Alone. It seemed to have taken forever, but the moment of truth had finally arrived.
“Has Elvis left the building?” he asked with a smirk. There was a hint of playful sarcasm in his weak and tired voice.
Damn, Selina had balls showing up alone. Rowdy was awe struck.
As she entered and took a seat on the other side of the desk, the smile on Selina’s face made Rowdy think of a game of Cat-and-Mouse. He definitely thought she was the cat in this situation. She knew something he didn’t, and she had the advantage -- the upper hand -- because he refused to use his empathy or telepathy on her to find out what it was.
No. Never again.
Rowdy tensed when Selina told him about having good news and bad news. Bad news? Really? Seriously? Could it get any worse for him? He was already at rock-bottom, wasn't he? Even now, he could sense the ground weakening and starting to give way, as if he'd fall through the cracks of his broken heart at any second. How deep was his private hell going to get? The thought made him shudder.
“Bad news first, I guess,” he managed to say. His throat was tight with fear, and it was difficult for him to get the words out.

Selina shrugged at the mention of Elvis. Knowing him and how serious he took his jobs, he was probably lingering somewhere. When he took a job, he finished it. So when Rowdy finally caught on, she smiled, shifting a few strands of hair over her shoulder.
"Bad news first. Gotcha. I have to come back when there are less people. I got about 85% of my stuff done. I need to bring back a few of my things to get into where I need to." She paused, to let that sink in for him. "Good news, is that all the work is done. So if you're ready to show me what sort of fun a girl can have at Rowdy's, I'd love to see it."
And in truth, she was ready. Work was work, and play was play, and in this case, never the two would meet. She had gotten dressed up, even, for this, so she was going to make the best of it. If he didn't want to play host, she would understand after their little production debacle.

Rowdy was flabbergasted.
“I-Is that it? T-That’s the bad news?” he stammered, blinking his eyes a few times in disbelief. He was literally in shock. He had planned for the worst and expected the worst. And although the impact of Selina’s words hit him like soft, harmless feathers, he still sank back into his chair and emotionally collapsed. He was so relieved that he closed his eyes to prevent Selina from seeing him cry. “T-That really isn’t such b-bad news, after all,” he continued, talking with his eyes shut as tears trailed down his cheeks. “I c-can get you a key, no p-problem.”
His voice cracked a few times at the end. When he felt his heartbeat slowing down to normal, he opened his eyes again and wiped them with the palms of his hands.
“I’m sorry; I didn’t mean to be rude,” he apologized. “My eyes are just tired, that’s all. Like the rest of me.”
He looked at her, his bottom lip quivering. She was so beautiful . . . on the inside and the outside.
When Selina told him the good news, Rowdy’s mouth literally gaped open. He couldn’t believe she was giving him a second chance. Was he going to take it?
“HELL, YEAH!” he screamed with an enthusiastic shout, leaping out of his seat and over the desk. He knew his actions probably scared Selina to death, but he didn’t care. Yes, he was THAT happy. Just hearing her voice say those words was so liberating. It was as if a heavy weight had been lifted off his shoulders. He felt like dancing. Hell, he felt like flying!
“Let’s do it!” he exclaimed, feeling like his old self again. He grabbed her hand and was almost out the door when he stopped dead in his tracks. “Wait. I need to give you something,” he told her, releasing her hand and returning to the desk to retrieve the CD. As he turned to face her, he made sure she witnessed him opening the case to check the CD so she wouldn’t do it.
“I want you to have this,” he said, handing it to her. He couldn’t stop smiling. “I made it for you. Everything inside the case is from me. Everything. Promise me you'll open it when you get home, okay?”
Rowdy stood there beaming.

Glancing her her nails, she looked back up to him. "That's it. Good news, bad news." His reaction was a bit off, but she was starting to realize that Rowdy Yates was a bit more in touch with his emotions than the men she acquainted herself with.
And considering with his show of emotion, she didn't roll her eyes, or bring much attention to it. "I can understand that. My eyes get dry when I have a day that stretches into the night, too. If it's too much, I could just come back in a day or two, make an appointment?" She said softly, sitting back sharply as he bounded upright. He certainly was in touch with his sensitive, having quite a close bond with his emotions.
As he grabbed her hand, she hoped things were going to be ok. She really, really did. As the jewel case was thrust in her hands, she was curious as to where was thinking she'd hold it. She was in skin-tight everything, no pockets to speak of. She'd just have to find her bodyguard and drop it with him until they left for the night. Or morning. Whichever. Taking it she nodded, watching him carefully as he gave her the directions. "I'll open it, and pop it in as soon as I get home. Too bad it's not on vinyl, y'know?" She flashed him a coy smile, a wink given to him as well as she motioned to the door with her head. "Can I get a bit of fun time in, see what your club has to offer before I have to disappear with the daylight, Mr. Yates?" It seemed that the night could be salvaged. Everyone came across a hiccup or two in communicating now and then.

Rowdy’s eyebrows arched when Selina mentioned vinyl with a coy smile, a wink, and a nod to the door. Was she hinting that she was into records? The statement made him wonder what styles of music she liked and what records were in her personal library. He’d have to remember that tidbit of information for a future conversation.
Suddenly, he smiled to himself at the thought that they WOULD share more conversations in the days and weeks ahead. He was optimistic about their friendship, too. He had to stop being a jerk though. He knew he needed to cool his jets, backtrack to square one where he had left Selina in the dust, and just be himself. They needed to walk together and let things progress naturally.
No smothering. No forcing anything. No macho-man attitude. No flirtatious one-liners.
He was learning the hard way that those kinds of things turned women’s heads – the OTHER way.
And so what if he was a sensitive guy? Selina didn’t seem to have a problem with it. Rowdy might not have been the man Hawkgirl wanted him to be, but he was the man HE wanted to be, and that’s who he wanted Selina to like.
Taking Selina's hand once again, Rowdy didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. He felt like he’d let something very precious go, and it had returned to him on its own -- not because it HAD to, but because it WANTED to. It was a great feeling.
And Selina’s friendship was very precious to him. You see, Rowdy was the kind of person who fell in love with people easily. Spending time with Selina – although it had only been a short while – had endeared her to him. It was nothing she did on her part. Heck, she was just being herself, and that’s what had attracted Rowdy to her in the first place. She was real. Selina’s great first impression had inspired him to write a song. Yep, she’d touched his heart already without even trying. God only knew how he’d feel if she really put forth some effort to be his friend!
“You want to have some fun and see what this club has to offer, huh?” Rowdy asked her playfully. “Okay! Let's do it You’re definitely with the right guy, ma'am!”
As they walked, he laughed and fixed his cowl over his face. “I hope this costume isn’t giving you any ideas, Selina,” he mused. “I don’t know Batman personally, but I’m pretty sure he’s just a regular guy like me, who would enjoy your company as well. Whoever he is, if you ever start dating him, just remember that it’s the man behind the cowl that matters most, not the costume.”
Rowdy was referring to himself and wondered if Selina had picked up on that. Walking over to Jimbo, he handed Selina’s CD to him. “Find Elvis and give this to him,” he instructed. “Selina would do it herself, but she’s kinda busy at the moment. And get Selina a key. She’s one of us now.”
Jimbo flashed a smile and nodded. He was happy to see Rowdy was in better spirits. Selina was good for Rowdy. There was no doubt about that.
When the couple reached the dance floor, Rowdy took Selina’s hand and twirled her several times while he signaled with his other hand for the band to play something lively and upbeat -- something positive, cheerful, happy, and hopeful -- exactly how he was feeling at the moment.
As the drummer beat the skins and the music exploded and kicked into high gear, Rowdy screamed enthusiastically, and the band members screamed back. The crowd surrounding Rowdy and Selina laughed, and the room began to fill with excited synergy. By the way Rowdy was dancing, it was obvious to everyone that he had caught his second wind. His moves were smooth and tight, and the gyration of his hips was sexy, not vulgar.
“C’mon, Selina!” he told her, losing himself in the music. “I’ve shown you mine. Now you show me yours. Bring it!”
With another howl, he spun in a complete circle, laughed, and then got back into the groove without missing a single beat.

She did share a love of vinyl. Thanks to one person in particular. She'd never really owned many albums, but she had invested in a DUAL, and had 'borrowed' several over the years. And repaid her theft handsomely. But when she was lazy, a ten minute walk was nothing compared to a larger scale collection.
"Lead us on, Rowdy," she said, her hand clasped in his. She honestly wanted to see what sort of venue he offered. Because why not, and she knew people, who knew people, who knew other people. Her impressions would be better than hiring an Ad agency. Much, much better.
As he reaffixed his costume, she had to smile. "Oh, I've ran into him a time or two. And no doubt he's a regular guy. Perhaps you're both a bit more on the intense side, but hell, I'm not Catwoman. So I could only wish to be escorted by the great and brooding Batman!" She laughed a bit, knowing all too well how true his words were.
While she would have rather blended in and danced, this time she took him up on his offer of dancing, this time showing off her background, instead of running away in shock. She smiled, executing several moves to the delight of the crowd, thinking to herself what a rollercoaster the night had been.

As they exited the office, Rowdy laughed at Selina’s comment about not being Catwoman. “All I know is you’d make a sexy one! Roooooowwwr!” he growled, extending his free hand and curling his fingers to resemble cat claws. “No worries, Selina. I’m Batman tonight! I’ll protect you!”
Once they were on the dance floor, Rowdy applauded Selina’s efforts as she wooed the crowd with her impressive dance steps. He assumed she had some professional training in her background. Some of the moves she was executing were too difficult for the average person to even attempt.
“Damn, Selina! You go, girl!” Rowdy exclaimed, backing away and fading into the circle of people surrounding them. He signaled for the spotlight. It was all about Selina now.
Rowdy thought Selina looked absolutely stunning in the limelight. In his opinion, she was definitely in her element. She was also where she was supposed to be -- where everyone could adore her, not just him.

The King returned and he put an arm around Selina.
"Hey, I gotta talk to you. There's some stuff going on and we need to figure out now what's gonna happen."
He offered a hand to Rowdy.
"Hate to steal the lady, but well, things are happenin'. Can't get hip and be square, can I?"
Harvey pulled Selina along with him as they walked off.

When he melted back into the crowd, and a spotlight was on her once more, she nearly froze. Instead Elvis materialized at her side, speaking rather serious words to her. She nodded, biting her lower lip as she walked over to Rowdy and enveloped him in a warm hug.
"I'll call you, Batman." She murmured into his ear before pulling away from him, tugged along by her bodyguard.
She was torn in two different directions, but when work called, it called. Her phone was never off, and neither was her duty to Gotham. As she leaned into Harvey-cum-Elvis, she shook her head, finally able to talk a bit after they were outside, away from the music.

When Selina bid farewell, Rowdy was skeptical about her calling him. The smirk on his face said it all.
“Don’ t call me, I’ll call you. Yeah. Right. Okay. I’ve heard that one before. Gotcha. Whatever. See ya. Good-bye, Catwoman.”
Rowdy just stood there frozen as Selina vanished from view. Her departure seemed so surreal -- so rushed, so abrupt. Even the crowd around him was disappointed and felt cheated by not seeing Selina dance.
Yes, Elvis had left the building and had taken Rowdy’s Cinderella with him.
