Harvey yanked the phone back away from her with a grimace spread across his face.
"I am not precious."
As soon as that came out of his mouth he regretted it. That's what calling everyone by nicknames got you. He just put his palm to his face momentarily before getting back to his food, nearly finished with his plate.
"You got any words for handsome from your planet, that's what you should call me by, Dove."
Harvey tried to save it. There was likely no saving that.
Idiot.

His reaction to her choice of words only causes Shayera to laugh harder. The temptation to keep calling him that if he's going to object to it is so strong... Still, she's not sure that it's a word she'd used to describe him generally. That picture, yes, but clearly that's from a moment that's hardly his status quo. "Well, I'm not a small, harmless little bird that symbolizes peace either, but you don't see me objecting," she comments. Then again, normally she would object so perhaps that's a bad example. Or maybe that actually makes it an even better example.
His attempt to coach her on what to call him instead causes her to smile and say, "You'd prefer to be called 'Ik'?" Or at least that's the closest equivalent. Though she suspects that the Thanagarian word for it isn't the most pleasing word to human ears. Then again, it's not really that important of a concept to Thanagarians anyway - as evidenced by what she says next, "Before you say 'yes' - Ik also means pretty, cute, adorable... and precious." It's humans who felt the need to break that concept of looking visually appealing into what way it looks visually appealing and give each a different name.
While he considers that one, she finishes off her eggs and starts on her bacon - with her fingers, naturally. Whoever came up with the idea of thin slices of smoked pork was a genius!

Harvey just shook his head and finished off all his own food. He turned to her with glass of milk in hand, like a boss.
"Doves are nice, they fly good, and there are different ones. Before you bitch at me about Dove then you should go listen to some Stevie Nicks songs."
Harvey downed the remainder of his milk and set it firmly on the counter. He hated being called by nicknames and that was probably why he called them out like they weren't even a deal. He could think up a nickname for just about anyone. That or he would just shorten their name or title.
"I think you should just call me Harvey, or some variant of that."

"Doves are slow and weak," Shayera counters, "And Stevie who?" By now she's coming to realize that Harvey is a virtual treasure trove of things that she doesn't 'get'. Which isn't a good or bad thing, really, it just... It reminds her that she's an outsider of sorts, which is actually kind of helpful at the same time that it feels isolating.
"No, how about this: you can call me whatever the hell you want, and I can call you whatever the hell I want," she states, carefully saying it so that it doesn't really sound like a question. Not that she has a nickname in mind to call him yet, but she certainly reserves the right to use one if she thinks of one that she likes. Well, unless he really hated it, but she'll cross that bridge when she comes to it if need be.
The bacon is delicious enough that she makes short work of it, and turns her attention to the last part of her meal - the sausages. Again, she's quite sure that these were meant to be eaten with the fingers.

"Deal."
Harvey waited until she was finished eating before he lit himself a cigar. The smell was smooth and sweet, as cigars are wont to smell. He slid some money on the counter so the waiter could take it when they came back around. Harvey waved the fire out of the match as he puffed the cigar to get it burning good.
"So, now that's all squared away, Shay, you look good in that giddup of yours."
Before tonight he had never seen her in her little Hawkgirl outfit. He found it awful adorable. He could never resist the opportunity to tease and compliment the ladies. It was just his thing and he stuck to it. He loved every word.

Finishing off the sausages quickly, Shayera sits back just slightly and sighs, enjoying the feeling of being full for a moment. In fact, now that her hunger is satisfied, her body is now far more concerned with reminding her that she's tired. But what else is new? Sadly, just because she's tired doesn't mean that she'll be able to sleep. Which means that even though she should promptly head home now, it's kind of hard to find the motivation to do so when she knows her attempts to rest will undoubtedly be mixed.
Fortunately, Harvey distracts her from those unpleasant musings with his comment, she gives it a half-smile and says, "Thanks. I've been... experimenting a little."
Back when she first arrived on the planet, she favored the Thanagarian attire she'd arrived in, though eventually she'd had to replace the pieces with similar Earth-made equivalents due to wear and tear. That combined with her helmet created the classic image of Hawkgirl. When she reappeared after her absence, though, she had a change of wardrobe. She doesn't wear her Thanagarian helmet anymore, and instead of trying to duplicate her old costume she's switched to what is literally ordinary workout wear. Well, not quite 'ordinary' since she favors the higher quality, better designed stuff that doesn't wear out so easily and has to have it altered to accommodate her wings, but it's still much more off-the-shelf and she has more than one. Today she's wearing the pale gray set with the black detailing, the crop top providing a generous view of her muscular waistline - not really a 'costume' per se, but definitely also not the even more normal street-clothes she wears when she's relaxing. (And yes, it's plenty warm enough for flying around in winter.) Of course, it doesn't matter what she wears very much because the wings are a dead giveaway about who she is either way.
"You don't look so bad yourself," she comments as her eyes assess his own outfit, "It's a shame that guy put a hole in it." Not to mention the bloodstains, which are always so tricky to get out - she has a lot of experience with that, and also having to throw out clothing entirely after an especially rough day.

"Oh I got plenty other coats and suits. Trust me, ain't the first time I had an outfit ruined by a bullet."
Harvey smirked and looked down at the hole in his suit and shirt. On that note he got off of his seat and began pulling his coat on.
"Well, it is pretty late, and I think we both could use our rest. I guess I'll catch you around again, hopefully soon."
And hopefully not because I'm getting shot at again.
He walked past her on his way out, clapping a hand on her shoulder, avoiding offending her wings.
"Night."
He kissed her on her hair before walking the rest of the way out. He hailed a cab once he was out the door and on the pavement. He was sure she would have offered a lift, but taxis were just fine by him.

Nodding almost reluctantly as Harvey comments on their need for rest, Shayera comments, "I'm sure you will!" Or, perhaps more likely, she will catch him.
In any event, she gets up herself even as she wishes him, "Good night, Harvey." And she can't help but smile at the hand on her shoulder - he probably has no idea just how little friendly human contact she's had as of late, and therefore how much she appreciates the gesture. And the one that immediately follows that no less so, though the smile she gives at the kiss to her hair is actually just a little bit shyish.
But in spite of that, she's only a moment behind him in leaving, simply spreading her wings and flying away into the night sky, headed east toward her east Gotham apartment.
