After a few spoonfuls of her soup, Noelle nods. Well, that is a different setup. And she...well, what does she have? She was a teacher, has been a caregiver, and is now a nurse. That is something, but is it enough? And furthermore, is it enough to fare well in Gotham, especially with her husband MIA?
With a slight sigh, she nods, noticing the name of Wayne. "That...Bruce fellow? The one that whores around with women all the time and -should- be putting his money into better investments than cars, and hotels?" Her lips press together tightly, clearly showing her disgust for a man who has it all, and cares little for those, who, well, have so little.
"At least you are doing something to help people, with his money, in a fashion." Where she is from, family and church are one in the same, and if you need help, you ask for it, and usually have that sort of pillar to lean on. Community. Gotham clearly has it's hubs, but it's nothing like her beloved Texas.

"Bruce...?" Nina asks, as it takes her a moment to follow that train of thought. "Oh, no!" she says quickly when she realizes, "He is the boss of the boss of the boss of my main contact at WayneTech. I've never met him." Well, not that she knows of, anyway. Not really feeling the need to defend the man, she nevertheless feels the need to add, "Though I've heard that he does donate a lot of money - in addition to buying cars and hotels. I suppose when you have that kind of money you can afford to do everything with it at the same time." She shrugs, leaving it at that. Perhaps it's a good thing that she's not really trying to defend him if that's the best she can do...
"Personally, I think that it's more than a little bit ridiculous that it's even possible for someone to become that wealthy," she admits with a shake of her head, "In fact I think that it's a little bit ridiculous to have as much money as I do." Not that she'd appear to be in that circumstance - but the fact that she still dresses like she's simply a low-level professional when she has multiple millions in her bank account is just a sign of her discomfort with her own wealth. "But that's capitalism for you, and I've yet to hear of an alternative that didn't have just as many problems - if not more," she shakes her head again. That's one problem that she'll not bother trying to solve - she's a doctor, not an economist.

Nina is able to clear up a bit about the Wayne heir, but not entirely. "Well, but if you've put the work into earning it; it's rightfully yours. It's different when you inherit it, and just...piss it away." Now that is strong language for Noelle, and her cheeks flush slightly at the language. "People should be a bit more responsible, if they've been given that sort of gift, I guess. Then again, I was raised to work hard, help those after they have tried to help themselves, and...I agree. Capitalism is something else. Fewer people benefit at times from many's work. But then again, I'd rather not discuss politics. Matthew is so much better at that than myself..." She trails, going quiet as the mention of the man she loves dearly-and has for years makes her heart ache.
Playing with her spoon in her soup, she finally looks at Nina, with a wane smile. "I'm glad, though, you are responsible with your money, your funds, and you are seeking to do good in this city. I...love my job, but sometimes wish I could reach more. If you ran a non-profit, or are ever thinking of it, do keep me in mind. You're a gifted medical professional, and I'm quite good at secondary help." Because really, care-taking and teaching are the only things she knows she is deep down, really truly good at, and passionate about, too boot.

Nina can't really think of any way to respond to Noelle's further opinions on Mr. Wayne - because she pretty nearly agrees, though she's somewhat more charitable about it. Rather than blaming him so much for his behavior she rather blames the circumstances of his life making him so... out of touch. Though she can't help but smile somewhat at Noelle's reasoning for avoiding discussions about politics. "If you're smart enough to learn nursing, you're smart enough learn and discuss basic politics. And advanced politics is something that even the experts don't really understand so there's no point in expecting that of yourself," she says rather seriously, though that her smile lingers on her face softens her words quite a bit. She won't pressure Noelle into saying more now though - she just won't let Noelle hide behind her husband's knowledge without saying that much. Especially since Nina has a few reasons to believe that his judgment when it comes to politics may not be entirely sound.
And she can't help but smile again as Noelle speaks of a non-profit. "Honestly, the time and energy to start or even just watch over such a thing - I just don't have it. Though I do donate heavily to the World Health Organization," she explains with a smile. A majority of her profits, actually - she likes to live simply, so she just doesn't need it. What she has in the bank is more a nest egg for 'just in case' because, well, 'things' keep happening. And while she has no idea what she might need a few million dollars for, somehow she's managed to end up in a situation where it's actually possible for that to happen.
After chewing another forkful of her salad, Nina adds, "In any event, do keep ahold of my number. The good people in this city need to stick together - including you, however much longer you stay." The very idea of Noelle being discovered by the wrong person... It simply eases her mind to know that Noelle doesn't have only the police to depend on.

Noelle crinkles her nose at that. Politics is politics, and she knows what she likes, and doesn't like, but that doesn't mean she has to discuss it, does it? But Nina does have a point. "I just tend to leave that aspect to Matthew. I know what I do like, and don't like, I just don't...have a passion for discussing it. My mother always said sex, politics, and religion were never good dinnertime topics." But she does understand the woman's humor, and her attempt to chastise her with a smile.
While she can understand Nina's reserves about starting something, that doesn't mean she can't still donate. "I try to volunteer my time, as well. And I can't say I'm familiar with the World Health Organization." And she isn't. Before moving more permanently to Gotham, Texas, God, and her husband and subsequent family were her world. She's expanded such a few in a short time, but it still leaves her uneasy when she's too far outside her comfort zone.
"And please keep mine as well. Let me write that down for you. I have a cozy little apartment by some park?" Not Robinson park, but something...cozy, just as well. Clicking a pen, it's poised on a slip of paper she tore from her checkbook; yes, she still carries one of those, even. Slipping it across the table, she points out her email is on there as well. "I agree. And I'm hoping, that despite the darkness, I'll be here until my husband and I leave as one." No matter how long that will take, nor the state of mind he'll be in. Yes, she will have questions, and lots, but 'until death do you part' she takes quite seriously.

Smiling a little at Noelle's reasoning for not discussing it, Nina comments, "Well, it depends... I mean, I doubt that it's polite to discuss sex in any case, but as far as I'm concerned politics and religion are perfectly fine as long as everyone can be calm and polite about it. If someone's getting upset, though - time to change topic." Yes, she knows that certain topics are traditionally avoided, but as far as she's concerned it's more important to examine why such a rule of thumb was invented in the first place than to blindly follow it at all times.
Her eyebrows lift in surprise when Noelle says she's not familiar with WHO. "Oh, it's an agency of the UN. Through a number of different projects they, basically, promote world health - they do everything from coordinating efforts to control malaria, to teaching good health practice to third world countries, to offering some kinds of disaster relief, to publishing global statistics on health topics so that good decisions can be made, and so on," she explains, "Not without controversy, of course - but then what large organization is? I personally consider it to be a good place to put my money, if I'm not going to manage my donations more directly." And she also has them pegged as the ones who may best distribute a lot of her discoveries in the future - far into the future as it takes so long for them to go from her lab to being proved treatments. She may have a few favors to ask them then, and it won't hurt to be on their list of contributors at that point - and that's besides the fact that she basically believes in what they're doing.
When Noelle offers her number in return, of course Nina is eager to accept it. She does puzzle over what "some park" Noelle could be referring to. Of course Robinson Park is the park, but you could never refer to that as "some park" and though Gotham isn't exactly known for its greenspace there are a few others. The only one she can think of off the top of her head is Grant Park, though. She nods as she examines the slip of paper that Noelle gives her, but hands it over to Shawty - the Keeper of Important Things - when she's finished. "Good! And I wouldn't expect any less of you," she replies, even in spite of her personal opinions of her husband. She supposes that him having a wife like Noelle is a good thing, even if she can't help but feel very sorry for the woman. To be married to a man like that... Then again, at the moment she's quite sure that her own situation with Edward is even worse.

As Nina explains her thoughts, Noelle still shakes her head in disagreement. While some company may be able to be polite, and level headed, it was still taboo in her parent's home to discuss those matters. It just wasn't done! But the next explanation resonates more soundly with her, a cause she could back, now that she knows more of it. She's not a huge proponent of the internet; she'd rather spend her time face to face with people, rather than sitting before a screen.
"I think that sort of program is good. But I do wish more people would reach out to their own families, and their places of worship. It seems that too many go looking to the government, instead of their neighbor. The world now is just...something that has changed, and not always for the best." Pursing her lips, her hands circle her mug as she sips at it. "I wouldn't mind working for world health. There are so many untouched regions than need basic care. It would be nice to put my skills to use." And not a huge stretch for her, either. Before being a nurse, she was a teacher, and to her, both go hand in hand, to certain degrees.
"I know he might not be in the best place...and with this information that you've told me, it seems that he felt it was best for me not to know. But, I believe his behavior should be dealt with, I just..have to find him first, I guess. Which will happen in time. Considering I know my Matthew, he's gone to one of two places; the police, or the local church. Other than family, those are two things that make up his 'top three' you could call it. He is quite fond of his work, and his place of worship."

If anything, Nina finds Noelle's continued disagreement to be a little amusing - there really are people who still take that old rule about acceptable conversation topics that seriously? But she'll allow that difference of opinion stand without further discussion. If nothing else has convinced Noelle that it's silly by now, what are the odds that she'd be able to do it anyway? It's much better to agree to disagree and preserve the pleasant conversation.
Though she does purse her lips just a little at Noelle says, commenting, "So many people these days don't have either a family to turn to or a place of worship, but if you ask me, those are the very people who need it the most. Of course, that in and of itself is a sign of how the world is changing." And though Nina probably sees more of the changes as positive than Noelle does, she'd also be very quick to agree that the number of changes that are negative is troublingly high. Though Nina doesn't worry herself about that too much - she's already doing about as much for the betterment of the world as she thinks is sane.
Though she's quick to nod and note, "I could easily see you doing that - you have a very gentle bedside manner. And they always seem to need good, trained people in all capacities." Especially given the fact that they respond to so many of her donations with hopeful reminders that they'd love to have her physically help in addition to her monetary help, though she ignores those since she's surely doing more good with her research than she could do even with that.
As Noelle speaks more about her husband, Nina nods solemnly and chews on her salad - which she's beginning to reach the end of. "Well, I'm sure that you'll find him even without it, but good luck. And also 'good luck' after you do, as well - finding him may actually turn out to be the easy part, but like I said there's every reason to be hopeful," she says with a smile, before looking down at her nearly finished salad and commenting, "I, on the other hand, should probably get back to my hotel. Because - unless a nap wins out - I have a little work to do." Though from the sound of it, it isn't work that she's looking forward to - to be honest, she's hoping the nap wins.

Pursing her lips as Nina goes on, she sighs, shaking her head over her drink. "I agree. Which is why Matthew endeavors to do good. He was in the military, as well, and he strives to be good...as do I. I just...don't like nor admire this dark edge that the world has taken. But we both see ourselves as beacons of light, so I can see why he was drawn to Gotham, too."
"Education is taken too lightly these days. We need those that can do, and do well, people like yourself, and Shawty, who can do, and understand the reasoning behind it and not just be an automaton for evil." She fusses a bit with her napkin, before smiling slightly. "I appreciate the compliment. I do strive to be gentle, yet firm in what I do. Compassionate." If only she could have not failed in other areas, and applied those caring techniques in a family, and not just her career.
"Oh!" Noelle exclaims, once Nina pretty much states she has to go. "I apologize for keeping you. I do understand your work is quite important. But please reach out, if you need anything. If you're not as comfortable in your visits, I could drop in, if you wished. I can understand the importance of discretion, Dr. Stenet. I do hope you both take care to rest. Sleep does the body good, especially while rehabilitating." A bright smile is on her face as she takes in her eating companions. "I myself am headed there soon as well, I picked up a shift for a coworker, so I need a bit of a nap before I head back in to work.
Almost as an afterthought, Noelle nervously looks back at the two, and states rather timidly;"Thank you both, for not judging me based on my husband's actions, even with me not being aware. For once, it's nice to not be in his shadow. This means the world to me."
