Are you okay, Mr. Gamin?
The phrase repeated into his mind over and over and over again as the person who looked exactly like Bruce Wayne stood in front of him. His eyes shoot all over the person, looking for any flaw that might be out of place, and he immediately caught it in his voice. It wasn’t the sound. It sounded exactly like the idiotic man whore brat. It was the tone. The sincere, kind tone that seemed to stream from his lips like any other causal citizen who might be embarrassed about the situation.
He might have had his debacle with the Batman in the elevator, but his memory wasn’t that short. Bruce Wayne had left him with a condescending message and treated him poorly. Why would someone call you out about an ex-sex thing and deny you employment, only to become concern over your safety? People’s minds were simple, but they worked in a logical format at the end of the day. Whatever was occurring was not logical, and he just couldn’t put his finger on how this strange occurrence was happening.
Before he could come for the proper conclusion, he felt gravity take hold of his form. His eyes widened and his hands jerked up in the air as if to catch some invisible handle bar. He hit the ground roughly, the wind knocking out of his lungs, followed by a weight sitting on top of him. His eyes refocused to see Selina.
Selina….who was apparently very pissed off….and had a knife against his throat. Kitty has claws, obviously.
“Selina,” he lifted his jaw as if to give more space between the knife and his skin, “this is a little immature, don’t you think?”
He smirked, as his hands found their way to her hips. “You are the one that decided to get involved in our little game, don’t be offended when you are left alone because you never picked a side.”
“Riddle me this, ancient time is the key to this creature’s identity, a bite so deadly it can kill a man, a solitary creature which shall never take a permanent mate, what is this creature’s name?” his voice was cold, his eyes locked with hers, daring her to do something stupid, because that’s what people other than himself did. They did stupid things.

And it happened almost precisely at the same time that Selina’s pre-planned bumbling crash into Edward did, causing “Bruce Wayne” (as near-flawlessly portrayed by none other than Sir Alfred Pennyworth) to stumble and fall back, disappearing into the thick of one of the bush décor hedges around the building perimeter. In the blink of an eye, Bruce Wayne (as in the REAL goddamned Bruce Wayne – flawlessly portrayed by the Batman) reappeared back into sight, pulling himself shakily out of the leafy foliage. He stood and straightened himself out a bit, brushing leaves off his designer suit, smoothing his black hair back into its styled place. An irritated sigh huffed out from Bruce.
“Jeeze! Can you watch where the HELL you’re going?! There’s already been one freak accident today, I don’t need anoth -!” Instantly cutting off in mid-sentence the moment he saw the tangled pair still clamoring to get up from the ground; his annoyance shifted into amusement – now laughing at the sight of things.
‘Black Widow.’ Bruce silently answered in thought. ‘Was that meant to be a harmless dig at Selina, or was it alluding to something more destructive…?’
Bruce definitely heard the muted conversation held discretely between Selina and Edward due to the pin-point sized reception mic hidden within the grooves of his ear – all the while acting as clueless as ever. Heard it. Recorded it. He shook his head and moved to offer a hand out to Selina to help her up, while dis-regarding Edward the same courtesy. Any excuse to make contact with a woman, right?
“God Selina, never pegged you to be the klutzy type. Unless you’re drinking. Been at the brandy a little sooner than usual today?” A smirk slid across his lips. “Seriously, are you okay?”
Upon asking her that question, medical help had begun to arrive while lawful authorities directed the bewildered employees and cliental away from the Wayne Tower, roping off the building from access so they could get inside and investigate without distraction.
“Oh man! The police and medics are here…? I thought this alarm was just one of the practice ones!” Bruce exclaimed in shock, hating to peel his eyes away from the lovely view that was Selina Kyle all disheveled and pissy.
‘She’s definitely going to bitch about being sprayed in the elevator for hours. Days, even. I’ll upgrade her cat claws – give’em a dispensable neuro-toxin pressure release for her to use as she wants. She’d like that.’ His thoughts were then interrupted by one his head security personnel arriving before him, prepped with an explanation and a course plan of action regarding the sudden emergency evacuation of Wayne Tower.
As Bruce listened to the breakdown of just what was going on from the security admin, he noticed a cluster of EMP workers making their way over towards him – briefly checking to make sure each person they passed was okay.
“Hey!” Bruce blurted out, rudely interrupting his security admin, managing to gain the attention of the EMP workers. “I think he’s hurt! And needs medical attention ASAP!”
He then pointed to Edward – marking the man as the next target for the EMP workers to fuss over. Bruce cast a cursory glance back to Edward, a smarmy grin etched smoothly on his face, his patronizing tone oozing sarcastic concern by the boatload when he spoke next to Nigma.
“Just want to be sure nothing is broken or damaged. Don’t want some BS lawsuit you decided to file against Wayne Enterprises arrive in the mail five years from now, or something. So, I insist you be taken to the hospital right now and get thoroughly examined. In fact, you have to go. It’s part of a legal contractual clause all non-employee visitors of Wayne Tower agree to once they've physically entered the building. I’ll definitely make sure you’re taken care of, Ed Gamin. Trust me. You’re in good hands…” His smile suddenly grew into a full blown shit-eating grin. Just in time for the EMP crew to arrive and began hassling Nigma with their basic medical procedures.
“Give Mr. Ed Gamin top medical priority! He needs to be taken and admitted to the hospital right now! And… Make sure he gets a decent room. One with a view that clearly sees the Wayne Tower “W”!” Bruce held back from snickering, despite the display of a taunting grin.
He turned his attention back to Selina and just as he opened his mouth to say some flirty innuendo or some dirty quip, he was interrupted at the behest of his security admin (who was done with waiting patiently) so he could quickly finish briefing Bruce about the situation. Standing in line behind the security admin, were a slew of more Wayne Tower administrators waiting for their turn next to go over a myriad of policies, procedures, details, and options about this unexpected incident. Business blah blah blah-ing. Bruce began to desperately wish that it was Alfred, dressed in “Bruce Wayne” disguise, who now suddenly stood there instead, flawlessly playing the “CEO Billionaire Buffoon”, saving him from the torture of endless red tape and bureaucratic monotony.
Being Batman was exciting. Being Bruce Wayne was agonizing.

He was taunting her when there was no good option for him to pissing her off, more. Nostrils flaring, she would have done worse had a hand not at her elbow helped her up. Before she fully stood, she mouthed the answer back to him Black Widow, asshole. Those gimlet green eyes of hers narrowed to slits before her entice visage shifted; to one of stunned helplessness.
"I..I think I broke a heel, Bruce. And no, I wasn't invited, sadly." Slipping the slight weapon away, she was about to reach for the emergency blanket to shield her torn blouse from the media when she gestured to him to grab it for her.
There was a moment where she could, clearly, speak to him without speaking. A trait they had honed years on the rooftops. There had been times when she had helped him, and he, her, but now...was something entirely of neither realm. Swallowing, she pointed to the blanket that had dropped. "I'm shaken. I'd like something to cover up with." She was playing stupid; the best an actress ever could in her situation, stuck between two friends that loved her, and hated one another. Were this another instance, she'd have engaged both men, and made them bleed.
But now, she couldn't do that. She was Ms. Selina Kyle, businesswoman, philanthropist, playing stupid, dumb, and trying to keep it all together.
She really hated elevators.
As Bruce continued to vapidly understand things minutes later, she crossed her arms, drawing close to where Bruce was standing. A medical professional offered her another blanket, which she wrapped around herself as she answered stupid questions about a stupid happening. As it was, one of the medics looked her over, and immediately had her sit in an area for treating injured. And as much as she tried to claim she was fine, the worker insisted on thoroguhly checking her over. And then, a duo of thoughts hit her at once. He was keeping her out of harms way, his voice ringing out Edward's voice, and that he should be brought to the hospital at once. Which also meant she would need to be looked over, but still kept within his eye-sight.
Secondly? She had been injured in the whole thing. Re-injured, if one was being technical. As she had been encouraged to sit, and her shoes removed, one went easily. The second? Well, her ankle had swollen enough that her shoe had been destroyed, the brusing revealing something more than a sprain. As the worker queried her, she told them she had broken it several months ago. A year, was it?
Gritting her teeth as she endured the probing, she sighed, and asked if there was any way she'd be allowed a walking boot. The look returned to her was curt, and that no, she needed it set, and soon.
This sucked.

Normally, Edward never complained about having a beautiful woman on top of him. The knife scratched across the stumble on his neck with each steady breath he took. His eyes locked to hers, matching the piercing glare, as his fingers started to dig into her hips, ready to flip her over. Normally, he wouldn’t complain, but he did not enjoy being threatened, especially by the person who had ruined his simple plan from the beginning. As he was about to shift her weight to catch her off balance, the billionaire brat pulled her off of him. He did have some use, after all.
Edward huffed as the weight left his form and stood from the ground to brush himself off. He certainly wasn’t in the best of health, wincing at the sharp pain near his ribs. He wasn’t paying attention to the boy CEO. He knew who he was. He knew, even if he was playing if off as something else. The question he kept asking was does he know that he knows? He obviously is suspicious, or he wouldn’t be going to such great action to deter him. He couldn’t ponder on that thought anymore. He needed to get back to his home before some rookie cop trying to make a name for himself recognized him. It made him furious that this entire day could be considered a pointless waste. His hand turning into a fist as he heard Selina’s voice acting sweet and innocent. She should consider a new career in stripping with how much a tease she is. He started to push away from them. He would regroup and get what he needed from Wayne Towers another way. Breaking in would hardly be difficult. If anything…it might be a bit fun to plan, after a day like this.
He took a step away and then heard Bruce’s unpleasant voice call out to the medics and point them in his directions. He glanced back and saw the taunting grin on his face, as the man continued to draw more and more attention to him. Emergency Medics started to touch and pull at him to a direction to an ambulance. Edward jerked and struggled away. “Don’t touch me!” he snapped, shooting a glare in the billionaire’s direction.
He pulled out of their grips and moved to Wayne. The doctors were pulling on him trying to get him in control, but Edward’s hands grabbed Wayne’s suit and yanked him forward. “If I want to destroy your company, I will do far worse than sue you,” he snapped in rage before he moved his mouth to his ear and whispered darkly, “I have a fun riddle, what else does the Bat love besides his two dead parents?” He chuckled as he let the doctors pull him away, smirking.
“Bye Bruce,” he mouthed, giving him a half wave as he was pulled into the ambulance.
When the ambulances doors closed and he was forced onto a stretcher as the car started to drive off, he turned his focus back on the problem at hand. “Can I borrow someone’s phone?” he asked calmly. The medics tried to reject his request, but he repeated, “I need to make a call.” He was then handed a phone. He made a quick call to Allen. “Yes, cross streets of 49th and Appleton.”
“Sir, that’s not where the hospital is located,” one of the medics said curiously. Edward ignored him, using the phone to get into the stop light grid. He pressed enter, and at the next crosswalk, the lights all went green. The cars crashed into each other. The driver cursed and slammed on his breaks, coming to a halt at the cross section.
When it stopped, the medics were confused, but Edward yanked out the IV, and started undoing the straps. “I would never let the idiots at the hospital place their hands on me. Who do you think I am? Plumber Joe?” He rolled his eyes, opened the back door and stepped out of the ambulance. “Have a good day,” he tipped his heads to the medics and then walked down the block where Allen was waiting in a black car.
He had his own doctor to go see.

The slow and steady report of the security admin was rushed through with quiet assurances from Bruce that he trusted them to handle the situation and to do what was necessary to keep things safe and to make certain the security data was gathered together so that the police could use it however they wanted. All the important stuff would be lost or hidden anyway. He smiled and patted the guard on the shoulder and sent him on his way with a promise for a report later. It was in character for him to take such little attention to the matter. He knew that Nigma would escape from the ambulance, it was inevitable, but the manner in which he did it. That would tell him more than he needed to let him find the man later. His eyes narrowed at that last riddle. There was a moment there, when the boy CEO disappeared, just a moment of cold, emotionless calculation. So Nigma knew. Nigma knew it all, and he couldn’t keep his mouth shut for just a few more minutes to keep him in doubt. Things would have to be different now, there was a cold quiet to him. What if Nigma told? What if people found out? Would that be so bad? To kill of Bruce Wayne entirely and to just become The Batman. To stop wearing the mask and to just go fully into the symbol. He’d thought about it before, had backup plans just in case this situation came up. Would it be a relief, he wondered, to drop the burdens of Wayne Enterprises? How would it feel to slip entirely into that dark space of justice and focus entirely on the mission. He’d need to protect the ones he loved, but perhaps it would be easier if he had none of those attachments. Selina could come with him, she knew the real him. Selina! Now, his attention was on Selina. “Selina” he said, looking at her, kneeling down to look at her ankle near the EMPs “Are you okay?” It was a stupid question, one perfectly in character for Bruce Wayne, but there was something to the question that Selina would be able to see. He looked up at her for a moment and said “We’ll get this fixed up soon.” He exhaled as he stood up. “I know money isn’t enough to help.” He was at a loss for words. She could see his thoughts in his eyes, the combination of concern, irritation, the dark pit inside where the Bat lived, where the pain was. Nigma had gotten to him, in a very profound way, damn the man. Part of him wanted to run off, give chase. To just hit the man until he stopped moving. But, he stayed next to Selina. “We should take you inside, to the medical station. Get your leg set , get painkillers in you. Get you a” he looked over her “new dress. A new and expensive dress” He was acting boyish, playful, stupid, but his mind was far away now.
