His response is hardly a surprise at this point, but Anne doesn't find it the least bit intimidating. Being killed is, after all, much less of a problem for her than it is for the average person. In fact, that statement always tempts her to say that it sounds like a fair exchange to her - there's always pain and inconvenience with every death, but the sort of secret you need to die for is certainly worth it when death isn't permanent. But alas, nobody ever means that literally - it's simply a fancy way of saying no. She gives him a somewhat teasing grin, knowing that she's not going to get anything out of him - at least not with methods she's prepared to use right now - so the mystery will remain.
But even though the consequences of being killed are so negligible, she's not about to count herself out. She may not be as strong as a man, but she's faster and more agile than she looks. And she's used to so many men being totally caught off guard by this. Of course, it's always so much easier to do these things as a ghost.
In fact, it's actually a bit too easy. The first century or so of this existence was rather difficult - learning how to live large without being found out. But now that she's mastered the constant shifting and taking full advantage of both states of her existence, everything has fallen into place. And while she's comfortable here in the lap of luxury, there's so little challenge to it. Which is why, even if she finds this interruption to her life somewhat of an upset, it's also rather refreshing - a much needed interruption to what would be a boring day couched between other boring days.
And then, quite abruptly, she finds that this day has gotten even more interesting than that. Later, she'll reassure herself that the reason why her wrists ended up in his hands was because their talking distracted her and not because he was actually too fast. But he's fast enough and unexpected enough that her first reaction is a cry of alarm and an instinctive pull against his grip, but her hands are held fast. It's only then that she realizes that he's not hurting her. No, he's... kissing her. And he knows what he's doing too! And once she realizes that, she responds in kind. She's no novice to this either - in fact, if anything she has more experience. After all, she has never in her centuries of existence spent her days in a secluded monastery or other such place where members of the opposite gender were not readily available if she should want company. Nor has she ever seen any reason why she should resist the temptation when it comes.
Take now for instance - she's married, but that only matters so much to her. She likes her husband, but she doesn't really love him, and he'll be dead in a few decades anyways. And here she's being presented with what is probably literally a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, even for someone of her lifetime. Should she therefore not accept just because of Florent? Of course not! And he's right that she's attracted to power - this is why she'll never really love Florent - he's so sweet and nice and easy to manipulate, but he's not a challenge. He can't stand against her. And that's boring. So unlike this bold, mysterious man who has somehow deprived her of the ability to defend herself and yet uses that opportunity for a kiss - this is exciting!
When he pulls away, she has to take a deep breath, both her mind and body trying to catch up with this sudden turn of events. "I'll hold you to that," she murmurs back, "But I promise that I'm worth every effort." After all, her vast experience with men goes well beyond simply kissing. But though feeling herself so restrained by his strength is exciting in a way, it does limit her options. That's not something she minds, though - instead she sees it as a challenge. Leaning forward as if to kiss his lips again, instead she turns at the last moment and instead kisses the corner of his mouth. And with her next kiss and the next she travels slowly downward.
