So, I'm sure most of you have seen the Proboards announcement about the upcoming upgrade. I've been getting a lot of questions about it, so I thought that I'd make a general announcement to help explain what will be happening.
Your standard member in a forum like this doesn't get to see it, but the current set of tools that Proboards gives to Admins hasn't changed in years and is horribly out of date. Take the sidebar where the Chatboxes, staff list, etc. are, for instance - that exists because of some patchwork html coding and not because the forum is actually set up to have such a thing. And that's just one example of something they're fixing.
Of course, they can't fix everything without breaking it in the process. They're promising that all the board's accounts and posts will transfer over seamlessly - you still come to our same url, still use the same login info, and all the forum's threads will be fine. What won't be fine is the forum's custom coding and probably the skins too. Which means that right after the upgrade the site will look way different. This is something that we admins are going to have to fix, so you don't need to worry about it. Mostly, we'll just have to ask for your patience while we figure out how to make our favorite coding still work - I will not rest until our shiny things like the Random Quote Box are back in full working order!
One thing that you may need to worry about if you don't have multiple characters is the little warning box they've been giving you. If you don't understand what it's trying to say, let me explain: if you are one of those people who just keeps themselves logged in all the time (which would not include anyone with multiple characters since you have to log in and out all the time to switch characters), be warned that you'll be logged out when the forum upgrades. Which may become a problem if you don't log in frequently and have gotten hazy on what your username and password are, so now is a good time to make sure that you know.
And that's really all you need to know. Well, except that this new upgrade is supposed to come with all sorts of awesome new features, which I can't tell you about because most of them that I know about are for the admins only. There's probably some good ones for members too, though.
