After what happened with Edward, some might question the wisdom of returning to work so quickly - and for multiple reasons. The more paranoid might say that it's a bit of a risk coming here, where someone who obviously wants you dead could find you easily. But then, Nina is certain that he assumes that she died and why would he look for her at all if she's dead? She's uncertain how long it will take him to find out that she survived or what he'll do at that point, but for now she thinks that it's safe to assume that she's safe from him at least. Though since the future of that may not be completely certain at this point she finds herself more focused on completing current projects rather than starting anything new - why start it if she's having to worry she won't be able to finish?
Another reason someone might question her working is that she's still not finished healing and the work is a drain on her physically. True it would be considered light work, but she nearly died and is still recovering from heart surgery. But unlike most people in her condition, she can directly determine her condition and knows exactly how well she's healing and how hard she can push herself. She invested in a new, more comfortable and supportive stool for her lab and went back at it. She may need to take frequent breaks, but she counts this as better than lounging around on a hospital bed all day when she could be doing more.
Besides, she feels rather secure in her lab. After Selina got through with it, she knows just how hard it would be to be caught off guard by anyone while she's in here. Trust the infamous Catwoman to be able to spot and patch all the potential security holes - from strategically placed sensors to detect people anywhere they have no business being, such as the roof and various crawlspaces, to the bulletproof and shatter-resistant windows, to the locks on everything that Selina assured her are difficult even for her to pick, to the array of security cameras that feed directly to Shawty's computer and alert her to movement, it would be a feat for anyone to get to her, and especially without her knowing that they're coming.
Of course, this place still has one very gaping security hole: it's a business. And as such, there are people who need to visit her and sometimes she's never met or even heard of them before. And there's only so much that can be done to screen them - Shawty of course knows what all the major rogues look like in and, if possible, outside of costume. Not to mention many other undesirable people. Anyone who comes in the front door has to get past her assistant at the receptionist desk to see her, so it's not like someone can just barge in. Yet even that isn't enough to protect her from absolutely everyone, especially if they're clever enough to anticipate her security measures.
But though it's never possible to fully protect yourself from everyone, especially if they have money, manpower, and equipment, she can feel safe here if only because she doesn't think that anyone with the means feels the need to go through that much trouble just for her. In fact, none of this is on her mind at all as she sorts through her notes on her latest batch of adult stem cell proteins - instead she's fully absorbed in the task. Scribbling corrections, addendum, and deletions onto the page that Shawty typed up from the notes she took while she was doing the tests, she's fully into research mode. Though as she warned Shawty several minutes ago, she's nearly finished so they'll leaving soon. Even if she wasn't, she's exhausted - it's late now and a full day's work is very hard on her physically.
Meanwhile, Shawty's multitasking at her desk, both finishing up some paperwork Dr. Stenet gave her to do, gathering up her things in preparation of leaving, and as always keeping an eye on everything both figuratively and literally. With her boss still on the mend, in addition to her regular workload she also has worrying a lot more about Dr. Stenet's health and well-being than normal. There's nothing like nearly losing the woman to make her even more vigilant than ever about keeping her alive.
