Bruce really was a master strategician. He knew Dick like he knew the back of his hand. Perhaps that was what made it so easy. All it took was a phrase, a push here and a shove there, and Dick became defensive and territorial. A man attempting to defend his turf, his ego, and his pride. Perhaps, days from now, Dick will realize that Bruce had managed to pull a fast one on him. But it'd be too late, because he had given his word and Bruce had raised him to be a man of his word.
"No one said you had to babysit him. I just wanted to make sure we were on the same page about stopping him if necessary and planting the tracker."
His hands floated across the keyboard. The monitor went black and the quiet hum of machinery grew silent. It was time to call it a night, now that they had agreed upon a plan. At least, it was best to call it a night before Dick started getting second thoughts about their scheme. Perhaps Dick would remember it as a ploy that his mentor would use on him, when he asked questions too personal and entered into territories too dangerous.
Still, why bother teaching a dog new tricks when the old ones still worked impeccably?

"Alright, alright," Dick said.
He crossed his arms and looked at Bruce as he typed on the computer. Almost wanting to glare at his mentor. But he wasn't mad over this. Just annoyed.
"I hate when you do that," he replied.
Dick knew Bruce pulled a fast one on him. Though how his mentor knew how to hit and what to say...that was just something he had learned over time. And Bruce could always get the answer he wanted to hear it seemed.
He saw the screen go black and looked to Bruce. "Let me guess...now to only follow this out and get the device," he said.

Bruce... was Bruce. Not only did he know every Justice League members' weakness, he had them saved in a massive database. For the most powerful, dangerous heroes, he kept a weapon fine-tuned for them on his person just in case. So it was no small wonder that he knew how to manipulate Dick. How to get every member of the Bat Family to do what he wanted. But with great power, came great responsibility. Since the incipience of the team, it had always been his way or the highway. That was why he had to be right. Always. He couldn't afford to be wrong. Not even once. Not again.
"I have the device ready. Take it, and give it to Kory. You know what you need to do, Dick. You're smart enough to know how to get it to Wulfen and make sure he wears it."
He reached into a tiny compartment near the desk. A beautifully crafted collar, a soft wood brown, with archaic and exotic symbols strewn all along the surface. He handed it over to Dick and began heading towards the exit.
"It's in your hands now, Dick."

Dick took the item. Looking at it through narrowed eyes. It was always in line with Bruce's plans. It was always going to be that way it seemed. He knew how to play on everyone's strengths and weaknesses. And Kory just so happen to be a weakness both Wulfen and Nightwing shared alike.
A weakness Batman would not allow himself to show. Even with the cat burglar that walked the line. Some knew and could see the connections between the two. The games they played.
Dick knew it. Tim knew it. And Alfred knew it.
But to everyone else it seemed to be just a game at time. But not a weakness.
The instructions fell upon experienced ears. Grown up and trained to that voice. Knowing the ways the gears roll.
"I'll get it to her tonight," Dick replied. No argument from him, his eyes still on the item.

He knew that Dick would never question him. It's been that way for years. Until that night, where he packed up his bags and... Still, old habits die hard. Even though Dick was no longer Robin, but Nightwing, a reputable and respected hero in his own right, he would always hesitate to refuse one of Batman's orders. That was just the way it was. And that is the way it will remain, if there's anything Batman can do about it.
The lights flickered out around them. One by one, the bulbs from uptop. The monitors, dimming and dimming, until they were entirely black. But Batman knew that the system was still running on full speed, that as long as he lived, surveillience of the city would never cease. Afterall, he was Batman. Forever vigilant. Always watching, ready to send villains cowering away.
His figure, a broad outline darker than the darkness of the cave, stood and made its way towards the door. No wave. NO farewell. No 'goodnight'. Just a powerful figure slipping quietly out, back up to the manor, and into bed, to snatch a few hours' precious sleep.
