Oh, but one could experience death, they could experience it thousands of times or, like the man she inquires about, once. Death was a word made up by man to explain something that he didn’t want to understand. Dr. Crane had left this world a long time ago and all that was left was a catalyst to oblivion. He is vessel through which he manifested as the only true thing that exists in this world. As the only tangible measureable object. But he didn’t need to correct her at the present time. She didn’t want to see it, so she never would.
When her mood elevated, harboring a bit of hostility behind her voice her true colors were emitting forth. He could draw it out of her and regardless of what she wanted to admit or believe, she knew it. Dr. Stenet wasn’t the only victim, the doctor drew fear out of a great many people and he would only continue to break her with it as time went on. But doctors normally left before he got in too deep to do damage….but they never forgot.
The thought of getting back at Edward for numerous reasons had crossed his mind. Their last encounter was still fresh as it was yesterday another example of how his death had affected him. But even more so Dr. Stenet wanted the wound to fester and boil within her, she wanted to feed into it until the fear of being alone forever took her…..and it wanted to. Anything that Dr. Crane would be willing to do on his part she probably wouldn’t agree with, but he was willing to hear her part out which she was continuing to avoid despite his persistence. No, she wasn’t going to tell him until she had an answer. But she wanted that answer so badly, she offered something in return.
His glacial iris stared through hers for a moment and seemed to drop into a space just beyond her own. He cared nothing for the other she spoke about, nor did he care to know who it was. It was an opportunity to set in motion what he desired, what he had previously agreed to….and he was going to take it. But, such as the world, everything comes at its price and Dr. Crane held no value in paper. “And…” The doctor spoke with the light of awareness finally returning to his eyes. He took a step forward and leaned back toward the glass. “What if what I want is…” His words paused to lean fully against the glass now that she had stepped slightly away from it. The edge of his dry, peeling lips pressed a quarter to the barrier between them and caused a fog to separate her vision from them as he spoke.
“You.”
The doctor had no explanation for his cryptics to share. Just a silent stare to await her decision on how badly she wanted his help. Her interpretation of his words would likely decide, but all was in perception, wasn’t it?

If Crane had been hoping for a strong reaction to his words, he's likely to be disappointed by the slight lift of Nina's eyebrows that indicates merely surprise at his request. Oh, her heart is not beating a little bit faster than it was, but she is a woman who has been through a lot - especially lately - and she's had to face worse things than this conversation. Not that this conversation means nothing to her, but she has a different perspective on it than she might have otherwise.
But the surprise only lasts for a moment before she sets her jaw and comments, "I thought that you already had plans to use me to answer a few questions." There's a hint of sarcasm in her voice at that, but she doesn't dwell on that for long before she adds, "If it's me that you want, then we probably have a deal." She can't know for sure what he means by that, though she has a few educated guesses. But even in spite of those guesses, she finds herself questioning whether Crane is actually capable of doing anything worse to her than what Edward has already done. Besides, if Crane doesn't help her that means putting someone else in danger, and she'd much rather put herself in danger than a friend.
"But I must ask what you want me for," she continues, suspecting that she'll once again get a cryptic answer, but figuring that it's worth a shot. There's not much that he could say that she'd find very daunting at this point, actually - giving Edward what he deserves is simply too important to her. That, and the woman has guts. Even so, she'd rather know as much as she can about what she's getting herself into.

Dr. Crane didn’t know if he wanted or reaction or even expected an immediate one from her. The process of talking to women was about as dry and empty as it was talking to a man, but something was always a bit off when he spoke to her. But he saw the things that others would dismiss, he saw the soft rise in her eyebrows and the short dilation of her eyes. How could he ever miss it staring this intently at someone, he wouldn’t miss a muscle. He wouldn’t trade it for the world to see the small amount of fear in her eyes.
It didn’t take much to look at Dr. Crane and realize that he was cut from a different cloth. He didn’t go along with the herd and he never had. It was difficult to tell that he was just born of a different breed in this world, however commonplace his parents might have been. But the world didn’t need to know about that. As far as he was concerned there was no mother or father to him, he simply was. But much to his own wonder she quickly agreed to what he had to say.
His head dipped down slightly with her last question and held a dark look behind his eyes that said he was holding something that only he would know. ”A better question would be….Is there anything you wouldn’t do?” he put back to her as her answer, not expecting her to have to answer it at all. She didn’t need to, the message was clear enough to both of them. She would do what he wanted her to when he said so and in turn he would provide what she needed him to do.
It was just like any other deal he made, except with so much more on the line.

The question that Nina gets in return causes her to blink in confusion for a moment and then frown rather deeply. "That is a better question? Really? Yes! There are plenty of things that I wouldn't do! And not the least because I have another option if what you want makes you the worse choice," she says first, sounding very annoyed. The very idea that he would think it's like that!
"Do you assume that he's the center of my universe now? No, of course not! There are so many more important things. Especially now that he's made it so blatantly clear where I am in his universe. I simply need to get this taken care of so that I can focus my attention back where it should be without having to worry that some idiot will think that he can try to kill me whenever it suits him. And yes, though there are many things that I would do for that, there are certainly others that simply wouldn't be worth it. He's not worth it," she rants angrily, finally having to pause to take a few deep breaths - getting worked up about something is quite exhausting for her at the moment.
Refocusing her attention on the matter at hand she says, "That's why I asked for the price - if it's too high I won't pay it." True, she wants what she's asking for very, very badly but she didn't come here because she's desperate. Well, perhaps she's bordering on desperate for another option besides the alternative to this one, and as such she would go to great lengths, but there are some very definite limits.

In his mind It was a far better question. Her following demeanor with her answer gave him everything he needed to know about what she would and wouldn’t do. How scared she was. But this was good for him, even if she foolishly thought it was for her own misguided revenge. All in an effort to satisfy her fears. He could see the headlines in the paper of people trying to act sympathetic, but merely just fearful pawns themselves, creating hindsight to save their own sanity. Poor thing, they would say, She should have seen it coming.
“It’s a shame, but I suppose one of us must place boundaries on what they wont do” He spoke in his cryptics once she was finished, not trying to annoy but simply performing himself as he was. She seemed desperate, she looked desperate and was therefore frightened of the endeavor that she was taking on. To her he could see that she knew logically he wasn’t worth the effort, but she wanted it to be worth it so badly. He would make it worth it.
”I told you the price, but you can confirm or deny a request at any time.” He offered her more understanding on the matter. They had already made the deal as far as he remembered, but he’d give her the option to deny a request if she wanted to.
Finally, the corpse stepped back from the glass as if to motion that their dealings were done. His eyes were no longer lost in hers and instead they had become lost in his own mind. There was a depth or even a distance that was distinctly undeniable in his gaze. It was something that separated him from the physical world.
She would be perfect for him and him for her in this. Everything would turn out exactly how he[/] wanted in the end. But for her……
Well, Normal is an illusion. What is normal for the spider is chaos for the fly. And she had just barely began her decent into the spider hole.

Well, Nina can't say that his answer is completely satisfactory. Then again, since neither of them seem to be willing to go into specifics at the moment - which is probably just as well since this isn't exactly the most secure place to be having this conversation - expecting complete satisfaction is probably a fool's errand. At least they've established that he's willing to help and she's willing to repay him - to a point. And if he's willing to trust that he'll get his end of the deal even allowing for the fact that she may refuse something then that's all that needs to be said right now. "I always repay my debts," she replies, "And I won't refuse an acceptable price." She knows that she's making a deal with the devil, after all, and while it's wise to expect the devil to try to cheat you, it's very unwise to try and cheat him.
When he steps away from the glass, Nina turns from it as well, though she doesn't need to walk further than a step back to return to the wheelchair. As annoying as it was when she came in, she's grateful for it now - talking to Crane is tiring on more than one level. The chair is held in place by Shawty as she settles into it with a sigh, and when she's finished her assistant gets a nod.
Shawty takes this as a signal to pull a tissue out of her pocket, and slips it partway into the meal slot on the door so that he can retrieve it easily. "My number," Nina says with a nod in its direction. "It will take some time before I'm in any condition to do anything. And given your past history, I don't think I'll need to wait forever before you'll be available to assist me. If that assumption proves incorrect, I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. But failing that, call me when you're ready," she says, "We can discuss the remaining details then." Naturally, she's morally opposed to the very idea of helping him escape, even if it would benefit her personally. But she expects that he will even without her help - in fact that was part of the reason why she was in such a hurry to visit him - and perhaps it will even be in a convenient time frame given how long it will take her to get her strength back. If not - well, there's always the dreaded Plan B.
